Meh. I got a pedicure and it was fine but nothing special. I paid extra for the spa pedicure and it's unclear what it got me other than some warm stones rubbed on my feet for a few minutes. I live nearby and have come here 5-6 times for pedicures since they opened.  The place is really clean, comfortable (great massage chairs), quiet and open.  The people who work here are always really nice and do an excellent job--they don't rush and they always remember me.   I highly recommend this salon.  It's now my go-to pedicure place! I had a very bad experience here. I made an appointment on Friday for Saturday morning for an acrylic refill. There is only one woman there that does acrylics. She started working on me and then a walk in came in and asked for a refill and my manicurist started rushing. The nails were horribly misshapen and she painted them so sloppily. I calmly and politely told her that they were all misshapen and poorly and she told me it was MY fault because I should have stopped her earlier on if I didn't think they looked good. She said I could come back later in the week and she could fix them (so she acknowledge they were awful) but I will NOT be back. She still charged me a full 35 dollars for this. I will never return. Kevin was absolutely amazing!! It was my first time coming here and wanted to see what this place was about because it had tons of good reviews. I got there 30 min before they even opened. I looked at time wrong on their website but they opened their doors and helped me right away. That's awesome customer service!! This place has won me over as customer for life! Solid nail salon and best yet that I have been to in the area. I believe I had Kevin and he did a really great job on my pedi and gel manicure. He was great to talk with and was genuinely interested to what I had to say. I had made an appointment and they took me right on time which was a pleasant surprise given I have waited 10,15, and even 30 minutes at a few other nail salons in the area. Forge is right next door which is a great option to hang out and get a coffee in case you are a walk in and have to wait. Everything is very clean and sterilized. If you live in Somerville- go here! I am in purgatory right now. Trying to find a good nail shop. There are so many things to consider like business hours, number of customers, the quality of work, prices. So finding a good shop that meets all your criteria's is very difficult. I am very picky with my manicures cause who likes to pay so much for something that will be ruined soon. So I needed a gel manicure and I was set on doing it that day. After going to so many shops I found this one open till 8. When you first walk in the place looks sketch but the ppl are nice. So she tells me wait a few minutes which I did. This isn't somewhere I would walk into and stay if I had other options. Just looks run down any way I start getting my nails done and the lady is so nice and were talking and she's doing my manicure and I quickly grow a liking to this establishment. Being new to the area, I was in search of a new nail salon that was clean and professional. This salon is both of those. I came in for a pedicure on a Saturday morning and was in a chair right away. I love the massage chairs they offer! All pedicure tubs use a plastic covering to keep them clean for each use. My nail technician took her time with a thorough pedicure and relaxing massage. Prices are comparable to other salons in the area, $26 for a spa pedicure. I would visit again 100%. Read Less

Kevin and Nancy took care of my friend and I. There is parking nearby and the job they did on my feet (that ain't seen no love for 2 years - I am busy, what.) beautiful. I have been coming to Nail Spa Excel for quite a few times .The first couple times my pedi and mani were done by a young tech and I really enjoyed it. She was friendly and nice, took her time on cleaning my nails and rubbing my legs. My gel mani lasted up to three weeks . She also gave the best eyebrown wax. The last two times, my mani pedi were done by an older lady and it was not the same at all. She got my pedi done less than 10 minutes. My gel mani was rushed and applied unevenly. She seemed mad and made me feel uncomfortable.I was so disappointed when I left. Over all the salon is very clean , and the chair massage is great. This is a new place, very friendly atmosphere, nice calming music all the time, the massaging chairs are THE best I have experienced.First of all I wanna tell you how I found this place - (I had a mani-pedi appointment at this other place -Hollywood nails in Somerville, who said they cannot do my nails as they were busy, even though I had an appointment!!!!! Total disappointment)Anyway, so I looked other nail salons in the area and I called Nail Spa Excel, and asked them if they are not busy and can do my nails that moment. They happily said 'yes ofcourse please come in'! My padi was done by Helen and mani was done by Nancy. They both were nice, but Helen was the best. She was SO friendly and attentive. She kept checking if I was happy with my toe nails. Very Friendly and Nice atmosphere. I wished my mani wasn't done in a rush though. Nancy did my mani in less than 10 mins while standing, while my padi was going on. But she did a good job. However, my padi was excellent. I am definitely going back to Helen. Check it out yourself! I came here because I needed a gel manicure and there was a parking spot out front.  The salon itself is really run down to the point of appearing dirty.  I should have just turned around when I walked in, but I was desperate.  While I didn't look at the regular nail polish, the color/brand choices seemed limited.  The gel choices were okay, although very few OPI colors.  (I have never seen the brand that they had the majority of their gel colors in.)I specifically asked the woman (Tina?) who did my nails not to file them or shape them - they are short and the shape suits my hands.  When she trimmed my cuticles, she actually cut skin around the edges of my nails - NOT cuticles! - and then used the tool to cut the edges of my nails, so now some of them have weird cut-out corners - they look like little ledges - and some look like chiclets. It's ridiculous.  When she applied the basecoat, I had to direct her to actually cover my whole nail. When I pointed out that she wasn't going to the edge (side), she sort of fought back. I don't know if it was the language barrier or something else... I'm glad that I did stick to my guns, though, because after that it seemed that she was paying attention to what she was doing and actually covered the whole nail.  I'm noticing now, however (next day) that she painted over basically every cuticle (at base of nail) - which means that the second they start to grow out, the edge is going to catch on everything and I'll likely end up peeling them off. Minimal lotion/hand massageI need to just buy an at-home gel kit...UPDATE, 2 days later: I keep looking at them. Literally the WORST manicure I've ever gotten. Read Less
