I'll preface this review by saying that I haven't ever actually gotten my hair done here and sadly now I won't. I visit Edgartown every summer and am always looking to get blowouts fairly regularly. I admittedly called last minute on two occasions asking if there was any availability for either same day or the day after. Dorothy, who I'm assuming manages and or just works the front desk was beyond short and rude on the phone, acting appalled that I'd assume there were any open appts with such short notice, "especially in august". (Cue nose in the air emoji) Total turn off and I definitely won't ever call to book - in advance or same freakin' day! I went to Sea Spa Salon on 17 Winter Street in Edgartown. The whole experience was existential and I had the most confortable therapeutic massage from a madter masseusse in Thai massage. Exquisite. Decor was wonderful and I lived the convenience of being downtown close to where my party guests were rnjoying a great time. I highly recommend Sea Spa. Had my hair done this Spring. Was told that the stylist was really good with color. Long story short, she made the mess of my colored hair even worse. Not at all what I asked for. I had to call after the appointment and have her try and fix it a second time. This time around she was holding her little dog who actually threw up in my hair while she was looking at it. She also acted like I was an inconvenience in the first place. Im sorry, I spent $250 for nothing. I ended up leaving her a good tip and I'm not sure why. Waste of my time and money. Finally found a salon and stylist on island who knows what they're doing. Sorry, but messing up my hair is one thing, your little dog throwing up on me....ridiculous, unprofessional.Read Less

They did hair and makeup for my wedding. My hair and makeup were fine and definitely couldn't ruin my wedding day, but I would've gone somewhere else if I could do it again.First, my trial was a huge waste of time and money. I paid hundreds of dollars for less attention than I would've received if I'd been getting a blowdry during a haircut - there was a lot of "oh, on the wedding day I'd do this for real, but this is just to give you a sense." We had a whole conversation about how she loves poufs but knew I wouldn't want one because of my thick hair, and I confirmed that I did not want a pouf. She did the style I wanted, we took pictures, and then I left. On my wedding day, she was 20 minutes late without any communication. I should've shown her the pictures to remind her what we were doing, but I didn't realize it was necessary because my trial had been only weeks before and she had her own pictures. It wasn't until she'd fully finished with my hair and let me look that I realized the style was all different (including a pouf - what happened to our conversation?). It looked fine and definitely wasn't worth losing an hour on my wedding day to have her correct (especially when she'd talked the whole time about how she had another wedding right after), but I'm so annoyed that I went for a trial if it had absolutely no purpose except to take my money. She left in a rush without even doing makeup on my lips. My photographer had to correct some of my makeup because it was going to look bad on camera and my friends helped with some fixes, so it was fine in the end. Got a glycolic keratin treatment. My ends are completely fried days after, which the woman said would go away after my first wash, honestly it looks worse. I presume it was from her ripping a hair brush through my hair countless amounts of times. To insure that the massage would help and not negatively impact the situation, I received a ten minute sample massage with an appointment for 1 hr massage for the next day. Awful make-up- looked like I was wearing a foundation mask.Bad nails- it took almost 2 1/2 hours for a regular mani pedi and the tech complained about the colors I chose saying they were hard to use. Okay Hair- I got a blow out and it didn't last very long. Good facial- they didn't use steam to open my pores but it was still a pretty good facial.Great massage- Great spa services! I'm never one to leave reviews but feel like I have to. I went in to see Yvonne for a last minute gel manicure. There was no attention to detail and there is nail polish all over my cuticles. I've had many many gel manicures before and all of the nail technicians make sure the top edge of the nail polish is straight and even so it still looks good even when it starts to grow out. My nails look messy and will only look worse as the start to grow. I'm very bummed as Yvonne had gotten good reviews from others in Yelp, which is why I decided to go there.  It was the most I've paid for a gel manicure and i did not get my money's worth. Read Less

