I was here several years ago and had a terrible experience but, I was in need and hoped it had become better.  I walked in at 4 pm without an appt and was asked to return in 15 mins.  I did as requested, waited an additional 20 mins and was told she didn't know how longer it would be. In the meantime there was a young woman of color who said that she was there first, who then left.  I confirmed she was indeed ahead of me and I left.  Good decision as the place is filthy.  Stay away, there are better options. Visited Cali Nails today. This was my second time getting a pedicure. Both times I had a great experience and the nail technicians did a great job. The first time was an older woman and today was a young lady named Lee. Both woman really took their time and did not rush my pedicures. They really worked hard to get my feet looking great and did a very nice job on applying the polish. I really like that they used new scrubbers right out of the package. First - don't go if you don't like incense. Very strong.  The pedicure was okay. Girl was very nice.  But the manicurist lied about painting designs as if I I had never had gel nails - said you could only paint designs with regular paint and it wouldn't last.  Then he failed to shake bottle to mix the color and blamed the company - OPI. If your nail tech uses a powder and tells you it's gel he or she is lying to your face. I walked in here on Friday morning wanting to get GEL naiLs. I sit down and I see him pull out the acrylic powder. I then told him the mixture for gel is not a powder. He tried to argue with me saying that using the actual gel is the old technique and that the powder he was using is the New one. He ended up giving me acrylic nails with a top coat of gel and for that one top coat they charge you $15 extra. NO that's not true gel nails. Don't let these nail salons take advantage of you do your research. He argued till the end that they were gel when in fact they weren't. Never going back to this place. Read Less

Absolutely awful. Went in for a no-chip manicure. My nails are in great shape, as I get them done every 2 or 3 weeks. However, the lady still managed to paint over any remaining cuticles, making it look incredibly sloppy. The edges aren't filed all the way. Some nails are rounded, while others are square. For $35, I got more of a polish change than a manicure. Lotion was applied very sparingly, and didn't even cover my entire hand. I was rushed through the entire thing, and the lady spoke on her phone for a good portion of my manicure. To top it all off, the owner was there, and when I let her know how poor manicure was, she did nothing to make it right with me (all she did was yell at her employee). My girl went here twice. The second time they sent her home crying. The credit card machine rejected BOTH of our credit cards (gee, the nail job must've cost thousands of dollars). Instead of realizing that he is obviously swiping or inserting the card wrong, he shouts out amongst all customers "your cards are rejected!" What an unprofessional jerk thing to do to a girl who has nothing to do with your ineptitude. Humiliating a repeat customer, who will never ever return. My first time here for a gel fill and I will never return! My nail tech got defensive when I asked questions about my nails. I left out with a bad nail job and residue on my nails because they weren't wiped properly with alcohol and when I mentioned it so he could fix them, he told me they were fine. This place was awful, I waited for over an hour and a half. When it was my turn the lady named Lisa started to do my nails she cut me 5 times. She was such in a hurry to leave and she passed me on to Michael. Michael did a horrible job on my nails as well, and he told me it was too late to do a design on me nails to come another day. I am a paying customer a simple design couldn't get done? Never going again. I really need to get my money back. And I was told you're paying with card, you don't have cash for tip. This was the worst manicure experience I've ever had. This place is TERRIBLE! The entire salon is dirty, workers are not properly dressed, and my nails turned out awful.  I should have left before I even sat down.  I got a pedicure and no chip manicure.  My pedicure turned out fine, but the tools she used were certainly not clean.  I have had my no chip manicure for only a few days and half of my nails have already broken and the polish is peeling up.  I am NEVER going here again. Went in for the longest, most expensive no chip manicure I've ever sat through. My tech was nice but too slow for the service I received and continually talked to the tech next to her. They had terrible color selection (mainly looking for OPI or CND, they had neither) She took my color once selected over to another cabinet and put something else in it. 2 days later one nail is cracked and two others are chipped. I have been going to Cali Nails now for the past 10 years.  Prior to that I tried top name shops and no one compares to the great job they do!  Lisa (the owner and my personal nail technician) is amazing.  I have gel nails and they last a long time, they are gorgeous and of course I have to get fills.  I receive so many compliments that people will stop me at the store or at a party and ask me where i get my nails done.  Cali Nails has so many colors and options to offer, they can accommodate anyone's taste.  They also give excellent spa pedicures and when I leave, my feet are smooth and lovely.  Lastly, I also have my eyebrows and lip waxed there as well, great prices, great job.  Even my hubby goes there for his eyebrows.  Helloooo guys, yes, even you need to get your brows done....it's part of manscaping!. When I first starting coming to this place 3yrs ago, they had an awesome staff.  As those folks left and new people came in, the experience was not great and had my eyebrows overly waxed at one point.  In a pinch I will reluctantly go back, but not anymore.  Went in for a gel mani, my tech barely removed any cuticle and made one nail bleed.  I asked for gel french manicure, she told me my nails were too short.  Fair, let me choose a color.  I asked to look at the actual color before she applied and the snarky attitude started.  The color I chose appeared to be beige/peach, the color in the bottle was clearly pink.  She started a back and forth conversation that was the color number I chose, I felt I had to stand my ground which should not be necessary.  She held my fingers pretty hard, scolded me for putting my hands in the light too fast and got even snarkier when I asked for a 3rd coat.  Meanwhile, taking her time chatting with other people in the shop in their language.  End result was polish all over my cuticles, which she scolded me again for trying to separate...its going to peel anyway!  And to top it off, $40 bill when the nail place across the street is $32. TERRIBLE. Techs are rude, on their phone, talking to each other in another language.When I walked in I wasn't even greeted with a hello, just told "it will be half an hour" by a woman wearing a face mask while drilling a client's nails. Ok, so I waited. And waited. About an hour passed before I finally got seated. The lady doing my nails could have done way better. No hand massage, no lotion, yanked on my cuticles on some fingers and on other fingers barely touched them, polish on my cuticles, missed a spot in some places. The place is dark and doesn't look too clean, techs just pull tools out from a drawer or blue liquid. I will not be going back to Cali Nails, just awful. Read Less

