Worst experience of my life!! Didn't do what I asked for. Pink and white gel with no tips. Just pink and white over my own nails. 2 of them were short admittedly, but anyone else has built them out. Here, no. I kept telling him what I wanted, he kept saying white polish, I kept saying no. I notice he is getting done, starting to file and shape. He then gets white polish. I tell him again no, it wasn't what I wanted or asked for. On top of that, they were all wavy, lumpy, not even by any means. He continues putting clear on them without fixing them. I finally got up and said I was done. While waiting for my mother to finish, a younger woman comes over to me and asks what my problem is. I explain to her why I am unhappy. She tells me to come to another table and she will paint white tips on for me. I tell her to look at how they are done. She tells me all she is willing to do is paint them. I will NEVER be back here. My mother,sister, and I came here after an awful experience with another salon, and everyone was so welcoming and they are amazing at what they do! My pedicure was heavenly as well as the massage that goes with it. They are sensitive to what I tell them, since I am an athlete and my feet may not be in the best condition, they accommodate and listen to you. Overall a very relaxing experience! I flew in from LA and needed a good manicure. I found this salon through Yelp, and could not have been more pleased. The guy who did my nails was attentive and careful about disguising a repair so that my nails were evenly matched. I have gone here quite a few times. Better quality work than most in the area (Bar isn't set high though). And have been satisfied, not overly thrilled, with my nails. I am a licensed nail tech myself. When I go in my nails are totally prepared for the service: nail polish off cuticles pushed back etc.. less work for them. I got a full set put on. And when asked how long I wanted them , I showed him. It was slightly longer than a normal nail. The only reason I do this is because every time I leave and get in my car I noticed that they are all un even. So I have to file them straight and I lose the length. I also never ever require nail polish at the end of the service. Again because I have to file them due to uneven. I was charged an extra three dollars saying my nails were "long". I find this absolutely absurd. They were not long they were slightly longer than the average length. And I don't know what measurement is being used to determine what is long and what is not. I guarantee no extra product was used to complete my nails. And as I said I never get nail polish.... so wouldn't that balance out? Even Steven. I just find it to be a very tacky way to try to gain more money. I could've been tactless and said that I want them longer because I have to file all the uneven nails and lose length. But I didn't. And they do not tell you this when they are asking you the link and cutting it. That is deceitful. You are obligated to tell people upfront of extra charges. And they then have the option to go ahead with it or not. You don't spring it on them at the end when nothing can be done. I have always received an awesome pedicure and acrylic nail set or fill.  Mary is super friendly, highly intelligent and very talented. Her husband, Henry, is also very good with acrylics and pedis... Perhaps even a perfectionist ! There are two other employees that work there and they are great too. Never a complaint. Today was my first day trying Gold Star out because my usual salon was closed. I was unbelievably pleased with the overall experience. The only negative thing I would say is that it's not the nicest looking salon. The decor was a little outdated but the prices were very fair. Everyone there was incredibly nice. So disappointed :(  I had high hopes based on a friend's recommendation and the positive Yelp reviews.  I'll preface with the good points of the service:  the atmosphere was very nice and the women at the front were friendly and helpful. I confess I chickened out from writing my review sooner because my experience was honestly very disappointing.  I came in with damaged hair as I had recently overheated it quite badly with a hair straightener and lack of heat protectant. I wanted some advice about what I could do to fix it and also was in desperate need of a nice deep conditioning and a trim of all the dead hair. It was evident I was very upset with the damage that had already been done myself and was in hopes that I could go to a nicer salon where they could cheer me up and fix me up! However, that is not what happened at all. Upon seeing my hair, my stylist (as well as the stylist she pulled for an extra opinion) started laughing at me and asking "Oh gosh, what have you done?? This is bad" Actually there was a comparison of me to..."JOE DIRT HAIR" Yeah, umm not cool. After finally letting up on the insults, my stylist began actually attempting to fix me up. She started by washing my hair in extremely hot water (in cheaper hair salons they wash your hair in warm water before and after the shampooing, and then in cool water after the conditioning, just like they are supposed to!). Then after all the lecturing about protecting my hair from heat, she proceeded to blow dry again on extremely high heat. I know you want to finish off quickly but don't ruin my hair more in the process. Lastly, I had to schedule an appointment two days after this at a new salon because my hair was trimmed two completely different lenghts :|I have heard of friends having wonderful experiences at this salon and I am not trying to sway anyone's opinion of going here but just wanted to share my personal experience. I came here after reading positive reviews from Yelp and I was very satisfied with what I got! The employees were very friendly and the lady who did my nails worked very quickly and efficiently, we were done in about 35 minutes. I got a gel French manicure on all my fingers for $30 and was told that if I come back in two weeks to have my nails touched up that will be $20. I like my nails, they look nice and smooth and the length is perfect. She didn't go overboard with the thickness of the gel so they look natural. A positive experience! This place is amazing!!! These are new owners!!!! They are not the people that