I asked for a set of tips and whatever they used it burned my finger so badly that I'm still in pain right now(about 2 hours after my appointment). Your average nail salon but clean, quiet and efficient. I stopped in for a pedicure before dinner and the woman did such a great job. She had no problem using my polish. So I have come here years ago and had nothing but terrible experiences. The good places in town were busy and couldn't take me last minute, so I decided to only allow a pedi from them. As my feet are soaking I see the girl take the nail clippers etc that SHE JUST USED ON THE PERSON BEFORE ME and bring them to use on me. I asked to have sanitized ones and she said to me they're fine. No, not fine! Even so, get me new ones for piece of mind, this is my health!! I saw another review that the woman had actual FUNGUS after going to this place! If that becomes the case, I hate to take it to that next level but once again it's my and other people's health! After that the actual pedicure was completely half assed. It's a shame they, after all these years, still can't get it together. Wound up here with my daughter as a friend bought her a gift card for her birthday.  First.  They didn't seat us together and when I asked them didn't speak EnglishSecond.   I finally got us together and my daughter said to the woman that she was hurting her during the pedicure and my 12 year old was ignored and I had to speak upThird.    They rushed us by doing the manicure at the same time (pet peeve of mine).  I like the pedicure to relax and talk or readFourth and the grand slam.     I allowed them to do my cuticles and have nail fungus on 8 nails.    Dr confirmed most likely from manicure and that is utterly grossI will be getting my own tools going forward but in getting my nails done at LEAST once a month for over 20 years I have NEVER had a problem Steer clear Hoboken ladies! Very thorough, getting every detail of my toes looking neat and trimmed, the best leg and foot massage I've had while getting a pedicure ever! Cut my foot and took 6 weeks to heal. I had been going to Viva La Nails for about 5 years - sold (3) times during the 5 years. Most of staff doesn't speak English making communication difficult. On my last visit summer of '16 the manicurist couldn't understand anything I said & the other manicurist was translating, very inexperienced and began to scrub my foot and I told her it was hurting, she continued not understanding me. I pulled my foot away and foot was bleeding. Owner was upset, brought antibiotic cream and bandage.& reported to her insurance co. NEVER RETURNED. That person still works there. Pleasantly surprised! I gave this salon a second chance tonight. Lisa did my nails, and she did them great. I had a basic mani. She was very thorough which I liked especially with my cuticles. The older lady, who I believe was the manager, was there and while I was drying my nails, she gave me a really nice massage that lasted about 8-10 min. This doesn't happen often I know, but she was just super nice to all of the customers who happened to be there at this time. I've been going here for 6 years, albeit seeing the same girl for the most part that amount of time.  They're under new management as off early this year and I think it is fundamentally not the same place I have relied on for 6 years.  Over time I see good, quality manicuritists and finally the owner herself go.  First, the new decor is nice and all but where are the quality services?  It used to be 28.00 for a regular manicure and pedicture on weekdays and 30 on the weekends.  Now its 30.00 on weekdays and 35.00 weekends, which is fine if that's the going rate in the area....but I see no change in service, in fact, its much worse.  I've gone to several other girls and they are just not good... either by the fact that they are so new or just simply that they can't be bothered.  I've noticed the environment has changed as well, the girls I used to see there had a rapport with each other and they seem to enjoy being there, now the new ones look like they're contemplating when they should turn in their two weeks.  I'm sad to see all the more tenured girls and owner gone as this was my go to place for so long.  I highly recommend the new management focus less on their decor and more on the quality of the manicurists and services they provide. I was strolling down Washington street and was struck by the feeling of having eyelashes installed. I walked into Viva La Nails to inquire. At a whopping $150 for a full set, I was not initially convinced. Francis, who I met, was great. Great at selling that is. Because of the cost, I felt that it would be more cost effective to not do the lashes but to get a gel manicure instead. And they needed it, if I don't get my nails done within that two week period, they start to break and peel. So, since Francis was so attentive and friendly, I said to myself "I can at least get my nails done".During the manicure, Francis convinced me to get the lash install. Good service can lead to an up-sale. After having my nails done, I was led down a narrow corridor to a waxing room where I relaxed on the extra long twin for the install. Francis was even kind enough to ask me if I wanted a blanket. Of course I said yes... give it all to me! :) The install went on beyond closing time. It was only because Francis' husband was waiting for her outside, that she asked if I could return to complete the install. She asked my opinion but suggested a fuller set. The fullness would provide a noticeable but less of a Jim Henson Puppet kind of look. I obliged. She assured me that there would be no additional cost for the next day service. Horray! I returned the following day at the appointed time and the install was completed within 20 minutes. My lashes look great. Oh, and did I mention, this place does not reek of salon acrylics and chemicals. There was a delightful floral scent that met you at the door. I will definitely return on a bi weekly basis. The perks of moving is finding a new nail place.  I'm very particular about my nails and have to say this place did an outstanding job!!!! My French full set of gel looks stunning. I've been going to Viva for more than 5 years and have always been satisfied with their quality of mani/pedis.Recently, this place has gone under new management, and unfortunately the owner has no idea how to appropriately budget her manicurists time or the volume of people coming through the place. I have been here 3x since they went under new management/renovated the space, and each time there has been a customer arguing with the owner because she was left to wait. In one instance, she had a girl waiting for 30 minutes, and asked her to come back tomorrow because they were too busy. The issue is that the owner tells everyone to "pick a color" and that's lingo for, "we'll be with you shortly". This happens even if there are 10 girls waiting and only 4 manicurists working. While this has not happened to me (yet), I figured to give warning in case you are looking to drop by this salon. You're better off making an appointment to ensure you can get fit in, because they're lacking in the walk-in department. Read Less

