I LOVE THIS SALON! I've been coming here for 5 years now and I can't see myself going anywhere else. They have an amazing pedicure station, and minimalistic manicure station that screams "less is more!" Relaxing, modern, and clean atmosphere. I found this shop on yelp and wanted to try it for the high reviews. It did not disappoint. Called the salon for directions. The person who answered the phone was warm and friendly. Arrived within 15 min. I was taken to the toe nail station for a pedicure. My assigned nail technician was Elijah. He was very professional. I was very happy with the end result. I am thoroughly impressed. I like to treat myself every now and then and have always been hesitant to get my nails done because I haven't had the best experience. That is, until I found Bang and Jen. Jen's work is PHENOMENAL. She takes her time shaping each nail and treats each one like a piece of art, and as anyone with almond or stiletto nails can tell you, it isn't easy finding someone that makes them straight and flatters your fingers. She's gentle, quick, nothing short of a perfectionist, and even though she is fast with the drill, she will NOT cut you. I haven't been able to experience Bang's nail art yet, however his polish job is nothing short of beautiful. Clean lines around my cuticles, my sides and tips are painted, no air bubbles or streaks in my polish in the very slightest. I got a chrome accent nail, and I am very pleased. I absolutely cannot wait to try out one of his famous designs next time. They are very laid back and down to earth. If you're the type to make conversation during your service, they're sure to talk to you if they notice that. If you're more of the sit back and relax type, they give you the time to relax. And as if their work isn't good enough, the ambiance in the salon itself is very fitting to their personalities. Although the shopping strip is shabby and lackluster outside, inside is anything but. It is extremely clean, glam, rather than cozy, and very posh. This isn't your grandma's nail shop. Very comparable to an experience you'd expect in the more bougie parts of NY and LA. Even though I came in on a Wednesday afternoon where salons are usually slower, I made an appointment anyway and I suggest you do too to ensure you get the most out of your service.As much as I'd love to keep these two my secret little gems, you got to support your small businesses. I'm a very picky person when it comes to nail salons. I recently started working in the area and have tried multiple salons around columbia. The only one I was pleased with was this one. They have ample nail color selections and the staff is extremely nice. Every time I go, there are always long time customers also getting their nails done, who the staff know by name. Just don't go, If I could give zero stars I would. The day before my appointment I called and asked for Jen, because I was getting acrylic tips I got Bang. Anyway, he was the guy that answered the phone, I told him I wanted the mirror nails and ROSE GOLD. I was very clear, he acted like he knew what I was talking about, so I took the appointment for the next day.  So, I go to my appointment and I show him a picture of actually what I wanted, no problem. (see picture of the color and style of nail below) Well since I was getting a manicure and pedicure. They started the pedicure, which is normal. Ok they are into the pedicure that's when I get you can't get that on your toes no gel or color. I say again, Rose Gold mirror effect for my nails. Yes, we can do, but all of a sudden clear English before turns into broken English. That's when I should have left, my fault, I was more concerned about the nails and had a special occasion to attend and was really looking forward to this style. Now back to my pedicure, the older lady was nice but she had my toe bleeding from the cut she gave me and painted over the blood with polish. Just SMH. Ok, the guy Bang or whatever, starts to do my nails, he putting chrome and layers etc. Not my lane of business so I let him do his thing. Oh, by the way he cuts me too, and I bleed. He finishes my nails and charges me $90.  It's raining outside and getting dark so the color is still drying. I get to my car and home and look at my toes and nails. The color is silver and my toe polish is a shimmering rose.  See picture below. I call the shop and tell them this is not what I asked and want to speak to the manager. I am told the manager only comes in on Sundays. But to come in they will correct.  Which is great. So, I go in for my nail do over. The guy now tells me they don't have the Rose Gold, I am heated because I have an event. Have paid you my hard-working money. In you should have said from the initial call that you did not do what I was asking for.  So he shows me other polish which if he would have been honest from the beginning I would have gotten. Ok back to technique so I asked him this is gel I have on my nails now. He says yes and no its has chrome as well. So he is using the nail tools, not my lane of expertise but he trying to fix the problem I think at the time. (So you see I trying to give credit someone where) See new nails. Ok , I go on my vacation, few days after . Pulling my hair up and a ponytail my nails get caught in my hair. The whole nail polish is now coming off my nails.  