Save your money and do not come here. They say one price online when you book, then charge you more when you go to check out. Your colorist will not spend time with just you. They heard you in and out like cattle. They are working on a ton of other people at the same. This place only cares about making money. Your hair will not turn out how you wanted it to at all. After over-charging, they then make you dry your own hair unless you want to pay more to have someone dry it. I am a single mom and just don't have a lot of money to spend on extras but the people who do my hair here are magnificent artists.  I get my color done by Lucca. I just tell him to do whatever he feels and it is always so amazing. I walk around and get compliments for weeks. He is the master. I wish I could go more often, but I certainly would never go to someone else now after getting my color by the best. Then I go over to Jennifer who is awesome. She is just honest and fantastic and I like my hair kind of long and she does the most amazing job. Like I said, she is a magnificent artist. I could never 'cheat' on her by going somewhere else.  I scrimp and save and walk in and get treated like a princess. This is not a spa. The outside is dirty and creepy. It has crumbling cement, peeling wrought iron and it is poorly landscaped. They had dead Christmas greenery in pots till Easter. The bathroom is tight, narrow and dark and you have to stand sideways to get into a stall. They offer beverages, but the hot water for tea is always tepid and the 'real' sugar needs to be poured into the tea cup. There are no spoons to measure. Only the 'fake' sugar comes in packets. None of this is spa-like. And the wifi is non-existent. And they always sound surprised when I say I couldn't access the internet. Other people have the same problems with wifi including the employees. And of course the prices keep going up without more amenities. I continue to go because I love my stylist and colorist, but I resent paying spa prices at the dump that is Mario Tricoci. Read Less

My fiance had purchased me a spa gift certificate and I was so excited to use it to kick-start my beauty-regimen for my upcoming wedding.  I have been coming to Mario Tricoci since I was a kid so it only made sense that I would pay a little bit extra to have my services here!  Until my experience last week - WOW has Mario's really gone down.I changed into my robe and slippers and was very cozy and was feeling relaxed - I arrived 30 minutes early to settle in and enjoy the spa waiting room but was a little turned off when Dorthy took me 10 minutes late.  I thought, no big deal - these things happen!  But then all the little things began to add up.  I got in the room and was immediately greeted with "sign this waiver".  Apparently you have to sign a waiver before your service which is standard, but I felt like this should have been given to me in the waiting room rather than wasting time out of my facial plus feeling rushed to sign something that I don't have a lot of time to read.  It was a turn off, but I let that slide too.  Once I got on the table Dorothy asked me what I was looking to improve and I just said a general facial, brightened skin - just the usual to kick start my routine as I don't have any acne problems or any real problems with my skin.  She goes "OK, I do Oxygen Facial on you - $145."..  I am used to spas trying to upgrade you so I kindly said that my fiance had booked my services and I really wasn't looking for anything too intense, just the basic facial is fine for today.She tries again......"OK I'll do x facial, $25 more, you'll pay extra", and I said again, no...that's ok.  I'll stick with what I have.  For her third remark, she goes "Basic, basic, why you want so basic?  You need x facial to see results.  We do this." I say no - again and feel insulted.  So my basic $100 facial doesn't give me results, why am I getting it then?  I have had many of the regular facials with extractions that have shown wonderful results.  At this point, I was not even close to relaxed and almost walked out of the room.  I get your upsell methods but don't ask me over and over again and then make me feel cheap for not upgrading.  As she was doing the extractions, she did about 10 of them - that was the part I was wanting the most.  They HURT,  and believe me, I used to work at a spa and they never hurt like she was hurting.  She goes "see, its hard to do extractions with this type of facial, you need to upgrade".  As if that experience wasn't bad enough, I look at my watch and the facial ends at 2:55.  Please note that she called me into the room at 2:10, by the time I was finished signing the waiver and getting under the covers it was close to 2:20.  Did I really just pay for a 35 Minute massage?I go back into the spa room to wait for my massage, wanting to walk out because I was anything but relaxed and wanted to speak with someone but was in a robe.  I had scheduled the massage for "immediately following the facial" but waited 30 minutes.  I had to walk to the front of the reception desk in my robe and slippers to ask if they had forgot about me because I had a reservation scheduled after my spa services.  She gave me some rude comment and said that it the way I scheduled it.  I didn't.  As a side comment, I I had to go to the bathroom very badly so I am waiting for in front of the one person bathroom stall, after 2 minutes I knock and nothing, 4 minutes knock and nothing.  It is now 7 minutes (I am counting every minute at this point with my services being late) and a employee had to knock loud on the door before the woman darts out of the bathroom - it was the same receptionist.  