I was very excited to come here to get my nails done but as soon as I sat down I knew I made a mistake! First off all the workers were extremely rude and had no idea what I was asking for! The man who did my nails held my fingers so tight I lost feeling in them and he repeatedly got up and made phone calls during the process of doing my nails and I ended up at his chair for two hours because he took so many breaks! I was a waste of time and money! Their supplies are outdated and not clean and I regret deeply paying for the acrylics I got! Please anyone considering going here don't! This was the worst nail experience i’ve ever had. Whenever any of us asked to get something fix or changed they either rolled their eyes and have attitude or refused to do so. I was leery based on the other reviews but it was convenient. They got me in quickly and they had a lot of colors. I was worried about cleanliness but I think that it's okay. The girl was nice and she did a good job but she was talking to a guy across the room and she kept looking at him. I am concerned about ingrown toenails because she gave my toenails a rounded shape but they look nice. My event is Saturday, so I have a few days to decide whether I am returning for my manicure. Over $40 for a pedicure seems high but she did a very thorough job and they do look nice. Read Less

I would not even rate them a 1 star they gave me a toe infection went back to complain and the lady I talked was a rude but gave me my money back and told me not to come back there and also tryed to blame my shoes I had on this winter but didn't address the issue that it only happened after the nails being done and tryed to place blame other where Read Less

I will NEVER go here again! She spent 15 minutes on each dang nail and didn't seem to know what she was doing. when using the filing tool she got my skin 2-3 times. I though she broke blood once but thank god there was no blood. When she used the hand fill I though she was going to rip my nails off or break my fingers due to how rough she was! The nail polish will applied poorly and so were the nails. She didn't even fill in one nail all the way. I will continue to stick with angel nails in Iowa city because I'm in and out in less then 30 minutes and they're very nice and do an amazing job! I will not suggest this place to anyone! Read Less

My best friend and I weren't greeted when we first walked in, maybe five minutes later. We told them we both wanted mani pedis and they got us started. The water was way tok hot but they adjustrd that as soon as I said something. My tech removed my nail polish that was previously on my toes but didn't buff off the residue. I had asked for French tips but with the residue, the clear coat looked awful at the end so I asked to have my big toes painted over to cover it. He stared at my toes for about five minutes and then looked at me and said 'why didn't you say that before?!' and walked away. Finished my toes and moved to the tables to get my mani. Asked for square shape, got round. Wanted matte finish, painted glossy without asking me beforehand.He, then, stood with his hand on his hip at the counter waiting for me to come pay. I've tried most of the nail places in town and have always felt they were average but not outstanding. I really wanted a manicure today and was frustrated most nail places are closed on Monday, so I decided to give Modern a try. I received what is probably *the best* gel manicure I've had in town for a fraction of what I've paid elsewhere. I will most definitely be back!!! Read Less

Went on a Thursday night and was told the wait would be 15 minutes. After waiting 45 minutes it was finally going to be my turn but the employee who was going to paint my nails left and went to the back on his phone.. I took my daughter in at noon just to have her nails painted before she started kindergarten and by 5 pm, her whole right hand polish was gone. It just came off in one whole piece. And of course, there is no phone number for me to contact someone to let them know. Will NOT go back. Read Less

I would not recommend, there were 4 of us and the service for the manicure and pedicures was fine altough I was told a different price for the kids manicure and pedicure. I had a fill in and it was not good, she didn't pull the acrylic all the way down my nail nor down the sides. I have been getting my nails done for over 20 years abd this us not the place. Read Less

I got a manicure and pedicure and I thought the person that did my nails, was very rude. The pedicure and manicure was actually painful instead of enjoyable. When she was doing the pedicure she was scrubbing my feet so hard that it hurt. My toe nail was very short and she decided to file it and my toe started bleeding. Definitely not what  I was expecting. When she was doing the manicure she just randomly got up and left and came back a few minutes later. That was a little strange. When my nails were drying at the nail drying station, she came up to me and asked for the money. I thought that was very rude. I went on a Saturday afternoon and I felt like I was in a factory.  The pedicure wasn't terrible, though.I have a funny-shaped pinky toenail that the tech tried to clip off.  When I curled my toes away twice I thought he would get the point and move on but he clipped a third time.  For being such a high-volume place, I was disappointed the tech didn't have a little more sense.   My feet are not so unusual!As my sister and I sat and chatted, the lady at the next chair over was clearly eavesdropping.  At least pretend you're reading a magazine!  But I digress.Both of our massage chairs made funny low buzzing noises (outside the usual).  Mine felt like all that was separating me from the hard massagers was a flimsy piece of plastic.  I only let the cycle run once.  The basic pedicure included the usual - cuticle shaping, nail filing/buffing, foot scrubbing, massage, and color/top coat.  Though the massage was long enough, it wasn't thorough as my tech's eyes were glued to the TV in the back corner of the room.   If I'm at Target or in the mall and am desperate for a pedicure, I might come back.  But I won't make a point to do it.I miss the nail salons in Chicago!!!!
