HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE AND QUALITY OF WORK This is the most absolute worst salon I have ever been to in my life they used to be good but they have completely gone down the hill their service is horrible they scream at the customers they don’t care whether they did it right or if they did it wrong you just need to pay them when you tell them there’s a problem they scream and yell at you even more and tell you to get out of their shop this is not how you treat your customers and I can guarantee you that if they keep treating your customers like this and doing crappy work that of a preschooler they’re not going to stay in business much longer they used to be an awesome salon and they put their customers first I don’t know what happened to that but it’s completely gone never go back nor will I ever recommend this place to anybody in fact I will steer anybody that I know away from this one and trust me I know a ton of people😡😡😡😡😡 Read Less

I don't know the last time I saw my natural nails. Im a pretty seasoned customer! This is the second time I have received poor quality from this establishment. My nails SERIOUSLY broke in the shower and they refused to fix them! It's been less than a week!!! They also would not refund my money. I even told then to keep the tip. So I had a full set and FOUR NAILS BROKE in one week!!! I got my nails done for my bday and was happy when I got a gift certificate to go back at first. I went today and they were booked so I asked to set an appt. They told me they could get me in Tuesday. I asked to see what else they had avail. And they were argumentative and refused to assist me with scheduling what was good for me. I asked if the purchaser can get a refund and they said no. The best nail salon I've ever been, they are all so professional and you will have the best customer service EVER!!!I always go there to do my pedi/mani, I went to other places sometime to do my pedi and gel manicure. And you know what, Deluxe PEDI in Star Nails is so different from other places! Other nail salons' deluxe PEDI is as same as star nails basic one, if you want to treat yourself well and make your experience to worth the money, just make an appointment with Star Nails. Make sure you call ahead because they are very busy. I went to Happy Nails at Chauncey mall to do my gel manicure, even after three coats, I still could see the underneath of my nails, and I had to remind her to fulfill every corner of my Nails. In Star Nails, you never need to that. If, any one didn't make your nails and toes as you expected, especially for gel, just let James know immediately. Anyway, if you have your file and buffer, just remember bring them with you, they charge you one dollar for that because  they don't use the same set for everyone, they make sure the one you have is only for you. Arrived at 10:50 for a gel polish changed. There were two people - one mani, one pedi and two workers. He said.....oh long wait for just color change. Maybe 2:30-3:00. I visited this place when I went down to Indiana for vacation, and I loved the results!I did acrylic UV gel, and thr acryilcs stayed on for really long time without feeling patchy. I messed it up a little bit by moving my stuff around while I was drying my nails, but my nail technician was so nice about it and re-did my nails. I love this place, and will definitely visit again whenever I go to Indiana! Read Less

TERRIBLE!!! They are rude & I was waiting 2 hrs while I watched ppl walk in after me & get serviced first. When I finally got my nails done, I was extremely disappointed because James didn't polish my entire nail! The corners of my nails were unpolished! I've been twice & I will never go again! This was the worst manicure I've ever received in my life, and I do not give 1 star reviews haphazardly. First, my nail technician appeared to be the owners daughter. She came in dressed like any teenager would be on a Saturday afternoon and was texting and seemed irritated that she had to help out. I am not sure if she is licensed or not, based on her abilities and degree of professionalism.For my manicure, she chopped off all my nails and filed them really short. Her reasoning being that I had one that was shorter and flat so she grinded them down to nubs. Next, the paint I selected was supposed to be a grayish purple and it turned out to be an ugly purple. I was in a rush so I just had her finish the manicure. The results were AWFUL. I can see my nail underneath the two coats she did, it is patchy and streaky. The top coat was not put on appropriately and also has streak marks. For $33 this was such a joke for a gel manicure. I'll never go back and I will advise everyone to stay far away. Read Less

