I've moved every couple years my entire life, and that means finding a decent hair stylist every couple years in a new place. It's an ugly and annoying process; and online reviews feel like they're only so much.
And, honestly, I feel like alot of the reviews are by old ladies doing the same cut for thirty-forty years, that literally any hair stylist should easily be able to do. But, having short hair and changing up styles and doing things more current felt like the first appointment would be good, and then people would get lazy and I'd be step by steping how to do my hair. Which means I don't have someone pushing and making suggestions to do things better and different.
MC, my stylist, has been awesome and has been perfect in helping me change things up and giving good suggestions; especially as I grow my hair out from a pixie. I still haven't felt awkward at all in this awkward stage because of her being good at what she does. I feel like the Spa itself is a little pretentious, but everyone is super nice and professional; and the little extras add up to a nice experience.
I wish it was cheaper, but you really get what you pay for here and I wholly recommend them.

I’ve been going to Salon W for years! I tried a few other salons when I first moved to the area, but fell in love with Salon W. It’s a beautiful space in a convenient location that’s unpretentious and generous towards its community. Elle has been cutting my long, curly, thick hair for years and does an outstanding job! She is patient, fun, and always knows just what I’m looking for in a haircut. Their prices are competitive and include all sorts of extras like scalp massage, makeup touch-ups, and paraffin hand dips. I also love seeing Abbie, Sarah, Camille, and Ryan for nail services. Love Salon W! 💕

Great place, but not everyone who works there is on their A game when it comes to hair, so chose wisely. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. Prices are a bit over the top, but you are paying for all the "extras" such as cucumber water, fruit and nut mix, staff to hang your jacket, makeup touch up, putting your purse in a black bag so it stays clean, etc. Also, parking is not free, there are meters out front that take coins or credit cards or you can pay for a parking garage.

I came to Salon Spa W for the first time to get my hair colored after hearing so many great things from family and friends. It was above and beyond my expectations. I went in for a color with Candice and couldn't of been more pleased. She was so nice and easy to talk to which made the experience that much more enjoyable. The color turned out perfect, and my hair feels the healthiest it ever has after a color. Candice recommended having the Oleplx treatment done, and I am so happy with the results after using the take-home product for only a few weeks. The front desk staff was all very welcoming and offered me wine upon arrival (which is always a plus). Alex Brooke even surprised me with a gift for their random acts of kindness that really made my day. I can't wait for my next appointment with Candice and to go back to Salon Spa W.

I have been a customer of Salon W for the past few years and always have a great experience whenever I go in. Jackie does my color and Lauren does my cut and I adore them both. They are not only friendly, fun and stylish but they do an incredible job on my hair and are very professional and competent stylists. They take the time to listen to what I want and are also able to make recommendations based on what I say whether it be for color, cut, products, etc. I am always greeted with a smile at the front desk and offered a beverage as well as refills throughout my time there. It is truly an enjoyable and pampering experience at Salon W from start to finish I highly recommend to anyone!

I love this salon and only stopped going because somewhere along the line I became cheap. When I saw that picture, my gut reaction was the same as a lot of yours. However, upon some reflection, yes, they should serve anyone who walks in their doors provided that person is not making threats t...o harm anyone, etc. That said, they should also expect in these highly polarized times that if you post a picture of your client Ivanka, there will be people who vote with their feet. That's capitalism and a risk you take if you jump into that fray. So no, do not discriminate against clients, but perhaps give a little deeper consideration to the ramifications if you choose to post a picture of high profile, polarizing client. I would advise anyone reading the reviews for actual reviews, make sure these people are local and are real clients. See More

All of you left wingers are so quick to jump all over a business when they serve our first family but if they denied service you would say nothing and congratulate them. I'm going to bet if they refused service to the Obamas you would be suing them and boycotting them in droves. Katie Jo is my go to mega-talented hair stylist; Sara and Abby both do amazing no chip manicures and pedicures. Carin is my colorist and is very talented and attentive. The owner (China) is a top-notched brilliant businesswoman. She is involved in every detail of running and managing Salon W. We just had a group of 10 girls get their hair done for a wedding. The staff were above and beyond friendly making the experience extra special! The space for our group was smaller than expected, especially since we had to share the space at the same time with another bridal party of 8. It was a tight fit, but happy they had a table, seating and counter space with own champagne glasses for us to use. The hair stylists did an extraordinary job on everyone's hair. Would recommend to others.

If you would like to be treated like the 1%, do yourself a favor and book an appointment at Salon W. You are treated to complimentary beverages throughout your visit, the atmosphere is fast paced, but not rushed or pushy. I always feel like the staff is going out of their way to ensure I enjoy myself thoroughly. Aside from being runway model beautiful, each member of the staff is kind, patient, courteous, professional and focused on you. They make me feel like I've gone from pauper to prince, and i won't go elsewhere. Corbin is my favorite stylist (the transition that she gives you from the street to her chair is positively decadent) and Ryan has magical hands that deftly remove all stress and tension during your pedicure. I make my appointments several months in advance to ensure that I get the day and time that I want. These stylists and technicians are the best I've experienced.

