I had a $70 full set of gel nails put on Friday afternoon. THE VERY NEXT MORNING a nail FELL OFF-NOT CHIPPED BUT FELL OFF!! I called and of course the girl that did my nails was not there. They did have another tech repair the nail. All good til about 3 hours later when ANOTHER nail FELL OFF- AGAIN NOT CHIPPED BUT FELL OFF!! OK NOW the salon is CLOSED and my doing is Sunday!!! GREAT! I was so excited for this day but it was totally not what I expected. It was cool that they let me pick and choose the services I wanted. First, I had a facial and hot oil wrap appointment. When I found out I had to lay naked on the table totally exposed I refused because that’s just the kind of person I am. However, Lily made me totally comfortable and accommodated my modesty. We cancelled the oil wrap and upgraded to a vitamin C facial. It was absolutely amazing. The 2 star...s go to Lily. Everything else was disappointing. The put me in a “room” waiting in a chair in my tiny thin robe, with no clothes on, feeling completely uncomfortable. There are people walking back and forth, in and out, right in my private space. I couldn’t tell who worked there and who were clients. Then I get called for my massage. She went over everything that would be happening, I told her to be as rough as possible, and it was the most awkward supposed 60 minutes ever. She massages over a sheet and blanket for probably half the time, the other half was spent covering and uncovering sections to softly massage. It was like getting a massage from my 7 year old. Then she massages my face to 10 minutes after I just got an awesome facial. That time could have been spent on my shoulders. I needed a deep tissue massage not a soft once over. She had me turn over and the table was so hard my back hurt more after the massage then before. It just wasn’t good. Then I got dressed, had a terrible lunch, got a pedicure, then hair. I just moved to town and Vanis was recommended by a coworker's wife. The stylist was great! It's not a cheap salon, but the service was wonderful. I read reviews before posting this one...Someone commented on "client stacking" which I can't understand. While I was there, getting highlights, of course the stylist put other people in there! Why should she wait an hour doing nothing while the dye sits on my head. Anyway, the wash and head massage was awesome. The stylist listened to me and I ended up with a great 'do. They didn't push me to buy products at the end, which I appreciated. I do agree that we should be able to tip on the credit card (or they should ask if you want to add a tip!), but that's my only complaint. From now on I'll bring small bills with me. Read Less

I received a massage as a gift and the experience was so wonderful that I will make a point of returning to Vanis Salon and Day Spa. The staff was friendly and very pleasant. I been going to Vanis for almost 5 to 6 years now. I love stylists and the attention. My only complaint is the new washing bowls they just got. Im a bigger person and those bowls are for skinny people. When you sit down the handles dig in your hips and because you really cant sit properly the washing bowl hits you in a weird way. I am suprise that they wouldn't had realized that and had done something sbout it already. Specially knowing they have customers that are average size and larger. I have been to all of the Vanis locations & I am beyond impressed time & time again! There are so many fabulous hair stylists, makeup artists, & overall talented, wonderful people at every single location! I do want to talk about my wedding day experience with Vanis!!! I had a very big bridal party & without hesitation, Vanis in Crown Point shut down in the morning for the girls to have plenty of space, comfort, & fun! The staff even had the cutest breakfast bar set up with a... sign that said "Courtney's Day. Congratulations from the Vanis Staff!" with fruit, coffee, muffins, & more! It was a special touch that wasn't necessary, but it was greatly appreciated! THEN to even try to begin to explain how much I loved my hair & makeup would be an understatement. Brittani, my hair stylist, has become a friend during the whole wedding process. She did my blow out for my engagement photos, my trial braid, & then my braid on the day of the wedding & I became more & more impressed as we went! If you are looking to do ANYTHING with your hair, ask for Brittani because she is the best!! All in all, I will forever & always be a customer at Vanis & could never say thank you enough for making my wedding day even more special! Is client stacking still a thing? My 74 year old mom had to sit with wet hair while another client was taken from start to finish. When paying more than Chicago prices, I would expect more. I enjoy a salon that doesn't greedily double book. It's much more relaxing and shows they respect you and your time. I suppose the other person was more important. There is definitely a snob culture there that is promoted from the top down. Also, who doesn't accept tips via credit card in this day? I'm sure the sylists lose a lot of tip money because not everyone carries cash. Read Less
