I went here today for the first time to get shellac done. Upon arrival it was kind of busy and they just asked what I wanted and pointed me to a seat. The man doing my nails was kind and hospitable, however he was slightly overbearing. I was already super overwhelmed with all of the colors and he asked me 5 times if I wanted to see more colors that were regular polishes. When he brought the colors back that I picked I asked if they were shellac just to make sure since he was previously asking me about regular polishes. Another employee snapped that there's no such thing as shellac and that there's only gel. Um, okay? I've gotten shellac for years, it's much healthier and less damaging than gel. At this point, I just wanted to be done so I let him do his thing. As I mentioned earlier, it was busy and so he started rushing. At the beginning I requested that he just push my cuticles back, but he started snipping them! I stopped him and then he started filing. I'm not sure if it was from the snippers or the file, but there's a cut now. It was bleeding quite a bit when I was paying. The color is a little uneven, which could've been prevented if he took his time. Overall, 4/10 experience. I might go back, but it's highly unlikely. Read Less

They don't know how to do the nails. I asked deep french power with red color. The french lines were so irregular and clear part were stained by the power color. So unprofessional!!!! And when she realized that something was wrong, she suggested the glitter line which I didnt want to. (But i had to do it cause the line was super weird.) Then the glitter line which supposed to be a line was also spread out to the whole nail. So I asked her to fix it then she said " It looks okay!" I really really wanted to curse her at that moment. Worst mani/pedi I've had in the Kalamazoo area. Both nails and toes were left very rough on the edges and you can see all the rough file marks through the polish- not buffed/smooth at all. I asked for my nails to be slightly cut down- he clipped my nails down to the skin- way too short. All kinds of split skin at my nail base from the terrible cuticle cutting and filing my skin. Worst pedicure ever. Our usual place was booked, so we opted to try this salon. The only time they spoke to us was to tell us to pick a color. Once the pedi started, I was in constant pain until the end. He was squeezing my ankle for stability when working on the bottoms of my feet. He tried to shape my big toenail and in doing so, gave me a huge hangnail. His "massage" was him literally punching my feet and legs. If you are looking to get your nails done for a special occasion, DO NOT GO TO ESCAPE. I went here thinking I will come out with beautiful nails for my engagement pictures i.e. close ups of my hand with a beautiful ring on and I am beyond disappointed. First, the lady I had was not friendly at all. She sat down, asked what I wanted (shellac french manicure), and away she went without even a hello or a glance up at me. Second, I asked her very politely to make the white tip just a little bit thinner and she acted very confused so the lady next to her further explained what I meant. She nodded and started working again. About halfway through, she said something in her own language and the lady next to her looked at me and said (in english) "next time, come in with longer nails, it'll look prettier." WHAT?! She was clearly talking about me in a different language and made me feel like it was my fault because I didn't have "longer nails," unbelievable. After she was done, I paid and left furious. In the car, I examined my nails and not only were they not what I asked for, but both thumbs are completely & noticeably lopsided. Although they have a great selection of polish and can usually squeeze you in right away, the poor quality of the manicures and the inconsistent pricing has made me never want to come back. I went for a shellac manicure and had to constantly tell the technician where she had missed spots. There were no prices posted anywhere so the girl at the front counter asked my tech how much to charge me and she said $35. Then the cc machine didn't work so when they rang me up again the tech said $25. Umm shouldn't you know what the standard price is for a shellac manicure? Why was I almost charged 10 extra? I got into my car and realized one of my nails was already lifting up the entire side. I went in and they fixed it and told me to come back the next week for a free manicure to fix the other ones that were going to lift because the top coat was all over my skin. Well, I came back and was charged an additional $15 because some of my nails had broken and I decided to do a color change (as 3 other polishes had already lifted and peeled off). The new polish looked sloppy and full of bubbles. So I was charged $40, almost $50 total, for two crappy shellac manicures. Will not be back. Read Less

I got an elderly woman with short hair not sure her name, my nails are shaped horrible glue all over, I had to go home and file them for them to even somewhat look right. Hard rate this one. The nails are just plain average, but the service and amount of staff is good. However, to me it comes down to quality. My nails came out shapeless with a few little bumps in the dried gel that were not smoothed out well enough. Not impressed, but they did try. On a second note, I feel like I was overcharged for the shelac too. My fill cost $35 when I think it should have just been $30. But since it was gel, powder so something it was $5 more....I'll probably try elsewhere next time I think. I like my nails looking really good. I really wanted to like this place. I came here 1/26/17 for a fill with Tommy. Everything went smoothly but I was a little shocked that a fill was $33 minus the $3 for my broken nail. However, being that it was my first time here I paid and went on my way. I scheduled another appt for a full set on 3/1/17 with Tommy again. I arrive for my appointment and they tell me to come back..Tommy isn't ready, he is still with the previous client... Which was frustrating because I scheduled an appt to avoid this exact issue. However, I did not have time so I scheduled another appt for the next day. I come back THE NEXT DAY on 3/2/17 and Tommy IS AGAIN WITH THE PREVIOUS CLIENT.. The woman at the front tells me he is almost done... I look over and he is no where near done! So I proceed to wait for over 30 MINUTES PAST my appt time and he is still not done.. While I was waiting I noticed their prices. They charge $30 for a full set gel and $20 for a fill for gel.... I then realized I was charged $30 for my fill the first time I came. They charged me for a full set when I only got a fill.... So with being overcharged and them having ZERO REGARD for my appt time on BOTH DAYS.. I walked out.. they will never have my business again.. My wife had a terrible experience. She made an appointment but was then made to wait 45 minutes. She had cold water during pedicure because the woman left to talk on her cell phone