Unfortunately I'm going to tell you exactly why I hate this place. I went there to get a very simple pedi, just wanted a clear coat of paint, I had places to be, things to do. So I get sat down mention wanting a eyebrow wax but that I would come back in on Monday to get it. Ohhhhhhh no. I mentioned a wax and they would not shut up, urging me to do more, a Mani as well. At first I declined and deflected. They kept persisting and I said, "Listen, stop pressuring me." "Oh no no we're not pressuring you." Okay so why am I here debating with you people? Then as I previously stated, I only said clear coat. I originally picked a very light pink but switched to clear coat right away. I looked down and he was putting a clear coat on so I looked at my phone, after I thought "huh this is taking too long" I looked down and they are pink and SHELLAC. I DID NOT ASK FOR SHELLAC AND HAD TO PAY EXTRA BECAUSE "it's so pretty, it lasts longer." I don't care, I didn't ask for this. And can I just mention once again, that throughout the ordeal I'm being pressured from three different people for extra services. This is the nail polish AFTER I CLEANED MY TOES UP AFTER THE SALON. Just don't go here. It's trash, the prices are trash. I literally had to promise them I would come back all the way up until I was pushing the door open to leave, just so they would shut up. I have only been to this shop once, I was warned by my aunt when we went in that they would try to nickel and dime you for “deluxe items” or extras and to just say no. The total for a basic mani NOT gel polish was close to $26 for one person which is ridiculous and it’s cheaper to get my nails done in the Twin Cities than rural Iowa! But I must say they shaped my nails beautifully, got rid of dead skin, and the nail polish hasn’t chipped yet and we’re 5 days out and that impressive for my nail type! Only nail salon I will visit in Ames! My nails have always been perfect when I leave the salon. If there is an issue, bring it up! I have multiple times pointed out small errors and they politely fix them. They have never made me feel uncomfortable, even when they speak in their native language. Often times I have multiple people working on my nails to get the job done faster. Their prices are comparable to every other salon in Ames, Ankeny, and Des Moines. Of course, they are going to push for more business and ask if you need any other services...not to mention that their eyebrow waxing is very affordable and the gal always does a great job. I have been going to Happy Nails every 2-3 weeks for the last 6 months and have never had a bad manicure, pedicure, or eyebrow wax. I highly suggest Happy Nails to anyone in Ames! Read Less

I had a nice pedicure and when my manicure started and I was forced to leave a tip on my card, I didn't realize I had no cash and wanted to tip. Apparently she either didn't like that I left it on my card or the amount because my technician became completely rude and definitely did not care about the work she was doing on my nails. If I could give ZERO stars I would!! The prices on their site don't match what they charge you, which is an astronomical amount!!! I went there with my 5 year old daughter. She & I got the BASIC mani/pedi, I didn't have my fingers painted and it was $85!!! My daughters toenails were totally messed up, I asked to have them redone and the second time was worse. Not to mention we waited forever. What a joke, $85 for crap polish and a half ass mani/pedi. I'll never go back to this place again. I usually go to a different salon but I was in the Brookfield area and needed a fill so I stopped here. My nails are crooked and weren't filed evenly and my polish doesn't go to the edges. I also saw on their sign that a fill was $18. The girl then charged me $20 and I said "I thought the fills were $18". She said because she drilled my nails down shorter it was $20. When you have acrylics and they grow out you always need them shortened and I've never been charged extra for that. She then saw me take a picture of their pricing when I left and then decided to follow me outside and refund me the $2 she knew she over charged me. I will never go here again! Read Less

I have gone here many times and have always had a great experience. They do a great job on manicures and pedicures making sure to get rid of all the dead skin around the cuticles. I get the shallac polish and it stays on for a few weeks. Yes they try to "add on sales" but who doesn't. I have been to other salons that clip your finger, don't shape the nail as requested or whose polish chips on day one. I have never had that experience here. I think the staff are courteous. They sometimes speak to each other in Vietnamese but I could care less if I look and feel great when I walk out the door. Read Less

I went there with a friend and decided on a whim to have my nails done (you do have to treat yourself once in a while, right?). I now regret my decision. I was talked into having the gel manicure instead of the normal one, even though I wanted to generic nail polish. Having never used gel nail polish before, and never having researched the subject, I was not aware of the differences or the benefits/disadvantages.When treating my cuticles, the guy that was doing my nails actually snipped a tiny piece of my actual skin/flesh and my finger was bleeding. He tried to stop it and while it did for awhile, it started bleeding again under the fluorescent light during the nail polish drying part. As for the nail polish, the guy started doing a good job, but as he got to the third coat, his work started getting sloppy. I can see that on several fingers, the nail polish is sloppy (basically where there should be nail polish only on the nail, it is also on the skin). He also did not clean the nails very well before applying the  nail polish so on a few fingers there are granular particles stuck underneath the polish. Overall, a dreadful job. Read Less

Very disappointed with this nail store. I had requested coffin shaped nails and they were all messed up. Had two different people working on both hands which meant two different shapes. Unfortunately, neither one knew what a coffin shape was because they came out different shapes of round again on each hand. A third person jumped in to try to make it look half way decent. They didn't have me wash my hands so my polish has dust specs in it. That was my first and VERY LAST time ever stepping foot in that nail store. If I could give it no stars, I would. Read Less

I originally tried to get an appointment for my daughter and myself at Polish across the way, but after an unbelievably rude encounter, we headed over to Gigi. I'm so glad we did! Very clean, wide variety of polishes and services, super friendly staff, and they are great with kids. My 5 year old loves it there...plus free designs for littles! I've only had my nails done a few times, and this time being for prom. Every time I have them done the same exact way. I believe it's the the full set of pink gel. Although the people were very pleasant, I'm not pleased whatsoever with how my nails turned out. First of all, it was extremely painful. I'm still in pain over 8 hours later. My nails are very sore, and like I said I've had this exact thing done multiple times and never had this issue before. The nail tech did not take his time at all. The gel doesn't completely fill my nail, as it doesn't reach my cuticle. So it appears that there's already been a few days worth of outgrow. When the gentlemen filed down my cuticles, he left them very rough and jagged and peeling. Overall I'm just not happy with my results. If you'd like quality nails I recommend going elsewhere. Nothing too special. Don't have many gel colors to choose from and the one I picked they said was "new" but the bottle was covered in polish and it was so goopy. Not where I normally go but I was in a pinch to get them done. Filed my nails down SO thin they're bending, when I normally have really thick, strong nails. Didn't take the polish down to my cuticle, so my outgrowth is going to be bad. Plus, he filed my nails after the gel was all set and they're left feeling ridged. My nail tech was so pushy about getting a design or French when I told him several times that I did not want that. Would not recommend. Read Less

I went to Happy Nails on Grand to get my nails done. I showed the lady a picture of the design I wanted. She told me it would cost over 40 bucks. I told her I did not want to spend that much. Well, after half way through I asked her if she had a palate that showed what nail designs they offer. She responded "Dont worry I'll make it took pretty." I said okay let her do her thing. All finished and I love them. I asked her how much and she said 43 and some change.... then wouldnt accept my card because she "likes cash" she told me to go get money out of the atm. So my fiance paid instead. She included extra fees without telling me, then charged me. I will never go back there again and highly recommned you avoid this place. Read Less
