So disappointed with this place, I called to book an appointment and instead of a friendly helpful response I got push back that I first needed to take more time out of my day to come in for a consultation before I could book an appointment. Which I’ve had my hair done their before (a year or two ago) What a joke! Who has that much time? I never knew booking a hair appointment could be difficult. I went there on Jan. 30th to use my gift card & got a pedicure & manicure. 2 different people did each one. I was happy with both that day & tipped each $10. I wore gloves to do dishes that week & on the 5th I had a surgical procedure. On the 6th I called because the shellacking was peeling off & said I need time to recuperate from my surgery & I made an appointment for the Sunday 2-11. I had to be admitted into the hospital that day but called before I left for ER to explain.... I was in hospital for 5 days & called while in hospital to explain this delay. They let me go back on the 20th & redid them for free; even though they should’ve lasted more than 8 days. But they basically just hurried & slapped new stuff on there. Now 6 days later... 3 nails have messed up & I just called & told them the situation. I said I wanted my money back for the manicure & I’d go elsewhere. So my nails were a rushed job. Acrylic was slabbed on and my fingers were sawed away only to result in every finger being a different shape and thick as hell to where they were aching by the end of the day. I called and asked for a refund and was assure my nails would be redone instead. 2 days later my nails look like they need a fill already cause the placement was just terrible. I have been coming here since they opened and often bring my daughters with me and up until now this has been our favorite spot. The last time my daughters and i came we got 2 pedicures and 1 fill and 2 eyebrows. We spent Well over $100 as always. My daughters matte black finish started to bubble and peel a day after her fill so we went back and they “fixed” it for us. Then a day later they started to bubble and peel again so we went back a 3rd time for them to “fix” it again.... We are going on vacation so my daughter asked for a shiny black instead of a matte finish because we can’t come back a fourth time. If a repeat customer has to come back twice they should not be charged to make it right but tonight they wanted to charge another $15 to fix the issue they had failed to do correctly twice before.. maybe they should practice the matte finish more and not punish their customers for mistakes. They could clearly see the bubbling and peeling on both instances but were very rude when we felt it was unfair to charge us to fix it a 3rd time. We have never complained before but were told we were not welcome back which is fine as we prefer to take our business elsewhere. We have been getting our nails done here for about a year now and usually have good experiences since we have never needed them to fix a mistake but our most recent experience was very poor. My mom, my sister and myself all got our nails done, my mom and I a pedicure and my sister a fill on her full set. My sister got matte black polish and shortly after leaving the first day her polish on 4 nails started to bubble and then peel. She called and went back to have it fixed and ...they bubbled again the next day. At that point we really would’ve rather had a refund but they said that wasn’t an option but they would fix them again. She didn’t want to take her chances on matte black again because we are about to leave on vacation so she went with shiny black and they CHARGED US $15 because she changed her polish after we had to make 3 trips here. Worst place I have ever gone to for my nails.. the lady who was going my nails didn’t do anything I wanted.. when she was shaping my nails she over filed one of them where it’s noticeably thinner than the rest of them and when I said something she said that’s just how my nail is. When I asked her to cleanup up my natural nails first before starting to put the fake ones on she told me she has to do that after ( which she never ended up doing) I told her I wanted regular nail p...olish she kept insisting and telling me no that’s not what I want. We had pedicures my daughter and I and she got her nails done, her nails were all crooked and mis shapen and when she complained they said SHE was not able to be pleased.. My daughter and I had an amazing experience here. We messaged the business thru Facebook and they reply quickly and follow up with us making an appointment for us. Very flexible and very nice over messenger. We are not from Modesto but is worth the drive. My daughter kept messing up her nails ( since she is only 3) but the guy who did her manicure& pedicure kept fixing it and smile at me, told me it was common and it wasn't a big deal. My sister in law,my mother in law and I went into today for pedicures. I heard of polished through friends and reading reviews. My sister in law and I both got the lavender pedicure and my mother in law got the citrus one. Oh my goodness! Hands down the best pedicure ever! James did an amazing job on my pedicure and I wear flip flops so much my heels are tore up and he has them so smooth now. I definitely will be back! I will also refer friends to this place as well. First time I visited sanctuary was in September 2016. I booked two massages one for my husband and one for myself. We had amazing service, would definitely recommend. Prices are a bit high for the quality so they rate 4 stars instead of 5. Stylists are hit or miss. I had two and eventually just had to move salons since they never could get the cuts right despite photos or/and discussion; they did know how to cut hair tho. For those who are disciples of Aveda, it doesn't appear the stylists are all Aveda Institute trained. And I'm not sure that they take notes on their clients after appointments since they couldn't remember exactly what modifications were done to the cuts at the next appointment nor could they remember individual customer preferences. Discussion amongst other customers details the same experience, but some have been happier with their stylists. The colorists are consistently good, particularly if you are looking for a consistent coloring scheme.  I recommend Tony for coloring.I've used a few of the spa services and they are among the better in town but prices are high and quality is variable. I have not used waxing services, so I can't make any recommendations there. Read Less

