A few weeks ago, I would've given this salon higher ratings because the few times I have come in before for a basic haircut ended up decent and the owner is quite nice. However, I am not exaggerating when I say I just had the worst experience of any salon I've been to. I walked in willing to pay over $300 for a hair treatment that included highlighting my hair and getting a Brazilian blowout. Having recently had a Keratin done elsewhere with bad results, and being nervous about highlighting my hair due to over processing, I proceeded to ask my stylist basic questions....how the highlighting process would work, what color we would do, and how to make sure doing both treatments together wouldn't dry my hair or affect the color. You know, like, a conversation.The stylist had no patience to answer any questions, not about the coloring process nor the Brazilian. Her answers were curt, patronizing, and at some point just plain rude. I had NO idea what color I would end up with because she was not interested in discussing anything. She acted like my questions were a major inconvenience to her. Had to cut the time short mid-appointment because we couldn't stand each other. Then she took the pre-agreed upon price (and also the price advertised in their brochure) and added $20 to it arbitrarily because I didn't proceed with the second treatment. This salon is very expensive and had extremely poor quality. I paid $79 for a pedicure and a shellac french manicure and I am so unhappy with it. The only way that I can describe it is sloppy. I actually had the tech change the toenail polish once to fix her work, but when she re-did it I realized she was just terrible so I didn't say anything. I am attaching photos. Read Less

Terrible. No manners whatsoever. Appointment at 4 for ironing curls, I came in at 4.10 and she shooed me away. I was dressed in an ethnic costume and she was looking me up and down and said she's sorry but she had someone else coming in. Donno how she thought waist length hair can be done in 10 mins and had another client set up. I waited for 20 mins at the coffee shop above and saw - there was no client. She lied. Not a bad experience! The nail techs are very friendly and nice, and do their best to make you feel comfortable and provide a good experience. They make a lot of suggestions if you are very indecisive like me. Prices are more expensive. Beware - they do charge for $10 to take off shellac - even if you are getting it re-applied which was a little annyoing. Most salons don't charge for this if you have it re-applied, so it was a little bit of a surprise for me personally. Overall not bad, though! Read Less

I came for a conference and needed a brow wax before things got serious. The spa is pretty easy to find, even in the maze that is the Renaissance Center. The prices are good/reasonable and the techs are really nice. An issue with the space is there is not separate space for waxing. You just go to a hair station, the tech adds a headrest, and you lean your head back. I think this angle contributed to another issue, which was the tech that worked on me was a smoker, and his breath kept hitting me in the face. It was foul and I had to time my breathing to his so I didn't inhale his smokers breath (I was not successful and have been coughing the rest of the day). I have never had this problem with any other waxing experience. He also wiped me down with rubbing alcohol and it was so strong I had trouble breathing.I want to give this place more stars, but the chair and the breath were unpleasant. in a pinch, though, I would totally get my brows waxed here again. They are working very OK and as for booking so far I didn't have any problems and always book ed on very short notice..As I have noticed  they started nail treatments as well and I will try with that too. SHELLAC NAILS IN DETROIT???I move around a lot for work and didn't expect it to be so hard to find a shellac nail salon in downtown Detroit. But it ::IS:: hard. NOT ANYMORE. Go see Christina or Janelle- they're both professional nail stylists, very warm, friendly and qualified. They want to make sure your experience is everything you'd hope it would be. From massages, to deluxe pedis to ::fun:: shellac nails... they aim to please. EXPERIMENT...With glitter! With an accent nail! Don't like it? They'll fix it! After my first visit I am now a regular, great team, friendly and very professional. I also mentioned a particular hair product I used to use in the UK and they had ordered it for me the next time I came! Friendly, efficient, very reasonable (20$ for a guy's haircut!). Ask for Mona or Christina although sure they are all great. Also great nail technician for a manicure. I guess it can be hard to find a reliable place downtown but this is it!Read Less

This hidden treasure inside the Renaissance Center is a life saver. They are always ready when I arrive and give great services at a very reasonable price. They offer shellac nails which isn't very well known or readily available everywhere. If you're staying at the Marriott Hotel, you should make sure to get your services done there during your stay. They are expanding their offerings and increasing their social networking marketing soon. This is an excellent decision from one of the new co-owners who is also a hairstylist, makeup artist and nail tech, named Christine. I highly recommend Renaissance Salon. Read Less

I was in town and was told there was a salon inside the Marriott. This is actually in the adjacent GM building, but close enough. Unfortunately, the only plus was that I was able to get an appointment on rather short notice. The salon itself is dingy. The polish color selection is limited and gaudy, and the techs do not use new tools for each customer, which is disturbing. The woman who did my nails was sweet but seemingly new at the whole process and shouldn't have been doing manicures. The customer shouldn't be the one responsible for telling someone they're not quite there yet in terms of capabilities. She applied too many coats of paint and all the polish was gloppy and started coming off within an hour of leaving the salon. Luckily, no one other than myself could tell (at least from a distance) how terrible my manicure looked, but it really was a waste of money, even thought it only cost $20. The staff was friendly but that was the only positive thing I took from the experience. To be fair, this was the only service I bought so I cannot speak to any of their other salon services.