started the old gold star nail by hungry howies/little Caesars. These people are amazing! They shaped and sanded my nails, and don't price it as a manicure... Just a polish change! Yeah for saving money (: only if you want to soak and take off cuticles, Is it considered a manicure. Kristina is hands down one of the most meticulous Estheticians. Skin was left with a natural glow, pores were not noticeable. My skin felt amazing. She listened carefully to all my problems I was having with my skin and was able to customize my facial to fit my skins needs. She was definitely very knowledgable. She was able to prescribe to me what my type of skin needs for care in between facials. I've been coming to see Charlene for over two years now and I would not trust anyone else with my hair! Her color is absolutely perfect. I don't even have to tell her what I want, I just trust that it will turn out great and it does every single time. I've gone quite a few shades lighter since starting to see her and she has kept my hair in great shape and found a color for me that is just right. Sometimes she will suggest a small change for the season- some highlights around my face for summer or a little bit of a shorter bang and each time it keeps things a little bit different but always easy to maintain and beautiful. I had a really bad experience with Ninalee for highlights. I'm not sure if she placed the foils to low or if they slipped but when I left I had a very pronounced inch or so of hair at the root that hadn't been touched, while the rest of my hair was way too blonde. It also seemed like there were too many higlights and not enough lowlights, giving the appearance of single-process color with a very stark line where the highlights ended and my (inch long!) roots started. Even my husband agreed that it looked really bad. It took me two appts at another salon to fix the damage, and they were really confused as to what had been done to make it look so bad. It's much better now, but I won't be getting highlights at Utopia again. Also, I was just unimpressed with the salon overall- no one offered me a drink, and the shampoo experience was really rough and I had water splashed all over me during the process. Tara Khzouz is by far the most amazing hair stylist I have ever had! I am constantly changing my hair color and sometimes I am unsure what I want to do with it, so I will let her take the lead and she does a PHENOMENAL JOB!!!!!! She has taken me from damaged jet black hair to beautiful platinum blonde highlights (slowly but surely). I have had my hair blonde before and other stylists would just go right in and bleach the crap out of it and kill my hair. She does everything gradual so that my hair stays healthy and shiny!The last time I went in she did 2 different colors of highlights. I was really nervous but she told me she would make it look good on me, so I trusted her. It looked fabulous - blonde and bright red highlights (I wanted to do something different then what I usually did). My highlights are always blended super well. Her cuts and blow dries are always top notch. I will also sometimes cut blunt bangs and she for sure does the best job (2 other stylists made my hair look so unnatural). She does everything at Utopia from hair and makeup to spray tanning! I will be seeing her next week for a root touch up and a cut and will be scheduling two formal styles for weddings with her while I am there!!!! Read Less

I went for waxing and it wasn't great.  I was having my bikini done and they didn't give me a towel to cover up, expecting me to be ok with that when she went in and out the door.  She also used a harsh wax and didn't get everything.  I still had to shave when I got home.  She was not detail oriented at all. I'm pretty lucky that every year, at my husbands company Christmas party, the wives of all the guys that work there are awarded some pretty awesome gifts. This year, we each received a gift certificate for services at Utopia, which is just down the street for their business. After finally using the certificate, I am sorry I waited so long!I had 3 services, a deep tissue massage ( with Michelle) signature facial (Josephine) and manicure (Diana). All 3 were masters at their craft! The massage was great, she did some thing with my arm and shoulder blade that hurt so good...this is treatment you will not get at your massage parlor franchise.The facial was a bit different than others that I've had in the past, but oh so relaxing! My skin looked fabulous upon leaving. The only negative thing I will say about the facial is I really prefer when the technician tells you what she is doing during the service. I don't like that my imagination can run wild with the idea that she is really slathering mayo all over my face rather than some high quality facial cream :)Diana was very personable. It was nice to actually have a conversation with a nail technician! I have gone to Utopia three times now and I have had a great experience. The last two times I got highlights and a hair cut from Lizzy (Elizabeth Whitcomb) and I definitely recommend her. I believe she is one of the newer girls so her prices are lower, but her work is great, and she really works hard to made sure you are happy. She recommended a hair cut last time that was a bit different from what I had ever had before and it is now my favorite cut I've ever had! So she has good judgment. I actually feel like I should write her a thank you note for making me so happy each day I look in the mirror. My BFF and I decided it was time to take it to the spa for some much needed rest and relaxation. We ended up spending at least 3 hours here because we decided to indulge in a little of everything. I decided on a back facial, a 1 hour massage and a mani and pedi. I fell asleep during my massage so I was obviously satisfied. Finally woke up to enjoy my back facial. Basically it's a procedure that rids your back of all the things you can't reach like pimples and black heads. I suggest one of these at least once a year.My mani and pedi were ultra relaxing just like the rest of my day. I purchased a package and spent $150. Not bad compared to some spa packages I've had in the past. The staff could be a little more organized. There was some trouble finding my reservation when I first arrived.
