Never again. Came in on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant wasn’t too busy but was informed by the server (who was really nice) that the kitchen was running slow and would it would take 20-25 minutes for our food to come out (note there was only two of us) and we were okay with that. An hour and 15 minutes (and no food) later our server came up and told us our food had been sent to another table and the kitchen had to re-do our order. While this isn’t the first time we’ve experienced slow food service here it will definitely be the last after this experience. Which is a shame as we often come here for happy hours. Read Less

I had a business meeting here with two potential clients. The food was good (Thai pizza and artichoke dip), the drinks were average/good {old fashioned) and the waitresses was very pleasant. Service was a bit slow up front, took about 5 minutes for our waitress to arrive but I think there was some confusion as to whose section we were in. I recently came here after a less than desirable experience and the managers and staff went above and beyond. The manager asked us to give them another try and they nailed it. It was almost too good to be true. Drinks were top notch and the food came out almost immediately. Total turn around. It’s very rare that I have a waiter that seems as if they are psychic (anticipating your every need). Based on my last experience , they are I came here recently with my girl for late night dinning. There is a drink that we get that has whiskey and oranges it tastes amazing. We ordered calamari and burgers. I have never left Bar Louie unhappy! My friends and I usually go during their Happy Hour for the $5.50 martinis and half price (select) appetizers. Tuesday's are also a good time to hit them up because of their $5 burgers. It can be hard to find parking close by and to find an actual table on most nights, so a lot of times we end up at the bar (which is fun because they make your drinks right in front of you for you to see). Even though it can be crazy busy, the staff is working their butts off and still providing amazing service! It's like making a new friend every time I go there! They are on top of making sure you have everything you need, that your food is tasting good, and that you never run out of your drink. Even when going with a group of 10 people, we didn't wait for than a few minutes before our drinks were out, and the food came in less than 15 minutes. They offer patio seating with the doors rolled up so it never gets too hot or stuffy throughout the restaurant. Bar Louie offers a Saturday and Sunday brunch with $10 bottomless mimosas. I have yet to be disappointed by Bar Louie. My last two Birthdays I've enjoyed a dinner celebration here and they always make you feel welcome even when some guests show up late. I've also grown fond of watching the World Series at Bar Louie as well. I can honestly say they have the best and most respectful staff I've ever met. The first time I ordered the Loaded Tots I didn't realize they came with Jalapeño peppers. My waiter was more than understanding and he quickly took it back and had them remake it without me asking. Nothing but good things to say about this place, awesome atmosphere, lots of seating, lots of parking, and definitely some really friendly service. But the best thing about Bar Louie has to be their half-off appetizers past 10pm during the week. One of the main problems with west Des Moines is the lack of decent restaurants open past 9 PM and beyond cheap fast food their literally is nothing open late. bar Louie definitely fills in at this role to perfection with a great appetizer menu. Their wings being in that half-off deal is too good of a deal, and their spinach artichoke dip is the best in the city (although one recommendation I have is to offer pita with it instead of chips). Popping place for good ole HH drinks!! Tonight, we waltzed  in at 6 and had to make a beeline for the 1st dirty table just to secure some real estate. So busy that you're bound to see somebody that you know. HH is offered till 7 pm, M-F. $3.50 drafts, $5.50 signature martinis and $4.50 glasses of wine. If you need some grub to soak up the adult beverages, they offer 1/2 off select appetizers.Service was friendly and team work is the name of the game. Our cocktail server took our drink orders and they were presented by a drink runner. Way to go for not letting our drinks "die" at the bar. Went here for happy hour/a basketball game with my friends. We ended up with horrible service at the bar and they had quite possibly the worst mule's I've ever had in my life. The appetizers were mediocre at best, but I guess that is what I should have expected at a chain bar. I've been able to enjoy several Happy Hours at Bar Louie throughout the last year.  Last night I met a friend at 6:00.  When we arrived, the place was packed.  We quickly realized that $5 burger night on Tuesday night is quite popular! Parking was scarce and so were seats.  A server was at the door attempting to let everyone know how many parties were waiting for tables ahead of them, but that didn't stop some customers from just stalking tables as customers were leaving and taking the seats first.  We found 2 stools at the bar, and the server did stop by later to see if we wanted to move to a table - that was nice.It took about 10 minutes for a bartender to provide us a drink, but then she was attentive and provided good service.  The food that I've ordered here has always been good. My friend and I split a roasted veggie flatbread pizza and it was a great add to our drinks.  Overall, you can't beat the happy hour prices - I had 2 beers and half of the flatbread pizza for only $10.41.  Oddly, I paid a server $15 for my $10.41 bill and got $2.50 back.  She seemed in a hurry and just rounded up?  