I'm pretty sure that if there is only one bathroom in the spa area, an employee shouldn't be in it for 7 minutes.Finally I get serviced by Michelle who did a great job for my massage, no complaints there.I go to pay and my bonus certificate apparently wasn't valid (it was one of those where you spend so much and get a bonus).  I didn't make a fuss because at that point, I'm not coming back.  I left a decent tip which I now regret doing because Dorthy did NOT deserve it.  After my facial my face was shiny but at home I was doing more of my own extractions and a day later it doesn't look any different.Sad to see a place I loved so much for years turn to crap.  I was looking forward to using Mario's for my services prior to my wedding and on my wedding day with my bridal party. Lack of attention to detail & true customer service. Had my hair colored at this location, b/c Mario won't let the colorist I love, that works at the downtown location, come out to a suburbanan location to service her clients that can't spend an hour+ going into the city. Also if they truly practiced customer service they would want to ensure that the color came out as expected & to satisfaction & offer to blow dry ur hair for you! They don't. From what I observed at this location, they never set any timers. So my 3 minutes set, judging from the fact that the same song was playing when they washed it out as when they put it in, was maybe 90 seconds. So it ended up needing to be redone after I had blown it dry myself! And I had to go track down the colorist to do it. They never put anything on my hairline/very upper forhead to protect the skin from getting stained, so now I have a dye line there. They rubbed my hair when towel drying which gives you snarls, break hairs & just generally doesn't feel nice. And they must use fabric softener on their towels b/c they absorb nothing. I went into get my hair touched up cover up some gray and match it to hair extensions the girl who did my hair job did a beautiful job..... she matched it up perfectly and the lady who did my hair it looked like someone you'd see on TV or on the movie the way she styled her hair it was just amazing...... it was money well spent and it was all under $100.... but I noticed that not all my gray got covered I went back next weekend and the woman who did my hair re-did it free of charge and believe it or not she made my hair look even better than it did last week they are truly amazing take the time and effort to make you look good its worth going to this place.....I strongly suggest going there and you tell them what you want and they can do it Read Less

And to need a touch up less than two weeks later because she used hair dye instead of bleach for my roots was naive of me to think that that would work. I'd definitely recommend setting an appointment with Jordan for a cut but the management and Luca (colorist) left much to be desired. Back in November I was in a bridal party that had hair and makeup done at the Schaumburg location and had a great experience! My hair was done by Brooke who was very nice and managed my (thick, curly) hair with ease in an updo. The woman who did my makeup was also very pleasant - but cannot recall her name. Overall, of you plan on having hair and makeup done for an event, be prepared to spend some $$. The nice thing about the makeup application is either you spend $65/airbrush, or you buy $90 (always a bit more) on products and fee is waived.Now, I was given over for a friend which gives you $20 off any salon or spa service for my friend. Before my birthday I decided to schedule a facial as well as a hair appointment (my long hair was needing it!). The hair appointment with Brooke was great! She is very pleasant and works quickly despite my long and curly hair. Now the facial is the reason this location is not getting five stars. In my past experiences, when you book a spa service that says it will be 75 minutes, the service typically at least runs close to that time. I got there 20 mins early as suggested to change into the spa robe/facial towel and relax a bit in the spa room. The room is nice enough, couches/tables and a fireplace with some light refreshments while you wait. It becomes less relaxing when you wait in there 35 mins because your technician is 20 mins late. Guiliana was very apologetic when she did finally come and get me explaining one client set her off by the 20 mins. This would be forgivable had she not shorted me by 25 mins when she ended my treatment 5 mins before the scheduled end time. (I also must say, extractions are typically done with a tool...not pinching someone's nose between your thumbs) Customer service: When I asked about the service ending early, I was told "some technicians work at a quicker pace than others" by the front desk attendant. Later I called to speak with a manager, talked to Lana, explained my experience and she was very apologetic explaining she was surprised by the shortened service as well as the front desks explanation. She immediately offered to send a gift certificate for the amount I paid for the treatment so I could apply that to any service I prefer. I've been using Mario Tricoci in Scahumburg just occasionally, as I have other hair salons in this area where I get services more frequently.  This time I got a hair cut and highlighting and a massage at this Mario Tricoci, and it has been a quite satisfying experience. My hairstylist, whose name was Gia, did a good job on my hair.  (And I'm a quite a picky customer as for my hair.  And so, here are my kudos to Gia.)  I also got a Swedish massage and a body butter treatment.  It was so relaxing and invigorating.  I cannot exactly remember my masseuse's name, but it might have been Kim, who had a good comfortable way with her hands.  I'll definitely try to book them again for my future visits. Overall, I would recommend this hair salon and spa to anybody.  They have good skillful staffs and nice amenities.  You will rarely be disappointed. Read Less

