I first came to River Nails Spa two years ago as a walk in.   I had acrylic nails and always got a pedicure.  I never asked for anyone specific for the first few months. Everyone did a pretty good job.  For acrylics I recommend Kelly who is the owner.  She is 100% about customer satisfaction and will always do her best to work me in when I call her.  She also does a fabulous job at eye lashes.   I had her do them for me on a whim and while in Los Angeles I got so many compliments on the great job.  I moved to Logan Square about a year ago and I still come all the way out here to get my nails done. I was recommended to this nail spa by family. They always have beautiful nails. I walked in and was greeted by someone at the front desk. I was asked what I wanted to do and said I would like a manicure. I asked the price and was told $15 but asked if I wanted gel. I told her no. I inquired about a pedicure as well but I was running short on time so I decided I would come in next weekend to get them done. I picked out a color and was told I may go sit at #12. I was glad that there was no wait. I said hi to the woman who would be doing my nails. She barely acknowledged me the entire time. I tried to make small talk about the spa or my nails and barley got words out of her. I understand that it's not necessary to talk but I thought she should athwart ask what I wanted. I wasn't asked a nail shape(round or square) she cut them down and made them square. It was too late to even change them to round since they had been cut down so much. The entire time we sat in silence. I couldn't understand what was wrong. What she upset that I wasn't doing the gel manicure? Because she did ask once if I would rather do that. I saw other employees talking with customers and smiling. They asked what they wanted done and didn't seemed annoyed or bothered. As she began to put a clear coat over them, I noticed my one nail had excess polish hanging from the edge. I pointed it out to her and she didn't notice anything wrong. I told her it was extra polish on the nail. She cleaned it up with her nail and applied a clear polish over. She had me take my card out before polish was applied. That is understandable. Once she motioned me to sit at the drying area, she took my card and charged it. She came back and gave me the tip receipt and didn't say a word, once again. I tipped her ( which was more than her work deserved) and gave it back to her. She didn't say thank you or anything. I said thank you and she just walked away. I left and as I was walking, I noticed a smudged mark on my nail. I went back in and waited for someone to greet or ask me what I needed. A different lady, Kelly, asked and I advised my nail had a smudged mark and I would like it fixed. She told me I had to be careful with just a regular manicure. Once again, I felt like I wasn't important for them because I was just doing a regular manicure. She calls over the woman who did my nails. Again, she says nothing and starts looking for the nail polish. She had put away and now could not recall where she put it. She grabbed a nail polish and painted over my nail right there. She didn't take me back to her table and take of the polish and fix it. The polish was not the same. It was darker. The lady then left quickly to go back to her client that was getting fake nails. I waited at the front desk, contemplating what I should do. I was upset that I received such poor service and then given a polish that clearly wasn't the color. Kelly comes back up and I advise her that it's the wrong color. She looks and agrees. I tell her it's fine. At this point I'm frustrated and want to leave. She grabs a few colors and tried to match them to my nails. She takes me to her table and takes the polish off the nail and applies a polish to it. I thank her and tell her that I would like for her to take the tip I left. As I'm leaving I tell her in an even and quiet tone that my first experience was not good and the service I received was bad. She tells me she has 14 workers and sometimes... she just gestured to her head as to say they forget or something. I was baffled that this was the reasoning I was getting for my service and experience. I wasn't asked to come back or even for my money to be refunded. You could clearly see I was not pleased.  I didn't make a scene or anything. I was respectful and understood that bad experiences occur. She had many other clients. I just want my money back. My nail is still the wrong color and now I'm off to a engagement party with one nail being a different color. Read Less

By far, the worst customer service ever. I started going to this place about two years ago. I've always had the same guy do my manis/pedis, but occasionally I would get someone else when he wasn't available. As soon as you walk in, you get merely stared down and don't even get a hello. Recently I went in to get a full set pink and white done. I got some new older woman. I wanted to do gel on the tips but to add star flakes underneath the gel. I showed her pics and even had the manager explain to her how to do it because she didn't speak English. She put the gel on the entire nail and then tried to put the flakes on the top, kind of like a sticker. I told her no that's wrong and she redid it. She did it the same way. I finally said I only have an hour left before I need to go to work and if she can manage to do regular pink and white. She said yes, so i said ok. She started taking off my old no chip gel nails. She never put them in the aluminum foil to remove the polish. She went right in with the machine. The left over gel was