My mother and I have been going to this salon for years, ever since I had my wedding party's manicures and pedicures done here. We always used to go to another salon but, they sold us with their great quality product. Every time we would come here it is always busy, which shows that they do a great job, but sometimes you have to wait a bit. I am now 5 months pregnant and try to get in for an early appointment, but it is always booked till late when I would call. I have to say the service from the staff has almost always been pleasant, but I do not know why their front desk staff is always in such a grumpy mood. She has never smiled or been pleasant and always makes it seem like you are burden for her to deal with. Last time I called to schedule an appointment the front desk staff was not pleasant over the phone and I always greet people in a genuine happy way, because life is too short to be grumpy all of the time, but she didn't respond and was very inattentive. When I said that I would like to schedule two manicure appointments she left me on the phone to wait while she talked to someone else regarding an appointment. I tried to be patient and wait, but it was getting ridiculous. I am sorry, if you are in the service industry, when you answer a phone call from a potential client you need to make them your priority until you end the phone call, otherwise that is how you begin to lose loyal clients and potential future clients. I waited and waited while they talked and I finally just decided to hang up, because I found it incredibly rude and unprofessional. The owner of this spa does such an amazing job at getting to know his clients, but he needs to be aware that the front desk staff is your first impression for new clients. If your front desk staff has a person that is unapproachable, grumpy in demeanor, unprofessional and not attentive to clients you are going to lose loyal clients and new ones as well. Read Less

I have been going to this location in south bend for a few months now, and have not been disappointed.. Last night I went in and had the best job done as I got a fill. One of the owners I believe his name is Hong, he did the most amazing job, reshaped my coffin nails to look the appropriate way they were supposed to and he had really good conversion, he was just,overall so awesome.. Even though someone made a mistake and skipped over my name by accident so I waited a lot longer than I should have, he totally made it up by doing such a good job! I tried a few nail salons when I first moved to the area over a year ago, I had a few bad experiences until I discovered J and J nails. Since I had my nails done there, I have kept coming back ever since. The owners are so talented , lovely and make me feel so welcome. Me and my mum went to J&J about 3 weeks ago. I was very impressed we booked via the Facebook page and I found the staff very friendly and approachable I’ve been to a few nail places in town and I have to say this one beats it hands down. The best service i have had. My friend and i work late and really wanted our toes done. We called ahead to make an appointment. They close at 8:00 but took us at 7:30. Took there time and did a fantastic job. They even gave us massages for at least 10-15 minutes. They have a great supply of colors and brands and a beautiful salon. Highly recommend this salon! Customer service by the reception is is terrible ! She is rude and makes it feel like she is doing you a favor by answering a question . Also stood at the desk waiting for receptionist and nail tech came up there and looked at me as if she was there to help me. I asked if I could schedule an appointment and she turned around and started talking to the manager about someone's nails and walked away! I enjoy the environment and came there today as I loved this salon years ago when they were smaller. My daughter and I arrived a few minutes early to our scheduled appointment to choose our nail color and sign in. The appearance of the business was disorganized and crowded. It almost had a messy appearance. Our appointment time came and went. Fifteen minutes after our scheduled time, my daughter asks the receptionist at the counter how much longer we would have to wait. The receptionist had been “snappy” and informed my daughter that we were next. A few minutes later a woman had appeared stating that we should follow her and quickly walked off leaving us behind to try grab our stuff and catch up to her. She did not even look back to see if we were there until she was nearly at the chairs we were to sit in at the back of the business. Our pedicures were to consist of a 30 minute treatment with foot and leg message. The lady that did my pedicure did not say anything to me and held a lengthy conversation (in her native language) with the lady next to her. Many times she would stop my pedicure to talk with her hands; using up my 30 minute time which was being tracked by a timer. She barely massaged my feet (except to put lotion on) and did not message my legs at all. The gentleman working on my daughter was very attentive to her and was completely messaging her feet and legs. Needless to say, my pedicure was finished well before hers. After my pedicure, I was told to wait there someone would come and get me. The lady that was sent to retrieve me did not identify me by name only the next treatment I would have done which was acrylic nails. Unfortunately, they had me down for a “fill”; the wrong treatment. I declined and she went off confused. Once the correct next treatment for me was figured out (although they could have just asked me), the lady said she does not do acrylic nails and handed me off to someone else. The lady grabbed my purse (which I did not appreciate) and led the way to my next seat. Once I was seated in my chair, the nail lady, whom I had been handed off to, started to clean off a very dusty and crowed work station. I noticed all the work stations looked pretty much as dusty and crowed. My chair was close enough to the station behind me that people could not pass without bumping me. Once the lady was ready she started measure my nails for the acrylics and stated “you want them long and square, correct”. I was taken back; she had not asked how I would like my nails at all. I told her I would like active length and square, yes. She did not understand my request for length so I told her I would show her once she was ready to cut them. Once again, while working, the nail lady was more concerned with her work associates than my treatment. She continuously looked around and would stop to talk (in her language) to someone else. There was even one point when she had the smoothing drill in her hand and nicked my finger due to her watching what was going on diagonally behind her. She was very apologetic for the error but continued to push on the cut and rub it with her dusty fingers. (As a nurse, I know this is a possible infection issue) I assured her I was ok to get her to stop. During my application of acrylic nails, another customer had set at the station next to me. She was just there for a fix. She had been there the day before and gotten acrylics with a French manicure. The white nail polish had chipped. She was told that if she had bought the more expensive polish this would not have happened. She stated that she has gotten the same nail treatment done for years and this was the first time it had chipped. They informed her they would have to start over and charge her. She was adamant about just getting the polish fixed. I’m not sure what happened with her but the staff had treated her very poorly and even argued with her. Read Less

