Just had my second visit to this salon and saw Erica again. I couldn't be happier! The staff are all so welcoming and warm, and the waiting area is by far THE most comfortable that I've experienced at a salon. You can sit in comfy chairs or at little tables with some coffee. Most importantly, I'm SO pleased with my hair. Erica gave me a cut which looks fantastic despite the fact that I am growing my hair out and am at the awkward, in-between phase. Highly recommended. I recently had a cut/color done by stylist Hannah Young, and I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for great care and an extremely talented hairstylist. Hannah took the time to go over questions with me and address any concerns I may have had before making a drastic transformation and cutting (and donating) 12 inches of my hair! She made me feel so welcomed and exudes nothing but positivity. You can immediately tell she loves what she does and that alone made me feel... like I not only was in good hands, but she was going to do everything in her power to make this the best experience she could. And she more than succeeded! By the end of our time together, we were already planning the next visit! She took time out of her busy schedule and demonstrated different techniques and how to style my new look as well as what products she recommended. She even addressed my scalp issues of some dandruff (in private) and never made me feel awkward or uncomfortable and she sent me home with some product to try, asking I give feedback and if I wasn't happy with the results to return it. Hannah Young is amazing! :) I have very thin curly hair and have been to many hairstylist all who tell me what great hair I have. Theses other stylists cut it, curl it, and style it and it looks adorable. Then I go home and try to make my hair look cute and it never worked until I started seeing Hannah. Thats because Hannah has taken extra time with me to go over styling techniques and telling me which products she prefers with my hair. (I know that she also does this my friends that see her.) I appreciate how considerate she is of my looks. She really took the time (like 2-3 visits) to get to know me and my hair before doing anything drastic. Kara Fullington is absolutely wonderful! This was my fist appointment at Appearances. Everybody is SO friendly, and there is a very nice waiting area with coffee and tea. I wasn't sure about who I should ask to have an appointment with, so I just went with the next available. It couldn't have worked out better! Kara made sure she completely understood what I wanted before we got started. She cut about 14 inches off and continuously gave me styling hints and techniques while cutting. One of my biggest pet peeves at hair salons is having to wait for an extended period of time past my appointment time, the first time ever walking in here I knew that would most likely not be an issue and I was blown away at the friendly front desk staff and how quickly I was in the back for my appointment the day of (I arrived about 10 min. early and Erica was actually already ready and waiting on me--really appreciated that customer service!) I went to a hair care/tips & tricks party recently & loved Erica's demeanor, knowledge and explanation of hair techniques and products so much that I booked an appointment with her and she did a FANTASTIC job on my hair! Appearances is large, but has a welcoming environment that I like much better than the other major salon in town. They allow a little more time for appointments, so it does not feel like a hair factory where you're processed as quickly as possible.  I've only seen two stylists here, but I've been happy with both and they seemed happy to be working there too.  Makes a difference. This place needs to advertise more as is has a very low profile.  Turn south at Culvers on west Wabash and it is at the end of the street. Read Less

Cara was my hairstylist for over a year before I moved out of state, and she was awesome! The receptionists are always friendly and welcoming, and the salon has better prices than BJ's Salon which is where I used to go for many years before switching here. Funny enough, the founder of Appearances is the "B" from BJ's (they split years ago), that's what Cara told me anyway. So the two salons are very similar in quality, atmosphere and pricing though Appearances has better prices on certain things and people there seem friendlier.Never got any other services here though so I can't rate anything else besides the receptionists and the hair services. She works at 6th str. appearances and she knows how to cut hair. I have looked and searched for a hair stylist for years and finally found her!! I recommended my sister to go to her and she liked her too. My neice and 17 year old daughter goes to her now!! I like the ambience of the salon and she is soooo good!! I feel confident knowning she knows what she is doing and I can trust her judgement regarding my hair - my hair is in her hands - and that means a lot to me!! Go and check her out!! she is great!
