Before I start ranting, I would like to start with some background for anyone that can relate to my conundrum...I am a military spouse currently stationed at Fort Riley and my husband and I are natives of New York City. My mother is Hispanic and my father is African-American, enabling me to have mixed hair. That being said, coming to Kansas, I've realized that my type of hair isn't something normally seen, as Platinum & Co is the third salon to fail at straightening my hair. So as any concerned person would after 2 failed attempts (once on Ft. Riley at the P/X Salon and Hair Experts on Anderson in Manhattan), I came to see APRIL for a consultation. I told her what happened at the last 2 salons and advised she feel my hair to see if it would pose a problem. As several people have told me in the past, she said my hair was very soft to the touch. My hair isn't course as it can easily be combed when wet, however it is very tightly curled and far past my shoulders. I felt she expected to feel much courser hair and insisted that it be no problem. So I proceed to schedule an appointment. April spoke with me on October 8th and scheduled my appointment for NOVEMBER 2ND. Livid yet still cordial, I insisted she find me another appointment as I would appreciate it be done before Halloween, she said there were no openings a whole month out and put me on a call list in case there were any cancellations. A week before my appointment, I became restless and called to see if they forgot about me. I was placed on hold for 11 minutes and told that there was an opening for the NEXT DAY with WHITNEY, I wasn't thrilled about it being someone other than April but after 3 weeks of waiting I had no choice. So I show up and WHITNEY is everything I would love in a best friend. But, her expertise in hair, as well as the entire establishments expertise, is far from accomplished. I gave clear and concise instructions on how my hair should be dealt with to make everyone's lives easier and her response was alarming. She said that her, as well as the rest of the staff, received their licenses after being trained to ONLY TO USE THEIR FINGERS WHILE BLOWING OUT HAIR, I really thought she as joking until I witnessed her discomfort holding a brush in one hand and a blow dryer in the other! I asked her if she had a small round brush to help her feel more comfortable and she didn't even have one. She only used the blow dryer to literally DRY IT after washing it, then proceeded to try and tame the frizzy semi-dry mess with a flat iron. So I said, "the blower is usually used to do majority of the straightening to my hair (with a brush!) and the flat iron is usually used to finalize my ends". She did not understand how that was possible and did the exact opposite, resulting in her needing to detangle it while using the flat iron for an necessarily painful, time consuming, an rather pointless experience. After she said she was done, I informed her that I would still need to touch it up when I get home and was just appreciative that it was somewhat straight. (And that's my reasoning for 2 stars.)Would you think a dissatisfied customer would be charged full price? Probably not. At the consultation, I was told blowouts start at $19. I obviously knew I wasn't going to be priced at the starting range, however I didn't expect to head to the front desk to pay and be told I was charged for TWO blowouts because of how long it took for a grand total of $62. I payed without further inquiry (I was just that fed up) and left. As I was driving back to post, I thought about my awful experience and realized that I was just robbed of much more of my time than my money. I have lived in NYC for over 20 years, started getting my hair professionally done at the age of 9, and in the most expensive city in the US I realized...I have NEVER been charged more than $40 for my hair IN MY LIFE.I called and asked to speak to the owner when I got home and LINDSAY took the call. I appreciated the gesture of sending a $30 Off Coupon to my house, however, all that coupon does for me is ensure that I'm not charged for 2 BLOWOUTS on my ONE HEAD for ONLY the next visit. I'm really sorry ladies but I cannot call you experts, the world is too big for that title. Read Less
