I have been to a lot of nail salons over the years and Star Nails is easily the best I've been to. The service is friendly. I never feel like they're talking about me in Vietnamese. That is so rude! The prices are your standard prices comparable to any other salon but they do offer a bottle of water with every pedicure and wine if you get the upgraded pedi and they have a rewards program. I've never had that anywhere else. The owner seems to spend a good deal not only decorating and keeping his business fresh looking but also keeps his chairs upgraded. This place is utterly disgusting and I mean this with sincerity. Their customer service is horrible. I walked in on today May 28 ( Memorial Day) and we were not acknowledged nor greeted for about at least a minute or two. We just stood there. Then, after they asked us what we needed, we sat for 10 minutes ( there were other available technicians just sitting around) we’re black and it just seems as if they didn’t want our money. So of course we wanted to sit down by each other to chat. He tried to sit us away from each other and when we explained that we’d like to sit amongst each other, he had an attitude. He sat my cousin down and there was no water in the pedi tub and IT WAS FILTHY! I am talking about black dirt. My cousin asked why he sat her down when the water wasn’t ready. Let’s just that he was super offended and upset. He asked us to leave the establishment. I took a pic of the tub and he tried to hurry and run the water and grab my phone! I’ll never go there again! I really liked this nail shop the first time I went but the second and third time I came to get my nails done I experienced poor quality work and terrible customer service.The second time I visited this shop, I wrote my name on the sign in sheet which did not matter because they did not follow the order and several people went ahead of me. Finally got into the chair and my nail technician proceeds to take a woman who just walks in the door, complains about the shape of her nail, so the technician makes me wait while she files the lady's nail. After all that my nails were horrible done and rushed. The acrylic was past my cuticles and I even at to have her redo the paint because it was so sloppy! Then I go to pay and she hassles me about using a debit card, kept saying "you don't have any cash?!"Third time I went, I get there at 7:10pm, all I needed was a fill-in and they would not take me because they close at 8pm. They ruined my nails right before I have a business trip. I brought my own polish that I always use and it bubbled very badly. My acrylic fill was so thick. The gentleman who did my nails I later found out was the manager.  WOW.  We sat down and he started asking me "what color what color"  he was hoping for something that required no effort I assume.  I was trying to explain to him that I didn't want just one color. I was trying to show him my design. He didn't seem interested in really looking.  He put the fake nails on and chopped them very short before he asked me ANYTHING about length or shape. Even tho in the photos of the nails I wanted they were a medium length rounded point.   After he chopped them off I figured Id just get them shorter and not make a big deal out of it. Came here to get a pedicure and waited for an hour before even being acknowledged. They use the "clipboard method" to keep track of who's first but they do not really use it. I chose to try Polished Nail Salon based on a recommendation of a friend. I chose to have the gel powder coated acrylics and and a classic pedicure. The technician, Aretha, layered on at least 10 coats of the gel powdered polish. Bubbles kept forming and it just looked uneven and awful. The pedicure was just as bad, my feet sat in cold water for about 30 minutes while Aretha and her daughter took a break in the front room of the office. When she finally decided to acknowledge... me, she immediately made my cuticles bleed and cut my big toe with the nail clippers! WAY too rough!! By the time I got home that evening, my acrylic nails had already begun to fall off. One even ripped off my actual nail and tore it into two, causing me to have to pay for a doctor’s visit and pay for antibiotics to prevent an infection from starting. My toe nail polish lasted less than 48 hours. I believe I paid $85 for the services and left a $10 dollar tip. I will not be returning and would NEVER recommend this salon whastover. I wish there was an option to leave negative star reviews, because after the pain I experienced, the doctor’s visits, and the antibiotics - the situation was not handled properly and I am furious.. I went today to get a deluxe pedicure and acrylics for my upcoming wedding. Julie did both, and she did a fabulous job. This was my first pedicure and it was definitely a treat! So I'm sitting here now at the place. I got here at 9:30am. It's going on 12 o'clock. I came in for a simple overlay and pedicure.  