I come here off and on for gel manicures when I can't make it to my usual salon in Bayonne. They do a pretty good job at a decent price, $30, compared to other salons on Washington. It does take them longer, on average an hour, sometimes longer. Some of the technicians stop to check their phones or talk to each other which can be uncomfortable. Their customer service could be better. I've never left disappointed  but definitely wouldn't come here if I was on a time restriction. Read Less

I've gone here a few times and they do really nice manicures and pedicures but my last experience here ruined it for me. In today's day and age, people shouldn't assume that others don't know what they're saying just because it's in another language. Multiple staff members laughed and talked about me what seemed like the majority of my time here because my nails were bitten down short and I picked my cuticles (anxiety habit). What I thought would be a nice relaxing experience turned into a really embarrassing experience and I just wanted to get out of there. Absolutely love this nail salon. Highly recommend.  Got a $20 pedi that included some callus elimination and hot stone massage. Also salt scrub lotion and hot wax on the heel while getting nails painted. Also a gel manicure for $30. Included sal scrub and neck/back massage. The manicurist I had was very detailed and made sure I liked what I was getting by showing me the paint on nail before deciding. Good customer service and great price, especially for this area. My experience getting a Shellac manicure at this location was an ok one. Upon entering the salon I was greeted warmly by the owner which was pleasant because after working a full day it was exactly what was needed. The salon area was clean, and I like how they sanitize their tools individually. The color options for Shellac were minimal. I felt myself looking over at the same shelf over and over hoping that new colors would just magically appear. After settling for a red my manicure began. An average time for a Shellac removal and redone in my experience is anywhere between 30-40 minutes. This session took 1 hour and 15 minutes. The woman who was doing my nails was often distracted by her cell phone and her other co workers. The process itself was extremely long where she asked me twice to wash my hands and took out my cuticles two separate times.   The session was completed by a wonderful massage which was much appreciated.  I would recommend this location to anyone who is doing non gel type manicures. If you are a gel/shellac customer like me I would suggest another location. Read Less

I really wanted to rate this place at least 4 stars because the process and outcome of my mani and pedi was good. I stopped by this place on a Thursday evening, was greeted right away by the lady who was going to do my mani/pedi which was a $25 deal. I was surprised since most places in Hoboken tend to be more pricey. When I say she took her time with everything ..she really did. I had my kindle to get some reading done. The hot stones she used on my legs were amazing...where can i get those hot stones!? My hand massage was great as well. My nails still look nice. They have a minimum of $20 to use your card.I deducted 2 stars because the whole time I was there, the ladies were talking about the other  customers they were helping in spanish. As a local JC gal I really can't seem to find a nail salon locally that I love. When ever I have an opportunity to be in Hoboken, I always try to schedule some nail time since Hoboken has way better options and more of them.Viva La nails although isn't the fanciest of salons, the $25 M-T mani-pedi is a great deal. I find that the nail polish doesn't chip as fast and they technicians do a great job.They use hot stone of a nice little leg/foot massage, they wrap your heels in warm wax to soften and there's a nice array of colors, though there could be more newer color options.This no frills nail salon is simple, pretty cheap and gets the job done. Bonus, they aren't strict with credit card tips. As someone who rarely has cash, I most definitely appreciate this service. Read Less
