I’ve been coming to number 1 nail spa for over 8 years. I first starting attending this nail salon as an undergraduate of SIUE. After graduating and moving back to St. Louis I continued to come back to Number 1 nail spa to continue to get my nails done. Today, my mom and I came in for our two week touch up and I was terribly racially profiled by one of the new workers. I came in to pick my nail color ( could decide between a light pink or pastel orange) and sat to be waited on. While I had the two nail polishes in my lap, I noticed that the new worker was watching me. Mind you, I had nothing but a small wristlet wallet, and my keys. No purse or anything for me to look “suspicious”. My bf called my cell and I couldn’t hear him because the shop was super busy. I then told one of the workers that I was going to my car to retrieve my headphone and I would be right back in. I sat the two nail polishes on the counter so that they wouldn’t think that I was stealing ( you know the typical response African Americans get). I went to the car to get my headphones, and when I turned around to go back in, I noticed that the new worker was watching me from the door. She quickly turned away once she saw that I noticed her. When I came back in, I then told my mom( who was getting her nails done at the time) that I wouldn’t be getting my nails done and was going to leave. Once I headed out, I informed one of the other workers of what happened and her response was “oh no, she wasn’t watching you.” The whole entire time she smiled while saying it. I am a very educated woman and know when I am being patronized. The owner who I believe is named Ken is amazing and the service is quick, but I will no longer spend my money here, and will tell others who I’ve introduced to the shop to do the same. First time getting a dip. I was super stressed out when I got there and the staff was friendly and helped me pick something great for an event I was going to. I loved the result and the manicure never chipped even once and I work with my hands frequently. After 3 weeks I removed them but I was still getting compliments like they were fresh. My sister in law loves this place and I have to say I’ll definitely go back if I need another special occasion set or a “treat yo’ self” day! We came here bc - unlike other salons in the area - they have small chairs for children, & this trip was meant to be a treat for my 5 year old. The chairs were great for her size but the older lady who painted her nails was horribly unpleasant. She made no attempt at kindness, using an unpleasant tone & barking orders at her (& me) for the duration. My daughter has had several pedicures & sits beautifully so it's not like her behavior warranted a poor attitude. The technician rushed her through & didn't so much feign a smile the entire time. In short, if you're going to cater to children, perhaps have someone who doesn't treat them like they're an imposition when they visit your business. Two stars instead of 1 bc her nail art was good & the chairs are nice, but I'll take her to Zaza or DK in the future. I have been a faithful customer of this nail spa but now I'm just pissed! I went and got a fill in on Saturday and come Sunday night I was literally sitting on the couch picked up a pillow and my pinky nail broke that same night my thumb broke also. I went back and got my two nails fixed on Monday free of charge....cool! Then Tuesday comes and I rub my fingers through my straight tangle free hair and two nails break on the opposite hand...now I'm just a VERY confused as to why these cheap acrylic nails are being used when I have been a loyal customer for years and spend close to $100 each month here. I used my gas and wasted my time AGAIN to go in the shop on Wednesday after I called earlier in the day to file a complaint and make an appointment to get my nail fixed to walk into a filled nail shop at the time of MY APPOINTMENT. I simply left after 5 mins with the same broken nails and pissed off! I WILL NEVER UTILIZE THIS NAIL SHOP AGAIN, I WILL SIMPLY TAKE MY BUISNESS ACROSS THE STREE TO ZAZA'S! Read Less

PLEASE READ: SPEND $25 SOMEWHERE ELSE (the photo shows what my nails looked like after one week) The worst nail experience I have ever had. I had wonderful, strong nails that I have been working on for months and now most of them are ruined because of going here. I could tell that the lady that did my nails did not care at all. When she was taking off the previous nail polish I had on, she used a scraper tool that was taking off the paint as well as chunks of my nails, other nail salons have done this and I have had no problem, but she made it so painful I wanted to cry! After buffing my nails, the skin around my fingers was almost infected and swollen, because of how careless and tough she was being (I also don't think the equipment was as clean and sanitized as it should of been) and my fingers stayed swollen for about a whole day. Then, without even lasting 24 hours, two nails were already decently chipped. I am a waitress but I have gotten my nails done at salons where they lasted the full two weeks without a problem while waitressing. I went back to get my nails fixed, I think they could've cared less. The lady just kinda rolled her eyes and pointed at the chair for me to sit down. She crapily repainted the two nails, and when I went to point out a nail that looked like about to chip, she said it'd be fine! It chipped about an hour after I had left! Do not go here, go somewhere like ZaZa where they speak fluent English or DK Nails, they are both a nicer place that does an amazing job for the same price! Read Less

Had a wonderful experience here. I went on a Monday afternoon and everyone was great. Lisa did my gel manicure. She not only took her time, she also made sure that every nail was perfect. I love the fact that they soak as much gel off as possible before they pull out the drill. Even then, they are gentle and use it sparingly. Read Less

Danny gave me a manicure and my nails look fantastic. I had a broken nail and the owner fixed that for me so I didn't lose the nail. I will go back again. This is my second time getting gel polish. I will asked for Danny again !! Read Less
