I will say that the prices here are sometimes steep, but the service and care that I get from my salon professional, are worth every penny I pay. My hair has never looked better and it's all to my giving it over to the care of my professional color specialist, Alyssa, at Salon 297. She's an absolute genius when it comes to color, and of course she's great at cutting and style and all the other stuff but I've never had so much fun with all the great color schemes she has done for me! I've also had a pedicure at Salon 297 from Kim and she did a fantastic job. It was a treat for me and of course felt wonderful and the results were a set of beautiful feet and toes. If I could afford it, I'd be there all the time just for the foot massage. Salon 297 offers so many different services now, from massages to makeovers and they sell Aveda products which have to be some of the best smelling products I've ever encountered. They are also very environmentally aware so I know they are made of nice herbal/cruelty free ingredients. If you are in the market for a new salon, you should check out Salon 297. They've been around in Muskegon for a while and now they are out in the general area of the mall, not downtown where they were years ago. I just started going to Salon 297 this winter. My first experience was getting a lash fill done by Alexis. When I walked in, I was promptly greeted and offered a drink. They do a wonderful job of making the clients feel comfortable and pampered. Alexis did a phenomenal job on my lashes. In fact, I went back three weeks later for her to fill them again. The bed you lay on during the appointment is heated and zen-like music plays throughout the entire process. Extremely relaxing. Just yesterday I had a full foil and cut done by the lovely Cassidy. Since moving to Michigan a few months I have been going to Salon 297, which is always clean, wide range of services, and has a friendly staff. Sarah is my stylist, and she is amazing! I have thick curly long hair, and she cuts my hair so it’s easier to style and grows out nicely. I also get blonde highlights, and on my last visit I asked her to go brighter and showed her a few pictures of my hair previously. She gave me exactly what I wanted and it turned out perfect! She’s always open to feedback and ensures you get what you ask for. She’s very easy to talk to, and gives great suggestions on things to do around town since I’m new here. Long story short. My hair was severely chemically damaged by an extremely careless stylist (chair rental salon) in downtown Grand Haven. My hair literally broke off my head in patches and the remaining hair was split and damaged. I felt sad, angry, frustrated, and (worst of all) embarrassed to leave the house. The stylist and the salon offered no refund, no apology, no remorse, and no solution. Nothing. Janine at Salon 297 assessed the damaged and quickly prescribed a regimen... of deep conditioning treatments. She has bit-by-bit, month-by-month, trimmed the damage. Janine styled faux bangs while the hair was growing. And, at the point the hair was long enough for extensions, Janine found a way to make them more affordable. She has gone above and beyond to correct a problem that an awful person created. As much as I'm disappointed in some people - others give me reason to believe there are good people too. Went here with a wedding party for our hair and makeup. They did a great job and everyone was very pleased with the way their hair and makeup turned out! The airbrush makeup was so light, it felt like I was wearing nothing! Everyone that worked there was very nice and accommodating. You can tell they're experienced with working with bridal parties, they had us in an out in our allotted time. They use Aveda products which is always a plus! The salon was clean and modern. I am seriously disappointed in my experience with this salon. I am visiting from Seattle and had specifically chosen 297 for a shampoo & style appointment knowing that it is the best salon in the area. I had a wedding to attend that afternoon and wanted to get my hair done before heading over to the service. We were driving from White Cloud and was stuck in traffic behind a tractor - I was not able to get a steady cellphone signal so when the salon called me, I apologized and informed them that I am running late. I also asked if I should cancel or reschedule my appointment if there's not enough time but the woman on the phone told me it's okay and to go ahead and come in. Imagine my surprise when I checked in at the front desk and was told my stylist only had 21 minutes left in our appointment window and after that, everyone was booked for 3 weddings back-to-back. First of all, I was not that late and also, I did not care for the tone the receptionist took with me. She was pushing me to cancel my appointment, ending each sentence with "Yeah, he only has 21 minutes left..." well sweetheart, why didn't you let me just cancel my appointment when we spoke on the phone?? I understand this is a busy wedding season but please train your receptionists to confirm with your customer exactly how much time they have booked in their appointment. Had I known I only had one hour FLAT, I would have cancelled my appointment and save myself the trouble of racing here only to be turned down. Unprofessional. Read Less