The receptionist placed blame on the other receptionist on the mix up but why wasn't this noticed before both myself and the other appointment showed up and called to reschedule rather than us both come to the business, wait ten minutes and then notice the fault. My experience here was terrible. I made an appointment, but ended waiting the as if I were one of the walk-in customers. Then had a tech who laughed at the color I choose... she thought it was too boring. It seemed appropriate to me... as I was getting the manicure because of the JOB INTERVIEW that I had the next day! I use to love this place and always went because it was close to home. The last few times service has been horrible, people are rude and they've started charging extra for RIDICULOUS things. I took my daughter last week to get her nails done and pedicure for prom and I asked them how much for a full set and they said $30. I left her there while I went to some other stores across the street. She called me when done saying they charged her $35 so I came back over and asked them... why. They said it was extra because she asked them to push her cuticles back (last time they didn't and it looked horrible). I've been getting my nails done for years and they've always pushed my cuticles back, never charged. They also told her that it was extra to shave the dead skin off of her feet too and that it was included with the pedicure she got. I've gotten the same pedicure many times and they've always done that for me. I also think it's ridiculous to charge extra to choose a different shape of nail (square, square round, coffin etc) and to paint one nail a different color. Why????? Makes no sense to me. My son's girlfriend and I went in yesterday for Manis and pedis and it was wonderful. I had this gentleman that I will not go back to no matter what. I only want a female to do my stuff from here on out. He was really rough with the massaging of my feet and then when I had my manicure done and polish I did the gel polish and he didn't get the color on my whole nails at all. As much as I paid for the services that we had done he should have done a better job. My son's girlfrie...nd Mani and pedis look amazing with no flaues and look perfect but mine in the other hand no so good. I'll go back but I will refuse to have a male do my nails again only females from here in out. I thought I'd try something different then the acrylic nails and try the shallic polish instead but I think I should stick to the acrylic nails instead as they look a lot better then what they look like now. Well, I used to love this place. Yesterday was a different story. We were put in chairs and was told someone would be with us. Then 4 people got seated and serviced before us. Two had appts which was understandable. Then the other two got serviced we thought they had appts. So while our feet sat in cold a lady came over and explained that our names got skipped. So you would have thought they would have offered a free nail design or $ off next service. Nope just a sorry you got forgotten about for 30mins. Took my wife here for a pedicure. She talked me into getting one too since I never had before I figured why not, I needed to trim my toenails anyway. Overall the experience at the salon was good. They seemed to know what they were doing for most of it, until they got to my big toenail. It ended up getting infected and swollen for several days later and oozed puss. Very painful to walk on and not cool. Turned me off of pedicures forever. 2 stars because at least my wife enjoyed hers. Read Less

The incompetent employee used by far way too much glue other nail places won't even remove it because of the excess glue the fake nail ripped my real nail completely off and they to deny liability. Worst service I have ever received in my whole life!!! I asked for simple daisies to be painted on my big toes and the nail lady did a horrible job so I asked her to remove the design and just leave them a solid color. The nail lady did not want to remove the design and started yelling at me. It was beyond uncomfortable! My daughter stood between the nail technician and me and proceeded to tell the woman to stop yelling at me. The nail lady proceeded to scream at my 17-year-...old daughter telling her to shut her mouth. All of the staff in the place just stared at us and the OWNER!!! Refused to come over to diffuse the situation. The nail lady did not complete my pedicure and then proceeded to charge me for the it! When I told the owner that I was not going to pay the full amount for a pedicure that was not completed the owner told me that she had to check the video tapes. When they checked the video tapes they saw that a pedicure that was supposed to last 40 minutes only lasted 26 minutes and said that instead of charging me $30 they would charge me 20. They should not have charged me a penny. I cannot believe how bad the service was. I have never encountered anything like this in my life. Another one of the employees said that this was common at this place of business. To top it off the nail lady scrub my leg so hard that she ripped my skin open. they're service is horrible. last time, I waited an hour and a half to get a simple fill in and my friend wanted a set. we got there first and then some girls who came in behind us got to go before us. when we asked what was going on, they said the girls were getting their feet done only (like that mattered?). but then after their pedicure, the girls exclaimed they needed other work done too while their toes were drying and went before us to get manicures also. absolutely ridiculous. the woman at the front desk was extremely rude also. it's a beautiful place and the service when getting your nails done is decent, but learn how to prioritize your time with your customers. Arrived at 6 with no appointment & was at a pedicure station within a few minutes.  I was out, complete with  shellac manicure and pedicure (and removal of shellac from previous manicure) in one hour and fifteen minutes.  Quinn was very friendly and did an excellent job.  The receptionist was also very friendly and professional. The salon appearance was clean, up to date, and nicely appointed.  I also liked the wide variety of shellac colors available.  I will definitely go back. Read Less

We had our nails done here before a wedding. I just had a plain manicure. My nail tech asked me multiple times if I wanted shellac. He then asked me multiple times who was paying. I had to ask him to fix a nail that wasn't evenly polished. When I went to dry my nails, he brought my jacket. He held it like it was something really disgusting. The mother of the bride tried to pay for everyone at once, and they wouldn't let her. She was paying in cash, but they wanted her to pay for each girl separately. Place seemed clean. Visiting South Bend with my best friend and wanted a good mani pedi. Not many choices in South Bend, but convinced we found the best. It's in a somewhat seedy shopping strip, but once you walk in you see a gorgeous spa. It's huge place, not sure I'd go there on a Saturday. Angela was my technician and she was awesome! She was pleasant, gentle and thorough. My feet were so soft after! My friend did not have as good an experience, however. We were there at the end of the day and she felt rushed through.