I've had a few issues with this place as far as the owner sonny. He's rude and tries to get over on you and acts so careless. The only reason I am here is because of the lady that does my toes, Nina she's so sweet and does a great job. The nail techs are so friendly. They keep up a conversation and get to know you on a persona level. I recommend crystal she did an amazing job! Decent prices. The first time I went here and got a full set. They did an ok job but my nails were a little too short and the lengths weren't even. Some were extremely short and some were a little longer. I came back to get a fill and give them another chance. they made my nails so thick I'm going to have to get them redone somewhere. None of them are the same length at all. They are all bubbly. I guess she put too many top coats of gel and it looked disgusting so she had to redo them. Did someone say best pedicure ever? Yep. Sarah gave me a $45 dollar hour long pedicure. That was even before polish. Also wine. With the $35 or $45 pedicure. I just left Star Nails after an hour, having received no service. I went in for a pedicure at 11. There was a wait, which was fine. After 35 minutes, I was moved to a pedicure chair. The water was EXTREMELY hot, and I wasn't offered a menu of services or anything. I sat there for 25 minutes waiting for a tech. I'll start on the positive side. This place gives great pedicures and the prices are good. However, The quality of the nails is hit and miss depending on the technician you get. There is ALWAYS a long wait even with appointment. Although, they only take appointments Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. There's one lady that does eyelash extensions but the quality, again, is hit and miss. I've had lashes stay on for four weeks and I've lost all of them over night. I told him I wanted a round shape (I usually get square or stiletto shape) my nails were so messed up. He couldn't get the round shape. Each nail was filed slimmer and you could really tell so he had to redo my nail which took even more time, I was getting really annoyed. Nobody working is friendly, I wasn't talked to or anything. Then my daughter was getting her nails done while I was still getting my nails done and her pedi was already done, the other guy finished her nails before mine!!! Then he told her to go to the front to dry her nails and I finally got my pedicure. We were there for almost 3 hours! This nail salon is so unorganized and unprofessional. They don't know how to read the names off the sign in list, they take people in who just walked in and leave the others still waiting who have been waiting for a while. They don't have any appointments according to the man. The floors are dirty, the bathroom is disgusting. I honestly don't think the salon is very sanitary. Now, days later my polish has chipped, my daughters acrylic has cracked completely and my toe is infected (I've NEVER had a infection from a nail salon) it hurts so bad. I will not be back. I went to get my nails cut down and filled in. One of the owners, a older man, did my nails and left them with no shape and crooked. The acrylic I had before had color, so I ask for a different color polish to cover the style I had before. As you can see, you can still notice the blue and dark pink under. When I said something they just acted like I was crazy and kept going. That was a wast of $28 for a fill, cut down, and polish. I had to fix it myself which is the last picture. Read Less

I'd like to give a 3.5 because this is my favorite place to go for pedicures. However it's never a quick trip. Maybe I go at the wrong time, but there is always a long wait, it drives me nuts but I keep coming back for more. I love the deluxe pedi, it's $40 and comes with a glass of wine. Maybe it's just the wine that brings me back or maybe because I know it will take forever and it's a good excuse to get some quality candy crush time. The owner Sunny states there are no appointments but clearly let 4 white women make an appointment and they walked right in and said "Hi Sunny, we made our appointment, remember?". I love Star Nails.  I've been going there for several years and I won't go to any other nail salon in St. Louis to get a pedicure.  They have friendly, well trained technicians.  They have a wide range of prices for pedicures to fit any budget.  I generally end up paying around $40 for my pedicures, which seems a little pricey, but it is definitely worth it.  I got a pedicure 3 weeks ago and it still looks like I got it yesterday.  I definitely would recommend this place. The first time I visited it was to take off a set of acrylic nails, not only did they hurt my hands but they didn't get all of the glue off, when I went back they told me that it was the best they could do. I have NEVER had a take off where they left any glue on my hands. About a year later I gave them another chance b/c they are close to where I live. I decided to get a mani and a pedi. The man who started the water had it so hot that it SCOLDED my foot when I first stepped in. I should have left then but I stayed. It took them 3 times to cool the water down. The person who did my mani spent the first 15 min talking on her cell phone. And it didn't stop there... My manicure was inturpted be a visit from her husband and my nails ended up looking like crap. Star Nails is the fourth place I've gove to get my nails done here since the end of May, and the first place I will go back to. The shop was very clean, equipment and tools very new, and the staff was friendly and skilled. The massage chair for the pedicures was the best massage chair I've ever sat in. I received the worst set of nails ever from this shop. They were lifting within two days of application and looked horrible. Complete waste of money and time since I had to have them soaked off and a new set applied by another salon.
