My husband scheduled a spa day for an anniversary gift here in Feb. My facial & massage were very nice, but he scheduled my salon visit with a master stylist for highlights. The salon visit was not very nice. He paid more for a master stylist, but I found out that means you don’t have the full attention of the stylist for your whole experience. He put me with his young assistant for most of it. And he had her wash my hair ... before... highlighting. That is a no no. Who does highlights on wet hair? I’ve been getting them done all of my life and never once have they wet my hair first. I asked him why and he said he’s training his assistant. What?! Really? doing highlights on wet hair encourages bleeding of the bleach. Which there was some bleeding of the bleach in some areas near the scalp on the sides. Thank god it was mostly underneath. Also, his assistant did not rinse the conditioner out of my hair before he worked on it, and then after he painted the bleach on with foils, and they were rinsed, she did not even use conditioner! I don’t appreciate any of this. I will not be using a master stylist .... if..... I ever return here for my hair. I want the full attention of my educated stylist the entire time. Not a shampoo girl assistant. What makes me upset is he even tried to play it off like he knew what he was doing and that he always does highlights on wet hair. Read Less

I have been going here since I was pregnant with my first. I had the most difficulty find a place that would take me every 3 weeks and they did with no problem. I have been going ever since and the staff is really great. I have the same massage therapist since the day i was going and she always asks how the little ones are doing. Nail review only.I had Kat do a regular mani and it is probably the best mani ever.  I got it Thursday night and Tuesday it is still 100% perfect (I usually chip my nail on day 2).  It is about twice the price I usually pay in boston ($12 vs $25).One other downside: My appt was at 8:15pm and I got there at 8:00 (i had no problem waiting since i was the one that was early) but the reception said someone would be right out which I interpret as out in the next 5 mins and I sat there for 20 mins until 8:20.... I've been going to interlocks for something like 5 - 6 years now. My routine is to come in every 1 - 2 months for a dry cut, and as such my interaction with anyone at the salon besides my stylist is super minimal. With their new online booking -- even more so. That said, Sherise is amazing! I have ultra thick hair that I get pretty fed up with, don't like to spend time maintaining my hair, and I have an allergy to nearly all shampoo and product. Despite all of that against h...er - she has come up with the best, low maintenance, no-product needed cuts for me to work with (currently an undercut that works super well with my thick hair to look nicely layered down and shows off the shaved sides when up). I know my hair situation is difficult, but she always meets it as a fun new challenge rather than as an issue. I don't know what I'd do without her, and wish her continued success. I LOVE coming here for my facials! I see Sharon who is literally a miracle worker when it comes to making your skin look and feel it's best! I have been seeing Sharon regularly for about a year and my skin has NEVER looked this good. I knew from my first appointment with her she knew what she what she was doing- she took one look at my face and knew exactly what facial I needed. She doesn't push products on you, but if your interested she can suggest the right products for your skin and can educate you on how to use them properly. I travel about 40 minutes to get here and have many places closer to me that are top notch, but if you're like me and have difficult skin, when you find something that works and works amazingly for you, you don't switch it up! I had my first facial at Interlocks and I have to say I could not be happier. It was an amazing experience and a very welcoming, yet professional salon. The esthetician who did my facial, Lauren, was absolutely amazing. I did not know much about my skin let alone how to care for it and she went above and beyond to help me. I have been going to Interlocks for over 7 years for all hair and nail services. I think the hair stylists and nail technicians are excellent. What I can't handle is the front desk staff. I called to make an appointment today (unsuccessfully) for the last time after being hung up on 3 times. Reviewing poor service in hopes Interlocks will improve it. The mani/peds have become sub par.  This is supposed to be the "good" place in town, where you're supposed to be able to get quality. It was far from it.  The place is nice, we all know that. The people are nice. This is not even about prices. The manicures were both done so fast, with little work done to shape and clean up my cuticles -- which is the problem I go for... The polish that's supposed to last for 7-10 days both times was chipped within 24 hours (on a few not all nails but within 2-3 days most were chipped to the point they looked awful). I had a pedicure as well - and while the people were nice, I was surprised how inexperienced they were and how little they did. I left with calluses even after I asked her to be sure to smooth the problem areas (again, why I go). A few years ago I went here for these and it was far better. Read Less

