This is an advertisement for reading Yelp reviews before visiting a new location.  All the previous reviews and the business rating summed up my experience, as well.  Nails & Company was recommended to me by a complete stranger that I met in the bar.  She stated that the process I was using for my nails was harming my nails and I needed to visit her girl, Hannah, for this special gel that she uses that will save my nails. Hmph!While I was skeptical, I found myself one Friday afternoon in Edina and needing a refill.  I called Hannah and asked if she could do my nails.  She said that she has an opening and could fit me in. (1st red flag- if you are so good, why are you available for appointments on a Friday afternoon?)When I arrived, she stopped doing someone else's nails to cater to me. (2nd red flag- That is a pet peeve of mine; finish what you started before moving on). As the stranger had predicted, Hannah gave me a spiel on how the dipping powder was harming my nails and she preferred gel nails.  While I still wasn't convinced, I allowed her to give me a gel set of nails.  She has a nice personality overall was and very gentle with the removal of the dipping powder. (See? I do have something nice to say).  As for her painting my nails, it looked like I did my nails with my eyes closed.  I was in an utter shocked when she said she was done.  As you can see from my nails, there is nothing professional looking about this service.  If she was fine with letting me being a walking advertisement with these nails, then I had no problems sharing my experience with the Yelp community on where NOT to go. And yes, I did ask her to correct some of the nails, so the work you see is after she fixed what I called out.As for this special type of gel that the stranger in the bar told me Hannah used, it is nothing special from what you will find at any other nail salon.1 star for the nice lady. 1 star for the nice lady's service. I love this place they are always friendly and make me feel welcomed. Usually I have to bring my daughter and when I do they make sure we are both good and offer to help me with her. They are a very kid friendly place and I always love my nails after. Me and my mom go and I even refer all of my friends. I will defiantly keep going.Read Less

When I lived in Edina, this is the place I went for nails. At that time, if you didn't want to go to a full-service (and full price) salon, this was pretty much the only choice. I thought it was filthy, needed to be painted and had lots of rude workers, but I wasn't able to pay salon prices, so I put up with it. Then about 7 years ago a bunch of other salons opened that were brand new, clean and had great prices and coupons! I suddenly had choices and took advantage of them. I was recently in the area and needed a regular manicure so I stopped in (after looking to see if there were alternatives near 50th & France and there was not) and much to my surprise and delight it had been completely redone. New paint, new stations, new chairs, new fixtures, new carpeting and new employees! Not rude! Friendly! I don't know if the salon has been sold or if they just got their come-uppance from the newer, cleaner alternatives, but I liked what I saw. I had gel polish on a couple of my nails (after picking off the rest), but Mary removed the gel polish, did a great job on shaping my nails, trimming my cuticles and applying the polish along with a great hand massage. Total cost was $15. I will not hesitate to stop in here now should I need a mani or pedi. Give it a try! Read Less

They charged me the .50 cent debit card transaction fee, and without telling me. It could have been a bit cleaner place overall. I can't say fore sure, but I think the tub was only rinsed with water in between people for cleaning. The pedicure itself was ok for the cost, but seemed like a quick job done. Gel manicure is the worst! My nails look so crappy!! They painted right over my cuticles and the polish is bubbling. They also made my wait 20 minutes past my appointments scheduled time and they were in such a rush to finish me it only took them 10 minutes on my nails. If I wasn't in a rush too, I would have had them take off the polish. I will never come here again and I'd advise others not to too. Read Less

