I happened to walk by one day and stopped in to see if they would be able to squeeze me in some time, (had plans for the city that night). I was able to get a 1:30 appointment. I received the WORST haircut ever. It started with Angel being 30 minutes late to my hair appointment. When he did arrive, I asked for my hair to be thinned. He ended up giving me what I can only explain as a mullet. He then proceeded to curl my hair into the tightest curls when I asked for beachy waves. I emailed and called them for a week freaking out but no one ever got back to me. The owner ended up calling a week later and confirmed they do not give refunds but they would be happy to try and fix my hair. After that experience, there was no way I was going back into that place. The worst part was that the owner tried to blame the bad hair cut on me. Saying that Angel said, "I kept bobbing my head". He never told me I was doing that, no other hair dresser has told me I do that. They were looking to avoid taking responsibility instead of being professionals.I had another hairdresser do my hair and she was shocked at what happened. It is 3+ months later and I still have a horrible hair cut. I came here because it has AWESOME reviews and I had never had a blowout before, and obviously wanted to go somewhere that knew what was up. I am notoriously bad at curling my hair and I had to leave for a wedding that afternoon. My stylist came to get me and washed my hair, and then sat me down. She asked what I wanted and I explained I had never had a blowout so I didn't know what to expect really as far as the appointment, and told her I didn't have any photos since I had made the appointment 2 hours before arriving, and that I just trusted her. She asked if i wanted it straight and i said some curls would be good, but it was loud from the other dryers and maybe she didn't hear me correctly. She blow dried my hair, and then took a 1.5" curler to it, all the way to the top of my head. I trusted her because again, I have never had a blowout and generally don't know what I'm doing with my hair. I also couldn't see myself in the mirror which was on a wall 5' away and was blocked by the bar in front of me, which is why I didnt know enough to stop her when she started. After 30 minutes of watching other women with bomb looking hair, I was getting kind of excited but was a little anxious since I couldn't see myself at all in the mirror behind the bar. Once my stylist was finished I was given a mirror, and I was shocked. It looked stringy and horrible and nothing like a blowout should look. By the time i got home 20 minutes later it had frizzed and just, I'm so disappointed.Also want to mention that while I was getting my hair done a group of women came in to the salon and started soliciting myself and the other for money. It was for charity, so okay, but I'm not particularly okay with having someone stand over my shoulder until I pull out my wallet. I am honestly so upset that I paid $40 for something I could have done myself at home. I had to wash it out as soon as I got home. I love the variety of services offered, especially the "Beauty by Sheema" selections. For starters, the beauty lounge is soo relaxing with refreshing aromas and calming spa music. Sheema is very personable and ensures her clients are more than comfortable. Did I mention the products for the facials and skin treatments are ALL Natural!!! I've become a regular client for the Eyelash extensions, spa services and recently started the Body contouring service!! After only 3 treatments, I have noticeable results!!! I'm a first time customer with natural hair and I have to say I'm impressed. I came to get a silk press and left with very beautiful, bouncy curls. My appointment was at 1pm on a Saturday, so I came a bit early because I was worried I'd be in the waiting area for a year and a half. But surprisingly, a stylist was available to take me 10 minutes before my appointment and there was no waiting or double booking me with another client. In fact, in surprised they're not much busier given that it was a weekend. The stylist took time to ask me what style I wanted and she didn't pressure me into any add-ons like color or cutting, which I appreciated. I was even treated to mango mimosas by the owner and receptionist, free wifi, and everyone called me by name. Very professional and relaxed setting. It was $60 for my blow out, which I guess is fair considering this is a nice salon on Grove street. The stylist was very sweet, hair looks good, so I'm happy! Read Less

I booked an appointment at Blow-Out Bar for my bridal shower after a great experience at the salon for my engagement photos. I booked my appointment a month in advance for 10 AM on a Saturday. At 8 PM the Friday before, I received a voicemail notifying me that my stylist was in the hospital and would not be available for my appointment. The receptionist advised that the salon was booked all morning but that afternoon appointments were available. I called back and explained that my bridal shower began at 1 PM so I needed a morning appointment. The receptionist made no additional efforts to accommodate me. She insisted that no one would be able to take me in the morning and there was nothing else she could do. I understand that emergencies happen. However, the salon should have a contingency plan for situations like this. I'm very disappointed in the customer service I received, and the fact that the salon showed absolutely no sympathy for completely screwing up my bridal shower plans. What makes matters worse is that the salon has a 24 hour cancellation policy and requires appointments to be secured with a credit card, so if I had canceled my appointment with such short notice, I would have been charged for it. If you're looking for a decent blowout, feel free to come here, but if you're looking for good customer service, this DEFINITELY isn't it. Read Less