ok so i made an appointment online to have my hair cut... showed up an it wasn't in their system! I had a very special event the following day.....My sons high school graduation......The receptionist was very apologetic and scheduled me for 10 am the following day. worried about time i asked how long my haircut would take, "45 min an hour tops" ok that works...... Next day i showed up for my appointment with Temissha Lee, told her i had my sons graduation and she started at 10:03 i told her exactly how i wanted my hair and she acknowledged every request. i wanted 2-3 inches off, long layers, side part, angled into my face and a thin layer of long whispy bangs just in my eyes. i knew i was in trouble when she said ok there is  your bangs, I cut them just above your eyebrows so they wont be in your eyes!!!!   um even worse 2 inches above my eye brows! and my bangs went to the center of my head! not 1 layer in my hair,middle part, straight along my face not angled into my face,took at least 5 inches off and my hair is so thin i don't know how or what she did to it but completely ruined my nice thick natural blond hair! on top of it all there was no clock in sight so i finally get my phone out HOLY S#!T its 11:35!! so after an hour an a half, $80 , and the worst hair cut i have ever seen I wouldn't even stop at the store on the way home so no one would see me! Was first told the stylist "doesn't use buzzers" then after I said I really just need a trim they simply said "we dont do men's hair". I've gotten many shellac manicures but none as meticulous or beautiful as the one I got here. I saw Janelle (sp?) and she was fun to talk to and was super observant- she paid close attention to all steps instead of just trying to get it done and get me out of there. I was pleasantly surprised by the price as well! They have the best selection of gel colors on island, probably about 100 polishes in comparison to the usual 20. I recently came here as part of a bridal party, and even though everyone was super accommodating and friendly, my manicure could have been much much much better. It seemed like the lady who was doing my nails had zero clue what she was doing. I told her I wanted them to be slightly rounded but square. She shaped my first hand well so I stopped paying as close attention, and then she botched my second hand. They were pointy and shorter than my other hand so by the time had made them square, my nails were two different lengths. AND she never went back to adjust the first hand. At that point, I didn't even care. Again, while painting, she looked like a 5 year old. Unfortunately, the majority of my group also felt very unhappy with the quality of the manicure. Ok let me start by saying that everyone there was extremely friendly which is why I am giving 2 stars but that's where it stopped. My Mani and Pedi looked as if it were done by my 10 year cousin. I didn't notice all the flaws until sometime that evening. You can literally see every coat that was added. She had to redo one toe 3 times because the cotton between each toe was not apploed properly. And to top it off it was $85. I was expecting to pay a little more $50 - $65 but I thought that was crazy. In fact if my nails had come out great I wouldn't have felt so bad about spending the money.They basically have just random people in there doing nails, I don't think they people have had any training. If you're looking for a salon that listens to what you want and delivers - this is NOT your place.I came in for a wedding makeup trial.  I specifically asked for something slightly more than what I normally wear (which is very little).  Throughout the process, I reiterated that it shouldn't be too heavy. The end result was me looking like a Bratz doll*.  After allowing her to try again, it was better - but then again, a blind person with a push broom can apply mascara more subtly.  Perhaps the worst part was after I told the proprietor that I wasn't happy with the makeup, that I was anxiety ridden from the experience - they said basically, "I'm sorry you're not happy - please pay us the full $125 you owe us."  Now, I understand that my appointment took up their time and supplies, and they should be compensated for that - but there was a true lack of customer service and consideration.  It was as if they knew I wouldn't use them for the wedding so they might as well charge me as much as they can now.  My suggestion: if you are looking for someone to do your makeup for the wedding - don't waste your money here.* ( flickr.com/photos/rainbo… ) Read Less

I recommend Sea Spa, hands down, if you want professional treatment in a relaxed atmosphere. I put myself in their hands completely for a cut and a color, two techniques you should never skimp on, and I am so happy. With barely any guidance except to not go too blonde or too short, they gave me the perfect haircut and ombre hair (I have black hair, so got a glaze from root to bottom and the edges were about three amazing shades for light brown!)
