They try to fool you and say that they are gel by adding a UV top coat. Gel nails are purely gel. Acrylic nails should be acrylic and gel nails should be gel. If they apply gel nails with a powder substance and a liquid, then these are not gel nails. Do I Have MMA Acrylic Nails? These are few of the possible ways to tell: •Very low pricing for acrylic service (not a special sale or offer). •Acrylics are extremely difficult to file, even with coarse abrasives. Typically salons that use MMA will only use a drill with a very coarse drill bit to grind away the product. •Acrylics are difficult or impossible to remove with acetone or other solvents. Typically salons that use MMA will use an implement to force the acrylic from your nail plate. This causes damage to your natural nail plate. •Technicians or management are secretive about the acrylic products being used. They may say "OPI", but it may be that they are using OPI containers that contain MMA liquid. •Nail plate can lift or split causing bleeding or infections after jamming or breaking a MMA nail. MMA nails do not "give" like "EMA" acrylics. How can I avoid MMA Acrylic Nails?Typically "discount shops" are known for the use of MMA, however it can happen in any salon•If the price for acrylic nails sounds too good to be true, it may be that the shop is using MMA liquid monomer. MMA liquid monomer is very cheap compared to the safer EMA liquid monomer. Therefore, shops can afford to offer acrylic nails for really low prices. •If the odor in the salon you visit is extremely strong and fruity smelling, the nail technicians are all wearing masks, the nail technicians all use drills, and the nail technicians do not use proper removal methods for acrylic, then the shop could be using MMA liquid. A few of the more popular brands of professional acrylic systems that contain NO MMA are OPI, Creative Nail, EZ Flow, Tammy Taylor and Kizmit. These bottles are well labeled. Simply ask your nail technician which one is used on your nails, and have them reassure you that their system contains NO MMA. Please note however, the majority of these devious nail tech place MMA in these type of containers as well. Don't always believe the bottle. FYI: MMA only refers to Acrylics; UV Gels and Fabric Wraps of any brand are not affected by MMA. . Report the Use of MMAIf you know of someone who is using MMA containing products, or suspect that someone is using them in a salon, report your findings to your local State Board of Cosmetology and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. You may also file a report with the Nail Manufacturers Council at 3l2.245.1595. Read Less

From my experience, the technicians are very diligent, fast, and efficient. Uses a drill,, which is not what is taught in nail school. The owner's wife drilled nail beds until they bled on several different occasions. Does everything their way instead of they way the customer wants it done. Is rude to customer by making sarcastic and rude comments when asked for something other than what they know how to do, IE., "What do you want Halloween nails??" he snapped, when asked if they would taper the nail; (they did not know what a tapered nail was, they only know round or square). One time the nail was thick and lumpy I asked if they could smooth it out, the man got sharp with me and said, "oh no, no, no, that do not look good like that!" When I told him it was thick and globby on the ends and unbalanced in the middle he did not know what I meant by 'unbalanced' so he got mad and drilled it and 'smoothed' it paper thin... one broke 20 minutes after I left the salon, 3 more when I got home by just opening my front door,, so I went back and he charged me 5 dollars for each nail and stated "You too rough on nails,, you no be too rough, they break too easy!", he said. "What you want something for free?", he said. " No you have to pay five dollars for each nail you break!", he stated.Finished nails are left rough, lumpy and unsightly. On several occasions the man did not return my change of five dollars or even offer it back when I paid with three tens, I would have given a tip but my nails looked lumpy and I was afraid to ask again if he could smooth them out for fear of being ridiculed by his sharp remarks. I have going there because it is they only place I know of in town. Several other customers have told me of similar problems they have experienced there with the man, his wife and their sister in law. The only time I ever get a good nail job there is when their daughter is in... and she does SUPERB work, but she is only there occasionally on Saturdays. So unless you don't care what your nails look like or if your nail beds are drilled until they bleed.... '?' Read Less