Nice Salon but very pricey!! I don't feel if a stylist can't get you to the proper color you should pay $25 for a toner and $35 for a Blow Dry that wasn't sectioned and my hair was in my eyes most of the blow dry. By the time I got home my blow dry did not stay.. I booked a Balyage and ended up getting a partial foil without the use of foils...sections were taken just like a foil and placed on a board and the bleached applied and not feathered out at the root area so that it had nice blending. I asked for no copper and left looking quite warm... Exactly what I didn't want.I want over impressed for the price. It's a shame because it was a pretty salon. Read Less

Vera saved my lashes, and she is an amazing master lash technician. I heard she was the best and she most definitely is! I came from another salon to get my lashes filled, the other salon had destroyed my lashes with excessive glue and extension glued to 3-6 lashes. Now this had caused eye problems like infected ingrown eyelash hairs: she recommended taking them off, scrubbing my lashes with baby oil to get the glue off. I did this and a few days later she put on an entire new set of volume lashes which look better than any other ones I've had. So I got the devacut done today by David. Let me just say that I am only giving the salon 2 stars because the staff there were so nice and David taught me how to use the devacurl products he used on me. However, getting the devacut I thought it was going to be more exciting or more educating about curls. When he came to my chair he asked me what I was getting done which I was hoping he already knew but no. Oh well, it wasn't a big deal. He asked me if I wanted the cut dry or wet. From the videos I've seen and read about the devacut it says that they cut your curls dry because that's what they're trained to do. So that kind of turned me off. It was my first time getting the devacut done so I had no idea how the whole process was going to be done. I also told him it was my first time but I don't think he was paying attention because when he was going to wash my hair he asked me if it was my first time. So he asked me if I cared about length and I said no, I just wanted more volume on the top of my hair because it's always flat. I love fros but I don't think he understood that. So he cut a bunch of pieces which gave the sides of my hair more volume but not much on the top. So he asked me if I wanted the styling of the devacut and I said yes which is what I chose in the appointment. But anyway, he washed my hair with the amazing products and put the gel in. I asked him about one of the new devacurl products and it seemed like he didn't even know about it because I want to know better ways to style my curly hair. So he put me under a light to somewhat dry it and then said he would diffuse it. He diffused my hair and he's like how's that? I told him that it had less volume than I came in. So he tried again but with my head down instead and it gave me slightly more volume but I was just so over it because he didn't know how to style my curly hair like I wanted so when he was "done" I said it was fine. At the end he showed me the products in the front because I'm looking to buy them. (I bought a devacurl kit online instead) I'm easily influenced to buy things but he wasn't trying so I didn't even bother thinking about buying it. I paid and left. I felt my hair in my car and it was still damp which I didn't like either. Last thing is that the only devacurl things he used was the shampoo, conditioner and gel. I was hoping that he would've used the devacurl diffuser and microfiber towels but he didn't. I'm so bummed honestly about my first devacut. Read Less

I can't help but wonder if the negative reviews are from owners of other salons, because I have been going to Interlocks for about 15 years for a weekly manicure and monthly pedicure. The receptionists are always attentive, friendly, and helpful. My services are always expertly done, complete with friendly conversation! I see either Sharon W. or Catherine A. for my manicures and pedicures. Both have always done an excellent job. Sharon G. does my brows, and they always look perfect. Kelly S. cuts my hair and has always done an exceptional cut. The facility is always clean and nicely decorated. The owner and her managers are very professional people and see to it that all is running smoothly. I would never go anywhere else.Read Less

