Like a previous reviewer I had a mixed experience... my first time coming here. I chose WOW because it is close to where I live. I liked the idea of going somewhere that specializes in event hair, or just a wash and blow dry. I have a concert tonight and it's my birthday. I wanted to make sure my style would last through the evening. When booking my appointment I wish I had asked for a stylist that had experience with textured/curly hair. It seemed like my stylist didn't really know what to do with my hair. My appointment ended up being 1 hour and 20 minutes. I chose the Foxy, and I assumed she would blow dry my hair and set it in a curl form because that's how everyone else's hair was being done in the salon. First she hand dried it which makes curly hair very frizzy, didn't section it off, then blow dried it straight.. then took a curling iron to it. I've been out of the salon for less than 15 minutes and my hair is flat and straight. The salon itself is gorgeous, loved the products she used and prices were good. However after shelling out $50 for my concert tonight, I will have to curl my hair this evening again. Semi tempted to go back before the close and have them fix it... Read Less

I had a really mixed experience here.*** Let's start with the good: - After a brief consult (no more than 1 min), the stylist seemed confident that I'd like "The Wow" - Stylist announced when cold water was coming - Warm towels changed throughout drying process (~5 used in total) - I liked my hair at the end of the appointment - Stylist asked if I wanted any final adjustments near the end*** Aspects of experience I didn't like: - No one greeted me when I walked in, but all other customers were greeted in the 75 min I was there. In fact, my stylist stopped styling my hair for a minute to walk over to the lounge area and personally greet a customer... - While I was waiting, two stylists looked over at me and sort of rolled their eyes / avoided eye contact - On its website & in-store LCD display showing different versions of its "menu" of hairstyles, there were no Asian hair models (two were black, and the rest were white) - Lackluster conversation w/ stylist, which made me feel even more uncomfortable - Hairstyle lasted about 30 minutes, though the stylist said it would definitely last till my event I got a couple of compliments on my hair, but really...not more than when I put extra time into doing my own hair.There is so much room for improvement here. I give this place 2.5 stars, and am rounding down because it's 2017 and this is in a huge metro. Like so many other businesses that consciously or unconsciously cater to white customers, The Wow Bar should probably step up its game and show that it is welcoming to non-white customers. No flexibility at all when it's pouring rain and can't do senior pictures. I was willing to reschedule but they wouldn't budge and still are charging me. I get the cancellation policy but they could have been slightly flexible if they wanted to provide good customer service. There are many other places to choose from Read Less

I've been here a few times and continue to be impressed with the level of consistency with all the stylists.  I love the model blowout and appreciate that it's been a few days and my hair is still on-point and going strong.  The massage chairs during the shampoo, the warm towels and the level of customer service and attention to detail are the reasons I keep coming back.  Love the atmosphere and so glad they now have make-up application and other services to make it my one-stop place to get ready for an event. The WOW Bar gives a WOW experience every time! The stylists deliver consistently beautiful, long-lasting blow outs in a timely fashion. The salon is stylish and clean with Kerastase products, which I love. You can't go wrong with either location. Read Less

All I can say is DAMN! My girlfriend went in to get ready for a friends wedding and they talked her into a feathered out look and she was the talk of the wedding. I feel kinda bad for the bride. Highly recommend this place for anyone! DAMN! Read Less

Just saw Elizabeth Hansen at the WOW bar in edina.... she did a vintage curl in my hair and a natural look make up application. I am IN LOVE with both! I have had my hair and makeup done professionally many times and this by far is my absolute favorite look. She was very knowledgeable about the condition of my hair and gave me styling tips. She was so gently and the scalp massage was amazing. She is very experienced, i would highly highly recommend her to anyone and everyone for both hair and makeup. Way above my expectations. The salon was literally spotless, everyone was professional, i was welcomed and instantly made comfortable. I will be coming back for sure! Read Less

