I am SO excited to tell you about Nailstix's! Located just off Boston Road, Nailstix's is a clean, classy place to get your fingernails and toenails done. They have terrific hours (open til 7-8 most days), which makes it super convenient for people who work late, like myself. The parking lot is super tiny, but you can park across the little access road and it's only a short walk. The interior of this nail salon is spacious, clean, and modern. I was greeted warmly by Yvette, the business owner, who took time to answer my questions about gel polish, and showed me different polish options. Even though it was getting late (almost 6PM), she agreed to do at least my nails. We talked about scheduling a pedicure for another day, as every nail tech seat was full-- this place is popular!Yvette explained that they only charge $13 (!!!!!) for gel polish, nail shaping and buffing. They don't do cuticle trimming or push backs (will trim bad hangnails) like other salons do; she further said that this is actually healthier for your nails, and other salons usually do it to justify their higher prices. At first I was skeptical-- because my cuticles were dry and unsightly-- but after she finished shaping, buffing and polishing, I could hardly believe these were my nails! They looked gorgeous! I opted for a nude/natural gel polish. Another nail tech was free, and so she offered to do my pedicure. The shaping and polish came first, then a soak in the pedi tub with skin scrubs and a pumice stone. Even though my pedicure took us right up to 7PM (and a few minutes beyond, to pay), no one complained or made me feel uncomfortable. In fact, all of the ladies were very kind, talkative, and friendly-- something that's rare in nail salons these days. Here's the one "downer" about Nailstix's: they're cash only. No debit/credit cards. In the adjacent shopping mall, there's an ATM at the laundromat, and so I walked over there to get cash to pay. Very inconvenient, yes. And while the gel polish on my nails was an absolute steal at $13, the pedicure cost $47 dollars, likely because of the skin scrubs and pumice stone paring down. This price is pretty standard among nail salons; however, had I known the cost of the pedi ahead of time, I may have skipped it. I will most definitely be back to Nailstix's for gel polish changes on my fingers and toes. I can tell you right now that I've put this polish to the test already: I've washed dishes, opened Coke cans, and otherwise scraped, dinged, and scratched my nails, with no noticeable trace of chipping. My nails look better than they ever have-- the plus being that Yvette and company really care about the health of your nails, and aren't just looking to make a buck.
