You should probably choose more carefully who you hire in the salon. My girl just got her hair done there for the first time, her hair is literally snapping off. Not to mention, the girl who colored her hair realized she over processed color on my friends hair and proceeds to cut it doing a terrible job. She asked for a v cut, but instead got “3” layers, big holes cut on the both sides of her hair, and half to and inch uneven all the way around I mean what the hell!?? The only way you guys will fix her hair is if the same girl that screwed it up does it again? You guys are nuts. She may not even have hair if she colors it again. Seriously people... Scheduled a hair appointment with Jackie because she is one of their most experienced hair stylists and I wanted someone who knew what they were doing. When I arrived, my appointment had been switched to a new employee with no experience. They didn't explain or apologize for changing who my stylist would be. And the woman didn't introduce herself so at first I thought she was Jackie. I quickly figured out she was not. I think they switched me because I had never been to Jackie and they thought I wouldn't notice that they gave me to the new girl instead. Thanks for the bait and switch Beauty Brands. I made an appointment at Beauty Brands for a blowout. The girl I had scheduled with was running behind, so we got started 15 minutes later than my scheduled appointment time. That normally wouldn't bother me except I had to be some place right after. I told her that and she said that the blowout would only take 20 minutes. I said, Really? Because the last one I got took about an hour. She said, No no it doesn't take that long at all. Now I see why her blow outs don't take long... she doesn't do anything. I could have gotten more volume doing it myself at home. She complained about how tangly my hair was which I felt was off beat considering she was the one who had just washed it and put product in it. She also did not ask how I wanted my hair styled (curled, straight, beachy waves) and she definitely didn't round brush dry correctly. Basically I wasted my money for someone to do something I could have easily done better (and trust me, I'm not great at blow outs which is why I scheduled for one in the first place). Sami is AMAZING! I have been going to her for approximately 3 years. It was a fluke that I got her...I went in on a color correct and she was the only one available. I really like the Beauty Brands services. I've had one haircut, a few eyebrow waxes, Shellac and two pedis since moving here. I have a facial scheduled for next week because I was given a 20% off a service you've never done coupon. The ladies are so nice and do a good job. I'm not a chatty person while having stuff done and they respect that. I don't buy their products because I have a manicurist license in MO so I go to the professionals only store for the same products they sell. Since most can't shop there a Beauty Brands sale is a really good deal. Since I'm a manicurist I know the horrors that can happen with a pedi and I feel totally comfortable with a Beauty Brands service. Read Less

Called in the morning for a same-day appointment.  I liked the stylist and particularly liked that it didn't feel rushed.  At another salon, the stylist was informed she had a client waiting for her after me, and the service felt rushed.  It also took a couple weeks to book an appointment.  Anyway, this was easy to schedule, reasonably priced ($39 for a master stylist, don't know about other services and I didn't choose the stylist -- I just called for an appointment), and gave me exactly the haircut I wanted. However, management is poor and does not do simple things to keep 5 year + customers coming back. I do not patronize businesses that do not appreciate my patronage so I have found a new salon. I grew up in Lawrence but live in Chicago now, and came back recently to see my family. I decided to get  a haircut at Beauty Brands because a regular old run-of-the-mill haircut in Chicago runs me $60-80 and Beauty Brands offered a cut for $32. Steal! I was assigned Christina (Chris) for my cut. I was REALLY pleasantly surprised to find that she was fantastic! She gave me a great cut; better than I've received in Chicago, and I've visited numerous salons and paid top dollar. She was careful to keep my length (which is really important to me) and did exactly what I asked for. For $32 at Beauty Brands I got a great cut and had a really pleasant experience. I love this store. The ladies know me when I get there and are always keeping me up to date on the latest thing so I can always look my best.  I followed my stylist there when she got hired and I was hesitant at first...but I would rather shave my head than go to anyone else...BUT I love this place.  These ladies go above and beyond and totally respect my business.But now my favorite stylist, Chrissie Johnson, has moved to her own salon! Store:  I have a strange love for nail polish..meaning, I cant buy enough of it.  Their selection is great, pricing is ..eh..moderate for the product.  Their nail accessory selection tho..EXPENSIVE.  $17 for speed dry nail stuff.  yea dont think so! Their hair product selection is great and pricing is pretty accurate.  THEIR STAFF...well...lets just say the sales girls I have encountered should keep their voices down when talking about customers and other associates!  This includes the salon personnel as well.  They are chatty cats as I call it.  They talk about customers while they are standing right there!  This is why I didnt give them more stars.  Salon:  I called and wanted an apt ASAP seeing as I live less then 5 mins away.  The girl said they didnt have anything for 2 hours.  I arrive for my apt and literally 5 stylists were sitting at the reception desk!!!  There was only 1 other customer while I was there..I was thinking...YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!  MY stylist, Danni..was nice and competent at her job but I really hate it when they leave you sitting there for your color to set, ALONE.  They go back and gab it up with each other...why dont you talk to your customer so shes not sitting there by herself!?!  She also didn't tell me the products she used, which is too bad bc I would have bought them.  They definitely need more training on customer service. Love this place....Vic does the best job in color and cut and Tiffany does wonderful manicures. I have had the best facials also but dont remember who I used for that service. I have never had such great service. The ONLY problem with this shop is their coffee!! When going to a "spa" I do expect some decent coffee and real cream or coffee mate, not powered stuff. Looks like I'm the only person who isn't going to give Beauty Brands five stars so far. After my experience, though, I can hardly be blamed.I used to get my haircuts at the Beauty Brands in Olathe, and I have always had great experiences. I went into this location two nights ago expecting the same and was sorely disappointed. I asked my stylist, Betsy, to add in some layers and get rid of my split ends. At the time I went in, my hair was down to the middle of my back.Betsy was very fun to talk to--very gregarious and friendly. The layering looked really good, and I was pretty pleased with the cut. But then she asked if I wanted her to even up my bangs. I agreed, and she started pulling more hair forward to add volume to my bangs. I had my glasses off while she was cutting, and I can barely see without them, so I really had no idea just how far she was going. By the time she was done, literally almost fifty percent of my hair was bangs. I looked like half of a Paul McCartney, and it was not a good thing. I told her I didn't like it, and she advised me to go home, see if I could make it work for a couple of days, and if I hated it to come back and she would fix it for free. When I asked her what "fixing it" would mean, she replied that it would probably have to be a pixie cut.I left the salon and trudged to my bus stop, crushed over my hair disaster. It took me about three seconds to start crying, and only slightly longer to make up my mind to turn around, go back in, and have it fixed right away.After waiting through a previously-scheduled appointment, which took about forty-five minutes, Betsy sat me back down and proceeded to cut off all my hair, giving me the shortest style I've ever had. It's now about two inches at the longest places.The only reason this isn't getting one star is that Betsy was extremely apologetic and refunded all my money, and she really did do a great job on the pixie cut. If that'd been what I went in to get, I probably could give this four or five stars, but cute or not, this is not the cut I wanted. I lost two years of patience and hair growth in about five minutes.