I was skeptical of this place due to reading reviews after I had booked my apt and was too late to cancel.  The look of the place is meh, reminds me of someone's basement, amateur stylist spot.  I did have to wait for almost 15 minutes after my apt was to be to finally be met with my stylist.  She never really did introduce herself.   She was rather rough on the washing/massaging my head.  I did however have another stylist helping (so 2 of stylists) diffusing/blow drying my hair and curling it. The actual style turned out fabulous and is still curly as heck. So not sure what all the hub bub from other reviewers saying theirs fell flat.  While I love the look, not sure if will come back. TOTAL RIP OFFAlthough they hire a few good stylists the odds of getting them even when requested is slim to none. Today I had an extremely inexperienced & unpleasant individual. I think her "training" consisted of blow drying her own hair???  No scalp massage- only water down my back & had to request she wash my hair properly. Style NOT even close to what I requested AND they lost my file of pre-paid blow drys. WON'T BE BACK. Avoid at all costs. My hair looked looked better BEFORE I went in there. Best blowout I've ever had! I had my appointment on Tuesday and still have gorgeous hair today! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and I appreciated that so much being an out of towner. If I'm ever in Minnesota again, I'll just have to make another appointment! Read Less

I never ever write bad reviews. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and assume good intent. Not today. Today, I had a 3pm appointment for a simple blow-out. I get them all the time, although this was my first visit here. I was in a meeting that was running long and raced out to make the appointment. I called to let them know I was running late. I walked in the door at 3:15 and waited several minutes while the receptionist was taking another call. She then informed me, in the rudest way possible, that they couldn't take me. Not that they wouldn't have time to shampoo, or I'd have to accept a modified, simplified service, which I would have completely understood, nope, just that they wouldn't take me.  She even went back to 'ask' a stylist who didn't even look at my very simple hair. Now here's the thing...usually, I get it. If I have an appointment during a peak time or hadn't called. But I did, and was not told, 'hey, we are too booked so don't come in.' On a Monday. At 3:15 in the afternoon. I get that things happen, and I WAS late. But when a business can't work to either let me know or modify then it's really not working at all. I would love to rate this place based on service but this review is on correspondence. I am trying to book the space for a wedding and have been calling and leaving messages for 8 weeks. I have yet to get a return call. Last I heard, the manager was in a meeting and would call me back that day. It's has now been 3 weeks. Wondering how my wedding day might go??? Read Less

This was a nice place when it opened, or I thought it was anyway. The last two times that I had ny hair done, it fell flat within ten minutes. I had my hair done by a different salon two weeks later, and did NOT have ANY problems. I brought this up to the owner, who told me that if I didnt like it, I was no longer welcome there. She then emailed me that maybe she was too harsh, and didnt mean what she said. In an effort on my end to assume the best in others, I attempted to schedule. I was cancelled upon 4x. I get it. Retalliation for bringing a concern to the owner. I didnt post anything on here, or anywhere else. I went straight to the source. Well, I got cancelled on again today. I noticed a similiar pattern here in the reviews. That almost every negative review states the exact same problem...that their hair falls flat as soon as you leave the salon, I realized that the problem is not only happening to me, and that I should have just posted here to begin with to save others from wasting their time here. I went here on my birthday and was so pleased with the experience.  The ladies that did my hair made the experience fun and enjoyable.  Completely worth the price.  I would get my hair done here everyday if I could.  The salon is decorated very cute also. Read Less

I went here recently for a shampoo and blow dry when my water heater was out. I have very long, thick hair and didn't want to wash it in the cold.I called to make the appointment, that went very smoothly. They got me in at just the time I wanted. I parked in back - it was nice not having to deal with street parking.Service was excellent - friendly and chatty but not too chatty. It took exactly the amount of time they said it would which was nice for planning my evening.And my hair looked great! It's not going to be a regular thing for me, but I would definitely do it again and would recommend this place to others. Read Less

I had my third appointment at Wow Bar and two out of the three times I've walked out dissatisfied. My first one fell out writhing the first hour. My second one turned out beautifully and all I had to do was pin my bangs back (thanks Lauren). This most recent time I walked out looking like a cross between Shirley Temple and a poodle. It was a disaster and I had to fix once getting home. I would suggest if you go, either request Lauren or make sure you know exactly what you want and communicate it properly to your stylist. However, since I've spent over $100 and only 1/3rd I've actually felt were well spent; I will be trying another place next time. Read Less