The best blow out I have ever received which is pretty amazing since it was for my wedding! As a no frills bride, I knew I just wanted a simple blowout (basically I did not want to do it myself bc i loathe blow drying my own hair). To be honest, I had low expectations but I also went in thinking it shouldn't be too hard for some to blow my hair out straight - well, they showed me! I found this place on yelp since I needed a hair salon close to my hotel in Jersey City (stayed at the new Mariott Residence Inn .5 mile away which was also amazing) that could accommodate a few ladies on pretty short notice since I planned the wedding in under 3 mos. I think I had Bridgette (and i am KICKING myself for not remembering) and she was phenomenal. I wish I lived closer so I could have her do my hair for everything. I explained it was my wedding and I just wanted my hair to look nice but not overly done and she certainly delivered. She also made sure I had champagne :) she gave a gorgeous blowout - with no flyaways or frizz- with a subtle curl that lasted the entire day!! It was simple, classic, and gorgeous. Everything I wanted! My mom, MIL, and bridesmaids all came here (one also had Bridgette) and loved it. We all love the concept of blow out bars and it was great to be in & out so quickly but also have traditional wedding hairstyles without the cost & the additional time. A few in my party had curls and/or half up styles and I couldnt believe these ladies (and gentleman!) were able to create such amazing looks in 40 minutes. I went to get my hair done for a wedding last October and obviously paid for it then. Just a couple of weeks ago i noticed a charge on my credit card statement for 526 dollars (5 times the amount i had paid in October). I live on the other side of the world and have not been back to this salon since the wedding. I have attempted to communicate with the salon twice via email and still to this day have not heard back. Sheema does an AMAZING job with my eyelashes!! I used to get my lashes by my old job and have really struggled to find a place in JC and/or near my current job in Essex County. Here, the price is perfect and Sheema does beautiful work. She's also really attentive to your needs. I'm addicted to lashes but I have REALLY sensitive eyes - which is only exacerbated by the cat I recently adopted (WHOOPS!). Sheema and I have worked together on using different creams/types of lashes so I don't react. Her hours are also great for working peeps - she has appointments as late at 8pm on certain days. Let me start with this: If you want a blowout in Jersey City, this place is perfect. They listen to you, the blowouts come out great and last a long time, they offer you a drink, and they're quick. No complaints about the blowout, and I will continue to go here for this service.The reason I knocked off two stars is because of my experience with a keratin treatment there, and my communication with the salon following this experience. I had a few keratin treatments here. They sold me on the process by explaining that there would be no abrupt curly/straight line, that the keratin fades away after about 4 months, and it would grow out rather than have to be cut out (like the permanent Japanese straightening treatments that used to be so popular).  I would never have difficult-to-manage roots, they explainedSo I did this for awhile. The person I had been seeing left, and a different stylist did my treatment the last time I went, one year ago, March 2016. Right away I could tell something was different. My hair was much flatter than it has been after other treatments, but I wasn't concerned since it would fade out. Except that it didn't. So as time went on I had curly roots and straight hair, then a curly 3 inches and the rest straight, etc. It was terrible. After about 6 months I called the salon and was told it sometimes takes 6-10 months to fade, but it would fade and I should be patient. After another couple of months I contacted the company that makes the keratin treatment (Inoar). They told me that it should have faded out, and requested I ask Blow-Out exactly which treatment type that used on my hair so they could look into it. When I called Blow-Out, they told me they did not know which they used on me so they couldn't tell me. I was unable to get further assistance from the keratin company without that information. But Blow-Out they assured me again that it WOULD fade, I just needed to be patient. During this time I started slowly cutting away the straight hair at the ends because it was the only way to look less ridiculous. I loved my long hair, but there's just no way I can keep it with half of it straight. I don't look good. I also am spending a lot of money regularly going to a curly hair salon where they are helping me deal with this and look as decent as possible. I haven't feel attractive or confident since before the last summer. It has now been over a year since my last keratin appointment.  At my next cut I plan to go very short (chin) just to finally get (most of) the straight out. It will be awhile until it's all gone. I've been patient but it never faded, despite all the promises. I just don't want anyone else to be in my situation. They offer a great price for keratin, but my experience has not been worth the price. They do a WONDERFUL blow out though, and good hair cuts. If you do get keratin, be sure to get the exact type they're using. Read Less

