Stopped in to have my nails done for my wedding this weekend and brought my mom and my maid of honor. We didn't have an appointment but they got us right in! I love this place! Super happy with my nails. Kevin did them and he was really nice and helpful. The only downside is the color of my nails isn't the color that I had wanted-- it's a few shades darker. I think that happened because the numbers by the gel polish are fading on some of them. They're still really pretty, though. It's just more 'Barbie' than I had wanted. I'm sure if I told him that he would've fixed it, but, honestly not a huge deal to me. Stumbled upon this place while waiting for my coffee. I decided to get a mani here and the service is exceptional.  They didn't push me to get gel nails as I was in a hurry and just needed a clean up and some fresh polish. I went to Highland Nails today to get a manicure and was pleasantly surprised. The lady doing my nails was very nice and friendly and apologized for my wait. They were very busy today! This is my first visit to Louisville to see my daughter, who is a recent transplant from Oregon. We always used to get pedis together and we wanted a place close to her house. We lucked out! We  both got the sea salt pedi, and they took their time with the massages, definitely didn't skimp on them. It's nice to have a place like this so close to her home. Read Less

The most painful pedicure I've ever had. The woman was actually filing my TOES along with the nails. When I pulled my foot away and said ouch she pulled it back and kept filing! I tried telling her it was hurting but she would look at me and smile. I'm not sure if she understood me. Nail polish started peeling in less than a week. I will not be back.Read Less

For my first review, I willingly gave Kevin 5 stars. As a result, I continued to be a loyal client for 3 to 4 months. After my first visit, however, I began to notice minute details that I didn't like about my nails. Due to Kevin being such a phenomenal nail tech, these errors did not stop me from returning to the salon. I absolutely loved that I could make an appointment with Kevin, however, it defeats the purpose if I still have to wait a long time in order for my services to be provided. At times, my "appointment" would not begin until an hour after the original agreement. This professionalism, or lack thereof, is deplorable. Today when I walked in for my appointment that was scheduled at 7, I observed that Kevin had already started on another client. Because of this, he asked if another tech could do my nails. The other tech seemed to be in a rush while doing my nails, although Kevin agreed that 7 was a time that was most convenient for the salon. My nails feel as though they resemble a mountain -- steep and craggy. Simply put, they are the epitome of the exact opposite of what my nails are supposed to look like. The acrylic, along with my nail color of choice, are uncontrollably spilling onto my skin. Lastly, every nail has a different shape. In conclusion, although this salon is highly rated and extremely close to my house, I will no longer attend due to their poor time management skills, differentiated qualities between nail techs, and inability to improve when given constructive criticism. I decided to try a new nail salon, and I'm so thankful I did! They appeared to be very busy when I first walked in, but I was taken care of after a very short wait. Kevin and Vince were wonderful. I am a nail snob. I've only had private women doing my nails most of my life because I take such pride in them. My last stylist and I had a scheduling conflict and I needed to get them done. Man. I must say that Kevin is phenomenal. He took a great pride in making sure everything was as it should be. When I was down visiting Louisville, Bao (Kevin) gave me the best shellack I ever had. The color  was even, and it never chipped... and it lasted for almost 4 weeks.  Tam then meticulously gave me a pedicure. Both were kind, personable conversationalists and consummate professionals. I am new to the area and was in search of a sanitary, professional but friendly and down to earth salon atmosphere and upon discovering Highland my search has ended. The owner is very personable and makes you feel at home, and so far the staff has been professional and I love the mani/pedi's. I received a mediocre manicure and a heavy dose of unprofessional flirting from the guy who did my nails when I went in to highland nails. When I find the time in my schedule to actually get a manicure I do not expect to have to fend off advances. Instead, I hope for a calm, clean experience and a good job. I am not saying they did a bad job, but they did not do a fabulous job, and the bad taste left in my mouth by the nail tech is the sole reason for this singular star. He who would not stop commenting on my looks, and actually said to me, "you don't have any children, I can tell, you're very skinny." That is an insult to mothers and women in general. Not impressed. I went here on a recommendation of a co-worker but the high prices and sub-par gel manicure assures I won't be returning anytime soon. I got my nails done (gel manicure and regular pedicure) and within the next five days the gel was peeling off when I was told it will last for two weeks. There were also portions of the nail where the polish wasn't applied well showing lighter streaks on my manicure. My total was $60 (not including tip) to essentially have painted nails for five days. The pedicure was fine, just regular nail polish and standard pedicure protocol nothing really extraordinary there. I'm thinking I'm no longer getting pedicures since I can do everything any other nail salon I've been to can do. I will however keep trying to find a salon that has a gel manicure that can hold up over a week. Read Less

Every time I go to a different state I always get my nails or feet done but being the first time I've been to Kentucky I'd say this experience was best by far!! I've visited Highland Nails 3 times. Each time I am met with a great employees. I have gotten both a pedicure and a manicure from here. One of the nicest thing is that the people who work here are down to earth. They are willing to talk if you want, or let you relax in peace too. The prices are very reasonable. I made an appointment for a gel mani-pedi and brow waxing. They were ready for me when I got there. My nail technician, Linda, was super friendly and did a great job. Price wise, it's about normal: a gel mani + pedi is $60, waxing was $10. I had my doubts after reading some reviews for the place but decided to give it a shot since its so close to my place. Some reviews mentioned sanitary issues, the place now sterilizes all of their nail instruments. I saw Linda go to the machine and get the instruments out. I will definitely be back! Read Less

Everytime I go in here I have a picture of what I want and I ask if they can accomplish what I want before I decide to get my service here. For example one time I just wanted a black shellac manicure with a matte top coat no shine.. nothing crazy. We get done with the whole service and as it's top coat time I ask again you know I want a matte finish please. He says that's not possible shellac only comes in shiny... I am a licensed cosmetologist that still works in the industr...y and has for 7 years I know there is a matte top coat that exists even though he swears up and down there is no such thing. So if you didn't have it why did you say you could do something when you could not? Okay anyway. I decided to come back again give it another try. Had a picture of a black and red ombre polish and I wanted shellac. He tells me he cannot so this in shellac he can do tips (this is not 1992 I want a fade not tips) so I say okay well I'll look around.. he says no other place in town can do this its not possible.. I'm just ready to get my nails done at this point so I decided to just get black nails again with a spider Web on 2 nails for Halloween. Needless to say the tech couldn't do a spider Web after agreeing to do so.. I'm like just leave them black it's okay.. she yells at me and gets the owner to come do my spider web.. it looks like crap. Ok so I've been loyal to this salon for awhile well about two weeks ago I went in for fill in during that time I got nail fungus I went in today to let them know and have my nails removed until the fungus grow off my nails thinking that since I got the fungus from them they'll not charge me I got pedi/mani at the end I was still charged $65 for both I couldn't believe it I told them I'm very upset that I got the nail fungus from someone not using clean instruments and yet was charged full price!! I think that staff is friendly but the paint job did not look like it was done by an experienced professional. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't perfect. And for $30 gel manicure, it should be perfect.Moving on to the ambiance. It looks new, fresh paint, modern furniture and fixtures but they cluttered it up by hanging hideous pleather handbags from the wall candle holders. There is a slightly less hideous cheap shoe/wallet display in the corner. There are little TVs hanging on the wall that pass the time. I didn't make it back to the pedi area so I cannot report on that.If I lived in the area I might go back but would still keep my options open on a place that does more solid work. Read Less