flying everywhere because she was going so fast and I told her to slow down because the chips were flying in my face. She finally took everything off and started putting on the pink gel. The gel was atrocious. She didn't put an equal amount of the gel on each nail so I had patches of 3 different shades of pink on each nail. Mind you, I had 20 minutes left before I needed to go. I told her to fix it and she attempted to. Nothing was fixed. She wasn't listening to me at all. I called the manager after I had to leave already and told her I don't like them. The pink wasn't even one color and the white tips were uneven. She rolled her eyes and told me to sit down and wait and I said no because I need to go to work. I told her I'd come back the following day and she needed to fix them because I wasn't going to pay for these. I came back the next day to see the manager and she "fixed" them. She never took off the old gel like she was supposed to. She simply shaved them down and said "wa laaaa". They looked horrible. 5 days after she "fixed" them , the gel started chipping by the cuticles. Absolutely worst service I've been to. && it's simply dirty around the place. I told them that the girls could have what ever they wanted to be done to their nails as long as those were the colors. There was no clear communication from the first person who was told this to the others that were working on my part...y. Every technician looked confused about what to do, even after I offered to go over this again. They began to dismiss me. We wanted to take a group photo of the bridesmaids getting their feet done and asked if one of the technicians would please move, he responded with "I don't have time for that." The same male technician rushed through my bridesmaid's fill in on a full set and continued to be rude. Things only proceeded to get worst. When I showed my technician my nail design she looked hesitant. I told her, "I have another design if this one can not be done. I don't want you to do something you're not confident in." She responded by telling me it was fine. When I sat down for my no chip manicure I told her I wanted the same design in the picture but in yellow, silver and gray. No black. She nodded and began to work. all was okay and quiet for a moment. Until she began painting my nails. She began to paint them black and I pulled my hand away and said: "No black, I want them to be gray." I thought she understood me. she capped the black and continued to work on the yellow and silver part of my nails. She got up and spoke to someone else, came back and attempted to paint my nails black again. I repeated, "I want gray, not black." One of my bridesmaids who was finished came to sit with me and also told the technician not to use black gray was better. At this point the technician told us "The picture has black." and we said, "We know but we want gray polish where the black is. My wedding colors are gray, yellow and white." She painted my nail gray, finally after someone brought over the bottle of gray everyone else was using. She painted one nail gray and held it up to me and my bridesmaid and we both nodded in approval and said yes. The technician then removed the gray and proceeded to paint my nails black. I told her I wanted them gray two more times and was about to get up and storm out when the manager noticed that I was literally the last client in the shop. The manager then came over expressed her apologies and corrected the problem. I spent three hours getting a no chip manicure and pedicure. I have usually had a great result here. This time i wasted $60. The lady did a horrible job. The no chip color didnt cover the nail. When i told her it looks bad she said sorry but thats the color you chose really? Im very unhappy and will not return there. She should of offered another color or some solution. I get all of my mani/pedis here because they do the best job around.The salon is very clean and relaxing with beautiful decor.  I've never experienced a wait of more than 5 minutes and I come at all different times of the day every 3 weeks.  Every person there does a great job with my nails and they take especially good care of my rough skin during the pedicures.  If they're always busy, that means they're really good!My no-chip manicures always last at least 3 weeks because they detail the job so well.  My cuticles are always perfectly done.  I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality mani/pedi. My mom was getting her nail done because one of them broke so she decided to get it redone. The girl redid the nail but cut it way too short. My mom have caught it to her attention on told her. Went in for the 1st time for a pedicure. This place is so near to my house so I decided to give it a try! Worse decision I made!!!! Went in for a pedicure which turned out bad. They didn't even clean the cuticles and they charged me $25. I didn't even have anything special, it was regular nail polish. The service I received I could have gotten better for less money. This place is very nice and clean! They are very nice and do a good job. The problem is that it's so busy that they rush through and you don't get a true pampered pedicure!! They really don't scrub or get the rough areas on the heals etc because again they are ALWAYS rushing! I have never had a problem with any services at this facility. They employees remember you and speak to you as if you are family. I appreciate them. This facility is very clean and sterile. I have never seen dirty towels or stained sinks or even a sink that is a mess with water after several people have washed their hands. They maintain this facility well. Very disappointed!  