Not even close to being as good as they were a few of years ago! I stopped going to them a couple of years ago because they became really rushy and the quality of work went out the window after Mary left. I took a chance and went back on Monday 10/17/16. It wasn't busy so I figured maybe it would be worth another try after so long. Big mistake! I will never return and suggest others to find another nail salon that takes pride in doing quality work! Very nice staff and good nail polish selection. I thought their pedicures were done nicely. They don't do any hand massages with their manicures and they were very quick with putting on the polish. They also don't use any products to soften the cuticles which I personally like. In addition, they are very pricey compared to other nail salons in the area. Read Less

Will NOT go back. My entire pedicure from start to finish was 16 minutes, it was just myself and another lady so they weren't busy at all! I specifically asked him not to use the "grater" on my feet, he did and ended up cutting me!! He skipped the scrub and the lotion parts, didn't massage my legs. He put my nail polish on without a base coat!! Seriously!?! Throughout this horrible pedicure there are 2 little boys (their sons) screaming, hollaring, running around and have Spongebob blasting on the tv. This is place needs to get way more credit. Lilly is the main nail tech girl there, along with he aid of her sweet mother and nice husband. She is the kindest,nicest person, and is very reasonable with pricing. She also does an amazing job, like superb job with shellac. She bends over backwards for people. On two accounts now, she came in super early for me because my aunt died and I had to leave town and needed my nails to look ok for the funeral, AND she stayed late( I didn't know they were close to closing when I came in asking for my usual mani pedi) so basically what I'm saying is go there. At first glance this place is clean & classier than the other nail salons in the area. I like that they have all the nail colors organized too. There were only 3 staff working and they multi tasked to take care of at least 2 customers each. They still took their time and did a great job. I got gel polish & a pedicure & I'm happy with both (& I'm very picky!). The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that I'm used to a little more massaging with the mani & pedi and I think it would be beneficial for them to have a bit more  staff on duty. I usually never get manicures, but I decided to get some fake tips for homecoming and just a manicure. (This was my first time getting tips) I sat down and I had a hangnail so the man started pulling like crazy at it and then he finally realized it wasn't going to come off so he plucked it. Then, they were gluing the tips on,and  the glue got on my skin and started burning and continued to burn for the next hour. Okay so the tips were on and they repeatedly kept getting nail polish in my cut after I told them that it stung. Next, they started using that vibrating tool hat rotates and smooths your finger nail and she was by my cuticle and she caught my skin and it was very painful. I also noticed that they work way too fast and don't do quality work. If she had slowed down, she wouldn't have caught my skin. The tips do look pretty, but the experience was horrible and I plan on never going back there except to get them removed in a couple days. Worst place I've ever been to. Don't go here. I also read that other people have experienced that multiple people worked on their nails. Came here with a friend for a mani-pedi. I have mixed feelings about this place. I will say in the Iowa City area this is one of the better "nail only" salons. If you want a really great manicure/pedicure consider booking with one of the area complete service spas. That being said Vyda's did an OK job on my nails. The gentleman who worked on my feet didn't spend an adequate amount of time to really remove the skin and cuticle. He also didn't use a base coat or top coat. However, the man that worked on my nails did a nice job. They also have a really great selection of polishes, especially in shellac colors. Overall, I would come back because the prices are considerably more affordable than the salons that offer superior services. Read Less

Came in for acrylics. I had 3 diff people work on my nails. The girl was nice, the men there, or actually boys, since they acted immature, were so unprofessional. Besides service, my nails came out crooked, and were in pain the next day. That never happens to me. Pls get nail services else where. Beware! Read Less

Think their business has slipped.  Went in after a long time.  Got a very rushed manicure and pedicure.  She painted my skin, put on way to many coats too fast, and now I have bubbling.  I plan on going home and redoing my nails.  From now on, I will pay the extra $10 to get a good manicure and pedicure.  Disappointing when you look so forward to a relaxing time, only to be rushed and come home with a bad paint job.  Won't go back. As a rule, I avoid nail salons. I occasionally try one before a big event, get a not so great manicure, and remind myself why I'm better off doing my own nails. Until I tried Vy-Das last week. This is Day 9, and my deep wine polish is still PERFECT.  Dark red colors require skilled painting, and the young man who did my hands was truly meticulous. My toes look just as flawless. This is a family operation -- the owners live above the salon. That makes a big difference in the atmosphere and the quality (compared to rushed employees pressured by owners in some  salons). I'm a fan, and super glad to have found a salon I can rely on for special event mani/pedi's. I may just treat myself more often! Read Less

I had the pleasure of having a pedicure at Vydas Nail and Spa last night with my 13 year old daugter.  I have NEVER received such wonderful customer service.  They went out of their way to make the designs on our toes extra special when they found out that we were leaving for a beach vacation.  We were not rushed to pay or to get out of our seats (unlike another local nail salon that we usually use).  We were encouraged to sit back and relax. If you have smaller children, they have the cutest salon chairs with butterfly wings and cute little pink basins for soaking their feet.  I can't wait to take my girls.  I will be going back very soon! I've been on the hunt for a staple nail salon and unfortunately, Vydas is NOT it.While the atmosphere seemed great, I was not pleased with the actual service.  The chairs are nice, the store is clean, and the nail techs are super enthusiastic and friendly.  Great selection of polishes- OPI only, no Essie.  They tried to tell me customers don't like Essie?  (Really?  Essie Mademoiselle is the #1 selling polish color in the country in 2008. Still going strong as far as I know.)There was much to be desired from the actual mani and pedi.  First the tech left a lot of cuticle skin on both my hands and feet.  I had to ask her to go over them  twice.  She had planned to NOT use base coat (no matter how light or dark, always use base to prevent staining.  Nails 101!), and I had to stop her and ask to use it.  Afterwards, there was polish all over my cuticles (hence the poor cutting job) and requested the tech use acetone and paint brush to clean up.  All in all, I had to ask for the basics.  Kind of annoying to have to do so.  The search continues....