Like an earlier reviewer, I have been a customer here for 8+ years and am sad to say the quality of staff and service has dropped significantly. Besides the owner and one tech, I did not recognize any other staff when my mom and I came in for mani/pedis before Mother's Day.Most troubling was my mom's manicure. The tech cut her cuticles so carelessly, she started bleeding several times. They use acetone to clean up the polish around the nails, so I'm sure you can imagine the pain of acetone in her numerous open wounds. I realize it's a busy time for them, and they had a steady stream of people coming, but it's not like there were people lining up down the street. Both techs that worked on my mom and I rushed through every step possible, cutting corners wherever they could. The "massage" for hands and feet was nothing more than a slathering of lotion that I rubbed in myself, and I barely said 5 words to my mom before she was done with the pumice stone. I could list a handful of other sloppy/unprofessional things that happened, but suffice to say that between the carelessness of mom's tech and the curt attitude of mine, (all but rolling her eyes when I requested French on my nails, bc it takes longer and scolding me if she felt I wasn't being careful enough taking my hands in out from under the lamp) I no longer feel any loyalty and will happily check out the other 10+ places in Gurnee to get my nails done. They're awful. I was a first-time customer wanting a nail repair and I don't know much about nails, but I get them done regularly so I don't know terminology well. I showed them my damaged nail. Next thing I know, they want to re-do ALL of my acrylic nails... when I clearly pointed to my damaged index nail that needed repair.So after that, I asked the guy to trim my nail the way I wanted.... You know what he said? "Well they won't look the same becuse you didn't get them done here" in his broken English. EXCUSE ME, I'M a paying customer. Why wouldn't you want to shape my nail the way I want you to shape it!!! Awful awful awful.I ended up arguing with the manager, in hopes she'd file my nail the way I wanted... But instead, she defended her employee and told me I was wrong. Wow... incredible!And I live in the city where nail repair is $5.... Guy charged me $10. Glad it was such a small amount because if I was paying $50 and was left unhappy, I would have been even more furious!!!Heading back to Chicago, where the best nail salons are. Get your PEDICURE HERE.Okay, if you have cute feet and just want cute polish, you can go anywhere.  BUT, if you have trouble feet, or tough callouses, get one of the boys here to do your feet.  I used to go here, but when money got tight, I quit.  Well, I went again this week and my feet are like BUTTER!  Illinois license law changed the tools they're allowed to use on callouses, and shops can't use those razor blade implements anymore.  The tools they're allowed to use aren't really effective, and most techs refuse to take the time needed to perform the task.  My guy went to work and would not relent until my callouses were gone.  THAT NEVER HAPPENS!  He must have used several different caustic agents and sloughers/graters etc.  I told him he was my new best friend and have been wearing sandals all week.I did have a nail service 18months or so ago that was a little  disputed, but owner Kathy is very nice, always remembers my name. (is that good or bad??  I am picky....)I have restored hope in salon pedicures now.  Whew.  I thought I was doomed to cracked heels. Read Less

I always go here always for a fill but I have stopped going there because they lost there best girl. I had some girl do my nails and she did a horrible job..i have never had one break and 4 of my nails did and they charged me for it. There was still nail polish on my fingers and my tips weren't even painted. I asked them to fix it and they said okay I will and never did. So I got up and left and I have not returned. got a 30$ pedicure, and I asked her if she was going to scouff off my dead skin with that potato peeler thing (sorry dont know name), she said  Yes but later... it never happened.  I specifically came here to have this service. FAILOver all the experience was the same, foot soaked in a  disposable liner, cuticles cut, nails filed, a leg and foot massage then polish.  The place was large but only 3 customers, which meant I could get my service quick.  I wish they had music on because I was reading and not a second went by without the ladies chattering on.