First of all, I am a mom and it is really hard for me to get out and get my nails done and I really value this time. I live right near 50th and France and I have been looking for a local nail place so that I can just swing by without a drive. So I thought I would try this place. When I first walked in, it was really hot and literally smell like a fart. But I decided to stay because my nails were really bad and I desperately needed them done. My gel manicure is the worst I have ever had done. There is no polish all over my cuticles and she probably put five coats of nail polish on so I'm sure it will peel off within days. When I looked at them at the end I was in such shock because I was reading a magazine while she was doing them. I couldn't really get a resolution except a $10 discount. They just look so bad, there is nothing they could do except take all the polish off and start over which would take forever. Pros: they new what i wanted matte black and they new how to do it! =] the acrylic gel is smooth even. with the polish there was a bump on one of them but they fixed it with no qualms about it, and did it right. Got them almost 2 weeks ago and they still look great. planning on going back today to get them colored and maybe a fill. My grandmother got a Pedicure and said it was very good. Cons: decor is yet to be desired. But, my grandmother and i got there at about 11am on a Thursday. and they only had 3 techs there. only one of them could do full gel set for me so i had to wait. Amist my waiting my grandmother got right in to start soaking for her pedicure. which is great. but then another woman walked in for a mani pedi said she had called earlier to get right in and 2 of the techs started agueing about who was to be seen first me or her. and when i say arguing . they were yeling at eachother from opposite sides of the salon. x_Xim a very patient person so when they asked me if i was ok with her going first i said of course its ok im not in a rush.Then got the lady in to start soaking and the lady says to her tech. your not going to hurt me because your mad now right? .. which at the time i though was rude of her. but understandably a concern. the main issue i had was that even after they had started her mani pedi. THEY WERE STILL ARGUING about who was right and who was wrong. at one point the other tech that was giving a woman with her gel mani felt like she had to interveen and say ladys!! this is very unprofessanal and if i didnt now better if i were to walk in here id turn around and head for the hills!!. which is actually exactly what happened shortly after she said something. a family dad mom and two younger girls walked in amist the yelling and then almost immediately were rushing out with there young girls. very bad for buisness.but at about noon i got a tech that walked in to start her shift. i found it unnecessary to inform her of what happened. mainly because the techs were basically right next to me and i didnt want to be a taddle tale.....  The lady i had was very nice. talked on her personal phone for most of my gel mani but thats ok i like to relax with my own thoughts while getting one anyways. She really took her time and did it right. you could watch her artiship a she was working. =] I hope this place in consistent not with the conflict of course. but i hope that all of there techs, that can do gel sets are. I have had a few manicures here. I don't expect much in terms of ambiance during my manicure so I might not be the most accurate of sources. No one talks to you during your manicure but they do a decent job and never have a wait. My nails look adequate for the price. Read Less

I went to Nails & Co expecting a cheap, fairly well-done gel fill and I suppose I got that. There was no wait when I arrived and my technician was plenty friendly. She even recommended a great restaurant down the street. However, the quality of my fill was rather low and the price was higher than I would normally pay. The polish job was alright, however not top notch and it peeled pretty quickly. Overall, I didn't hate it, but I won't be going back. Read Less