As you can see below all 10 painted nails polish came off like I had press on nails. Which I did not. Was a convenient spot, since I live a black away! I am new to town so had no references on a good nail place! I went in just for full and gel nail color change. After only a few days my nails had discoloration from straightening hair or From my clothes. Super unattractive and a waste of money! They don't do tips on card, which I felt really bad about, since I didn't have cash!  I also considered getting a pedicure but they don't have Comfy relaxing chairs. The staff was friendly though. I moved into the area not too long ago and I was in need of a new salon. I came across Crystal Nails by their Instagram account (bangnjen) and I was excited to finally find a salon that seemed to be up-to-date on the nail trends. I decided to give them a try and I've been going back ever since!The shop is clean, modern, and trendy. I appreciate that they take appointments and they also sanitize their tools. I personally request Amanda for my manicures and pedicures but they all do an amazing job. Bang's design work is really detailed and intricate. And Jen breezes through my eyebrow and upper lip wax. I'm usually done within an hour and a half.I go in for an appointment every 3-4 weeks. Although there is some growth (obviously), I don't have any chipping or cracks between each visit.The staff call me by my first name, remember the stories that I tell them, and I have good conversations with them. I found Crystal Nails on Yelp and was super pumped about the unique designs, embellishments, and wide array of polish colors I could see in reviewer photos. Those are all things that I enjoyed during my visits: Bang does amazing and intricate hand drawn design work some people thought was sticker decals in my office. They carry the newest colors, jewels and embellishments, chrome powder, matte polish, and whatever else is on trend. Jen does awesome nail shaping speedily but it does get a little confusing almost always having half your nail service done by Jen and half done by Bang no matter which of them you book your appointment with. You end up not being sure how to tip appropriately for one service completed by two people. Look at their IG page: BangNJen to see their stuff. I'm sure you'll love it.Genie C. made a point that kept me from making Crystal Nails my nail home though. The staff is not very warm and friendly. They're cordial but you won't get the bells and whistles of being offered water or tea or very bubbly and energetic conversation which works for my good girlfriend Bc she likes to be left alone while having her nails done but I prefer a little more friendly engagement. I almost get the impression they feel like they are doing me a huge favor during my services as opposed to being treated like I am paying premium pricing for their services which brings me to the next point Genie C. made...You won't find prices in writing in this salon which leads me to the impression that it varies based on what they feel like charging each person. I think the salon is decorated beautifully in a very contemporary and simplistic fashion so I understand not posting prices with any signage. Bliss Nail Salon of Odenton, which I now love doesn't have pricing on a sign in their beautiful salon either, however the nail techs let you know what services cost up front, provide you with a menu of services that have pricing listed, and give you itemized receipts when you pay with credit cards. During my last visit to Crystal Nails, I liked my chrome and jeweled nails but I didn't LOVE the way the jewels were placed kind of sloppily with huge clumps of glue on my nails that looked atrocious. The chrome costing faded and chipped a couple days later in addition to several nails cracking and being in need of repair within 3 days of having them done for the following pricing I found to be too much for nails that didn't look great within less than a week:Take off full set: $5New full gel set: $50Coffin shaping of full set: $5All nails Chrome coated: $25Jewels on 2 Nails: $5Total cost for nails that looked decent for a few days:-----------------------------------------------------$90 plus $12 tip for Bang doing half my service and Jen doing half my service after booking my appointment with Jen. $102 spent on my nails wasn't as much of an issue for me as having my nails look bad with lumps and bumps from the acrylic shaving Jen did, the glue clumps all over and around the jewels Bang did, and the cracks in the nails and chrome chipping I endured within a few days. It was a busy week for me so I had no time to go back to take these issues up with them but why should I have to after sitting there 2 hours for my service :/ In Summary, if you aren't looking for a lot of warm and bubbly smiley engagement and don't mind spending an undisclosed pretty high price point for some really hot design work and plentiful color and embellishment options in a salon that is decorated like it could be in NY or LA then check them out.