This is review is for a massage only. Let me say I have visited at least 5 different Mario locations and have gotten a massage at each one. My normal location Old Orchard was booked and I am pregnant in my third trimester and was in desperate need of a massage.I called Mario Customer Service before I booked and asked the team member to read the notes on the massage therapists so that together we could pick the right one. I was getting a pregnancy massage but I asked for someone capable of giving a deep tissue. Meaning I just wanted a little more pressure in my back, neck and shoulders. They assured me that Bernadette would be an excellent massage therapist and would give me a great deep tissue in the back, neck and shoulders.From the beginning she had no pressure. Very, very weak. I felt like I was getting a massage from my little niece.  She apologized the whole time telling me " I am sorry I am giving you all I got" I was so disappointed. I am a Mario Plus member and this is my 5th pregnancy massage at Mario. She even told me that she cant do it and most people cannot give you more pressure when you are pregnant. Completely untrue because much smaller woman at other Mario locations have given me some great pressure during my  pregnancy massage sessions.As I left I told the check out person how terrible my massage was I know Mario does not have a money back guarantee but seriously I did my research and as a frequent Mario visitor I would think they would offer something. First time in for a massage and wow! Feels like I'm in heaven. This was so needed especially when I haven't had a massage in almost 3 years. The last one was probably in 2013. These past few months my entire upper body has been so sore and tense so the 50 minute Swedish massage ($78) to myself sans baby felt so wonderful with the relaxing music and in the background and the aromatherapy smells. I also got the Body butter upgrade ($11) and it felt so moisturizing. When it was all done, I didn't want to leave. From now on, this is all I want. I had Kim as my massage therapist and she was wonderful. I will find my way back here again! Giving 4 out of 5 is only because I was a 1st time customer so I didn't know my way around the spa, and I felt like the ladies could show me a bit more or give me instructions to make me feel more comfortable. Unethical superficial dump!If you're into the whole classy atmosphere, watching anneroxic chicks with strange hair that look like they belong in a Tim Burton movie walk around, or extremely metrosexual or gay men give attitude and nothing more.. then this would be for you.. Rude inconsiderate stylists, unethical managers, shady business practices, over priced & over profited dump this place truly is.My story goes, I was scheduled to have my hair colored at the Old Orchard location. I showed up on time, only to discover that my stylist went home for the night and NOBODY even bothered to contacted me because " it was a very busy day", according to management. Funny, when I got there there was only a handful of people but okay.. I asked to speak with the coloring manager ( orange hair chick), and she did not seem to care, and nobody else was available to do my hair, except some guy who had extremely much higher prices (75% higher to be exact) then what I am use to paying. It wasn't my fault that the stylist went home early so why do I get stuck paying for another stylist whose prices are significantly higher and Mario's wouldn't cover the difference. I left work early to sit in traffic to get there just to turn around and leave, again nobody cared, no compensation/gift card/complimentary service or nothing! I did contact their customer service hotline, and again nobody really cared, all you hear is " I'm sorry, that wasn't right of her, come back again and use someone else, thanks for calling". Click. Anyway, I wound up going to Hair Cuttery down the street and guess what they are a lot cheaper, and much more down to earth atmosphere. Nobody would ever even know the different either! I went for my 3rd highlight. I didn't request the same colorist as she did an (okay-good job) last time; I thought maybe I'd have a great job this time. WRONG. I have dark brunette hair (level 4) & wanted to maintain a highlight to about a 7R. I knew in the consultation she just wasn't getting it when all she asked me about was "so you want to go brighter" What the heck does that mean? Well, I found out the wrong way. She turned me into a blonde, which didn't look nice with my complexion. The foil must have leaked because I have blotchy spots.She put on 2 separate toner applications. It helped, but definitely NOT what I wanted for $175 later. I went to a family graduation party, and alot of people didn't even recognize me saying - You're blonde now". The staff is snobby and rude. The stylists are average at best. And as a bonus you get to blow out your own hair at a station after the cut and color. No matter what your new cut is they will not help you style it. The best part is that this blow out station is in the middle of a heavily walked isle so all eyes are on you and you are made to feel that you are in the way once they have rinsed you out. I came to see MAYA because my friend goes to her so she told me to give her a try... I have very hard hair to style and everywhere