Went to get my hair done, showed pic of what I wanted. Sat in chair for 2 hours to get color, color looked nothing like what I wanted. She basically put a color on top of my black hair, couldn't see the color at all. Paid way too much and it was near closing time. The stylist could tell I wasn't happy but didn't say much. Emailed BB and called to make another appointment to have my hair fixed then next day, got charged more and after sitting in the chair for another 2 hours (4 hours total now and 2 visits later) I finally got my hair done the way it should have been done the first time. Don't think the girl knew what she was doing at all. I know they have different levels of stylists but I'm pretty sure she was a senior stylist. No confidence at all in getting hair done at BB again. Aquila was a terrible hairstylist. I left crying and with half my hair chopped; Not before she started to pull and push my hair aggressively. All of that started when I politely asked if someone had swept before I got up. (And they had not, there was a few specs of hair) I called customer service and talked to both managers. All humiliated me. I was told she knew how to cut curly hair but that was far from the truth as she blow dried it and brushed my curly hair while throwing gel in it....after literally cutting off nothing...but probably 10 snips. I asked from someone else and they said no, we'll get you you're ticket to pay.....this place is despicable. And to make things even more solid, this woman comes into my job every single day and I finally recognized her without her hair done. I treat her with the utmost respect and check her out as speedy as possibly, I bag her things and stock what she needs to go about her day on a full stomach..... she smiles and has yet to apologize for literally having me leave in tears!!!!! I came here in desperate need for a fixing on a hair color gone wrong. The day before I went to a gal at a different salon who turned my hair banana yellow! I called up here and they said Stephanie had something open for a color correction and a trim! And she does a FABULOUS job! She never does anything other than what I ask! (And I'm picky) She fixed my hair that day about 5/6 months ago and now she's who I've been going to ever since! I completely trust her and her work, not only is she an amazing stylist she's an amazing person! I highly recommend her! Everyone always compliments me on my hair and asks who I go to! I did an exchange of a conditioner for a shampoo of a same brand. I thought I was picking up two shampoo bottles the day before. But, conditioner was behind the shampoo. The shampoo was less expensive, but I still had to pay extra with the exchange because I had used a coupon during my initial purchase. I feel ripped off. Read Less

The hairdresser I had "finished" my hair cut and didn't do the layers like I thought we had agreed on, when I asked her about the layers she said her next client was here and I could wait until she was done with her if I wanted. I couldn't believe it... Also, normally they somewhat style it or at least run a straightener through it so I can go out in public with my new haircut but I had to tie it back because it looked horrible. I would give no stars if I could. Worst hair cut ever. Asked for shoulder-length hair with layers and bangs. Basically got a bob cut all one length as short as my chin. I love that I can count on a great staff to take care of all my primping needs in one place. I've recently started going to this BB in Lees Summit and I have found another great group of people that deserve a great review. This place has such a good atmosphere, always buzzing with workers making their clients look good. Everyone I've talked to is pleasant and professional. My favorite is Angela! (Give this girl a gold star!)She did my first mani/pedi and now I'm signed up to be a regular. I've never been a regular before but i love her! She's very good and the conversation is lively. She seems to understand my simple style and hasn't tried to change me. I look forward to my appts and plan on sticking with her as long as I can!! Yay! Read Less

I walked into beauty brands about mid-afternoon, excited to get my hair dyed pink. I went in, and they asked if I had an appointment, and i told them I was here to get my hair dyed. I sat down and waited...and waited.. I waited about a total of an hour and a half for them to dye my hair, the. Walk out with a pink head. I have been going to beauty brands for almost 20 years. I love the liter sale and you can get great product at fantastic prices. I love the take 10 program. Their salon & spa service leaves something to be desired. During an eyebrow wax, I have had an extra chunk of my eye brow hair accidentally pulled out & been burned with wax, I was called to reschedule my hair appointment moments after booking it because they thought it would make more sense for me to combine it with another appointment, and the crowning moment, I waited 10 minutes this morning for my massage only to find out the girl had called in that moment and I was out of luck. I will not be coming to this location again, and let me tell you why. I normally have a great experience at Beauty Brands- I usually go to the one in Independence but they couldn't fit me in so I went to the Lees Summit one. My hair stylist, Shelly,was running late and just seemed extremely unprofessional. In my time there, she took 3 smoke breaks while working on my hair. She seemed like she had no clue how to handle my hair and had to ask other stylists what to do, even though she was supposedly a "senior stylist". I arrived for my appointment at 4:30 and didn't leave until almost 9. It was a total waste of my Saturday night. My hair looks pretty good after almost 4 and a half hours but I didn't like my experience here. Read Less