Joey is always going out of his way to make sure I am taken care of and I have always been thrilled with the attention to detail and thorough care by the stylists. My hair cut by Lauren was edgy and unique--exactly what I was going for. She carefully listened as I described my vision, and made sure we were on the same page before beginning the cut. Emily is always very thorough with my color and follows up to make sure I am happy with it. I really appreciate the fact that they seem to truly care that I leave the salon feeling pampered, refreshed, and confident.

On my very first visit, they spent time with me learning about my hair, preferences, products that I use, etc. I really appreciated that. When you arrive to each visit, you can get a beverage (water, tea, wine). Not only do you get a hair cut, you also get a scalp/shoulder massage, parrafin dip for your hands, and a make-up touch-up at the end. I even got a hand & arm massage while waiting for deep conditioning treatment. They don't miss anything!I have naturally curly hair and Mollie has been my stylist since I started going to Salon Spa W. She's fabulous and always takes the time to ensure that I like the length, and that the overall shape is appropriate. I used to worry about having someone cut my curls, but I totally trust Mollie and am always comfortable with her recommendations and cuts!I also love the Salon's reminder system. I get an email, text, and phone call up to 10 days prior and leading up to my appointment, so I always have plenty of warning if I forgot to write the appointment on my calendar.

Salon W is one of the few places I've gone to get my hair cut where they listened and then followed through with exactly what we agreed, no more and no less. My hair isn't so easy to cut, but I was pleased with the outcome. The prices are higher than most other salons in the area; however, I'd rather have a fantastic haircut and a few less pennies than a mediocre haircut with a few extra pennies.

Cons: price to highlight my hair : $125; My hair ended up being very brassy and nothing like what we had discussed or the picture the stylist picked out; So they re-did it (because they agreed my hair was brassy) and toned it down only the toner was sloppily applied and was picked up by the blonde highlights which turned green/gray; and Now I still have brassy hair with lovely green/gray spots. I'm going back to my old hair colorist who was amazing. I could take a picture in and I would leave with that hair color exactly. Plus the prices were much better. This is what I get for trying something new.

When I recently moved to Des Moines I was looking for an upscale, big-city salon with great customer service and reasonable prices. A friend recommended salonW in the East Village and I must say I was impressed! A complimentary glass of wine, paraffin hand dip, scalp massage and makeup touch up are a part of every service. Plus, the stylists are departmentalized and are therefore experts in their particular trade. My hair has never looked so good! I was educated by my stylist on how to style my hair at home and told exactly why they chose the cut and color for my age, face-shape and maintenance level. I saw Micki and KAL and am totally hooked!

I've moved every couple years my entire life, and that means finding a decent hair stylist every couple years in a new place. It's an ugly and annoying process; and online reviews feel like they're only so much.
And, honestly, I feel like alot of the reviews are by old ladies doing the same cut for thirty-forty years, that literally any hair stylist should easily be able to do. But, having short hair and changing up styles and doing things more current felt like the first appointment would be good, and then people would get lazy and I'd be step by steping how to do my hair. Which means I don't have someone pushing and making suggestions to do things better and different.
MC, my stylist, has been awesome and has been perfect in helping me change things up and giving good suggestions; especially as I grow my hair out from a pixie. I still haven't felt awkward at all in this awkward stage because of her being good at what she does. I feel like the Spa itself is a little pretentious, but everyone is super nice and professional; and the little extras add up to a nice experience.
I wish it was cheaper, but you really get what you pay for here and I wholly recommend them.

It’s a beautiful space in a convenient location that’s unpretentious and generous towards its community. Elle has been cutting my long, curly, thick hair for years and does an outstanding job! She is patient, fun, and always knows just what I’m looking for in a haircut. Their prices are competitive and include all sorts of extras like scalp massage, makeup touch-ups, and paraffin hand dips. I also love seeing Abbie, Sarah, Camille, and Ryan for nail services. Great place, but not everyone who works there is on their A game when it comes to hair, so chose wisely. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. Prices are a bit over the top, but you are paying for all the "extras" such as cucumber water, fruit and nut mix, staff to hang your jacket, makeup touch up, putting your purse in a black bag so it stays clean, etc. Also, parking is not free, there are meters out front that take coins or credit cards or you can pay for a parking garage.

I came to Salon Spa W for the first time to get my hair colored after hearing so many great things from family and friends. It was above and beyond my expectations. I went in for a color with Candice and couldn't of been more pleased. She was so nice and easy to talk to which made the experience that much more enjoyable. The color turned out perfect, and my hair feels the healthiest it ever has after a color. Candice recommended having the Oleplx treatment done, and I am so happy with the results after using the take-home product for only a few weeks. The front desk staff was all very welcoming and offered me wine upon arrival (which is always a plus). Alex Brooke even surprised me with a gift for their random acts of kindness that really made my day. I can't wait for my next appointment with Candice and to go back to Salon Spa W.

I have been a customer of Salon W for the past few years and always have a great experience whenever I go in. Jackie does my color and Lauren does my cut and I adore them both. They are not only friendly, fun and stylish but they do an incredible job on my hair and are very professional and competent stylists. They take the time to listen to what I want and are also able to make recommendations based on what I say whether it be for color, cut, products, etc. I am always greeted with a smile at the front desk and offered a beverage as well as refills throughout my time there. It is truly an enjoyable and pampering experience at Salon W from start to finish I highly recommend to anyone!