i went for a haircut they never teach me how to do it at home.. I went to see Maya on Monday she spent a hour with me talking to me about my hair and why i hate it soo much so when we got to the haircut she told me step by step what she was going to do and she showed me the products i should use. WOW all i kept thinking is this girl is really good. When we got done she told me they way she styles my hair i would be able to do the same at home. I have curly hair, and I wanted it trimmed and straightened. My hair curly is at my shoulders. My hair straight is down to the middle of my back (or so it was). They first put me with a guy who didn't even have a flat iron!!!! Bree straightened my hair, but as she was "trimming", she cut it up to my shoulders... ie. she whacked off 8 inches without even knowing!!! The next time I washed my hair, it was up to my chin!!! How could this happen to me at an upscale salon?!!! I pay extra money not for something fancy, but just so someone doesn't screw up a trim and straightening. This has happened to me multiple times, and I can't understand how people could not notice cutting off 8 to 10 inches off of someone's hair!!! This was by far the worst thing that has happened to my hair in my life! I hate the way I look right now.. .I have wires sticking out of my head in a halo, and there is nothing that I can do about it. I was in the salon a few weeks ago and i came across a great stylist maya. I have to tell you guys this was the best haircut i ever had in my life. When this women cuts your hair not only is she talented but she listens to your every word what works for you and what doesn't. I went to Mary Pat for a hair cut and I had a great experience. She was super nice and did a great job! I am requesting her every time I go there now. Plus she new a ton about the cubs which was great conversation. For all you guys out there looking for a good place to get a hair cut at a decent price, I recomend Mary Pat 100%. Plus you cant beat the location right on michigan ave and there is a really nice equinox fitness gym on the same floor so you can work out and get styled up without having to run all over town. I do not recommend this location at all. Most of the Mario's are bad but this location and Pheasant Run take the award for worst in the state. I could not believe how rude the girls at the reception desk were. One girl is supposed to be the manager named Brittany but she just gossiped and behaved rudely to people and then the real gem is Kyle who should probably smile and maybe people wouldn't be so mad at how rude and incompetent she is. My stylist Frankie was horrible. I thought these people go to training before they cut hair but I guess she did not. I thought after the receptionists were rude that it couldn't get worse but my ""stylist"" was worse. She even rolled her eyes when I was talking to her. I obviously didn't talk to her the rest of the cut and just felt like crying. She rushed my blowdry and it was not straight at all. The cut was so bad my husband started yelling at me for letting it happen. We had to pay another $50 bucks to get it redone at another salon. I moved to Naperville ten years ago. I was recommend to this salon by several people as ""a great hair cut"" but, ""you will pay a price"". I am use to paying $65 for a cut and $90 for a color, however I am use to having good customer service at those prices. My experience there was, it is much like a factory. The people who do the work are great in their field, thus the price is high. I was willing to bare the ""price"" of bad service until one day I had enough. The front desk treats you like dirt if you?re not sporting a huge diamond and designer cloths. The people who actually do the cutting and coloring are better but don't look for the traditional bonding while you get your cut and/or color. I left after 8 years of six to eight weeks of cuts and color because; the management seems to favor making money. In this economy I hope they change their management style. A friend gave me a gift certificate to try the salon again and I did within the last month. I was hoping the experience would have been better however?I still have not changed my mind. This place is ridiculous! I recently got highlights there. When I made the appointment the guy on the phone confirmed that the price was $90 for full highlights. However, when I checked out I was told it was 130.00 because prices START at 90.00 and they could not tell me why my highlights were now 40.00 more. My hair is shoulder length, so I'm not buying the excuse that the check out guy said about my hair being longer than most girls. This is just a way for them to rip people off! What really ticks me off about this place is that after my color service, I was passed to someone else who washed my hair and then sent to a SELF SERVE STATION with hair dryers for me to use! I just paid $130 for highlights and I'm drying my hair myself! Isn't this standard to have the stylist dry your hair after you pay for any hair service?! This is the worst salon/spa I've ever been to. I recently got a mani/pedi here by the rudest woman on the planet. It was so difficult making the appointment because you have to call their 800 number a wait forever for a appt. It does look like a factory outlet salon. The staff are so rude and unprofessional. The lady that did my mani wasn't even looking at what she was doing, she was more concerned with gossiping with her co-workers. And she kept coughing in my face! Who would have thought I could get such a great cut while on vacation from Seattle. My stylist was on vacation and unable to do my hair before I left, but I found Brandon