I have visited this Salon twice in two years. The second time was today which I was hoping would be a better experience. The one area this salon could really improve on is communicating better with their customers. I've been surprised both times at the check-out counter by unexpected charges. The first time it was with about $100 worth of up-charges beyond what I came in for and wasn't informed would be extra. Today, it was beverage charges. Such a friendly staff and laid back environment while remaining profession. I have always struggled with thin, sparse eyebrows. I’m not one to wear a lot of makeup, but I knew my brows shaped my entire face, and despite every effort with pencils and powders, I never seemed pleased with the results. This review is for a shellac manicure, not hair services: I received a shellac manicure here (by Angelina? I think her name was) and was not happy at all. After tip I paid $65 (service was $55), and had I not tipped before the service, I wouldn't have given 20%. To begin with, she did not treat my cuticles at all- no trimming, no pushing them back, no shaping, nothing at all. So I was left pushing back my own cuticles after a $65 manicure with dry flakes around my nails that desperately needed attended to. Then, since she was 20 minutes late I assume, she rushed through the application and did the standard 3 coats; however, since the color was a very light pink, it was super streaky and obviously needed thick coats of polish since you could see spots where my natural nail color darkened through the polish, so I was left staring at the streaky polish for a week. Which brings me to the manicure lifting after only 4 days. I know some people are more prone to lifting because of their nail beds, but I used to get shellac manis from a girl back home that never lifted and lasted almost 4 weeks because of her tedious attention to the nail bed before applying the polish, so I believe this was due to her rushed application. She also didn't listen to me at all about the nail length either. I showed her which of my nails I liked the length on and wanted the rest to be uniform with; her response was "okay so keep the length". No, make all of my nails match this index finger's length. "Okay so we're keeping the length". As a result of her not listening to me explain 3 different ways that I wanted the nails on my left hand to match my right, she just straightened the nail edge but the lengths on each of my hands were still different, which was super annoying. During our limited conversation, she told me how annoying it was when people bring her pictures of nail art they wanted, and said they "weren't one of those cheap salons". I had pictures on my phone and deleted them because I didn't think I would write a review, but after being so unhappy about my first manicure in a year being so lack-luster, I decided to post one. Had I not gotten my nails done for a vacation and been out of town, I would have gone back and ask that they be fixed. I get my hair done here as well and my stylist Jessica B does an amazing job, so I thought I would branch out to the other services, but I will not be making that expensive mistake again. Read Less

Of course, I was incredibly nervous as it pertained to the pain, but I'd researched my technician's work for months, and I knew had had chosen the best! After major over-plucking in the early 2000’s, I was left with short, skinny brows. About two years ago, I began filling them in using pretty expensive products. I hated doing my brows. My family hated hearing about how much I hated my brows. My brows were seriously the bain of my existence! I hadn’t yet heard of the mircoblading procedure, when a friend posted on Facebook about her amazing results and experience with Jessica Yniguez at J. Michael’s. After a little research,... I booked a consultation with Jessica – and upon leaving the salon that day, I made the trusting decision to go for it. Jessica did my brows in early October, and it has been a total life-changer. As an on-the-go Mom, I can now leave the house at the drop of a hat. I don’t have to worry about my brows if I go swimming or if I get caught in the rain. I don’t have to worry about my baby rubbing up against my face and smudging my brows, or be cautious when putting a white shirt on over my head. If I have an itch on my brow bone, I can actually scratch it (yes, these were daily issues for me!) I could go on and on about how microblading has improved my quality of life…as superficial as it may sound, having Jessica do my brows is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself. The procedure actually ends up being very cost-efficient, as I am no longer throwing down $$ every month at Sephora on pricey brow products. So I was absolutely impressed and in love with Jessica Yniguez. I went to a reputable salon 2 weeks earlier for a color correction, my hair was ashy green blonde with a slight root pill through, all I wanted was my hair back blonde. Having been to hair school I knew some basics and was totally screwed by the time I hit the shampoo bowl. My hair was not only brown but RUSTY and falling out. Not only that but my haircut was 2 different lengths shelved down my back. I went to an...other salon two days later for a color correction on the first correction. The ombré turned out okay, but half my hair was gone, the first wash it turned to brass. I decided i was going to bleach what I could (idiotically), I stayed up all night after seeing the horror show on my head, that would've never happened if I hadn't initially went to the first salon. Sunday turned to Monday and I was in tears, I called J Michaels as soon as they opened and prayed they could fix it. The consultation with Jessica was open, honest, I even signed a waiver which I found very professional. The price was also given to me up front which I respected. My hair was dark brown, orange, blonde, purple and magenta... had to have been the toughest color correction to maybe EVER walk in. Jessica Y. Spent three hours applying and foiling my hair, never stopped for a break and held conversation the whole time which was so awesome, it felt personal. It took around 4.5 hours and after she washed me and took me to the chair to dry I KNEW the color was absolute perfection. She dried me and tapered the bulk, barely lost any length and I was happier than I've ever been. It was the end to the worst hair horror story of my entire life. The staff of this saloon do not treat the people nicely who are from different religion and culture. They did discrimination with me. The owners of the Saloon do not know what is the meaning of " Ethics". I think, they need proper training and skills to run a saloon professionally. They do cheating with the customer's money by offering a gift card. They are extremely ill-mannered ! Moreover, they have time management issues as they run always late. Very friendly staff! But here is the thing; the person turned my hair purple or some kind of blue color and he is acting natural like everything is fine. People around looking at me because such an ugly hair color, so his coworkers definitely knew something was wrong. In the end I haves to pay $202 for something very different then I asked in the very beginning which was ash blond color. Plus! Lovely space and some sweet staff. I paid $200 for lash extensions plus another $50 for a deposit, they were lovely and the technician did a fantastic job -- would highly recommend her. However, it sort of went downhill from there; I had an allergic reaction (eyes red and irritated, then swelling shut) to the glue and when I called for assistance I was told they didn't have an appointment for a couple of days -- and if I'm honest, the individual's tone on the phone made me feel like I had done something wrong by calling about the allergic reaction. I ended up at immediate care with a weeks worth of steroids and eye drops and a $350 bill plus I was then out the $50 for the deposit. :( Rather unfortunate, and certainly not their fault I had that reaction, but do feel better assistance could have been provided. The building is in a great location and the front of the house staff are always accommodating and courteous. Very clean building and nicely styled. Let it be said that this is the first time I have ever posted a Yelp review and I feel my experience with J Michael warrants coming out of stealth mode.I came to J Michael for about a year while I lived in Louisville and saw Britney as my stylist. My first visit, I cut my hair from long layers to a shorter "lob" type cut. She asked many questions and the cut was perfect. Britney is extremely personable and friendly. The shampoo is great! The salon itself is updated and clean.Unfortunately, I had to move to MD for work and have since been through FIVE hair stylists in a year and a half!! I called today to see if I could book an appointment with Britney during a work trip back and was explaining my sob story to the owner, Jill. To make my sob story even sobbier, it looked like Britney's schedule did not match mine while I was in town so I booked with another stylist.SHOCKINGLY, I received a voice mail from Jill a few hours later letting me know that Britney was going to stay late on Tuesday to accommodate me! I booked myself and my bridesmaids their hair and make up appointments for my wedding :) I walked in, and they had a BEAUTIFUL spread set up for us -- coffee, teas, bagels, muffins, cheese, crackers and grapes.