We made Mothers Day reservations for 6 pedicures at 12:30.  These appointments were made weeks in advance.  We all arrive at 12:30 to be waiting until almost 1:00.  They took us in a back room that had four chairs.  So four out of six of us ended up getting pedicures.  They started on two of us and the other two were left waiting until there were employees that can help out. What got me upset is that they were actually taking walk in's while my sister and I were patiently waiting to be serviced.  After they had taken the walk in's we decided not to get our pedicures as we had lunch reservations.Why make appointments? My sister and I were very disappointed that we did not get pedicures as there was no time.  Before the owner apologized, but said people we coming in for services and he did not want to turn those people away.  He did not offer for us to come back.  It seemed like he was getting annoyed with us.  Very poor customer service  Well you just had 6 people and potential customers that will not be back. I've been here a number of times. I Was originally excited to find what I thought was a decent place in my neighborhood. The first couple questionable experiences I chalked up to a bad day. Today I realized they are just not good. Not friendly, don't try to connect or remember you as a frequent customer, and not clean. Tonight I waited over 30 minutes to get a mani/pedi when they did not seem to be busy. There is no energy in the place and they move at a snails pace. They attempted to give me a pedicure with cold water, after I asked for hot they increased it to tepid, and I asked again to heat up the water. I'm sorry but I look forward to my mani/pedi once every 4-6 weeks and want a good experience. The man that did my nails went to have a cigarette right before and I could smell it the whole time and still smell it on my own hands. I will not return to this place, Id rather travel out of my way then go through the over 2 hour experience for a mani/pedi. Read Less

I decided to try this place out for my daughters 15th birthday. She got a full set and I got a pedicure. The pedicure was awful and the tech names was Anna she was very rude and argumentative throughout the whole service.  The full set was done by Tim and it was great. Prices are not posted so ask in advance. They charge $60.00 for a full set and it was acrylic with chrome polish. and $40.00 for an unfinished pedicure. Thanh is my go-to nail technician and does a great job on my nails! Kelly, the owner, also does an awesome job and is talented with designs. I've been a loyal customer for three years. I visit the salon every two weeks for my pedicures, and regular or no-chip manicures. I recommend scheduling an appointment if you can. Walk-ins are welcome but be prepared to wait during busy times. But she just had this hugh chip on her shoulder... She was just so rude. Horrible service. I refuse to go here again. Went continuously for a few months to the man at the first table on the right (don't remember his name) he did my nails perfectly. He always charged a few dollars differently every time I went in but I didn't mind because of how well they were done. One day I went in to get a regular set put on and they tried to charge me 65$. (My guy was not the one who did them this time) but he did come argue with me that it was 65$ because of length.... even though he had never charged me that price. Great place for a mani pedi!! I would go back. The only thing that could have been improved is not making customers wait for so long. With many chairs, it would be great if they got the water started and let customers wait while soaking. I've been going back over and over again to River Nails Spa after my sister recommended it to me.  They're friendly and I love the atmosphere.  Hidden away in the corner of a huge strip mall in River Grove (highlights: Binny's, Hallmark Gold Crown store, Walgreens).  Has special close parking spots just for their clients.  Decor:  Gorgeous.  Seriously one of the prettiest, classiest nail salons I've ever been to.  My two favorite spots are the cozy waiting area with the leather chairs, fireplace and modern chandelier overhead-- and the "party room"...a little separate room with spa pedicure chairs for birthday, girls' night, bridal parties.  I'd love to use that room sometime with my friends. Hygiene: Better than a lot of places I've been.  Tools are sterilized. Nail service: Pedicures are relaxing.  Comfy massage chairs.  My main event is a no-chip manicure.  You cannot beat the amount of no-chip color options they have-- literally, a 150 choices with matching regular polish if you want your toes to match.  My no-chips last 2-3 weeks, sometimes longer.  I've been going back to Mike the last few times, but all the nail techs are competent.  You know how it is...once you get a good no-chip that lasts three weeks, you want to stick with the same tech.Eyebrow: I've had eyebrow waxing there, and I like it.  I tell them what I want (arched but not parentheses mark, hello) and it's worked out well.  Tried eyebrow tinting once and didn't like it.  Too dark.  Freaked my mom out.  Well, you know it will grow out/ fade with time.  Now I just stick to the waxing.  My favorite eyebrow artist is Vi (pronounced Vee).  There's no place I'd rather go for nails. Clean atmosphere and most are friendly there is one that gives you an impression that you are bothering her ? But everyone else is nice - today they went out of their way to give me a design I wanted . I think that was very nice and I was happy with my outcome.
