If you have problematic nails, this is not the place for you. Infact- do not go to this salon if you value good customer relations from owners/management of an establishment. I have eggshell nails, so I did a lot of research into salons before choosing Velvet. They seemed to have an excellent reputation, and I was willing to pay the higher premium for their services if they could help me. I should have paid greater attention to the people with problematic experiences before choosing this place. My first nail tech who was lovely, gave me a fabulous pedicure and manicure with a calcium dip. She told me that the calcium dip would help with the extremely thin nature of my nails and most likely help straighten the bending. She was meticulous about every aspect of the manicure and very careful with my super bendable thin nails. I tell you, if this woman did not have a million jobs besides this, she should be running a salon of her own. I loved the results up until they began to lift, which hurt. I figured that with my nail type, that was probably going to happen anyway, so I went back. Unfortunately, the tech that did my nails had just gone to a schedule of one day a week, and when she was there - she was booked. Not surprised. Since the girl, who did my nails previously was unavailable, I went to a different tech. The next woman was pleasant, but did not seemed as experienced as the first. Since my nails were curving inward and hard ( both a blessing a a curse I found), I asked her to take some of the curved end off, since it tended to scratch my daughter when changing her. She did her best to remedy this. She did, however, use the rotary nail file on the tops of my nails. She claimed it was as soft as a buffer. Unfortunately, I found out later, that this was not a good tool for paper thin nails. She did not dip my nails in the dip as many times as the other tech either. The results were initially pretty, but later - very bad. Within 24 hours, one nail broke across the quick as I opened the refrigerator, across the same line where the tech had been using the dremel. OUCH! After a $55 dollar manicure, that was unhappy luck - I thought. With the next 24 hours, the calcium dip shell across my middle finger cracked when I was slipping on a pair of jeans. OUCH AGAIN!!!! As soon as this happened, I was upset and drove immediately to the salon to discuss this with the manager/owner. Let me tell you, I was upset when I arrived - but not at anyone in particular, I just wanted someone to care and help. My hand hurt - badly. I tried to explain what happened. The manager/owner initially said he would fix it, but did not have time then... then he looked at me oddly with a long pause. I asked when it could be fixed - perhaps not as politely as I ought, but he seemed to have little interest in my experience as I tried to explain what happened. I asked him to take me off the schedule with the nail tech I had an appointment with. I intended to then reschedule with the first girl who did my nails, but I did not have the opportunity. He began to suggest that I was a difficult person and "he could tell." He then suggested that I was to blame for the flaws in the manicure and calcium dip failing on my nails. He said his products are superior. He then went further to suggest that I would be nasty to his nail techs and the tone of it inflected that I probably was previously. He then said that he would not help me. All I wanted was for someone to listen and a little help the the cracking nail that left my finger throbbing. I left with two broken nails, a loss of $55, and insults. This man is the Soup Nazi of nail salons. He lost a potential life long client. His nail techs lost out on their generous tips and referrals to every student I teach. (As a high school teacher, my students really trust in my opinion - and our girls really find their nail care very important.) I would NEVER send my girls to this place for fear that they too would suffer insults or ridicule from this man. This is not an intelligent position to take with one's clientele if you ask me. I hope he does not treat his nail techs as poorly. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. If you do choose this salon and have an issue, be prepared to be called names, insulted, and belittled. It is not worth the exorbitant prices for the services they provide or the cost of your self-respect. Read Less
