I went in for a free haircut and dye, I went in for the haircut that was in February and they told me that the hair dye was going to have to be in April because the hairdresser had more schooling. They said that they would give me a call to set up an appointment when it gets closer to April. Well that was a flat lie they never called me and when I went in to set the appointment they told me that part of their training was over and their not doing that now. I understand that it was all free and I shouldn’t complain buts it’s the principle behind the fact. They are not good for their word. I am new to the area and was looking for a good hairstylist. The service here was fantastic, staff were all very friendly. I showed my hairdresser what I wanted/ was looking for and she did a wonderful job! Color & cut was perfect! Especially loved the option of a neck/shoulder massage or a hand massage. My haircut was perfect, my hair color was perfect, as usual. All the stylists are wonderful and they constantly upgrade their training. I have lived in Manhattan for 48 years and have tried nearly every salon in town. None of the others can touch Gaia for quality and caring, expert service. My hair is superfine and I am 70, so it is difficult to cut and style. Gaia is the only salon that has made my hair look great every time. When I have to travel out of state, I am always disappointed. I love the neck massages with essential oils and the warm towels and the beautiful results. Two reviews complained about the prices. Well, Gaia is more than worth every penny. I am not a wealthy person, but nice looking hair is crucial to me. Gaia gives me that and more every time. I recommend this salon to everyone. Read Less

So I went to get my hair done today after looking at the reviews and not being from around here I thought this would be the place for me that would not screw my hair up.. I let the girl know that I wanted a long angled bob and that I need to be able to put my hair in a bun for work. Needless to say my hair got chopped off and looks terrible and I can barely put it in a pony tail much less a bun. I have never been so unhappy about a haircut in my entire life. I can't say enough good things about this place. I was a little traumatized by other salon experiences I have had in the past but I decided to give this place a shot and I'm so glad I did. They were able to fit me in that same day I called, which is always a huge plus. My stylist was Lance and he was just amazing! He really listened to what I wanted and I could tell that we were both on the same page when it came to my hair. He cut my hair dry, then toned it, then cut it again while it was wet, then he blew it out and even curled it for me! I heard this place was pricey which made me nervous but the cost of everything was very very reasonable! I have such thick hair and I'm used to stylists being overwhelmed by it and rushing or being sloppy when working on me. It really meant a lot to me to have an experience where the stylist took their time and made sure that I was happy and that everything was perfect. I don't think I will ever go anywhere else! This place is awesome.  I'm from Boston, so 1) my expectations are super high and 2) if this place was awful I would be brutally honest.  I called on a whim last Monday morning to get a trim and they fit me in right away later that afternoon with Lance.  The place was easy to find (right across from Harry's), trendy and clean.  They offered me water while I waited.  I filled out a quick page of information and within minutes Lance took me to his station.  He was totally awesome! He asked me questions about my hair, what I liked/wanted from my hair and then went through three different options for my hair.  He listened and seemed really knowledgeable, so I went with his suggestions on the cut and style.  Ever since moving to Kansas, my hair has been horrendously frizzy, so he used moisturizing products on my hair and recommended a shampoo/conditioner/product combo that would keep my hair tamed in what seems like year-round humidity in this state. He showed me how to use the products and style my hair at home with them.  To top it all off, the hair cut itself was legit like $35!! I was expecting double that! So when he showed me the price for all of the products he used, I literally bought all of them haha.  My hair looked (and felt) amazing, I felt gorgeous and I can recreate everything at home with what I bought.  I will 100% be coming back...with friends! Well, that was disappointing. Couldn't even get an appointment. The girl on the phone was not very friendly or even acting like she wanted my business and was mumbling half the time. I was looking for a cut and color. I work two jobs and only have two evenings off a week. She couldn't get me in the next day (Wednesday) which I was fine with, short notice. I asked about Friday (three days out), she said nothing was available. Wanted me to come in at 9:30am. I work from 8am-5pm. Told her that wouldn't work. Then wanted me to come in at 6pm. I told her I didn't want to hang around town that long after work (again, I work a full time and part time job, both in Manhattan and I live in JC). That's when the conversation pretty much stopped. She didn't even offer me anything for the following week. I understand that I have limited availability, and for that reason, I do not mind having to wait a week or two to get an appointment that fits my schedule, but nothing was even offered to me. It seemed like when she asked me if I had ever used boxed color on my hair, which I replied that I hadn't in over two and a half years, that's when her voice became hesitant and she put me on hold for a few minutes. My daughter and I always get our style when ever we go out of state mostly in Ca and Las Vegas. I tried Salons here in JC and Manhattan but I always go home disappointed. I only get my trims and style from Rachel Whitelock but she is leaving soon.  So I am back for a salon hunt after going down my long list of X salon finally I got a spot at Gaia and found my stylish Krystal/Crystal, her name suits her she is a hidden gem lol. The best salon around Junction and Manhattan. They have the best costumer service same level as the Metro Salon. They listen to what you want to do, give you advises, took time to know what treatment  suits your hair type and took their time to style your hair... Every penny is worth it.. I am so happy now I don't need to wait for months to get my haircut... Kristal really did a fantastic job not just cutting my hair right but also a good over all satisfaction.. For my 700th review I will bestow this excitement on Gaia.  I had the random good fortune of sitting next to owner Mary on a tiny plane between MHK and Dallas and explained to her my woes of flying from MHK to Vegas to see my aesthetician.  She suggested I give her aesthetician a try when I was ready.  After a year of going to Vegas back and forth (to see my husband, not my aesthetician haha), he finally moved here and I knew my trips to Vegas could not be only for beauty purposes.  I called the salon to learn about what types of wax were utilized and got a lot of information (there is a sensitive skin wax and a soy-based non-wax product).  I took the chance and made an appointment with Hannah.  She is truly excellent and makes me feel very comfortable.  I am now a regular client and thankfully got the blessing from my Vegas aesthetician so I do not feel like I am cheating on her.  I recommend Gaia for waxing though don't take all of Hannah's appointments or I won't get in! Scheduled a consultation appointment two weeks ago and about 10 minutes before my appointment was called to be told my stylist was running late. Got to the salon and the stylist still wasn't there and was put with a different stylist. She talked with me for maybe 5 minutes and I still had to pay $25 for that "consultation". Not only was it the most fun I've ever had at a hair salon but I've never had hair that I loved so much, it came out better than I even imagined. Danielle also clarified for me a great deal of hair care tips with which I had struggled for years, which was totally not her responsibility but so kind and helpful. We just moved to Manhattan, so this was my first trip to Gaia. I had been neglecting my way-too-long hair for far too long. Crystal gave me an awesome cut, taking off over 10" of length! Just had my hair highlighted and cut yesterday, and I have to say that I am beyond satisfied! Penny was my stylist and she did an amazing job. She was quick and very thorough. I've never been more pleased with my hair. I got my eyebrows done the day before and was a tiny bit disappointed, but penny more than made up for it! I went to Gaia during three of my four years spent at K-State. While the salon is a bit pricey, I think the service and quality of work make the amount reasonable. Penny was my designer and she rocked! She kept track of what she had done to my hair in the past and was a pleasure to be around. There were multiple times that I just let her just do what she thought would look best for my hair, and I always left loving my style. The scalp massage to start the appointment was great, and the receptionists were friendly and offered me a beverage (try the tea, it's delicious!). I moved away after college and am struggling to find a salon I love as much as I loved Gaia. I'm thinking of making an appointment soon and making the two-hour trip to Manhattan because they are just. that. good. I highly recommend this salon! Read Less

