I've been going to Vici Hair Studio for four years now and each time is great. The atmosphere is professional and welcoming, and everyone who works there is very nice. I get my haircut by Chelsea - she does an amazing job every time but no matter who does your hair I promise it will be a great experience! They also have great hair products there as well. I love this hair salon. Just off the top of my head, here are three reasons why. One - it is conveniently located in downtown Amherst. Two - the mood in the shop is always positive and uplifting. My daughters and I were new clients at Vici for bridal make-up and hair earlier this month. I hesitate to dim the stars on this, but then again it's all about the quality of service. The hairstylists do a decent job with cut, but coloring I am afraid is a different story. I went here a number of times to receive simple black coloring to cover my premature grey. Some times they do a good job and charge around fifty. Other times, like today, they painted the side of my head black way beyond the reach of my natural hair. And the hairstylist asked me to rub it off with alcohol on my way. Outrageous, I thought, but went along. She charged me $75 plus tip. As I write this review, I am afraid the paint has yet to come off. Read Less

Came in super excited for a coloring. I'd heard amazing things about this salon and had no doubt I'd get great service! And I did customer service wise; everyone was super nice and pleasant and the salon is beautiful. Unfortunately my hair coloring came out very badly. I tried it out for a few days and decided it should not look like that and called to have it fixed. Again everyone was super pleasant and nice about fixing it for me. June 2015 Wedding Review:- Positives: the hair and make-up on wedding day for me and bridesmaids turned out beautifully (my make-up and hair was done by Kate, the owner).- Negatives: my first hair trial was not good (hairdresser only sort of listened to what I wanted, didn't bother looking much at the updo pictures I'd collected on Pinterest, then at the end asked if I wanted to do a second trial... so she could not do what I wanted again?); I was supposed to have a make-up trial at the same time but it got canceled at the last minute (I wasn't even told until after my hair was done, make-up artist's car broke down); I got a second hair trial and make-up trial, but had to be rescheduled when they realized a week before that the make-up artist was actually already booked that day (second trial hair was complimentary, and in fairness everything went much better and Kate was very attentive to everything I was looking for); fees associated with make up and hair were not well communicated.I wanted to give this salon a chance because they were local and I thought maybe the negative reviews were exaggerating, but I would not recommend this salon. I was in town for a Sunday wedding and looking for a salon that could accommodate my daughter and me for blow outs. I contacted Kate, the owner, about a month ahead of time and she offered to open the salon on Sunday for us to come in. She couldn't have been sweeter and did a fabulous job with both of our hair (my 6 yo daughter's curls lasted well into the night, even after an outdoor ceremony and lots of dance floor action). Do not go here for an eyebrow wax. The stylists have no familiarity nor consideration for taking the time to shape my eyebrows and made my left eyebrow noticeably much thinner than the other one and blamed it on the cooling gel which she did not evenly spread over. I was in Western Mass for a wedding this past weekend and 5 of us girls went here to get our hair done. I honestly don't know where to start. I was a bridesmaid.. and I could see the look on the bride's face when these women who work here started talking loudly about their personal lives to one another ACROSS the salon like we all weren't even there.. it was very unprofessional. The owner came in about an hour into our hair being done and shuffled around like she wished she was ANYWHERE else but there. Sat me down, and barely looked a the pictures I showed her for the updo I wanted. Something LOOSE, elegant. "Got it" she said as she turned me away from the mirror and went at it for an hour. Stabbing me with bobbypins and making my eyes water and then laughing about it (while still talking loudly about her personal life and how much she hates her father's girlfriend). She didn't let me look in the mirror until "she was finished". It was the worst updo I've ever had, it was slick and tight and brought me back to me prom from 2001.All in all, this salon needs to step up their professional level, especially on services done for weddings. The bride i was with was definitely frustrated because of the extra time spent with the lack of stylists there to get us done on time. If you are planning for an updo of any sort for a special occasion, plan to get done only what they know how to do... a low curled updo from 2001.I will never go back, and I will tell my friends and family from western MA to steer clear. I used to go to this place all the time when it was under different management.This week  I made an appointment with their online scheduler for the next day.  The next day I noticed that I hadn't received an email for the appointment confirmation so I tried calling the salon to confirm my appointment.  Nobody picked the phone up when I called all three times.  Optimistically I went for the appointment and the stylist who helped me said that there were no appointments made for my time and I must be mistaken.  I explained to her that I attempted calling all day and asked for a walk-in (considering the sign outside says "walk-ins ALWAYS welcome"  but she said they did not have any time available.  Frankly I would have expected her to at least offer me a speedy appointment for the next day but she just stood there and stared at me. Not originally being from the area, I had always been hesitant about getting my hair done in the area because I have always had extremely high standards for my hair. After taking advice from my best friend, I ventured to Vici and am so happy I did! I had the luxury of having Maria and my hair has never looked better. The color is absolutely flawless and i have been getting countless compliments for the past week. I've never left a bad review for a luxury service before, but I feel strongly that people should be warned about this salon. I scheduled a haircut and color on a Saturday afternoon in February of last year. I wanted to update my cut (was requesting a sleek bob, about 6" off) and cover some gray. Apparently, the receptionist did not schedule enough time for both, and there was a bit of a tiff between my stylist and she. That ended up rubbing off on how she treated me and my hair: the stylist barely said a word, offered no professional advice when I asked her about my cut, and worst of all, did a sloppy job on both the cut and the color. The layering was done unevenly, and the color missed a whole streak of gray, which was completely visible in my part. The stylist stomped around the whole time, shooting nasty looks at the receptionist and complaining to another staffer about how she was sooo inconvenienced. The worst part is, *I* felt bad and left her a good tip. It wasn't until I got home that I saw how poorly cut and colored I looked. Edited: The salon owner contacted me after having read this review and offered a gratis service of comparable value. Though I am unable to accept her offer due to having moved, I will amend my review to three stars because I believe that the owner would have helped me last year had she been made aware of the problem. I had been going to get my hair done by Maria well before she opened Vici (I'm talking back in the days of Northampton).  I was always thrilled with her work and creativity, meaning I was no longer victim to "hating" the initial haircut until it had time to grow out a bit.  When I heard that she opened her own salon, I was beyond happy for her.  I immediately booked her and the studio for my bridal party's hair and makeup.  When we walked in, everyone had their own stylist ready and waiting.  Maria and the ladies did an amazing job, and Maria did an awesome job with the make-up! Vici is truly like nothing else around! I recently moved back to this area and was desperately looking for a new hair stylist. I tried yelping and googling and eventually came across Vici Hair Studio and Beauty Bar. Their website was lovely and extremely user-friendly so i decided to give them a chance. I called on a friday afternoon and set up an appointment for later that evening, their later hours during the week are something i love because i work very long and weird hours at my job. I made an appointment with Amy Taupier and it was honestly a match made in hair heaven! Unbeknownst to me she had recently purchased a vehicle from one of the dealerships i work for and we instantly struck up a conversation. She was extremely personable and all of the staff i dealt with on that first visit and on subsequent visits have all been friendly, delightful and extremely helpful with any questions i had. I went in for an appointment yesterday and cut off a good amount of hair (i had been having issues with split ends) and i could not be happier with the outcome! Amy even gave me a free sample of morrocan oil since she knows i am on a quest to keep my hair in the healthiest condition right now since i had previously been a vicitim of overproccessing. I would recommend Vici to everyone (and i do) it is a modern salon with a high caliber of stylists that i would expect to see working in more metropolitan market, but i feel blessed to have found them and will not trust anyone else with my hair.