I've never had that happen before.A good visit, but I'll likely avoid busy Tuesday nights in the future. Good drinks, food, and service. Our most recent visit was on a cold and snowy Saturday night so they weren't as packed as they'd usually be at 7 PM. We live pretty close by so we've been here quite a few times and everything has been consistently good.On our recent visit my wife had the BBQ Ranch Salad. It was a pretty good selection of greens with an assortment of veggies, topped with some very good onion strings. I had the Voodoo sandwich - a great combination of blackened chicken, andouille sausage, peppers, and onions, with a lot of pepper jack cheese - I pretty much ate it open faced since the slippery veggies made it tough to keep together in the bun. You also get the choice of fries or tots included with a sandwich, and that's a nice option.They have a good selection of wine and beers, and a wide selection of specialty drinks. They have a great happy hour Mon-Fri 4-7 that packs in the after work crowd.On previous visits we've had burgers, flatbreads, other entrees and appetizers -all of which have been consistently good. So, if you're doing some shopping & you've had enough of the people at the mall, come to this place. Sit down. Relax. And have a cocktail. Martinis are one of their main choices for cocktails and trust me they are delicious.You'll find very good food with tasty burgers here. Try coming on the day they do $5 burgers and add a nice cocktail to go with it. I'd also recommend either the dumplings or the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer. It's a classy atmosphere where you seat yourself and I usually go for one of their more intimate cozy booths. They do have high table options which some may also prefer. There's also seating all around the bar area with plenty of TVs to watch. The staff is friendly enough and always grabs your order quickly. I did try a fruity cocktail the last time I visited. It had berries and mint leaves with vodka. It was alright. It would have been really nice if the glass wasn't filled 1/2 of the way with different berry types that would get stuck in the straw or in your teeth. And it was overpowered by sugar, which I should have known when it had the word "fruit" in the title. I've also tried the New Old Fashioned cocktail and WOW! I applaud the bartender for this fantastic drink. It was a very smooth sip for an $8.50 price. All in all, a nice place with a great burger and plenty of seating. And you'll usually find a family coming in from shopping, a business group having lunch, a couple on a date, or a group of friends catching up. I absolutely love this location! The service is so much better than what I experienced in Denver. All the servers and bartenders are friendly and prompt, and the food doesn't take too long. Great place to hang out with friends and enjoy some good food and drinks (though drinks are pricey). Patio section is a bit small but they usually have the garage doors open so people sitting inside can also enjoy the nice weather and breeze.  Tuesdays are $5 burger nights which are a fantastic deal.  The kitchen stays open late (till they close) too. My friends and I came out here to celebrate one of our friends birthday. It was not a very busy night, just the right amount of people. I like the food and atmosphere over all and have been here a couple of times for happy hour apps and drinks. This time though I was very unhappy with our waitress. For it not being a very busy night, she was a very slow and forgetful girl. It made our experience quite unpleasant as I don't like asking for everything multiple times. Every food item and drinks, I had to refresh the girls memory or go get it myself. Aside from service, the apps are pretty yummy and the drinks are not to shabby. We ordered some wings and mini sliders. I did not like the orange mule (I think that is what it's called) but that is just my preference. That being said my better half read about the BAVARIAN PRETZEL STICKS in a Juice (RIP) magazine article and wanted to try them. On a recent Saturday morning before a grocery trip to nearby Trader Joe's we stopped in to Bar Louie. It cracks me up that Des Moines or West Des Moines folks always want UPSCALE. This is not upscale when you have patrons wearing sports dork attire (jersey tshirts, baseball hats indoors and basketball shorts). Anyways, on with the review...We were seated in a high table near the restroom with a view of the nearby Jordan Creek Mall. Our waitress was a pro. Folksy enough but still with an edge of "don't fawk with me". She took our drink order and forgot my coffee. I passed on the coffee when I reminded her since Trader Joe's has that shit for free. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel Sticks (per menu: Louie's signature app with cinnamon butter, queso, honey mustard) $8.95. I ordered the Beef Brisket Sliders $11.75, she the Chicken Parm Sliders $10.25.The pretzel sticks are the shit. Four large yeasty warm sticks with three dipping sauces. My ranking of the sauces: queso, cinnamon butter, honey mustard. The honey mustard had an acidity that got old after a few bites. The cinnamon butter reminded me of Texas Roadhouse. The queso was melty and savory. I recommend this appetizer.Our sliders arrived not long after the pretzels. The presentation was nice (see photo). Large amount of well seasoned fries. My Beef Brisket Sliders were disappointing. (Sliced beef brisket, peach moonshine barbecue sauce, pickles,topped with grilled pear slaw). They meat tasted like convenience store black pepper beef jerky that had been rehydrated. The sauce, pickles and slaw all got lost in the pepper flavor. The buttered buns where nice. My girlfriend's chicken parm sliders were MUCH better than my entree. She was nice enough to share one. They were like a food truck take on Italian. This is hands down my favorite bar that serves food.  There are plenty of bars I enjoy that are fun places to drink, but this place offers amazing food as well.  Their burgers are some of the best in town, their loaded tots are the best I have ever ate in my life, and their boneless chicken wings are so good that my picky azzz girlfriend said it was the only boneless wings she has ever liked.  All of their appetizers are really good and they have daily happy hours and specials.  Every time I have been there the service is excellent.  If you are at all not 100% satisfied with your food they offer to pay or give free vouchers for next time.  Atmosphere is classy and modern but very welcoming.  Perfect for a date or a group gathering.  This is one of my favorite bars in town.  I always leave with a smile and keep wanting to come back for more.  And did I mention their loaded tots?  Omg, cheesy and baconny goodness!