I work at a well-known salon in San Marino, California so I have high expectations when I go into salons for a visit. So, let me start by saying that I had an AWESOME visit. Not only that but I had just flown in from Los Angeles an hour before and these girls were the first few people I interacted with. The front desk coordinators were a pleasure and Erin my stylist was super knowledgeable and a pleasure to meet.I was in town for a ball and Erin helped me figure out what I wanted in an updo. She took her time before we started. During my service she told me about cool places to go after the ball which I found extremely helpful because I was outside of my normal sunny California enviroment. I grew to love the midwest and all the cool things to do out here.Being that it was my first visit they game me $15 off because I was new. I'm about to leave for a trip overseas where I plan on keeping my hair up for a while.   (ponytail)  I had just wanted my natural color added to my hair so that the grow out wouldn't look as rough.I was informed that I would need to make an appointment for a 30 minute consult to speak about my hair, what I want, what styles would look good on me and prices for all of these things.I know what I want- and it does not require a 30 minute explanation.  My time is valuable and I'm trying to pack and finish school work- not drive across town in order to waste 30 minutes of time in order to make a future appointment. I was then told that I could schedule the cut and 30 minute consultation for the same time.In what world does that make sense?  THAT alone leads me to believe that the hair stylists don't know what they are doing since you cut your hair AFTER you color it... not before.While I may not have a beauty school degree I have been going to high end salons for years in the Washington DC area, Chicago area and NYC.  I have never, ever been informed that I should cut my hair and then dye it- nor did any of those salons require that I make two separate appointments.  I will not give my business to this salon.  30 minutes to discuss my hair feels like you need someone to hold your hand through the process- it's unprofessional and makes it appear as if your establishment has either had issues in the past with colors coming out incorrectly or that your staff is not knowledgeable enough to know how to mix color without having to speak about it at length. Awful. I went in to get my hair ombré styled last fall and it didn't come out at ALL the way I wanted it to. The stylist attempted to do my hair twice since I called back and said it wasnt what I wanted and it still didn't work. Too expensive for a salon who can't even get current trends right. I started going to Gaia salon at the beginning of 2007, my stylist of choice is Crystal.  She's wonderful, talented, skilled, friendly.  Going to Gaia is a wonderful experience.  If you haven't been before try it out.  Their staff is dedicated to making you feel spectacular!The salon is great; everything you want and expect from a place you go to to make yourself feel beautiful. I haven't had any luck finding another stylist even at other Aveda Salons, I think that I will strategically schedule my haircuts on weekends I can go to Manhattan, Kansas. Read Less

Went in for the balance treatment - a chair massage that helps you unwind. Also had my nails done by Stevi with shellac - AMAZING stuff! I'm such a huge fan now. Got them done on a Saturday morning before moving and three days later, not a scratch!  Still glossy and looking great! Definitely worth the extra price. I went about a week ago to get my eyebrows waxed and the girl did a hideous job! She left them uneven, with hair still left behind in areas that should have been cleaned, gave me a bald spot, No arch, and the whole thing is terrible. I am so un-happy with the outcome. I HAD a great brow that needed a little cleaning up to do and decided to try a "professional" waxing service and in return received a very UGLY brow serviceII didn't expect her to do so terrible or else i would have plucked them myself. Expensive 17$ for a trashy "final product". Its a very nice chic place, very clean and relaxing and i must say i adore the aveda product but the work was very untrained!I wish I could say different since its in a nice location and the store is beautiful Read Less
