Went every 2-3 weeks while I lived in Baltimore. Best place in Fells point to get my nails done. All the technicians there are great but Elsie was my favorite for manicures. Her shapes were always perfect no matter what I asked for and her regular manis always lasted me almost 2 weeks! I would wait no matter where I was traveling to and from to come back to her. Page started working there recently too and she is my go-to person for brazilian waxes. I was so happy to find she uses hard wax which was hard to find in that area. She is fast and efficient and always did a great job. Plus she is so sweet and professional I always looked forward to seeing her. And they offer wine while getting your services! Best salon ever. I always raved about this place but then within a short period time they have shown how unorganized they are. My mom came to visit me from Switzerland and we wanted to have a nice girl's day so we went to Athena's. My mom wanted a specific type of gel powder which they swore they had when we called. We scheduled our whole day around this and when we arrived, they had cancelled her appointment so naturally she was very angry. After some readjusting, they were able to fit her i...n.. Anyways, after that they actually didn't have the gel she wanted and it was very important for my mom to get that specific one. (A lot of the stuff we use here is not legal in Switzerland so it would have cost her an arm and a leg to get it taken off when she went back home. Plus, it's actually horrible for you but that's a different story.) She paid about $80 with her hands and toes done and not even 2 days later one of her nails broke. What a waste. Secondly, my friend's friend was there not too long ago and she got cellulitis because they used unsanitary tools. Again, this happened to one of my friend's friends but still, that is disgusting and there is no excuse for that. It is extremely dangerous and she has been in and out of the hospital since. Very clean and professional salon. I got a mani-pedi without an appointment and was in and out in an hour. They have a large selection of colors, especially for gel, and it was totally affordable. They even offer wine! Read Less

Elsie is my girl! I've been going to Athena for the past five years, almost every two weeks for gel manicure. Elsie is my artist who not only does nails but other things like waxing. We made reservations for 3 on a Saturday afternoon.  We arrived promptly for our appointment but were still left waiting for at least 15 minutes before anyone performed any services.  We definitely had our feet soaking for longer than we should have - they lady had to top up my soak with hot water because the water had gone cold.  All of our services were scattered so some of us finished before the others.  Knowing that we were a party of 3, they made us all sit in different tables when we got our manicures.  Kind of takes the fun out of doing things together.  The girl who did my nails was not very friendly.  We barely talked and she disappeared for 10 minutes after my pedicure without letting me know why or where she was going.  The manicure and pedicure turned out okay.  I'd consider other options before returning.  They do have parking across the storefront in the lot, but note, there are only 8 spots. I want to give Athena Nails a great review, but after the last two times I've been there I can't. In all honesty I am completely livid. I called over a week ago to make an appointment to get a mani and pedi with my regular girl. During the phone call to make this appointment, I had a long conversation with the individual who booked my appointment. I told her I needed to be done by 5pm, and wanted SNS. She told me if that was the case, I needed to be there by 3pm. I informed... her that was fine and the appointment was booked. The reason I was on this time constraint is because I have one of the most important formals of my law school career tonight. When I arrived, the front desk informed me that my girl wasn't there and they didn't know if she would ever be back. They also informed me that I wasn't on the books. Thus, I didn't get a call so I could make other arrangements. I would like to say this is the first time this has happened, but it isn't. I honestly was depending on Athena Nails today. I was depending on them on a night I really needed them, and they failed. The work [some of] their staff do is amazing, but their inability to book and keep appointments is lacking, and their lack of remedy when issues arise falls short. Horrible Experience. I walked in to the spa to get my hair done for my maternity photos after I heard great reviews regarding their upstairs hair salon. I requested for a blow out and was informed the hair staff was on vacation. As I turned to leave, the store owner informed me that she had a nail tech that works up stairs often and can do my hair in 10 minutes. After 35 mins of waiting, Courtney comes and leads me upstairs to a cold work area. She was very nice and a great person thrown into a bad situation. She washed my hair and then the nightmare really begins. I watched her walk around the salon checking every single drawer for a comb, a brush, some clips, and a flat iron. This salon had no back up tools and the hair stylists took their equipment with them. I watch poor Courtney attempt to use a pen to clip my hair up in order to blow dry. I watched as she found 1 roll brush and removed the weave hair of the main stylist from the round brush to attempt to blow dry my hair. I watched her attempt to flat iron my hair with a CURLING IRON. After she pulled out a rusty curling iron and plugged it in to flat iron my hair I realized I had enough. I was charged $25 for this and the store owner was not available to talk with. MY MATERNITY PHOTOS WERE RUINED!!! This store was so set on getting a couple of $ that they chose to place this sweet girl Courtney in a really bad position and I feel absolutely bad for her as a stylist as this was not her fault. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to take place just to make a couple of extra $. I will let everyone in Canton and Fells Point know not to ever visit a place like this. 11/26/16: I've been here 2x now and remain impressed.  As I've stated in previous nail salon ratings, I don't really require a whole lot (i feel) from a nail salon experience.  I really just want cleanliness, a basic grasp of english, and no obvious resentment of your customers requests.  The Athenians have this plus so much more.  Every time I've ventured in, no matter how busy (and they seem to be quite busy), I am met with smiles, not a "what you want", or a straight up "pick a color".  No matter how long you wait, someone will come over and offer you some water or another beverage (nice touch).  They have lots of comfy massage chairs, clean pedicure bowls, the instruments come out of a sterilizer, and the nail techs are meticulous at their jobs.  Oh, and the prices are reasonable too!  Bring cash for tips (they don't have a tip line on credit card purchases).