for 5 minutes. There was a broken table attachment on the chair she was sitting in so she had to hold her purse the whole time. And there was a very strong chemical smell. Unfortunate experience for sure. So this used to be go-to nail salon, but my last experience was terrible. If I could rate them as a negative I would. I had a pedicure and shellac manicure. The pedicure was okay. The gentleman doing it didn't talk the whole time. Didn't ask what kind I wanted, just went ahead and did it. Which was fine. My shellac manicure was one of the worst I've ever had. He didn't even get the polish close to my cuticles and it looks weeks old (it is only 3 days). It has already chipped. I called to ask what they could do and they told me to come in and "they'd see what they could do". FIX IT is what you can do. This is a friend's go to spot for mani/pedis. The employees were not very talkative, but our attention was focused on chatting to each other. This may be personal preference but my priority for a pedicure is the quality of how my feet and nails turn out, less on the conversation. And my nails looked great! I was impressed with how well my nails were shaped. My other priority is cleanliness. Escape opens their tools from packaging, ensuing that they are sterile. I've come to this place many times to get my nails done and was always pleased. This time I went in to get a pedicure and I was EXTREMELY disappointed! I haven't had a pedicure in awhile so I thought I'd get the deluxe pedicure in hopes that it would make my feet feel more smooth. Throughout the whole pedicure I could feel my dry skin as it was soaking in the water. I kept telling the technician that my feet did not feel smooth. He only used the scrubbing sponge and not the metal thing that shaves the dead skin off. He lied to me and told me he already used the metal thing but then got up a few minutes later to get one!! And he barley even used it! I have gotten MANY MANY pedicures in the past and I know what my feet are supposed to feel like afterwards and my feet feel nothing like that! I come here often because it close to my house and the techs do a great job. However I advise everyone to avoid being service by nail tech Nicole. She is very rude. I do not cut down my nails when getting a full set. She refused to deliver the service I requested because her opinion was that what I wanted was ugly. I have always had fantastic service here!   If you can, call ahead and request Tommy or Susan!  I get regular acrylic/gel manicures with Tommy, and I won't go anywhere else.  Tommy takes his time and focuses on the details, leaving me with beautifully manicured nails EVERY time.  I also have several friends who see Susan, and they have RAVE reviews of her work as well.  Walk-ins will often be seated with whomever is available at that time -- so if you have your nails done by another nail tech and are pleased with their work, be sure to request them next time.  From my experience, Escape's nail techs are friendly and enjoy building relationships with repeat customers.  Well worth the visit!  Also, they accept credit cards but prefer cash payments in cash. I don't write reviews often but feel compelled to for Escape Nails and my favorite technician, Tommy. I live on the opposite side of town, driving by several salon options to get to Escape. I used to Groupon or drop in wherever to have my nails done but now am dedicated to Escape & Tommy in particular. He always makes sure I am happy w/ his work as he proceeds and understands the particular way I like my nails done. Specialized customer service in a busy salon is hard to find. Tommy & the rest of the staff has always been friendly and happy. The spa facility is pretty clean and has several chairs for mani's & pedis so little wait time. BTW, Susan is great too! My regular place wasn't open one day during the holidays so I decided to go to Escape for a shellac/no-chip and it was the worst shellac I've ever had (and I get a shellac every two weeks). Not only was I in-and-out in less than 30 minutes (which is impossible if you're doing every step of the process), but I was with three different nail technicians at three different tables! On top of that, they didn't use a base coat and one of the three women cut my nails when I asked her not to. Of course, half of my set was all chipped and broken within a week. A friend recommended getting my nails done here and to say I was disappointed was an understatement. Krystina was beyond rude and offensive, asking very inappropriate questions about religion. Even bringing up the topic of the holocaust never existing simply because I was wearing a religious symbol on my necklace. I told her that I was confused on why she was saying such comments and she simply responded with "well I guess we'll just talk about the weather!" (Ironically, my grandmother is a holocaust survivor) And proceeded with a condescending smirk. Never have I felt so uncomfortable and offended by a stranger. On top of that, nor have I felt the need to walk out of a nail appointment. Furthermore, not only was she making inappropriate comments to me, but also to others. It was very apparent that the two women next to me felt uncomfortable as well.The interesting part is that the owner was sitting right near us and did not interject! I called to complain a couple days later and with just saying my name he knew exactly who I was. He said he remembered the conversation and agreed that her behavior was very offensive. I'm not sure why he allowed the behavior to continue or why he didn't pull me aside to apologize.Not only was Krystina offensive but my shellac chipped after a day.I'm still in shock by the situation and have been thinking about it each day since it happened two weeks ago. The service I received wasn't bad. I've been a few times and usually I feel rushed. The facility is pretty close quarters and crammed. And the last time I went was my LAST time because it wasn't as clean as it had been previously. The staff is usually yelling at each other and there is a woman who works the front who is usually rude to the employees and unprofessional and argues with them and rolls her eyes a lot at them. I really like this place, my first impression was friendly, clean, relaxing and very good customer service. I was offered a beverage and they have over 1,000 polishes, the most Shellac I have ever seen. I love that my pedicure was timed more than a half an hour. The first time I assumed I didn't wait long enough to let it dry, but the last time I sat under the fans for 30 minutes and wore sandals. -Ohkey' so let me tell ya what hppen 2 mee'. i went 2 go get my nails done & my eyebrows 4 my pictures now personally im not goin tell people how 2 do their job but if you cut some1 half eyebrow off thats not doin a good job. my eyebrows look like edward scissor hands did them. Now my nails are so short they look like my real actual nail. The only nice part is the diamond on them but my nails have bubbles in them. like Wtf?? Uhh'' Nvr again.