Not only did I bleed twice, they totally scammed me! I gave star nails 3 chances and won't be going back again.! Their no chip never lasts past 9-10 days, if you are lucky. The 3rd time it was chipping after 6 days. I was out of town so I went back in right after 1 week and asked if they could fix the few nails that were chipped. They said, "we will just fix them all, start over." I said I'm going to use the same color so you can just fix these 3 that is okay. They said, "no we will remove all the polish and start over." I though well, that's great customer service! My technician rushed through everything, cutting my skin, causing me to bleed. Somehow I still found it in me to tip her...when I went to leave they said, "wait you have to pay us $19." I said, no you told me you were fixing it...They laughed...they actually laughed...then said, "this isn't free, we only fix our no chip up to 3 days." Seriously? What a scam. She CUT my finger! I went in this morning for a gel polish change. The nail tech got polish on the skin near my nail and instead of using polish remover to correct her mistake, she used a cuticle remover to remove the skin where the excess polish was and completely cut my finger. My thumb was bleeding in the salon. What blows my mind is that I was still charged for the service. As a type one diabetic, open wounds are a major concern for me. What a rip off. It states $26 for a pedicure but that's not an option when they show you the menu and insist on selecting from there. Then they charge you an extra dollar for a cheap buffer and nail file. No foot massage. Color application on toes was sloppy. Get like my toes were getting massacred with the clipper. When I asked if lotion was included, the tech put a small drop on both shins. Also, she asked if I read English while looking at the menu as if I didn't understand. Waste of $30 plus. Read Less

By far the rudest salon workers I've ever encountered. My nail broke within 3 days of leaving and there was no sorry or I'll fix it. I was addressed rudely and even when I told them I have the $3 to pay for the nail to be fixed in my hand he is still addressing me in manner as though I'm trying to get something for free. I have no reason to beg for a$3 nail fix, I've spent more than $100 here in a month prior to this. I can pay for my nails to be fixed but the least that can be done is an apology for the service before and try to make sure I come back. The manager James and nail tech Vinny think someone is out to con them but are losing people that are helping them. There are nail salons all around west lafayette, this shouldn't even be anyone's last resort. I even told them I'm not coming back because of the horrible service and him being rude he says that's fine there are other nail salons.  I see that's why they only have 3 people being serviced on a Saturday afternoon. LOOK AT THE  REVIEWS THAT ARENT EVEN RECOMMENDED ALL BAD. I was called a liar about not being left over nail polish from last time underneath as well. I happened to stop here as a last result, but was happily surprised. I came in for a no chip gel fill on my stiletto shaped nails. Right away I was helped and my nails were worked on by a nail tech named Tony. Tony did a great job and although I don't live in Indiana, but come here often, I would go back to him again. My fill was $36 and I was pleased with the price as that is roughly what I pay when I'm back home in Illinois at my go to salon. I was charged a dollar extra for a brand new nail file and buffer. I didn't know I'd have to purchase that, but I didn't mind for $1. If I need a fill next time I'm in town, I will be back at this place. Read Less

Had 3pm appointment, they had no system to honor appointments. Another lady had a 2pm appointment and was just getting service at 3:15. Another customer was asking for her nails to be finished. Pros: friendly, nail polish lasts well (especially for pedicures), clean, great polish selectionCons: wait time is rarely accurate (I don't think we have the same definition of "five minutes"), you have to buy a new file and buffer for $1 each time you go if you forget to bring your ownI've been coming to Star for so long, and I remember when they had very few staff members.  I have been happy to see their business grow in the recent years.I usually don't come in without an appointment.  I call (usually same day) to make an appointment, knowing that it may or may not be kept when I arrive.  I'm sure they have some many people make appointments and not show so they have to overbook themselves to be safe.  I haven't really ever had a bad experience here.  The massage chairs are comfy, the staff is friendly and the polish really lasts (I'm checking out my three week old pedi and it still looks new).  This is my favorite place to stop in town- just remember to bring your own file and buffer unless you want to pay an extra buck (I always forget mine so I have about 6 little baggies of the files they sell you).
