Definitely a place you need to make an appointment. They never update you on how long the wait is. They tell you 20 and then it turns into 40. The service of mani/pedi was really good, and I thought it was worth the wait. The massage could of lasted more then 1 minute, especially for the pricing. I had been having back pain and they noticed I kept moving while waiting and must of seen my face. They made a great gesture by bringing me a pillow and asking if I was okay. They didn't mind me stopping them to move and adjust some. The polish job was great with no mistakes that I could see. Will go again with an appointment :) Read Less

What a wonderful place and staff! I got there just a little after 4:30pm and was welcomed right in. I hadn't had a manicure in forever but T was very patient with me and so helpful! The staff are very friendly and do a great job. I was in an out in 30 minutes! They have quite an array of colors for regular and gel. I also appreciate that they didn't try to sell me on a service that I didn't need... I went in for a manicure and she said my cuticles were fine, that I just needed a polish change. I thought I'd try out this salon since it's convenient in downtown St. Paul. They had nice colors and a lot of regulars. However, I wish I had gone to my usual spot.They had me keep on my sandals, but they got nail polish on them. If I wasn't so broke and didn't spend like half my paycheck on the only pair of shoes I wear I wouldn't care :(The massage was not that good IMO and they did not have a light to help dry your pedicure, just a little fan. It also wasn't very well ventilated in the salon. When I got back I checked my feet and there was still a lot of weird skin on the bottom sorry tmi but. The morning after the polish on my big toe was worn off / gone.I wanted to support a local business but I'm not sure if I'd come back here. To "Annie Deibel" that posted that she gives it 0 stars, how horrible and how fabricated this story you tell. Some of us actually care about our local business and shops and this is really mean. Now I'm one for the truth and honesty. I sat right next to you as number one you said you liked the color, although not "honey bunny" as you called it. It would do. Also you did not complain through the entire ordeal, the lady next to me that was also there were taken back the level of theatrics. Starting to cry and standing in front of us emotional, they tried to help you and see what they could do to help numerous times. You got emotional and then complained about the color. I mean even looking at the picture these are old. You can clearly see you have issues with peeling and picking at the skin around your nails. Those ladies were so sweet and tried everything to accommodate you. She would of gave you antiseptic but you kept raising your voice intimidating her....not cool. Then after you make them feel horrible. You left and said it was fine that you will take them up on the offer to come back another time and get them redone but you were too upset now. I was still in the shop with the same customer sittint next to me, you then called in!!! I couldn't believe you paid for the service, they offered to fix, you left, and then was talking over them. It was so disruptive to the rest of us ladies that love it there. The ladies at Modern Nails always take care of everyone, after a time or two they remember your name. If I mess up a nail they will fix it if it's within the 2 weeks with no hesitation. I can understand being upset but to belittle and just keep going and in front of everyone standing there insulting them. Have class and respect for people, if you didn't like the color and/or service why wait for a full manicure to be finished, two coats of color, then pay and then still complain. I love this place, love the laughs I have here, and love these beautiful ladies. They are AMAZING!!!! We are all human, there is a respectful and ladylike way to conduct yourself. You are a beautiful girl but to have such a ugly attitude is pretty horrible. Businesses beware....you cannot make someone happy who complains about everything. To get what you wanted and still bash them and write a false review, shame on you. Seriously not appropriate and how much more degrading are you going to do these ladies. Anyone in their right mind as soon as they were hurt, even a second time would stop and say something. This is not right of you and woman to woman this is completely uncalled for. These women work hard, always will fit the last minute customer in and stay late, do an amazing job! They will also tell me upfront when I need a manicure and when I just need a color change so I pay only for what I need. They don't have to do that and they always do. I support there business, there ethics to make it right, integrity, and compassion towards you and anyone else. To Mary D- I was the other woman, two seats down who witnessed your antics.  I would like to echo Jessica's review on many levels.  First and foremost, I really love Kim, Tina and her entire team at Modern Nails.  I am lucky enough to be a regular because I work in the area.  I call Kim, and she works to find a time to get me in for manicures and pedicures.  And I am PICKY- and I get THE BEST MANICURES and PEDICURES at a really good price.  They last a LONG time and I know the quality and care that I am going to get is the best. Second, I think Mary D. is way off base on her review and assessment of what really happened during her time at the salon.  Mary D. sat through the entire manicure not complaining until the end.  It seemed like a stunt to get her money back- and then she was a huge baby about it.  The women at Modern Nails tried EVERYTHING to accommodate her- they tried getting her cream for her hang nails- WHICH MARY D. WALKED INTO the salon with the hang nails.  The technician did not create that problem.  MARY D PICKED HER NAIL COLOR- and then at the end complained about it not matching "honey bunny."  Kim, the owner, apologized over and over and offered to re-do her color, Mary D. didn't want that, Kim offered to give Mary D. her money back, and she didn't take it initially.  Then Mary D. called back and cried, like a baby, over and over about this and Kim said, please come back and get your money.  Which Mary did the next day. Third, Mary D- please get some perspective.  So you don't like your nail color- fine.  Move on.  There are bigger problems in the world- and trashing a hard working business online is really disrespectful to the wonderful ladies who work long hours, 6 days a week (Monday through Saturday!) to make a living for their families.  If you speak with them you will learn how hard working and lovely they are.  And they will give you great perspectives on how lucky we are to be in this country.  Please, yelp community, please go to Modern Nails- they are great!  Great manicures, great pedicures, great women who will make you laugh, make you feel good and remember you. This is a great find in downtown St. Paul. I called on Monday to make an appointment for Thursday at 4:30, which is of course going to be a very busy time with the after-work crowd. I didn't get started until about 5:15, so luckily wasn't in that much of a rush--it just ended up being a longer day than expected since I didn't leave until 6:45. They recently stopped accepting credit cards so I had to go to the convenience store next door (ATM fee hmph). This is a very clean and professional environment, and the staff is very smiley and friendly. Clearly, there are a lot of regulars (both for nails and waxing services) since everyone seemed to be on a first-name, casual basis. Prices are reasonable, I paid approximately $40 for a gel finger polish and pedicure, and I was happy with the quality. There is metered parking both in front and around the corner, or there is a paid parking garage, so if you're coming from outside of Lowertown, expect to have a bit of a hassle unless you take MetroTransit. Besides the late start and cash-only incident, I had a good experience here and will be back on the rare occasion that I get my nails done. Read Less

We happened to stumble across Modern Nails on Yelp! And decided to check it out based on the great reviews. We were not disappointed! My mom, sister and little niece all got pedicures (and I also got a gel manicure), and everything was fabulous. The ladies were laughing and joking with us and having a great time. Plus they did a FANTASTIC job, and the prices are very reasonable. I live in Seattle so won't be able to make it back often, but my mom and sisters said they would be back. Ps, Tina is awesome! Very friendly service!  3 of us got pedis and gel manicures.   Plenty of color choices!  Very comfortable massage chairs, and one of the quickest gel manis I've ever had, and nails are gorgeous!  AND its 12$ cheaper than where I usually go! I have a new nail salon! Read Less
