Literally one of the worst manicures I’ve ever gotten. Waited 45 mins which was fine cause I understand it’s Friday and they were busy, but then was moved around to three different stations throughout when it was finally my turn (one of which was a pedicure chair and I was not getting a pedicure). Then my nails were filed completely uneven even though I asked them if they could even them out more two times, and they were really rough when doing my cuticles. Also the lady doing my nails kept switching back and forth between me and two other customers. It took me two hours to get a regular manicure, and they were painted super streaky. I wish I would have read the other bad reviews before spending almost $20 on a manicure which I then took the polish off of myself when I got home. Don’t waste your time or money here. Read Less

All of my nails are very crooked, terrible customer service, I told the lady how long I wanted them and she went to show me and I said no I wanted them longer and she just went ahead and cut them short anyway and didn't listen to me at all! I've only been here for lash services but I have loved them every time V has done my lash extensions. She takes her time on them as every lash tech should. I have never had glue clumping or where you can visibly see the glue clumping with her. They are in a busy location and it isnt a huge place so unless you want them to rush on you in efforts to get people in and out, expect to wait a little. Everyone is nice and polite to me but I am also nice and polite to them. My face doesn't feel the same without V's lashes. Read Less

I see the bad reviews but I don't believe them. This little place was great. A true family run business with great service and caring proprietors.I arrived with no appointment but was fitted in after a short (about 10 minutes) wait. Which I think is great with no appointment.The woman who owns the business works there with her husband, mother or mother-in-law (not sure which), among others. She also had her small very well behaved son there quietly playing. The place just felt homey and warm.She did a great job with my pedicure and a clean job with the polish. It was relaxing and affordable. Definitely my kind of place. The have a wide selection of nail polishes, though I brought my own and they were happy to oblige. So I'm disgruntled. And unimpressed.I went here because Candy Nails was on holiday. I had one good manicure here over the summer. Not so today!!! For one, it took them FOREVER to do the dip powder. Which, it usually does because it's dip powder; I'm used to the process. But it took them like an HOUR to get my old powder off (45 min at least). I'm like ok. Learning curve. Maybe the next part will go smoothly. NOPE. They went to cut and file my nails. My original artist was doing fine, but another of the stylists stepped in. She went at it and SLICED my pinky. Like ok yo. They did at least put something on it directly after, but I wasn't told if it was disinfectant, oil or what. Ok. No big. Prolly should have left there but as I am, I'm kind of a sucker and thought the worst had happened. Maybe the second lady was just overzealous. NOPE. My original artist did the SAME THING ON THE OTHER PINKY!! Another drop of mystery liquid. Ok. So now the worst has happened right?? My original stylist goes to do the dip powder and she DIPS BOTH PINKIES in the powder!! I even stopped her and was like that's really cross contamination. You can totally brush that on, I won't mind. She says, "oh no this is organic. Good for your nails!" Which is absolutely not what cross contamination is about. I asked not to pay, and settled for a discount (I did stay anyway. I'm partially at fault). But when I explained my issue with the cross contamination (because that's not just my safety, that's everyone), she reiterated the line about it being "natural" and having oils and whatnot. Ugh. I called her out in that too like "blood, dude," and she just responded with "oh" as though she kind of knew the excuse was shady.They clearly don't know what their competitors are up to; Candy Nails in old cap might fuck with the texture or whatnot, but I always feel physically safe, and it's never done in more than and hour and a half. They wear gloves,  are efficient, and I've never been in pain, in fear of an infection, etc.Stay away from these peeps!!! Read Less

First time coming here and I was reeeeally hoping it would be good.... HELL NO. I can't even believe I tipped the girl who did my nails. It looks like a two year old did them. Nail polish all over my fingers.. didn't even bother to get it off. Not to mention the aggression and forcefulness they used with my fingers. I told her it hurt multiple times and she continued on and didn't care. They care about doing your nails fast and getting you out the door, not about what you want and actually giving you a good nail experience. I'm never coming back here again, it was a disgrace. I usually get a mani-pedi once a month and recently fell in love with the powder nails so have been getting them filled and color changed every 2-3 weeks (my nails grow enough in that time it becomes noticeable). I've had a wonderful experience every time I've gone. Minimal wait time (15-20min total when they're busy and ~7min on average) so I usually don't bother to make an appointment. The stylists always ensure I'm happy with the length, shape, and color with plenty of time to change in case something is off (which it rarely is). I've only had a nail turn out funny once (I was a dolt and didn't notice I clipped the wet gel on the way into the UV light) and it was fixed quickly and with no extra charge! In short, V's is great. I've been going to V's Nail Studio for a few years and I've always loved my experiences there, until the last few times I've gone. My review is about our visit on April 7th, but my previous stop was almost the same. My pedicure was pretty lackluster - the technician was working on my pedicure and my friend's pedicure at the same time. I understand that all other technicians were busy but it really just made it seem like she was rushing through our service. She didn't scrub my feet for very long and I didn't even get a massage. Typically they do two coats of polish but she only did one. My manicure was even worse, it was very sloppy and the whole nail wasn't painted. She only did one coat of polish on my manicure too. My nails had already begun chipping on Saturday afternoon, so less than 24 hours after the manicure was done.I was so happy to find a nail place that I liked until I started having issues with them. The best nail salon ever!! I drive 30 minutes to go to this salon. Totally worth the effort!! Clean, efficient, wonderful service! The women who with here are happy and hard working! Tina is fabulous at doing acrylic nails! Mine have never lifted and last three weeks between fills. V, the owner, does beautiful nail art. Been going there since January every 2 weeks for shellac. Tina has been doing my nails. Never going back there. I always give her a fat tip. I had my nails done on Friday, by Saturday it was peeling, cracking and the color was changing. Don't want to go back and complain because they will make you feel bad for complaining. Read Less

