I have like the fugliest feet and they look beautiful now! It's a cool atmosphere in East Village. I was helped immediately and the pedicure was awesome. Very thorough. Upon entering, the owner was very friendly, greeted me at the door and offered me a glass of wine. I thought this was going to be an excellent experience!That's where it stopped. The woman who did my nails obviously did NOT like her job and was not at all friendly. She pretty much argued with me every step of the way from trying to file off my toe polish instead of using remover, (regular nail polish- NOT gel) not filing my nails down far enough, (or even straight) trying to fix a cracked (long natural) nail by cutting it off completely (I didn't let her) to failing to use a base or top coats on either my toes or finger nails. She was super sloppy and filed (with drill) the crap out of my nails. I don't know about the rest of the staff but she made my experience as unpleasant as it gets. I know I'm picky, but when I pay for a service I don't want to have to babysit my nail tech every step of the way. Also...even though the salon was clean, every towel they were using was completely ratty. Looked like they had never been washed. Guess the other clients are too drunk to notice. Got off the plane from San Francisco and had a few hours to kill before my hotel (motel) check-in. I'm a spa manager in downtown SF so I figured I'd go relax like I know how to.Don't let the handwritten A-Frame fool you (or even the low prices as they do not reflect the awesome service) or the narrow stairway entry that could lead anywhere.This place was a gem. I was exhausted from my flight. It was cute and casual. They were rocking the 80's - did I mention I felt better as soon as I got inside? The walls are vibrant colors- an open inviting 2nd level spot with windows to people watch.  Tons of colors to choose from. Daven did my nails. He was really cool - not your usual nail artist that sits in since and it was much appreciated. He filled me in on the city and suggested places to hang out. Ok- enough story. Daven gave me a nail job that now a week later sitting in my room in San Francisco is still almost perfect ...not sure what brand this polish is but I worked on my family farm on trackers for 3 days and it hardly chipped. Pedicures are great! Love that they give you wine, beer or water while you're there. Lots of color options. I was disappointed in the full set I got. They are very thick, and unnatural. I just received wonderful service not 10 minutes ago. I've never had my nails done before and I thought it was time to treat myself for once. I was having one of my routine after work days and just thought I should pop in and see if they could get me in. I walked up the stairs and was greeted immediately. I told them I work in a restaurant and bartend so I wanted something that would hold up. What I believe may be the owner took me in to pick out a color. I chose a seaweed based color changing color with no formaldehyde or other harsh chemicals. I was also offered a glass of wine. I really appreciate that! I was kind of nervous because filing my nails makes me cringe. It made me more comfortable. All in all, I love the results and I will be back for a gel filling when my nails grow out as well as a pedicure in the future. I'm now a loyal customer. Thanks so much! Read Less

I've had acrylic nails off and on (but mostly on) for the past 20 years. A couple of years ago I bought into the craze of gel manicures. I thought they'd be less harsh on my nails. They might be if you only get them done occasionally. But, for the constant wearer, the continual soaking and scraping is just too much. At that point I took a break from nails. I, of course, decided to go back to acrylic to have my pretty nails back. However, during my break the lady who had been doing my nails disappeared. I was stuck finding a new person....the horror! I went from one nail salon disaster to another until I stumbled upon Art of Nails. It's a hidden gem in East Village located above Locust Tap. They do an amazing job with good attention to detail. They are also very friendly and welcoming. What more could one ask for?  Their pricing is a bit high, but I'm admittedly accustomed to LA pricing for nails. For the area they're in and being, in my opinion, the best salon in the area they are very reasonable. The worst thing I can say about them is that their color selection is smaller than most places and is hidden in a dark hallway.  But, they're a newer salon and that will come with time. After reading such great reviews and seeing the images of all the great nail art, I was thrilled to make an appointment. Staff was friendly but my desired look was never finished. Waited for a design and was sort of forgotten about. I had to get back out to the meter since I had been at Art for more than an hour. Was told by one of the gentlemen that I could go back the next day to get the palm tree design that was missed on my pedicure. It was a nice offer, if I wasn't heading on vacation. I have been coming to Art of Nails since they first open last year. The staff is super friendly and professional. I have gotten my hair cut and colored by Jen a couple of times and every time I have left the salon feeling like a million bucks! All of their services are affordable and they all do a great job. Great place! Kind of sketchy entrance, but it's really nice (and bright) inside. The people are very friendly; I was offered something to drink while I was picking out my color. And I've never had such attentive cuticle care. This was the basic pedicure too. I was very happy with how my nails turned out. I'll be heading back again to try the spa pedicure. Read Less

From the moment I walked in Jennifer was very kind! She knew I was in for my 6:15 apt time, showed me the nail color wall and offered me a beverage within the first three minutes! (Wine! Score!) Salon was clean and people were generally nice.  They offered us wine which was very nice.  Here's the problems--I made an appointment for a few of us days in advance then they didn't have enough staff to accommodate which made us very late by the time they finished everyone in shifts.  We told them we were attending a wedding. I got the worst manicure ever.  They used that machine used for fake nails on my cuticles (I've never had fake nails and I wasn't taking off a no-chip).  It's over a month later and my nails are still a mess from that.  I got their version of a 7 day manicure (they use a brand I've never heard of) which lasted about 26 hours.  Very disappointing. This is an awesome hair and nail salon at a great location! The atmosphere is upbeat with a very friendly staff. I've had my hair done by Jenny (one of the owners) and my nails done by Jackie. My first good visit was a Groupon special. I was pleasantly surprised that the staff speaks English well. It is very clean and very relaxing experience. You don't feel like you're getting herded in and out like cattle. They don't talk about you in Chinese while they're working on your nails. I'm definitely going back and the prices are great.
