Great quality pedi (express) at really reasonable price. Chair was brutally uncomfortable though- just a hard wooden chair at a weird angle with a throw pillow. I have been more comfortable in the middle seat on an airplane. Don't know if I can come back for that reason alone, which is too bad because otherwise the service was great. But if you can't be physically comfortable and relax, nothing else really matters.Invest in quality chairs for your services- massage chairs would be a big plus! Read Less

I went yesterday with my sister and the girl I got wasn't very friendly. Not approachable. I clearly explained that I wanted acrylics with gel and they said it would be easy.. I tried to confirm it with my girl and she said "Oh we don't do that here. We just paint." I was told this after the whole process started. So she kept filing and doing whatever to my nails. Never asked if I wanted something else and wasn't friendly enough for me to feel comfortable speaking up. I spent $50 for nothing even close to what I asked for. Read Less

I came here the day before my wedding with 10 of my girls, my mom, and flower girl, and they accommodated each and every one of us without a problem! The majority of us all got gel manicures and they lasted perfectly for 2+ weeks! I've never had a gel last that long. We had a great time with the staff who were all so friendly, and after my manicure the owner Alex came over and did some minor touch ups and said something along the lines of always making sure she gets her hands on the bride to make sure their nails are perfect! I'm from MA and a lot of my girlfriends are from Maine so we meet in Portsmouth pretty frequently. We will definitely be back on our next girls day! Read Less

I am 54 and have been a self employed business owner my entire life along with my husband. We own a Landscape, Design and Construction Company. I am also a massage therapist, ski instructor, riding instructor, mom of four, etc...So, yesterday I went into the Buff and File Nail Salon to get a gel mani and deluxe pedi...I arrived 10 min early and was there for a LONG 3.5 hrs...only to leave with two smudges and creased toes on my left foot...I asked within minutes of the end of my appt to have the toes fixed and they said to wait...5 minutes ...which turned into 20 minutes...MY parking ticket was about to expire...thanks to the Law of Attraction...my parking spot was directly out front...I ended up leaving because I chose not to get another parking ticket...The owner whom was there, Alex, was with another client at the time and was completely checked out...I paid a whopping $92.00 and tipped the tech...It was bothering me so much that I wrote an email to try to explain my side of the story...The salon is super popular, hip, and busy....The customer service and professional customer care is LACKING! I will not be going back...If anyone has another suggestion for an environmentally clean nail salon...please let me know. I did ask for a refund for my pedicure which the other owner, Andree, did agree to. Went here with my bridesmaids for a gel manicure before my wedding. It's been over two weeks and my nails haven't chipped, which is saying a lot for me because my nails usually chip in a week or so (even with a gel manicure). The salon itself was great.  It very clean and the staff was very friendly.  The thing I had a problem with was the quality of the manicure I received.  I had a gel French manicure done the day before the wedding which I hoped would stay nice through my honeymoon since it was gel.  I got the manicure done the day before my wedding, by the day after my wedding it started chipping off.  After 4 days I had to have it taken off because it was looking so bad.  That should no happen with a gel manicure. So, you make an appointment for an hour long 'deluxe' pedicure, and, at 12 minutes past the appointed hour of 2:00, as you sit down you're told "don't worry, we'll have you out of here at 3:00 because we have another appointment right after you"...and boom you're finished,  checked out and on the sidewalk at 2:55...not so deluxe! I recently saw Amanda at Buff and File for a mani/pedi. She was super patient with me when I kept bumping my freshly painted toes. She recommended the American French for my gel manicure. I absolutely love it. The white is not as bright and looks clean and natural. The salon is super cute and well kept. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well. It's definitely my new spot!! Worst manicure I've ever had. I got a gel less than a week ago and it's already chipping. Maybe I'm biased coming from a big city, but their prices for the services provided are absolutely outrageous. $10 for a glittler fade?? They were not accommodating to the rest of our party and the technicians were rough and looked they'd rather be elsewhere. No soak, barely a massage and she hacked at my cuticles. Read Less

Aside from the fact that it's so close to home, everyone is friendly and the shop is very clean. I love the fact that they do your manicure at a table AFTER your pedicure is complete. We had a wedding around the corner and booked gel manicures and pedicures for the bridal party (5 in total including Bride).  Buff was very accommodating and even though I called a week before they made sure we were taken care of! Without requesting it they brought out champagne for everyone which was very nice and set the relaxing mood for all of us that were stressed from planning mode.  My nails held up great so far and they even made recommendations on what colors they would recommend for the dress color.  Highly recommend! This was the first time I have had a gel manicure that chipped after one day!  In addition, the staff was rude and belittling to the party I was there with for my wedding and offered "express" services but charged me the full prices.  I was also told we would be provided with a pitcher of mimosas when I made my reservation, but that didn't happen.Definitely wont be back. First time here and really loved it!  I had the Deluxe pedicure with Erin and it was definitely deluxe.  She did a great job and I really got my money's worth.  The foot filing and scrub really left my feet baby smooth and the massage was amazing.  Comfy chairs and perfect temperature water - I almost fell asleep! If this nail spa was open in May 2012, we would have had my friend's bridal party here.  My girlfriend and I took a day off from life and drove up to Kittery for a big of spring shopping and decided to get a little spa treatment to start our trip.  We found this joint online and made reservations!  It's a really cute and simple space with great service.  We both had pedicures, the one with massage and extras. They have cool buffing machines for callouses (no need for razors) and my callouses were definitely softer.  We liked it so much that we plan to make this a periodic little getaway stop.Of note, they advertise that they use nontoxic products and that is pretty evident when you enter the store.  It's nice to not feel the slight headache one gets from the fumes of a nail salon. I called about 15 min prior to coming in to see if they had any appointments for a mani available. They were able to take me right away. Upon walking again I was offered a cup of hot tea. I've been searching for a good pedi place since I moved up here last year.  I was hoping this would be it... and I tried this place a few times to give it a fair shot, but overall not super impressed for the price.  First, the shop is clean and airy and decorated nicely.  I love the online appt system and the nail techs are super friendly.Now the bad (or maybe just not so good): The pedi setup is weird.  Chairs and foot baths are not really made for pedi's (or so it seemed).  The chairs are low to the ground and the foot bath is at the same height as where you sit so you have extend your legs at a weird angle, esp when they are not in the bath.  Both times I felt like I had to hold my leg up (vs resting it comfortably) when it was out of the water... hard to explain, but if you go, you will see.  Also, the last time I went, it was cool out and I had yoga pants on (loose ones) - when my toes were drying, I rolled my pants down and the backs ended up hanging into the water basin (the half that wasn't covered).  Wet pants... awesome.  Additionally there is no massage option on the chairs.The foot baths are just bins that hold water - no drains, no massage jets.  The ladies have to carry them out to a sink, dump them out, fill them and bring them back.  It was awkward to watch and kind of disappointing to not get some massage jets.  Paid $60 for the pedi and it was pretty good itself.  Not the best and prob not worth the high price but decent.  They were running late though so I missed my meter by a few minutes and got a ticket which is a bummer as my not super impressive pedi that cost $60 now turned into $75 + tip.  I wanted to love this place and the people who work there are so darn friendly but I think I'm throwing in the towel and moving on to try somewhere else next.