Had a consultation with David I had ombré and wanted to go fully blonde. He said he would put a single process high lift blonde color on my very dark brown roots. Is he serious?! That would turn my hair orange. So I suggested he simply foil everything. He huffed and puffed and said "You know that will cost more, right?" Even if it wasn't sitting there in my nice work clothes, he has no right to suggest I cannot afford a hair color. He is arrogant and rude. I will never return. I don't care how long he's been doing hair, he needs to treat his clients with respect. He acted like he was a lead stylist on Newbury street, not a small suburban salon. One star for the amazing haircut I received from Holly a few weeks back. I was so impressed, I scheduled to have my hair touched up this afternoon before I left for vacation. Tara handled the color. I walked out today with the opposite of what I asked for. In fact, I would have been happier with the end result of what a bottle of clariol would have done over how my hair looks right now.When I went back in they offered to "maybe" fix it today, but they don't give refunds. I am out caring for my mother over the summer in NH.  I was searching for a hair salon that uses Wella Color Touch and found many options in Newburyport.  I chose Interlocks based on their education and depth of offerings.  I was NOT disappointed.  I left looking awesome (as I witnessed everyone leaving looked great.)  This salon is so good I wish it had a location in DC where I live.  Request, David.  The bomb:)P.S.  I stopped at the grocery store on my way home and got two "double looks" from the opposite sex.  Yeah, I looked great!  Coming back soon.... I've had multiple services from Laura including waxing, microdermabrasion, and PCA peel.  She's great.  Punctual, attentive, knowledgeable, skilled, and fun to chat with.  I highly recommend Laura.My only ding on the business is their lack of flexibility with their discounted offers.  Last Christmas, I bought myself a series for a discount.  Having done the PCA peels before, I thought that was what I was buying, but as it turned out, I was getting a series of microdermabrasions.  The difference in price was not a lot, but Interlock wouldn't put that money towards an exchange for a series of peels instead.  I would of paid the difference.  I didn't like the microderm as much as the peels so to me, it became a double disappointment.  The spa should be slightly more customer oriented. Situations like that make people who are spending hundreds, not tens of dollars, with a business to go find another, with a more flexible policy. Read Less

My bridesmaids gave me a gift certificate to Interlocks for my bridal shower.  I decided to use it for a full foil a week before my wedding. I asked for a master stylist and got Vicki who did my hair. She was very nice, made sure to do a good towel dry since i had no time to blow dry and wasnt overly talkative as i really wanted to relax and read. When i went home and my hair started to dry i realized that i had a large line across the top of my head. I called first thing the next day and they fit me in to fix it. I was very thankful that they did this. But at $145 without a blow dry i really expected more. My roots were barely touched and made me look like i had gone weeks without foils and there are still a couple of random splotches of color and another weird line that i didnt notice at first to get fixed. For the price, i would definitely expect more. I wont be recommending Interlocks for color services. My pedicure was nice though! Read Less

Have had nice pedicures and manicures done here - I recommend these services.DO NOT DO WAXING HERE. The lady was rude, which made me uncomfortable. She didn't seem to really care much about making me comfortable while doing the bikini area - she was aggressive and did not do any pre or post moisturizing. Not to mention she also missed a few DOZEN hairs, and didn't even tweeze to get some out, so I had miscellaneous hairs I then needed to tweeze by myself at home! For $100, I expected better. I have been here twice and have had a blissful experience both times. The first time was for a massage - WONDURFUL- and the second time for a facial - BETTER THAN THE MASSAGE. The facial included the greatest massage I have ever received during a facial. I usually get 2 a year, so I've had a few. So I have been to Interlocks three times. I guess that maybe I expect something breathtaking after paying their "breathtaking" prices. On my first visit, I was greeted by a nice girl at the desk who led me into my "seasonal pedicure". Nothing special, I could have gotten the same pedicure or better somewhere else for half the money. Okay- onto the 15 minute manicure....need I say more? Next I was supposed to have my first facial ever. Since they screwed up booking my few hours, I had to sit out back in the "relaxation" room...how relaxing is it when your appointment is not timed right? Not to mention, all of the employees in & out of there, more of an employee break room that a "relaxtion" room. I do have to say that my facial was really relaxing with a nice 20 minute massage & the esthitician seemed to know what she was doing. Since I was running later than expected I decided to re-schedule my hair appointment (This was all a gift for mother's day).My haircut was okay, very average for what I paid for it. Again- could have gotten that done at a chain salon (which is where I met my current hairdresser who now comes to my house). My last trip was just recently and only made because I slacked a bit on booking my daughter's hair, my mother's hair & my hair & makeup for my Wedding Day. They were the only place available with coordinating appointments. I liked my hair but again thought it was average. My daughter's curls fell out as I was getting my makeup done...disappointing. My mother's hair came out nice but average. FIne- I could deal with that. What I could NOT take was the way my makeup came out. After seeing how "shiny" I look in all of my wedding photos I am VERY disappointed, it's not like I didn't tell the woman that today was my special day. All in all ~ don't spend the money here, not impressed...I wonder what was so much better in 2004 (they won best of boston in '04). Read Less