My experience at Wow Bar was disappointing. I had an 8am appointment... along with about 10 other people. There will several problems right off the bat: 1. They didn't let the group of us waiting for our 8am appointments into the studio until 8am. So then we all stood in line waiting to check in. If you have an 8am appointment, you should expect it start then. You shouldn't expect the studio to be scrambling to open in time.2. It was obvious that many of the stylists were running late & many of us sat waiting around. No apologies, no explanations. 3. When my stylist came to get me, there were only 3 shampoo bowls, so a line formed at the shampoo bowls as the 8am appointments all awkwardly waited our turn. 4. My stylist said about 10 words to me and didn't really do what I asked of her. (I don't know her name because she never introduced herself.) My hair came undone not long after my appointment. In fact, I went home and had to curl a few of my pieces myself. All in all, a really unprofessional experience. Everyone seemed tired and/or hungover. I will not be back and I will go back to Juut in Uptown where the entry level stylists do $25 blow outs. The last blow out I had there was awesome & stayed all day. Read Less

This review of the Wow Bar is for their Saint Paul location! Firstly, parking was a breeze because they have a lot in the back of their building. I was checked in immediately and had to wait ten minutes past my appointment time. The waiting lounge was an absolute mess - there was no formal place or cubbies for clients' belongings so they just had coats and purses all over the couch. On the counters - hairstyling products and caribou coffee cups were scattered all over. So it was a turn off that there was no receptionist or person keeping the establishment tidy. The space is very modern, chic and lit up. My stylist was very friendly not to mention accommodating! A perk during the hair rinse is that the chairs vibrate! It was very relaxing. I chose the Glam hairstyle and told her I would like really big, sky high voluminous hair (don't we all?). Having very thick and long hair, my appointment was about an hour and twenty minutes. She diligently styled my hair and perhaps could have been more generous with product. The finished hair look amazing but sadly it didn't last or hold for an event I attended so I was disappointed. $35 for a blowout and style is decent. Great experience! Read Less

I've been getting blowouts for years. I often don't go to blow-dry bars, because the blowouts are often mediocre and the products not always the greatest Wow is a gem because the blowouts are great, efficient, and they use top product lines. Products are the secret to maintaining a great blowout for days! I've been to both the St. Paul and Edina locations. St. Paul just opened and needs your support! I had never had a blowout before Saturday, so I really have nothing to compare it to, other than salon experiences for haircuts. So that's the viewpoint here. Parking: Website said to park in the lot behind the building, or in the (free) ramp across the street. I selected the parking lot, which wasn't the best option as you have to walk around the block to get to the store front; they don't use their rear door for public entry. A minor inconvenience but next time I'd park elsewhere unless the street and ramp were full. Atmosphere: Clean, bright, and chic. The waiting area was a tad small, but perhaps that's because most people don't have to wait long! I sure didn't. Shampoo: Very nice. Massage chair with warm towel. Fantastic shampoo massage that is practically worth the blowout price alone. Product smelled great, and all the ladies present were chatty and having fun. Style: Being my first time, I was full of questions (which my stylist was used to and handled well). I got to watch the transformation of my hair from it's natural state (virgin, wavy but hard to tame) to movie star glam. I left the chair feeling like a new woman! It was fantastic. Makeup: For an additional fee, you can have your makeup done as well (just eyes or full face). I opted for eyes since I was going to a wedding and I wanted that little extra pop. The bubbly gal listened to my request (drama but not Tammy Fay Baker) and totally delivered. The perfect finishing touch to my little afternoon of prettiness. Bottom line: I researched the local shops on yelp and elsewhere before I made the decision to come to WOW. I did not regret my choice. I will be back, either for the next occasion I want my hair taken up a notch or someday when I just deserve a nice treat. Since yelp doesn't allow us to, I'll just state that this really is a 4.5 star review. The only reason this is not a perfect review is the parking situation. I just can't give a perfect review without a private dedicated lot and easy access to the entry. Read Less
