I have been a customer for several year now.   I travel in from Boston every two weeks. Although there are several nail salons within walking distance from my condo I prefer to come to Angel Nails because my nails are done to perfection every time. I also have my eyebrows done and I can honestly say I wouldn't trust anyone else to wax them.  I followed Ruby from my previous salon.   Angel nails is cleanand all of the technicians are friendly and very knowledgeable.   I strongly recommend Angel Nails. My friend and I came in for a quick pedicure (for me) and manicure (for her) before a wedding that evening. Long story short, my pedicure took 2.5 hours and had to be redone (gel polish). When it was re-done correctly, it looked fine and lasted, but I was pretty appalled she charged me full price after all that. I wanted to get my nails done and I was far from where I usually get my nails done so I found this nail salon near my boyfriends house I went in the last were really nice. I wanted a full set with gel color pink. It took really long and she didn't paint them real good some spots wasn't covers on my nail I asked for more on them but that didn't help. Don't go here for a manicure unless you enjoy rushed, sub-par work, and don't mind a few cuticle wounds. I had my first gel manicure a few weeks before (somewhere else) and it needed to be removed. I went here because it is close by and was open, and that is the last time I make convenience the deciding factor for any beauty services. She FILED OFF THE GEL. Didn't soak it, filed it completely off. I told her my nails are thin and this was bad and not the way to do it, but she said it was a normal way to remove it. She was doing it to rush the process as they closed in an hour. My cuticles were cut too short, they are painful when I wash my hands,  and she filed my nails down to nothing.My nail beds look like I dragged them along concrete. You can even see the grooves under my polish. I was rushed out the door, with her telling me my nails were dry and they weren't (and didn't listen to me when I tried to show her), and two were ruined within minutes. I had to repaint my nails 20 minutes after a manicure. If you are looking for nail care in Union Square, go somewhere else. Read Less

I've been going to Ruby for the last 6 years (she was at a salon in Boston), with a year break since I moved to Somerville.  I ended up going back to her since the other salon I went to in Porter Square took off most of my eyebrows and I'm trying to grow it back!   I was so excited to find out that Ruby just came to Angel Nail Salon in Union Square!!!! I visited numerous nail salons until I met Tina in Melrose (approx 15 years ago!) & have gone nowhere since.   Not only is she GOOD, but she's personable, pays attention to your needs/concerns & is also very accommodating to my varying schedules!  I wish her the best in her new salon. This is my first visit to Angel Nails under the new management, and I was quite pleased. The space is lighter and brighter with new paint, and great massaging chairs. Tina, the owner, is very friendly and helpful, and did a great job on my gel manicure. Teddy did a very nice job on my gel pedi. The atmosphere was relaxed, and best of all, it was a bargain with their current 15% discount: gel mani/pedi for $52! Also note that the old owner is still working at Angel Nails, so you can see her regularly, too (she did a great job on my nails when I went there--one of the longest lasting regular manis I've ever had.) Boo-!I was so bummed that this very convenient location to my apt. didn't work out for me.. I went in and ordered my usual french tip shellac manicure and not only did it take 1 1/2 hours, but it was NOT what the doctor ordered...The filing was sub-par, my tips did not cover the growth of my nail, and the method was a bit off from what i'm used to (ex: they put the initial base coat only on the tips, cured it, and THEN did the white tips..... seemed a bit odd- are they trying to save a few bucks on shellac or something??).The ladies there were nice enough- no issues there.. and as far as decor, there are the usual cheap early 90s posters, plastic flowers, etc.. I wouldn't have minded if the actual service was good, but oh well- I gave it a shot!One tiny "pro" -- it was a few bucks cheaper than elsewhere.... but I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get what I came in for. My nails came out alright, but the manicurist's husband or some man was sitting in a beach chair in the middle of the floor half falling asleep and flipping through channels. The nail stations had the manicurist's food on them.  She also picked her ear in the middle of working on my nails. I just felt that it was all really unprofessional. Read Less

Yes-the decor is dated, the manicurist will talk politics the whole time in broken English, and they will ALWAYS ask if you want gel. But I just need to say that I love this place.  There's something about another person doing my nails that just makes me feel like a celebrity, and at $11 manicures I can afford to feel like a celeb weekly.  I've gotten a pedicure there as well but would be more inclined to spend a bit more on a pedi because I do it less frequently.  I was disappointed when I first moved here because they were closed on Sundays but I walked past just yesterday and they were open which makes my heart sing.  Nothing better than a little brunch, bad tv, and a new coat of nail polish to help you nurse that Sunday hangover.  I'm not cheating on them anytime soon. I was in union square at acupuncture during the recent snow storm, and instead of hiking up to porter decided to come to a place in union square to get my nails done as well.  The husband and wife team that own Angel are both very sweet and mani pedi is $30 which is a total steal these days.  However, the place is definitely run down and definitely does not use the right sanitary practices.  When I got my pedicure she used one of those tools on me that looks like an electric screw driver and is used to sand off calluses. She did use a new sander attachment for me, but I am pretty sure those things are illegal.  When I got my manicure I noticed that the tools that were used were the same ones that were used on others and did not appear to be sterilized.  Mani pedi did come out ok though.  There didn't seem to be any heat so they had space heaters on, which was fine but it was a bit chilly b/c of the snow.  My overall impression is that they don't make much on the business so they are doing the best they can with what they have, and are nice people that mean well.  They let me put the tip on my credit card since I was walking and didn't have my wallet which was nice.  So like I said, nice people that mean well however, I would definitely like to see some more sterilization and cleanly practices.  It is too bad that this is the only nail place in Union! My usual nail place was too busy to take me last minute, so I decided to check out Angel Nails. It's conveniently located right in Union Square - and they were willing to take me without any real advance notice.The place is small, but clean. The two owners are a married couple. The woman did my full set - she was friendly, engaging and gentle. The man did the actual painting of my nails, and that was a little sloppy (but I've come to rexpect that from male manicurists).My total came to $22, which I found to be really reasonable and I was in the place for about 45 minutes.I will go back and I will recommend this place to others. I went here today, because I needed a little mental break from unpacking and waiting for cable dudes.  It was $30 for a manicure and pedicure, and while the decor is outdated to say the least (old Orly posters from the 80's, lots of Christmas cards, and Angel themed decorative items, which yes, goes with the name, but isn't my decoration items of choice) , the actual end result is good.  Also, they didn't seem to be any sort of air conditioning, which isn't so nice when it's muggy and July.  On the upside of things, they got the job done, and I am callous and hang nail free, my cuticles look nice, and I got the read a trashy magazine and get taken care of for a few minutes.  It seemed that the two people working there were the owners, and were very professional and were very efficient as well.....if you've ever had a bad manicure and pedicure, it often takes much longer than necessary.  This place is two blocks from my new home, and might just be my new nail joint.  While not fancy, it was very effective.
