I went to Salon Roula to dye my bleached hair purple. I wasn't exactly sure of what shade I wanted, but talked it out with Gloria and Katherine. Gloria was lovely and very positive about the whole thing and explained what she was doing and how I should take care of my color treated hair in the future. She is an incredibly hardworking, caring and compassionate person who knows and loves her customers and strives to make each and every one of them feel special and happy. I went into Salon Roula today for my very first time and I loved it.Lowell cut my hair, and it was the best haircut/trim I have ever had.First, he was extremely careful and took his time cutting my hair. I went for a trim but came out fresh and my hair had this beautiful volume. What I loved about it is that he took his time. Usually trims take like 10 minutes and aren't very diligent, but that didn't happen today, it was the exact opposite! The cut was so careful and so beautiful. Also, the price is excellent when comparing to other salons in the area. I paid 50$. Other proper saloons would charge much more. Also, there is a wildcard discount which i believe is 20%? I've been going to Salon Roula for 3 years and I can't imagine going anywhere else for my haircut. I moved back to south Chicago after I graduated from NU but I still commute 40-45 minutes to go see Katherine. I don't let anyone else cut my hair because she is absolutely amazing! I've dealt with a lot of different stylists in the past who didn't know how to treat my thin hair, or cut and/or styled my hair in a way I did NOT like. Meeting Katherine was really awesome because she actually listened to my vision and worked with me to achieve it, rather than shut me down like most people would. I used to have such thin, damaged hair but after going to see Katherine, my hair has truly gotten so much healthier and thicker thanks to her tips and the products that Salon Roula carries. I also have fun with my hair now because I totally trust her and know she's going to do an awesome job. Katherine is the most collaborative, attentive, creative, professional and talented hair stylist I've ever had. She's also just an all around lovely person to talk to! I got a hair cut from Stella after I (rather impulsively) decided that I need four or five inches lopped off. I was actually pretty nervous about this, because I'd had the same person cut my hair for about ten years. I'd made an appointment for a Saturday but ended up having to wait a little bit because there was some sort of wedding party there getting their hair curled--absolutely no problem, everyone was very apologetic and nice and I just read magazines and waited a bit. The woman who shampooed my hair kept spraying water in my face, which is one of the reasons this is only 4 stars instead of 5, but I got the feeling she'd had a long morning already. Stella was great--she totally understood what I wanted even though I was speaking very vaguely and kept just pointing at my hair and saying, "You know, layers and short but not too short." She was very friendly and chatty, and checked in with me frequently about what she was doing. For an impulse decision, I was incredibly happy with the results. I made an appointment with Katherine. Due to past subpar hair salon experiences, it was critical that my stylist have experience dealing with Asian hair. Katherine seemed like she did. Before the cut, we exchanged pictures, because you know, a picture is worth 1,000 words. I specifically brought in a picture of the hair style I wanted (short bob with A-line and side part) which helped her visualize. She showed me a picture of how she'd layer the back of my hair. During the cut, she asked all the right questions, attentively listened to my preferences, and thoroughly responded to my queries. She gave me a mirror to let me watch while she was cutting. After it, guess what? My haircut turned out better than I expected! In fact, I got complimented by another stylist, her customer, and the receptionist! With 20% Wildcard discount, I got a hair wash and cut for $34. Not bad. They accept credit for service but tips in cash. I have been looking for a salon for quite a while. I've been looking for one that is close to my work, comfortable, friendly & of course, does a stellar job with hair. I found all of that with Stela at Salon Roula. I was in need of some serious color help. My daughter told me my hair looked like calico cat fur so that's pretty serious. Stela listened to what I wanted. Showed me color samples. Gave me great feedback and then did the most careful, thorough job applying it. The color is exactly what I wanted. No more calico! I didn't get a hair cut this time, but watched her cut the client before me & wouldn't hesitate to have her cut mine in the future! She also did a fantastic job styling my hair. My hair is curly & she dried it straight. Most stylists don't use the right products & don't flat iron here and there so my hair ends up feeling crunchy & looking newscaster-poofy. Not Stela! I've been to Roula since my family moved to Evanston. I first tried George's but somehow their Keratin treatment broke my hair in many short sections. After this bad experience I found Roula and I couldn't be happier. Both Roula and Samantha does a great job. I had an awesome experience here! I called on a whim after seeing the reviews and am so happy I did!I made an appointment on a Saturday with Samantha just 2 days before. I had been thinking about chopping my hair off and donating it because I was so sick of it being long but I was also scared because I had heard so many horror stories of haircuts gone wrong. Samantha assured me that my hair would still be longer than my shoulders and that it sounded like I was more indecisive than not wanting to do it. She gave me the little push I needed to realize I really did want to do it. And let me tell you, my hair hasn't been this short since I was a kid and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Love Samantha! Went to her a couple of times and am happy to say I'll actually be sticking with a hairdresser for the first time in my life! So far, I've gone in for 2 hair cuts, a coloring, and a casual updo for a semi-fancy dinner, and I've loved it every time.