When it comes to the retail experience SOMETIMES the location makes the difference but my experience has been its ALWAYS the people. One specific person who I have ALWAYS have good experience with is Amy Standiford (Professional, Thorough, Personable, VERY knowledgeable about skin care, and always creates and awesome brow shape)! She has done my brow waxes off an on for the last 2 years! I have also gone to her for a facial! I don't know if I can always recommend beauty brands...but I will ALWAYS recommend Amy Standiford who happens to be at the Summit Fair location of beauty brands. My 5-star rating is for Amy. I would just like to set the record straight: having Asian hair in the Midwest is problematic when looking for a stylist. I'm originally from KC but lived on in LA for a few years and had many options of places to get my haircut. When I moved back to KC, I tried various salons and stylists and could not find someone that understood how my hair lays and how to create depth and "bounce" to my flat, straight 'do. Desperate, I put out the bat signal (read: posted a status on Facebook) and received comments, one of which was to try to schedule an appointment with Judy from Beauty Brands. Judy is Cambodian and her hair is very similar to mine so she was able to really give it to the attention it needed. I am SO happy with my haircut that I don't see myself going anywhere else but her from now on. I've always received really great service from BB and they're always sending me coupons so it was an even better time to check Judy out. The prices for haircuts are dependent on the status of your stylist so that is a bit misleading since they don't come right out and tell you what your stylists' rank is. However, it is definitely worth it pay for a senior rather than a rookie. I also got my eyebrows waxed there... I can't remember the young lady who did my eyebrows but I wouldn't recommend it. I've tried getting my eyebrows cleaned up both at this location and the Independence location and have been let down each time. They just do a sloppy job and they hurry through the task. When I got in my car, I realized the girl had left streaks of wax around my eye! sigh. So definitely all the stars on this review are intended for Judy but the ones taken away were from the lack of attention and care  you get for the eyebrow service. Read Less

Absolutely can't stand this place. The girls who work here are beyond rude. I try to avoid going in there at all costs unless I really need something. The girls are no help and seem annoyed whenever you ask about how a product works, etc. The store itself is fine, but the employees make me feel very unwanted and annoyed while I'm there and after I leave. Had been going to Leah for 3-4 years and was very happy with the service. I really liked the way she did my hair. But she was always late for the appointment, usually 5 to 10 minutes. My last visit, I was 15 minutes early for 6:00 appointment, at 6:25 she came out and saw her 6:30 appointment and told her to come on back and was right in front of me. I walked out and will not go back. And the front service girls are idiots. Upon entering and heading for appointment desk, dumb blonde asks if she can help. I tell her I have an appointment, still walking to desk. She tells me they can help me at the appointment desk. DUH, do you really think they can? Read Less

I'm addicted to the annual liter sale.  I usually try something different every year, I'm always happy but haven't yet found the perfect shampoo.  This one just opened and one of the hairstylists spent about 10min taking me around and discussing what might work best for my hair out of what was left.  I was so impressed i cam back a week later and had Katelyn cut my hair.  I forgot my picture to show her what I wanted, so that was my fault, but she did a very nice job and it's super affordable.  $25 for wash, cut and dry.  She also claims to be an expert in coloring (she has an art background - so that may be true).  I plan on going back and having her cut and color my hair in a few months and I'll let you know.  The spa services are also very affordable, but since they just opened I don't think the facials are available every day.  Everyone that I met there was super nice.  I'll be back.