whom I want to highly recommend! His style and flair for hair was FABULOUS! When I got back to my families house my mother and two adult sister were so jealous, they made their own appointments with Brandon. Each one having a very different style. My mother came back with a graduated bob and she looks ten years younger. I can't stress enough how amazing our new hair looks. I have natural curly hair and have a hard time finding someone who ""really"" knows what they are doing. i called and FRANKIE was recommended. i told them i wanted a consultation as it was my first time there. i was assured if i came in a little early for my appt i would be able to speak with the stylist, i came in early and she was late. she rushed, had no hair magazines(what kind of salon doesn't have hair magazines), she was so busy running her mouth and telling me how she knew what she was doing that she wasn't listening. she heard bits and pieces put it all together and i ended up with no hair after i told her i was GROWING MY HAIR and only wanted her to clean it up and shape it. NOT CUT IT ALL OFF. on top of cutting it all off it was an ugly mishapen haircut. she did it in like 5 min (NO SKILL). EVERYTHING i told her not to do she did. when i called back to see what could be done as that was a lot of money to throw down the drain (i had to go a few days later to a REAL stylist and get a REAL haircut) i was given the runaround,and told a manager would call me back. well it's been 10 weeks or so and i'm still waiting. now my hair is super short. I'm not in love with how much I spend here but it is worth it because the girl who colors my hair does a fabulous job. My hair is very fine and I have sensative skin and I have never had any problems with the colors bothering my skin. And, the girl who cuts my hair does a great job. I went to Mario Tricoci for the first time in my life, looking forward to a great new style. I made the appointment on-line (very convenient) and chose first available stylist since I did not have a preference. I was greeted nicely and was told the stylist would be right with me. I waited 20 minutes, no one came so I went back up to the desk to inquire why. Well, the stylist I was suppose to get was cutting and styling someone elses hair. No other stylist was available. I was asked to wait, being told "she works fast". I told them this was not a very good first impression. Feeling very disappointed and a bit angry I decided it might be best if I leave. I didnt know that anybody could ever get a bad facial, but I did today. I checked in at the front desk and the lady just told me to go upstairs. She didnt tell me to go into the spa or anything so I waited outside in a very loud waiting room. Usually when I go to a spa, I am greeted with very nice people and asked to put on a robe or something. This was not the case... When it was time for the facial, I was taken back to a room and asked to get undressed from the waist up. After I got undressed she came in and starting making alot of noise (this was the person that was going to do my facial) . This was just really not relaxing. Next, I was laying there and she put this really bright light right in my eyes, and it was blinding. I ask her if I could remove it, because it was hurting and she didnt do anything. Then after analyzing my face, she tried to sell me their products and basically told me that my dermatologist was wrong in what she prescribed. After all of this the facial began. At first, I felt like she didnt know how to put lotion on my face, because it was really uncomfortable and by this time I wasn't enjoying the special gift that my husband had gotten for me for getting a new job. She took the first layer off and then starting squeezing my blackheads out. THIS HURT SOOOO BAD. I had to ask her to quit. I felt like she ripped off my nose at one point. After this, then everything started to get a little better. The massaging was nice, and I started relax except for the fact that I was right next to the bathroom. I would hear a toilet flushing every 2-3 minutes and people talking outside my room. I was getting so annoyed. Oh and the funny thing was that when I left, the receptionist asked me how it was and said OK (thats it). I guess now I know that OK is all they need to hear to feel good about their services. Yesterday, I had my hair highlighted and cut at the Oakbrook location. I simply love it! I cannot begin to tell you the number of compliments I have received from both women and men. Being a woman of color, I was skeptical about having my hair styled at a salon predominately for Caucasians. In fact, I called in advanced to request a stylist that had experience working with African American hair textures. Both of the women who styled and colored my hair were attentive, courteous, and enthusiastic about offering me a new look. Overrated. Last visit I said I asked for exactly the same highlights as previous visit - but was given a different color! Had to wait in chair for 10-12 minutes waiting for the stylist to arrive and cut my hair...no one offered me a magazine or coffee. No biggie...but when girl arrived she said she has been on break and ""I make sure I take my breaks - the day is too stressful otherwise"". Finally, I asked for bangs. I had an appointment for a 10 minute brow wax, I was told to go upstairs to check in, was checked in, and once I was taken in back I was immediately accosted by a woman telling me that my sleeping daughter was not welcome since I was in the ""quiet zone"". I went to Mario's and saw Gina. She did a better job than any of the high priced salons in California!!!!! She was an extremely nice person as well!!!!