The first time I came to this salon. I'm not gonna lie I didn't like it a lot. The woman who did my eyebrows did such a shitty job. But I wanted to give them a second chance since I liked the ambiance there. So I payed them another visit for a blowout and I didn't regret it. The hairstylist did a good job.i came back again for a haircut. I had long hair and I was very nervous. I was attached to my hair lol so I thought I'd be sad to see it go. It's just the best here. Well, as with any blow-out spot it's not really about where you go, but about who does your hair. I was paired with Toya for my first blow out here, and now I am absolutely hooked. I've gotten many a blow-out in my time, and this is by far the best blow out I've ever had. She takes extra time on my hair, first blowing it out straight and then using a small flatiron to curl each individual piece. I've walked out of other blowout spots with lackluster hair that I could have done myself. When I walk out of here I feel great about my hair.Prices are very standard, a blow-out will run you back 40 bucks which is pretty consistent anywhere in the NYC / JC area. But, the blow-out is absolutely fantastic and the staff is pleasant and friendly. Am definitely very happy that I've found my go to spot to get my a blow-out in my neighborhood. I went to this place back in June 2016 and thought they did a nice job. They are getting one star from me because I noticed on my credit card bill last month that a $360 charge from them had mysteriously appeared. I thought this was strange because I had only been there once a few months prior and did not give permission to keep my card on file. After calling them EIGHT different times to get this charge removed, the owner still to this day has never called me back which is very frustrating and time consuming on my part. This was my first visit and I was so impressed with the place! I've been to Shampoo JC before but the stylist there had cut my hair in uneven chunks so I decided to try out a new place.Leya was great with the haircut. I had a very bad cold so couldn't get a shampoo, but Leya made no fuss about it and dealt with my hair expertly even without the shampoo. Overall I did not feel welcome at all in the salon and wasn't that impressed with my service. I think next time I will go to the doobie shop to get my regular routine. I really enjoyed my hair trim and blow out here.I really needed a trim because my hair was looking really "blah", but I had no idea where to go being new to the area and all. I called on a Saturday and they were able to squeeze me in on a Sunday afternoon.I sat down with Sara and she asked me about my hair and concerns. She was very helpful and understanding, and even though there was a minor discrepancy regarding my trim (I guess the person I talked to on the phone just put me down for a blowout), she told me she'd still be able to fit it in.My hair was thoroughly washed and she did a great blow out for my hair. I have some hair breakage and she as trying to figure out where it may have originated. For the trim, she made sure to cut my hair in a way that hid my hair breakage and was still flattering.The salon was very clean and the receptionist was very polite. She walked around and offered guests drinks as they were getting their hair styled. Also, shout out to the musical selection. Anyone that plays "Anniversary" by Tony! Toni! Toné! gets my vote. Blow out is the best!!! I booked them for my wedding in January and they did a fantastic job!! Bridget did my hair and it was breathtaking--- I got so many compliments and through out the hectic day it didn't move! Simple perfection the entire time.  Because I had 8 girls in my wedding party  plus 3 relatives (total of 13 of us) they were able to accommodate by opening early so that everyone could get done in time. I came in early on a Sunday morning. I had called Saturday and was able to make an appointment for the next day at 11. I have curly, unruly hair and was headed to a wedding Sunday afternoon and had an international flight to go abroad to Belgium on Monday evening... so I asked her to blow out my hair in a way that was loose, big curls for the wedding and would fall nicely over the flight. Service was great. The receptionist was taking care of some personal business when I arrived, but she was apologetic about it. I was washed and settled in with my stylist. I asked for a coffee, but they also offered me a mimosa.  I wish I had caught the name of my stylist, but she didn't introduce herself... but WOW.Here is where the five stars REALLY comes in... due to the ISIS attacks in Brussels, I wore my blowout for five straight days -- the wedding, an international flight, a terrorist attack, and three days of active traveling to get to our flight home. From Sunday morning to Thursday night and across two continents and 4 countries, it held beautifully.BEAUTIFULLY. That's right. A 5 day long blowout. This will be my go-to. I almost just went over to the mall because I was told they 2 salons over there but I'm SO GLAD I didn't! Her shampoo/scalp massage was amazing!  She styled my halo extensions (however they fell straight toward the evening) and expertly clipped them into the blow out style I requested. Let me tell you about Romel “The Hair Whisperer”. My hair is not easy to manage. It is curly, voluminous, long, and coarse. So needless to say, it always presents a challenge when it comes to getting a good blow out. That is, until I walked into Blow-Out hair bar and beauty lounge in Jersey City. I booked a “hair bath” with Romel and I have never been happier with my hair. It is long and shiny and healthy. I think of him as "the hair whispers" because he always seems to... know what I need and proceeds to comply. He has a passion for hair and it shows. I am so happy I found him. His blow outs last an average of 5-7 days and all I have to do is brush it before I go to bed and put it up in a bun. When I get up in the morning I let the bun out and brush it again. That’s it.