Today I decided to give Sanctuary Spa a second chance. I have been using various services there since 2005. I used to receive great service, but recently in the past few years, I have had some bad experiences from getting my eyes burned by hot wax to walking around with the wrong hair color not to mention, the unfinished haircut. The last time I tried to contact the stylist to fix the cut, I found out she no longer works there, so I guess she doesnt have to fix her mistake. Then today I received a new stylist thinking fresh start, however this lady was so rude, almost mean. I had to leave before she took her unhappy behavior out on me. Oh dear.  I read the other reviews and I don't know what to think.  I know that when I came here it was really great and I had a fantastic cut and color and as a result I switched over to Aveda only for my hair color.I can't speak for other people of course, and don't know what happened for them.  Maybe my expectations aren't that high as well, I lived in NYC for many years and am not used to alot of adoration and such in general.  If the product and the service is good, then that's all I care about.  All business is just fine with me.  Besides, this is Montana and not California, thank goodness. Actually, I usually feel very uncomfortable when people are flattering me and assume they are trying to pull one over on me !  Well, often they are or there is something wrong for sure.  Lol!  But I digress.I was living down at Crow when I came here and it was such a nice treat to come into town and get all prettied up and smell nice from the fantastic Aveda products.  I felt awesome when I drove home and for the next few weeks as I hiked around the hills down there.  Yeah!!  other Aveda salons I have been to over the years have not always been as good as this one and so I am happy to write an excellent review for them, thanking them for their good service.  I would go back to you but I am sadly, in Mesa AZ. Pretty bummed about this Aveda. While I have had no problems with staff or the stylists at this location, the prices have steadily increased lately and the cheapest haircut they quoted me this morning was $33, which is outside my budget. I might have accepted this but recently have had haircuts for $20 to $25 out of town in Fort Collins CO., Denver CO. and Fargo ND. at 3 different Aveda salons so I know what they should be charging clients. I don't like to be overcharged for no reason. Shame on Aveda for not being more consistent with their prices and allowing Billings stylists to overcharge for their services. It's really sad to see only negative reviews for this place as I have been faithfully going to this place for over a year now and have never had any issues that weren't complete resolved when I brought them up. I am regular when it comes to colour - whenever I want to change it up they really work with me to get exactly the look I'm going for. I've only had one mistake happen and they  fixed it for free not a problem at all. When a stylist does my hair it always turns out amazing. I just let them do what they'd like because it's fun. They include a lot of complementary services and it's always a bright and cheery atmosphere. I've also experienced their spa which is also very good. They have a very relaxing area for their services and I'm always leaving there completely refreshed. I have not done anything with nails but I've heard good things about them. Im new to billings so i went to this salon thinking i would have a wonderful experience ... they were awful the rudest people ive ever met did not make me feel comfortable at all, they did not make conversation and were very awkward when i would make conversation.. i was also unaware that you do not have the same stylist throughout your whole visit i had one girl do my color and another one wash my hair and blowdry my hair. The color looks really good they did an excellent job but the overall experience of this salon will FORSURE keep me from not going back . I love this place. I've been going here since they first opened and will continue to go back. I've had almost every service and it is pricy, but you get what you pay for. The spa is very relaxing and professional. I have a relative from NYC that I bring to the spa with me when she visits. She has travelled the world over, visiting numerous countries and every continent-literally- and she says this the best salon she's visited in all her world travels. They are very friendly, professional and cater to your needs. They offer superior products (with no high pressure sales pitches) and ensure all your needs and wants are met fully. Highly recommend!! I had the WORST experience there last weekend.  I came in with a wedding party.  We were all really excited to have our hair done and get dolled up for the wedding.  The girl who did my hair was young, but had really outdated style and hair.  I should've known immediately that our styles didn't align, but was trying to be a good sport.  I told her that I wanted to leave my hair down, but have lots of curls.  I explained that my hair doesn't hold a curl well and she suggested that it would be best to put in tons of small curls so they can "drop" throughout the night.  She immediately went to work using a curl rod.  I was happy with her progress until she had a coworker come over to assist.  The coworker had never used a curl rod before and could not get it to produce one nice curl.  She left "curls" in my hair that weren't curled all the way and were left straight for about 4 inches on the bottom (I have long hair).  It looked TERRIBLE!  All the ends were sticking out straight while the tops were curled.  It was a MESS!  Then they started ratting the top like crazy and actually told me that they were going for the "bump it" look.  Really?  I know I'm out of touch with style trends in Billings, but I hope that look hasn't caught on.  They ratted the hell out of my hair and made it look even worse.  It was truly terrible.  I'm not one to complain and usually easily go with the flow, but this was really bad.  Even the other bridesmaids were concerned.  The girl didn't know how to fix it and just kept asking me if I wanted more ratting or not.  THEN - she walked away and started helping another client!  She didn't even finish my hair!  She let the inexperienced girl (who couldn't use the curl rod) "finish".  I walked out of there in tears.  My hair looked even worse after about an hour because my curls weren't truly curls and some strands had been left straight.  It was a disaster.I WOULD AVOID THIS PLACE FOR WEDDING HAIR AT ALL COSTS.  I was shocked at how bad my hair turned out and how little they did to fix it when I expressed some distress.  It is completely unprofessional to leave a client without finishing her hair, especially when that client is in tears.  I looked around while they were doing my hair and noticed that a lot of the gals in this place have a pretty outdated, small-town style.  If you like a more polished, sophisticated look, I'd go somewhere else.  I'm not sure what happened to this place.  I used to go there years ago when I'd come through town to visit my family.  There used to be a couple gals who were pretty good and had a really modern, clean style.  I think they've all left now and been replaced by young girls straight off the farm who think ratted hair is cute and can't use a curl rod to save their lives.  If nothing else, they all need some training on customer service and professionalism.If I could give this salon negative stars, I would.