I must first comment that I have never written a review for any service or product before....but felt so strongly about my manicure that I had to let others know about my experience.Having recently moved to Minneapolis from Chicago I have been looking for an inexpensive but good walk-in nail salon so even after reading the reviews I decided to give Nails & Co a try.  I guess I was spoiled in Chicago because I have to agree with most of these poor reviews.  On Christmas eve mid morning the place was dead, which I thought was a bit odd as when I asked if they were going to be busy she said no.  I should have known it was going to be a bad experience from the moment I walked in and saw the very poor nail color selection (I wish I had brought my own).  They only had old OPI colors and do not carry Essie products.  The salon was definitely very dirty...lots of dust on all of the products and surrounding area but what I was most disgusted by was the fact that they nail clippers/cuticle tools came out of the dirty drawer and not out of a sanitizer!  It got worse when I asked to pay and use the restroom before she started painting my nails and I was told that the restroom wasn't available because the woman who had just walked into the salon (another worker I assumed) was washing her hair!!  It was just so odd...I kindly asked again if there was any way I go quickly use the restroom as I really had to go and obviously didn't want to wait until I had wet polish on my hands.  She didn't even apologize for not having a restroom available.  She then insisted that she wait to run my credit card so I had to sign the receipt after she polished my nails...which is specifically what I told her I wanted to avoid.As far as service-the woman was not very friendly...talked to another woman in the salon and someone on the phone.  The manicure looked fine...didn't last long but not sure if that was the manicure itself or the fact that I was cooking/cleaning for 4 days straight after I got it since it was the holidays.I would only go back if completely desperate because the salon is so close to my house but would definitely bring my own nail polish.  I am honestly shocked that such an upscale area like 50th/France in Edina has such an unsanitary/poor service establishment and quite perplexed as to how they can afford their rent given the poor reviews and my experience.If anyone has a recommendation in Edina for an inexpensive nail salon please let me know!!  I am also in need of a pedicure but will not be getting one from this place! I wish I could give this place 0 stars. It's a pretty dirty/gross environment overall, and they really do rush through the process here. The first time I got a mani/pedi, it was just too fast but the results were decent. Second time, I was done in under 30 min for both, and she made THREE of my cuticles ble ed, poured something over them to stop the ble eding that just made it BURN for the rest of the day and the skin around my cuticles has been peeling down ever since. A few of them even look infected and one has a little gash-looking thing now. She was also talking on her bluetooth headset to someone in Vietnamese the whole time. I always hear about places like this not sanitizing their tools between customers and even as I was drying my nails, I watched as the same lady moved on to the next girl using the same tools she had on me, without cleaning them at all. The worst manicure I've ever had!  The woman I had rushed through and only filed the nails on one hand.  When I was finished I realized I had red nail polish all over my right index finger from one of her previous manicures.  It's a very dirty establishment.  My manicure chipped after one day.  I will not be going back again. Agreed.  Cheap...but you get what you pay for.  The place holds the crown for the mani/pedi in less than an hour.  It works fine.  However, as I sit there drying my nails I study my surroundings.  There is visible dirt and muck on the floor.  A few long black hairs in the massage chairs foot bin on their way to a nasty drain.  The front window has many electrical cords dangling on it.  AND to top it off...I had to ask for the dirt under my nails to be cleared.  It does the job, but I fear fungus is lurking in every moldy corners. i guess my callouses aren't as big as mike w's, so i can't say i feel slighted by my pedicure. it was OK. no great shakes, but it was cheap so what could i really expect? all in all, my feet look better so mission accomplished.why only 2 stars? they really ought to invest in some ventilation. ugh. really bad. it's also a little chaotic in there, which i never mind if i don't have an appointment but do mind if i bothered to make one, like today. yep, i know that's totally hypocritical, but i'm just telling it like it is.will i go back. sure, it's close and cheap. can't deny that. Worst pedicure ever. Summer time is hard on my feet, and the only way I can keep them from looking super ugly is to get a pedicure every now and then.I went with my wife and my sister the other day, and they didn't even use a  Corn Remover to scrape the excess callus off our heals. This was pretty much the worst experience I've ever had at a nail place. The girl that did my nails was pretty much on her cell phone the entire time. When I walked in she was slouched in a chair behind one of the manicure tables and another lady had to tell her to help me. Oh ya- she was on the phone. And when she was told to help me, she didn't hang up. I sat in the pedicure chair while she prepped everything- while on the phone. Finally, she hung up and still didn't say ONE WORD to me. Her phone rang about 5 mins later and she answered it. This happened roughly 5 more times in the course of the pedicure. she was on the phone while she was applying the color to my nails- made me nervous. I couldn't believe it- none of the other employees even batted an eye at that. To top it off, I don't believe she used clean utensils, and she proceeded to put some filthy, used sport sandals on me to move from the peddy chair to the fan. I asked if I could just put on my own and she was even more firm in putting them on me and jerking my feet around. This place is a definite ""0"". Do not waste your money. Read Less