I have only been here twice, once to get my hair curled before my engagement photos and once for an actual hair cut. I had Evan and he was great. We chatted the whole time and he cut my hair just the way I wanted. He also styled my hair by curling it which turned out great too! I haven't had a bad experience here yet, I just know they are a tiny bit pricey so that's my only down fall with Salon 297. Went here for a nail appointment on Saturday 6/24 and can't say that I will be back. I had shellac put on (or gel, I think they call it) and by Monday AM two fingers were already peeling off. By Wednesday, another nail was peeling. Luckily I have shellac top coat and a lamp at home, so I could fix it. Paying $40 + tip and having it last 2-4 days is extremely disappointing. The two stars are for the friendly technicians, warm neck towel and complimentary ring cleaning. But the quality of the service was lacking. I have been going here for many years (to the same stylist) and don't plan on going anywhere else, ever. I never leave dissatisfied. Anna always listens to what I want and does a fantastic job every single time. My bridal party and I went here and my girls looked beautiful. I got my makeup done for my wedding as well and couldn't have been happier (Anna made sure I was booked with their best make up artist). Okay, so I've neglected my poor hair a bit. I run a brush harshly through the long tresses. I yank ponytail holders out of my hair. I've bleached the ends. I make all the hair sins, but still, I like having long hair! I've also recently moved to the area and I wasn't sure where to go. Then I got a gift certificate for this Salon. Free makes you go places. Am I right?When I walked in it, I was immediately impressed. I was greeted and they informed my stylist that their guest had arrived (guest was awesome). The chairs are high backed and bright white. I did have an immediate worry about my jeans and t-shirt I just tossed on to come in as I was wearing a dress earlier. I felt a bit under dressed, but it went away by the warm atmosphere of the place. I am also one of those people that stylist love to hate (or hate to love). I told my amazing stylist (Jillian) to do 'whatever' to my hair. Secretly, I like to hear what they suggest to see if they vibe with me on the first meeting. I know, cruel test is cruel. She passed with flying colors and off we went. She was friendly and talkative, which I liked. She even asked at the beginning of the session if I wanted to talk or just be silent. I appreciated that about her. I felt taken care of and not rushed to get to the next client. I will definitely be going back and definitely be booking with Jillian. She was suggested to me and I waited for a week or more to get on her rotation. It was well worth it. So if you are unsure about a stylist or a place to go, please come to this salon. It's a beautiful salon with a lot of newer technology and the modern feel. How ever, I was not impressed with my services. Upon being checked in, the woman at the desk had me spell my name four times, couldn't find my reservation and asked me over and over who I was supposed to be seeing - I was never given the details of my appointment. Finally, we found my appointment and I had a short wait in the lobby in a big chair - very comfy! My nail professional greeted me and we got started on my appointment. It took over an hour for her to apply gel nails and give me a manicure. I had several concerns about my appointment - she never cleaned out underneath my nails and left the other gunk and dirt from my daily use. Several of my nails have chipped and are broke two days after my appointment because she didn't want to cut my nail shorter even though I requested them shorter. Most of the time she talked about wanting another job because of compensation for her current position and not enough consistency of appointments. Once I was done, checking out was a nightmare. The woman never spoke to me until she gave me my total for the visit. I handed her a gift certificate in which she took and after several minutes told me to have a nice day. I didn't know how to tip my nail professional or even the names of the people who helped me. Customer service here is poor and the beautiful salon can not mask it unfortunately. I will be going back to my local nail salon that provide a strong gel nail that lasts me 2 and a half weeks, not two days. Will not be back. Read Less

Took my wife for a couples massage. Everything was very good. The place was clean, staff was very friendly and the price was not bad. They had us in quickly and the massage therapists took very good care of us and made us feel welcomed and comfortable. I am not going to call out the stylist, but I didn't have a good experience here. I felt like she didn't listen to my requests, and my hair came out looking nothing like the picture I gave to her as reference. She burnt my head with the hot hair dryer, ouch. I am not a picky person about hair (it grows!!), but this cut did not flatter me. I had to go somewhere else to have it fixed. The atmosphere is welcoming and I am sure overall it's a great salon, but I don't think I'm going back. Went for the special leg massage pedicure for $48 and had been told it would be about 1 hour and a quarter whereas the regular $38 pedicure was 45 min. sans leg massage.  I did get a decent pedicure and a leg massage but was in the chair less than 45 min.  And to charge $1.00 extra for a bottled water is just plain tacky.