I love this salon and only stopped going because somewhere along the line I became cheap. When I saw that picture, my gut reaction was the same as a lot of yours. However, upon some reflection, yes, they should serve anyone who walks in their doors provided that person is not making threats t...o harm anyone, etc. That said, they should also expect in these highly polarized times that if you post a picture of your client Ivanka, there will be people who vote with their feet. That's capitalism and a risk you take if you jump into that fray. So no, do not discriminate against clients, but perhaps give a little deeper consideration to the ramifications if you choose to post a picture of high profile, polarizing client. I would advise anyone reading the reviews for actual reviews, make sure these people are local and are real clients. See More

All of you left wingers are so quick to jump all over a business when they serve our first family but if they denied service you would say nothing and congratulate them. I'm going to bet if they refused service to the Obamas you would be suing them and boycotting them in droves. We just had a group of 10 girls get their hair done for a wedding. The staff were above and beyond friendly making the experience extra special! The space for our group was smaller than expected, especially since we had to share the space at the same time with another bridal party of 8. It was a tight fit, but happy they had a table, seating and counter space with own champagne glasses for us to use. The hair stylists did an extraordinary job on everyone's hair. Would recommend to others.

You are treated to complimentary beverages throughout your visit, the atmosphere is fast paced, but not rushed or pushy. I always feel like the staff is going out of their way to ensure I enjoy myself thoroughly. Aside from being runway model beautiful, each member of the staff is kind, patient, courteous, professional and focused on you. They make me feel like I've gone from pauper to prince, and i won't go elsewhere. Corbin is my favorite stylist (the transition that she gives you from the street to her chair is positively decadent) and Ryan has magical hands that deftly remove all stress and tension during your pedicure. I make my appointments several months in advance to ensure that I get the day and time that I want. These stylists and technicians are the best I've experienced.

Jackie has been my colorist for over 4 years, she is truly an expert with blondes! She is very knowledgeable and always gives her best advice when I'm wanting to change things up. I always look forward to my appointments with Jackie!

I always look forward to my appointments at Salon W. From the moment I step inside the front door, the staff is warm, friendly, and willing to go the distance to make it an enjoyable experience. Joey is always going out of his way to make sure I am taken care of and I have always been thrilled with the attention to detail and thorough care by the stylists. My hair cut by Lauren was edgy and unique--exactly what I was going for. She carefully listened as I described my vision, and made sure we were on the same page before beginning the cut. Emily is always very thorough with my color and follows up to make sure I am happy with it. I really appreciate the fact that they seem to truly care that I leave the salon feeling pampered, refreshed, and confident.

I look forward to each and every visit to Salon Spa W because it's the perfect break in my day when I get to unwind and be pampered. On my very first visit, they spent time with me learning about my hair, preferences, products that I use, etc. I really appreciated that. When you arrive to each visit, you can get a beverage (water, tea, wine). Not only do you get a hair cut, you also get a scalp/shoulder massage, parrafin dip for your hands, and a make-up touch-up at the end. I even got a hand & arm massage while waiting for deep conditioning treatment. They don't miss anything!I have naturally curly hair and Mollie has been my stylist since I started going to Salon Spa W. She's fabulous and always takes the time to ensure that I like the length, and that the overall shape is appropriate. I used to worry about having someone cut my curls, but I totally trust Mollie and am always comfortable with her recommendations and cuts!I also love the Salon's reminder system. I get an email, text, and phone call up to 10 days prior and leading up to my appointment, so I always have plenty of warning if I forgot to write the appointment on my calendar.

Salon W is one of the few places I've gone to get my hair cut where they listened and then followed through with exactly what we agreed, no more and no less. My hair isn't so easy to cut, but I was pleased with the outcome. The prices are higher than most other salons in the area; however, I'd rather have a fantastic haircut and a few less pennies than a mediocre haircut with a few extra pennies.

Pros: Head/shoulder massage, hand massage and wax treatment and Aveda products. Cons: price to highlight my hair : $125; My hair ended up being very brassy and nothing like what we had discussed or the picture the stylist picked out; So they re-did it (because they agreed my hair was brassy) and toned it down only the toner was sloppily applied and was picked up by the blonde highlights which turned green/gray; and Now I still have brassy hair with lovely green/gray spots. I'm going back to my old hair colorist who was amazing. I could take a picture in and I would leave with that hair color exactly. Plus the prices were much better. This is what I get for trying something new.

When I recently moved to Des Moines I was looking for an upscale, big-city salon with great customer service and reasonable prices. A friend recommended salonW in the East Village and I must say I was impressed! A complimentary glass of wine, paraffin hand dip, scalp massage and makeup touch up are a part of every service. Plus, the stylists are departmentalized and are therefore experts in their particular trade. My hair has never looked so good! I was educated by my stylist on how to style my hair at home and told exactly why they chose the cut and color for my age, face-shape and maintenance level. I saw Micki and KAL and am totally hooked!
