I once gave this salon a 5 star rating because the 1st time last year that I visit this place they did a excellent job on my hair. but the last 2 times I received awful customer service. I highly do NOT recommend these stylist, Jen and Kylee because they like to say "we do not have enough time I have another client waiting" even when you booked an appointment. About 2 months ago My 1st Appointment was with Jen. When she lifted my hair and color it, she colored my hair the wrong color, and then the next day when I washed my hair, my hair turned Orange. so I called to book an appointment again and the owner said come in we will do it for free of charge to fix the mistake So I asked for Kylee because the last time she did my hair was Absolutely phenomenal, but unfortunately the 2nd time that I had to go back she gave me horrible customer service and attitude because I came back in for someone that messed up my hair. She rushed on me basically to get me out of the way. Now not Even out of the inconvenience because my appointment didn't have a blow dry kylee didnt blow dry my hair and when I didnt get my hair blow dried the weather that day was rainy and cold so I was outside with wet hair in the cold and rain. Plus I had to wait 15 minutes just for Kylee to tell me "OK we're done" where I could have left 15 minutes ago. I will not be returning back to the salon paying over 100 dollars is so not worth it. I felt like I was conned. I was quoted $150 on the phone and in person for a cut an color. But apparently everything is a la cart because they even charged me for toner which is used to fix color mistakes.  I ended up paying $270.00. I will never go back. Read Less

Raquel is amazing!! She repaired a cut I had by a random. I was afraid I would have to have it chopped bc the last idiot took 6 inches off and it was a horrid blunt mullet wanna be cut! This was my first experience with Chop Shop and what a wonderful surprise!!! The staff was amazing and very thoughtful. I've been in Lansing for most of my life and can kick myself for not checking them out sooner. I read a review stating this was not a safe part of town. I'm not sure which planet she flew in from, but downtown Lansing is a great area and I have never had a problem in 50 years of walking these streets. As far as the prices, they are similar to other salons in the area and none had the attention to detail that my stylist Tracy had. I explained to her what I was looking to accomplish and she went above and beyond! I sent my picture to my friends and family and almost every response was "WOW!!" Thank you Tracy! First haircut at the Chop Shop today and I love it.  I don't know why it took me so long to try this place. Was able to get an appointment within 24 hours! I asked the receptionist to schedule me with a stylist who is good in cutting bob hairstyles. I was taken right on schedule. My stylist, Laura, took time to talk to me about my desired cut and looked at some photographs I had brought in. I had her undivided attention and she nailed the haircut. The three stars are for the super nice attitudes from everyone, the salon's layout, and for the products used on my hair that did not completely fry and damage it. The salon is clean and I love how it's decorated. They offer complimentary wine, beer or water. I came in for my consultation with Raquel in April, I let her know that I wanted to color my natural brown hair to gray and leave my natural color as an over grown root. I asked her if she was comfortable with the project and she said yes and that she had done gray before. I didn't ask her for any pictures I just trusted her because she has an awesome personality and she told me she had many years or experience. My hair was 90% my natural color because I was growing it out for this. I had some blonde on my ends (about two inches) from an over grown ombre I got done 3+ years ago and no dark color. The first time she did my hair it came out dark blue with random streaks of light brown and yellow. My roots looked light brown because of how dark my hair looked. I was so sad and disappointed, Raquel offered to color my roots darker so I scheduled an appointment. When I went home I realized the new hair color was just too dark so I cancelled the root appointment. The owner called and offered to have my hair fixed, she was so nice. Everyone in the salon was super nice and helpful. I went back to have my hair fixed. Raquel re-bleached my hair to get rid of the dark color. She put in a new toner to my hair to make my hair gray this time. When she was blow drying it it almost looked white (compared to the previous blue color), so I preferred that color than the dark one. She told me to come back in a couple weeks to re-tone it in order to keep it the same. That meant she thought that color was gray yet it wasn't. We didn't finish blow drying my hair, and I was fine with that but it was a mistake.  When I got home I split my hair down the middle and my roots were so ugly! There was squared patches of blonde streaking to my skull. I split my hair to the side and same thing. I almost cried, I didn't even know how to do my hair. I wanted to wear a hat. Not only were my roots hideous, but my hair had an ombre look. More than half of my hair was a darker blonde. My hair was not anywhere near gray, it was a disaster (I posted a picture). Not to mention that I had several people asked me if I did it myself! Can you believe that? And to top it off I was going on vacation in less than two weeks. I never went back and I went with someone else at a different salon who was able to squeeze me into their schedule and even out my ugly hair color, tone it to the gray I wanted, and completely fix my roots. I decided to try the Chop Shop Hair Salon after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp, and I wasn't disappointed.  My stylist was polite, professional, and did a great job.  The Salon itself was clean, attractive, and offered many services.  The offer of coffee, wine, or beer was a nice touch.  The salon gave you the overall feeling you were being pampered.  For anyone looking for a great salon, look no further, you've found it with the Chop Shop. The Chop Shop caters to your service wonderfully, and I always leave the salon being and feeling 100% satisfied.  I have been going to Raquel for about 2 years now, and she always does a phenomenal job on my color and cut.  I get compliments on my hair all the time.  Most times I go in there indecisive about what I want done to my hair, and she always gives me multiple options on what she thinks would look good.  Whenever I finally choose one of the options she gives me, I am never let down and my hair looks great.  Overall, I am always impressed by Chop Shop, it's employees, and the service they provide me. I believe there are three people in your life you should have full faith in: your doctor, your banker and your hair stylist. I haven't been anywhere else but the Chop Shop in over two years and I would never leave. Tracy is my girl. We've changed my hair style various times over the past two years and she nails it every time. She is a perfectionist and truly listens to what I ask of her but isn't shy about giving her professional opinion when needed. She's a hair genius. The shop as a whole is friendly, personable, clean and very reasonably priced for such high end quality. All of my adult life I was always just going to any salon that would take me last minute. However, Danielle takes the cake! She styles my whole family and is skilled with small children, men's cuts, curly hair, color correction (I can't even tell you how many times) and even my fine soft animal fur hair. I like this place. I used to sell old starter jackets out of my car in the parking lot behind this place. There is a post office right behind there too. I once mailed in my check to pay my lawnmower guy, I put it in the mailbox and my lawn guy never got the check. He is Italian. He stopped cutting my grass and it grew real high. The town of Lansing fined me money for not cutting my grass good. I went to the town hall and told them I had an Italian guy who won't cut my grass anymore because the post office lost my check.
