Please read this entire train wreck: I want to preface this review by stating that the massage I received from Gina was wonderful. She was great, and the staff working the front desk was also exceptionally kind. However. This is by far my WORST experience with any public service ever. As I was being walked back to the massage area, I was greeted by an overwhelming smell of sewage and sulfur. The lady walking me back said “so sorry it smells horrible. They’re working on the pipes.” Okay? So I waited in a crappy-smelling room until it was my time. Thankfully, my massage therapist was quick and took me to my room. Before I could even get undressed, the men working on the pipes started making loud noises. When my massage began, i could hear all of them walking on the roof above me (not very relaxing). Then they came down to BANG ON THE BACK DOOR of the building (chipping ice removal or something) - all talking and yelling to one another over the noise. I tried to ignore it and enjoy my massage anyway. It wasn’t even 20 minutes in when those same three men OPENED THE DOOR TO MY MASSAGE ROOM WHERE I WAS NAKED ON THE BED. These men, without knocking, entered the room in which I was exposed. My massage therapist apologized several times, and I felt bad for her because these guys had been ruining her customers’ experience as well as her tips. But after that, I was over it. Between the smell of poop, loud noises, and 3 random men seeing me exposed... I was ready to be finished. I had mentioned to my massage therapist that I would like to speak to the owner after. call me crazy, but I wanted some sort of compensation. Before I left my room, she had already gotten the owner. So as I walked out, I was greeted by a nasty stare. This woman treated me so badly- the worst I’ve ever been treated by a business “professional.” Without even standing to meet me or introduce herself, she sat far behind the desk and made me explain myself in front of not just the staff, but everyone in the nails area and the salon area. I wasn’t looking for a fight, so I was so respectful. I started by saying that I was “disappointed with the environment” and I went on to explain how the area smelled like sewage. She snarked back “but you chose to have the massage anyway.” So I went on about the loud noises, to which she was incredibly rude and offered the same answer again. She went on to be very rude and defensive. When I told her that I was exposed to 3 strange men during my massage she said (and I wish I was kidding) “well, it wasn’t anything my employee did, so I don’t understand why you’re telling me” “it’s not like I can sue the plumbers.” SERIOUSLY. When I mentioned how shocked I was at her attitude, she said (and again, I QUOTE) “okay. So what do you want me to do about it? What are you asking? Instead of complaining, just tell me what you want.” Then this nasty actually acted like she was doing me a favor by returning my gift card to me. Then, she left without saying goodbye or anything- just stood up and left. As you can imagine, I left feeling anything but relaxed. I have never ever been treated so poorly by a professional. I’m easy going - I don’t complain just to complain. But this? This is unacceptable. DONT EVER GIVE THIS NASTY LADY YOUR MONEY. I went here with a friend recently. We had booked appointments to get shellac manicures and arrived on time to be greeted with a lobby full of employees and awkward stares -- instantly uncomfortable. To make matters worse, neither of our ladies we had doing our manicures were really up to par... both manicures were bumpy and I can see my natural nail through the paint. I was charged extra for "nail art" that was literally just glitter put on one nail. The manicures weren't anything as described on the website as far as a soak/massage/etc and had no spa feel at all... Oh, one more thing! The girl who was doing my friends' nails literally asked her if she liked the color that she had chosen, with that my friend responded yes... Let me get started by saying, if you enjoy being bullied and criticized then this is the place for you. The owner of this establishment is rude beyond belief and will make fake Facebook accounts to stalk you and give her business fake reviews, if you leave a bad review on her business Facebook page. I’m not sure either the attitude of the owner or just the way they does not appreciate the business and can’t even give a formal apology when someone ran into random rooms where there’s customers are in there and not even have a good environment. The owner of this shop decided to make a FAKE account to try and justify her actions that she made towards a friend of mine. She was rude and unprofessional. Yes my friend knew of the construction going on, but a few construction workers WALKED IN on her getting a job. I just had a friend go there recently and the staff was super nice however she had a construction walk in on her mid massage and when she confronted the owner about it, she treated the situation like no big deal and nothing was her problem and literally couldn't be more unsympathetic or rude and this is not the first time I've heard from someone about the owner being rude. No one wants to sit in a room for a "relaxing" massage only to smell fecal matter the entire time. Rather than posting a sign on the door or even letting clients know so they can reschedule their appointments, she's still open for business during this time and making her employees work around this all day long. The plumbers walked in on the massage therefore leaving her exposed and they should know the regulations of the place and know that privacy is very important. Instead of apologizing to my friend, she made her feel bad for still having the massage done. The owner is a c*nt and needs to be shut down. Read Less

I chose Pure Emerald based on positive reviews and they didn't falter. From the moment I booked the appointment, leaving a note regarding the grayish - green color I was left with at my old salon, the receptionist from Pure Emerald called to have me arrive early for a consult. That alone, started my experience out on a positive note. Ali and Kaleigh were wonderful. Great personalities and they both took the time to explain what can be done, which I wanted a completely different color rather than try to correct the bad color. Need a mani/pedi? Don't attempt to book with Emerald Salon. Apparently they only have two people on staff and they never work. Not sure why they even offer manicures and pedicures if they don't have the staff to support the service. Very disappointing. Read Less

