I love the products used and sold here along with the smell and professional environment. Nicole does a great job cutting my hair..... which is actually pretty hard to find on my hair. Also you can get great deep conditioning treatments there, they have different kinds to fit your budget also! My little one needed an emergency haircut today. Hq was luckily able to get him in a few hours later with a guy, Derek perhaps?  Really liked him.  He did an excellent detailed job on my 7 year old.  I went ahead, and gave 4 stars due to the stylist (barber? He seemed very barber skilled ish), and the lady who checked us out.  While waiting for our appointment, I originally had the inclination to run.  It was our first time here, and was given no direction at all.  Checked in, okay.  Then I just stood there.  I think the three stools sitting right next to the counter were for waiting.  We sat there for about 10 mins, and listened to one particular girl gossip about how so and so hated her.  Haley, I think? Younger girl who also spoke about having been sick?  We did hear the other girl offer beverages to a lady who walked in after us, and an offer to let her stylist know she had arrived.  Not a great impression.  Thankfully, the haircut was fantastic.   I will give it another try.  Hopefully, this was just a weird experience with the front desk. I just had my hair done here by Sara S. My visit here has been the best all around hair appointment I’ve ever had. I came in to get my hair lightened and begin going blonde, and I absolutely love the outcome. I’ve had my hair done elsewhere before, and was nervous to try again, and now I’m addicted. If I could come every day I would! My hair is still so soft even after lightening it and taking my hair from a darker brown (my hair had been previously colored too) to a lot more... blonde. I was able to walk in for a consultation and see what could be done for my hair and if I could go blonde. Setting up an appointment after that was super easy, and I didn’t have a long wait. Perfectly wonderful place to get pampered and spoiled. A bit pricey but worth every penny since it gets done correctly. Came in for shellac mani. Nail technician was very sweet but did not clean up my cuticles and the way she filed my nails left them uneven and oddly shaped. I used to love HQ - I've been there dozens of times and have referred at least 5 friends there. Not any more. Their customer service has gone down hill lately and they are really rude when you call for an appointment. Like they are doing you a favor. Going to try some of the other salons in the area. Getting a balayage was a huge deal for me because I've had virgin hair all of my life--that is, until today. Wow, I'm going to say these other reviews were paid for. I went there, got an ok haircut for way too expensive, then had to hear the stylist "janean" basically tell me how much of a worthless person I was for not spending 200 dollars on purology. When I had told her ten times that I have used it and didn't like it, she just kept telling me I needed to try it again. It literally got to the point I asked her to stop talking about it. She's like a pushy car salesman. And believe me, it's not like I use crappy stuff on my hair, which is what I told her, then she proceeded to tell me that what I use (matrix) sucked as well. LOVE this place!!!! They'll remember who you are, and I've always had the best hair cuts, manicures, facials, and massages... The best thing- memberships!!! It's $49 a month and includes one massage, pedicure, or facial, and then you get discounts for all other spa or salon services, and your guests can receive a service  with you at the same price... I recently relocated from Los Angeles to Kalamazoo and was looking for a new stylist.  My freind raved about HQ so I had to check it out for myself.Very positive professional energy as soon as I walked in, my coat was taken and I was handed a beverage of choice.  If you are like me, one of the best things about getting a haircut is the shampoo.  A lot of times at other salons, this process tends to be rushed or consist of water getting splashed in your ear.  My stylist, Emily gave me the best shampoo and scalp massage I'd ever had!  I was litterally ready for a nap afterwards.  She gave me the exact haircut that I wanted and was so pleasant to talk to throughout the process.  She will definitely be my stylist from now on.  In addition, the floor plan and design of the salon was very attractive. I've been seeing Kaysee at HQ for about a year now (about once a month) and she is very good. I am female with short fine hair with highlights, so I particularly recommend her for dealing with those. She is also great about showing how to use products she recommends. As far as the salon in general, it's nice. Everything is clean and welcoming, and they provide beverages while you wait. This has become one of new favorite salons, which happens to be on the opposite side of the state, so there's no chance I would cheat on my favorite salon in the SE Michigan area. One of the things that I often dread is to pull up to a new salon then I discover it's dark and dingy, showing lack of care. I understand a total remodel is expensive, but even a new coat of paints helps. ANYWAY, HQ was anything but dark and dingy. It was very clean and well lit. My MIL and I were greeted right away as soon as we stepped in the door, which puts a new customer at ease.The prices at HQ aren't half bad either. My MIL got a 15 minute hand massage and a 15 minute chair massage for head and neck (neither are listed on the website) and that was $30. I got a shellac manicure and it was only $35. And, literally, the shellac mani was so well done, it lasted a full month without any chipping! I wish I could tell you the name of the lady that did my nails, but it's really a moot point now, as she was moving a way 3 weeks later. Just by watching the customers, they all seem very pleased with the services they're getting, I'm sure whoever does my nails next time will do just as well. Highly recommended. Read Less

I had a great experience at HQ Spa.  I arrived early and enjoyed looking around the front area.  They even invited me to use one of the message chairs while I waited.  Sadly, I can't remember the girl's name that did my up-do (wish there was a way to look her up on the website - makes me wonder about the turn over at the spa), but it looked really good.  I was glad that it didn't look like it was glued to my head, but moved.  Really enjoyed the vibe of the spa and wish it was closer to me! Is HQ the new Erbelli's on Yelp with its shady, shady reviews? There are seven five star reviews, only one of which is by a Yelper who has reviewed other things and isn't brand new. The six reviews were all posted in the last two days and will be filtered any minute now. There are currently thirteen filtered reviews plus two that violated the terms of service. Come on, HQ. We're not stupid. We see what you're doing. Don't do it; it's tacky.EDIT: I found out what's going on. HQ is offering $10 off if you write a Yelp review or like them on Facebook. I still think that's tacky.--- Now for my actual review. I've been to HQ three times. When I first moved to Kalamazoo, Melanie came highly recommended. I was disappointed with my first haircut--it was as uninspired as a cut you'd get from Supercuts but twice the price. I went again because a coworker kept raving about how great she is, and my second cut was just as disappointing. I tried another stylist (unfortunately, can't remember her name) with similar results. I'd go back here for trims, but I wouldn't trust them to try something new on my hair. It could just be that they don't cut a lot of Asian hair, so they didn't know how to work with the texture, but that shouldn't be an excuse.Why they get more than one star: the salon itself is clean, the receptionist is always friendly, and parking's a breeze. HQ is clean, welcoming and filled with passionate people who do their job well.  I had a  great experience recently with Karen.  She help me add a little punk rock city life to my mid west haircut of  the last ten years. The receptionist was very courteous and on top of things as well.. The coffee-tea-water area is great for those waiting and i found the product there to be reasonable priced - redken -11 bucks!    It seemed like a lot of professional people doing cool things!  I will definitely be back.  Mens haircut - 23.  Women's probably 40 and up!  Thanks HQ!