I went in to get my feet done today and contemplated on doing my hands. The fear some people have of nail technicians talking about them behind their backs holds valid here. I am bilingual and pretended not to understand Vietnamese just to see if they would talk about their customers. To my dismay, they talked about not only me, but the other three girls in the store with me. I am so infuriated by the disrespect these women have on their guests just because they assume people cannot understand them. I'm sorry, but I will never be coming back here. I wanted a pink and white French manicure, but the lady told me there are so many customers  and it would take a loooooooong time so she couldn't do it and she could only paint my nails. If you would like to come here, make sure to have an appointment at least 24 hours ahead. If you have an appointment, they will work very hard to make sure you take precedence. Do not come here if you are in a hurry or have to be out by a certain time. I came here a couple weeks ago with my best friend (we had an appointment); we had to wait 30 minutes but she and I are both very patient so it didn't bother us. The worst. Had to wait with my fingers under a UV light far too long between coats as the manicurist moved from person to person. The place was dirty -  with only one scrub brush at the sink...when I refrained from scrubbing, my manicurist insisted I use it....ew. Wait was ridiculous with others there for up to an hour after they were promised they were next. I get it - it's probably targeted at students and I was just in town visiting for a wedding, but I saw a salon down the street I regret not going to. Prices weren't even that good for students. In conclusion, to the girl eating a Chipotle burrito bowl with her feet in a foot bath, while a lady rubbed them down and cut her toe cuticles - those are activities that never need to happen simultaneously. I really don't like giving bad reviews but this place was the worst. I made an appointment and still waited over an hour to be helped. Finally when someone acknowledged me, I soaked for 30 more minutes and finally had enough, left and went to Elite without an appointment and was helped immediately. Never going back to V's. My wife went here with a friend who was visiting from out of town. She would be yelping instead of me if she had an account. They both got the basic mani pedi package. "The salon is somewhat cramped, the nail techs seemed distracted as they were doing the mani/pedi and did not pay attention to details, and they switched between customers so you would have two different people doing hands and two different doing feet leading to inconsistencies. The staff seemed nice, but I went in for a French no chip and it turned out awful. They misshaped my nails after at least three objections to the shape on my end. In addition, the manicure looked sloppy because the white was completely jagged. It completely chipped off within two weeks and ruined my nails. It was very reasonable for a no chip in price, just not quality.Read Less

The only nail place I will go to around the Iowa City area! I have tried out a few different places, and nothing beats V's! I have only ever gotten shellac manicures there, but they are ALWAYS the best!!! Out of all of the nail salons I have EVER been to, I have never had a no chip manicure last as long as the one's I get at V's. I am SO impressed at how long my manicures with last without the polish coming off. Usually no-chip manicures will last about 2 weeks... I have gone 4 weeks without changing my polish! It's incredible! The only complain I would have is that sometimes the trim and shape of my nails are not always even or matching, but that is very minor! The quality of my manicure surpasses everything else! Such a great location for being a student at campus, and the pricing is great!  $25 for a shellac manicure, you can't beat that! Read Less

They have four pedicure options, and the lady doing my nails encouraged me to get the Signature. After I chose the Basic, which was a level down, she seemed frustrated. My favorite place to go for nails and eyelashes! Always a wonderful experience with these ladies! They're all super sweet and detailed, and I'm always pleased. Whenever I get my lashes done here they last a long time, and when I look really closely it's like she's able to attach them right to the root and as tight as possible. Other places I go to, I can see a wider gap and I can see more of my own lash at the base. I'm not sure if that's really the reason why they last longer, but they do when I get them done here. Same results with my nails too. My gels last significantly longer than when I get them done elsewhere, and the girls know how to make your nails look good!  Be sure to plan extra time though, even with an appointment. Atmosphere leaves something to be desired- there are a bunch of kids running around and the ladies will sometimes interrupt your service to go and attend to them before they get into trouble. However, they are great at what they do! I love getting my mani-pedis here.Also, the eyelash extensions are BEAUTIFULLY done. The lady who does them is definitely well trained and takes her time. My in-laws were in town and with the boys headed off to do their thing, I decided it'd be fun for us girls to treat ourselves to manicures. After reading several other reviews about this salon's tendency to be available by appointment only, I called right away in the morning and made an appointment. When we walked in, four women were getting pedicures with only two people staffing the salon, so our manicures weren't started until 45 minutes after our appointment time. The staff were very apologetic and explained that the women getting pedicures were walk-ins. Granted, that really didn't make me feel any better since the other women didn't have appointments yet were enjoying the comfort of the massage chairs while we, the ones with appointments, were sitting on rolling chairs facing a wall, and watching pain relief infomercials for 45 minutes. Queue the Seinfeld reference: "You see, you know how to taaake the reservation, you just don't know how to hooold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation - the holding... anybody can just take them." This salon does have a nice location in downtown Iowa City though and their pedicure chairs looked very new. Read Less

They will tell you that they can do your nails right away but then they will make you wait around for 15-20 minutes before even taking your nail polish off. It has happened to myself, my mom and my friends on multiple occasions. It can take up to 3 hours for a pedicure! No exaggeration. The place is unsanitary and the employees often switch from one person's nails to the next without washing their hands. The person who starts on your nails will probably not be the person who ends on your nails. They jump around because they are so understaffed.Read Less