Pretty fair prices for how nice it is! Mom and I did side by side pedicures - amazing! 30 minute massages were incredible! Manicures were ok...I paid $10 more for French tips and they were sloppy - not worth an extra $10. Receptionist was kind of confused with what I wanted when I first called and I thought I was being pretty clear, so at the last minute they had to switch some things around. Overall it was a great experience! I'm picky because I also work at a Salon and Spa :). I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family! Read Less

I'm from out of town and had time to pamper myself and that is exactly what Pure Emerald did. Beth gave me a fabulous massage, I wasn't sure how I was going to get up. From my knowledge employees are taken advantage of in anyway possible for this company to make a buck. I know multiple unhappy employees complaining about wages being taken and losing clients due to bad management. There are better ran spas in the area, who I would much rather give my business too. I waited to review until I had two visits. This review is for hair services only and impression of salon as I have not had a chance to try any of the other services (but would really like to go back for reike or massage). I have seen Alyssa twice now for color, cut, and eyebrow wax. The first time was 6 weeks ago when she did a pretty intense color job taking me from a not so flattering "ombré" blonde to all over dark with some nice bright pieces. It was 3 hours of work and totally worth it. We didn't do a cut at that time. I later got a bad layered hair cut elsewhere. So last night when I went back, we enriched the dark color, put in some great lowlights, and she gave me an awesome haircut blending some of the bad layers I had from before. I will continue to see Alyssa for my color and cuts, and brow waxing. I will only go elsewhere if she ever leaves, so Emerald better do themselves a favor and make sure they keep her. This young woman will be a master stylist before long. The rest of the staff I have encountered are professional and friendly. The young lady who washed my hair yesterday gave me the best scalp massage; completely relaxing!Furthermore, the salon is very nice with the exception of the poor lighting inside. The lighting is not sufficient enough or flattering, especially when it comes to viewing (especially) the finished color jobs. I actually have to go stand by the window or go outside to get a better idea. Overall 4 stars with room to grow to 5. Read Less

Very unorganized- They called within the hour of my appointment twice to change the time and stylist. When I got there they changed everything on me again and I had to wait 35 minutes even though I had an appointment. Then when they were dying my hair, they ran out of the mixture told me that they were going to have to do some "experimenting." First of all, they should have checked to make sure that they weren't going to run out of the dye and second they definitely should have not told me that they were going to experiment on me when I was paying $100+ to get my hair done. My cut was ok and I also got a deep conditioning (didn't notice much of a difference).  So I was willing to go back based on that.  However, I used the restroom there and the restroom was very dirty (not dirty like you expect a restroom to be dirty....but DUSTY).  The back of the toilet had a thick layer of dust on it...which leads me to believe it doesn't get cleaned much.  Also, while sitting at my stylists seat the counter in front of me was again COVERED in dust.  The floor was pretty dirty too.  In my opinion, to make your place seem more "high" end, you need to do simple things like dusting.  I am still debating on whether I keep my next appointment or not.  Being new to the area, I am having a tough time finding a stylist I like and can stick with. Don't think I'll be going back here. I'm having a really hard time finding someone who can do highlights and a decent cut in this area. I've seen Brooke at Emerald 3 times. The first time was good, she dyed my hair brown and it looked great and this was a huge departure from my normal look- I've been blonde my whole life and got sick of the upkeep of highlights so I went brown for the first time and loved it. Since then I went back to highlights. I had them done twice at Emerald. Both times she did not get close to the roots so that the next day when I went to pull my hair back I had a HUGE "halo" of dark dark roots. It looks like I did it myself.  There is like an inch or more of roots when I pull my hair back (which I do a lot).  Aside from the botch highlights there are a few other things I noticed that make me not want to come back there. They apparently merged with another salon in town so a lot of their clients from the salon they merged with come in and bring their three kids who run a muck around the hair cut area. This has been on every occasion I have been in and with what appears to be different clients. Not exactly the experience I am looking for when I go in for two hours to get my hair done.  Another time one of their stylists was sitting at her own station giving herself a blowout. I thought that was really unprofessional.  My aunt used to get her hair done at Emerald and she told me that when the merger happened the three best stylists they had left and opened their own place. Maybe that explains the lack of quality. I'm upset because they have a really good product line in house (Davines) that I fell in love with when I would get my hair done in Chicago before I moved here. So I may continue to purchase the products from here but I'm not sure I will be back to have anything else done.  Really they should deliver more for a whopping $170 cut and color. Read Less

Took yhe day off to get a massage. The therapist was late. When I arrives the receptionist was on the phone and never acknowledged my presence! I waited for about 2 minutes before another employee came around the corner and asked if I needed help. Good massage, but the room was cold!Therapist attempted to warm it up, but that didn't work. I have lived in Chicago and Miami where you can easily do some research online and find an awesome hair stylist.Whenever I'm in South Bend and need a haircut or color, making an appointment at one of the salons is always a gamble, but last time I was home, I finally found someone who has now secured my confidence-- Jessica at Emerald Cut!She spent time discussing with me what I wanted and could do given my budget- she was very honest about the effectiveness of different services.  She did an amazing job-- I have never been a huge fan of my hair until she styled it for me.If you're looking for a new stylist, I highly recommend going to her!
