I am really disappointed that it's necessary for me to rate this nail salon so low. The actual nail services were acceptable, and the customer service was on par. Ordinarily, this would have been categorized as a three star establishment. It is unfortunate that it only takes one moment of poor judgment and utter unprofessionalism by one inappropriate employee to completely sour the entire experience. I booked an appointment for myself and my mother in law through Pretty Quick. We were both reserved for regular pedicures and no-chip manicures. For those of you that aren't familiar with the PQ platform, at the time of booking your credit card is authorized for the requested services. Once your services are completed, your card is charged for the amount of your services plus a 20% gratuity. It is supposed to be a seamless, cash-free experience. As I said before, the nail services were adequate. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave about. My nail tech was accommodating and efficient; if I knew her name I would commend her. We were offered a choice of beverage and the manicure concluded with a brief neck and shoulder massage. Once our services were concluded, our technicians simply said have a nice day and moved on to their next clients. No one walked us to the front of the salon or made any attempt to check us out at the front desk. I assumed this was because we had booked through PQ and no final checkout was required. We remained in the salon for 10-15 minutes after our services wrapped up. Each of us needed to use the restroom and then we subsequently waited for our uber to arrive. Our uber arrived and we proceed to leave the salon only to be screamed at once we crossed the threshold. "Did you pay?!", the rude woman yelled at us. She was not one of the techs that serviced us. I responded, "Yes, I booked through Pretty Quick, and my service charge and gratuity are automatically billed." "Well you need to come back inside so I can make sure.", she replied nastily screaming in front of the entire salon. This was beyond embarrassing. I, of course, re-enter the salon to deal with this but I was fuming. The nail tech that originally waited on me came over and tried to diffuse the situation. She apologized and got me properly checked out. Apparently there were some additional add-on charges totaling $10 that they were unable to tack onto my PQ bill. Okay fine, I have no problem paying that separately. But why didn't someone mention that to me in the 15 min span I sat around the front of the salon? Why didn't anyone come to the front of the salon when our services concluded, exercising basic salon etiquette, and check us out? Why am I required to be clairvoyant? I just spent $170 on the for the two of us! Did they really think I was trying to skip out on $10??!! The woman that yelled out of the salon door at us never even had the decency to apologize to us. My mother in law felt the treatment was racially charged as we are black and the majority of the salons clientele was white. I sincerely hope this was not the case. I didn't pick up on any disparate treatment prior to the final exchange, but the lack of remorse for the misunderstanding that was due to shortcomings in their service is rather unsettling. In any event, I will not be returning here. There are better places that will gladly welcome my business and not treat me like a second class citizen. Good customer service and professionalism matter. Our Mother's Day weekend was unnecessarily started on a sour note. Hopefully someone teaches that unpleasant women a thing or two about service in the near future. Read Less

Very unprofessional store owner!!!I rarely write reviews, but the unprofessional behavior of the Evans store owner/manager was so upsetting for me that I decided to spend few minutes on this.I've been going to this place for 5 years. In recent years I started making appointments ahead of time as the store became more busy. Very often, even with an appointment, I had to wait 15-20 min, since the employee I choose for my mani/pedi (El) often does not finish on time with the clients she has before me. She takes her time to do a reasonable job, which is fine, but the fact is that as a client I had to wait for her sometimes as long as 20 min, despite my very busy schedule. On mother's day weekend, I arrived 6 min late to my appointment with El. She had already started with another client. The store owner/manager was there and came to tell me that I was late 6 min, which is not acceptable, and I should choose between waiting again for the employee I reserved for my manicure (El) or choose one of her other employees....REALLY? You expect your customers to sit waiting for your employees to finish with other clients as long as 20 min, and you can not accept a 6min late arrival from clients you had for 5 years??  The worse though was that she was not even apologetic!  I left right away, went to another nails spa in Wilmette and had my nails done very nicely, right upon my arrival without even having an appointment. You vote with your feet! Never back again to the so called Evans!! Read Less

$35 mani/pedi deal Mon-Wed.They have OPI and Essie... and for $5 you can upgrade the nail polish to the "gel" ones (they're like normal nail polish that's supposed to stay on longer? Not the actual UV ones). I came in with a last minute appointment and needed to be out in an hour. They were quick with me because I needed to go so I didn't get to enjoy the massages etc as much as the other ladies there, but I would like to come back and see what it's like to get a more thorough service. I didn't think they were very good about cleaning up hang nails and cuticles but maybe it's because I had to be done in an hour? They were very nice, offering me water and a hot shoulder pack. They also ran over when I was trying to leave to Saran Wrap my toes and apply oil on my fingers. The place is very clean! Read Less

Evans Nails is a nice spot to get pampered on the north end of Evanston. Early in the week, they have a special where if you get a pedicure, you get a manicure for free ($35 when I went). I loved the person who did my pedicure - she wasn't TOO chatty, but we laughed about the romcom that they were playing and I think she did a great job on my toe nails. It lasted probably about 2 months, and that's including major sandal wearing during the summer. I was disappointed by the manicure job I got. I was there around closing time, so I think she was rushing. My manicure started chipping within two days. Overall, I would go again because I felt that the deal I got was great but next time I'll request the person who did my pedi to do both. Read Less

First and foremost, they have tons of colors - OPI and Essie. And you can make online reservations with a credit card. Buuuut unless you added tip when you made the online rez, you can't tip on your card. The cash or check tip policy is weird and makes me think they have some overlord who keeps all their money. I only went here because my regular nail shop was closed on Sunday. My finger was nipped badly with the cuticle clipper - and no antiseptic was used. My "manicure" did not consist of such. My fingers were not soaked in water to soften my cuticles.  I don't like that they do not have the nail polishes for gel painted on a fake nail so that you can SEE the color. There are only bottles displayed on the walls. My nail polish looks thick at the end and she didn't know how to do a simple glitter disign. I won't be returning. Read Less

I really wanted to like this place. I even gave them a second change, but unfortunately I will not be coming back.My first time at Evans I mad an appointment online the day before for a no-chip manicure plus lip waxing. I arrive about 20 minutes early for my appointment and asked if they had time to start early (but no big deal if they couldn't, I could just wait). They seemed VERY annoyed but said they'd start early anyway and to pick out my polish. Not only did we not start early, I had to wait more than 30 minutes past my original appointment time before we even started. Then, once we finally did start, the lady kept leaving me to do other things. She was very slow at doing my nails and sloppy as well..the manicure took over an hour (on top of the additional wait). At the end of the manicure, she went to wipe my nails and the polish came right off! Remember, this is no-chip...that should not happen. She re-did the nail and then wiped it off AGAIN. Finally she got it to stay...but my nails started chipping in just a few days.I thought that maybe they had just been too busy that day. I live on Noyes so I really wanted to like this place and decided to give them another try. I went in for another no-chip manicure and the service was much better; however, my nails were very thin and flimsy afterwards and the polish lasted only one week. Usually my no-chips elsewhere last about three weeks.Unfortunately I do not recommend this place at all. :( Read Less

I liked Evans a lot for its initial convenience, but lately the fact that I can't add tip on my card is becoming pretty annoying. As a college student, I rarely carry cash. They suggest going across the street and taking money out of an ATM, but the machine charges a fee and is frequently broken.Other than that inconvenience, I like Evans a lot. Their no-chip manicures have held up seemingly longer than ones I've gotten at other nail salons. They're always playing a movie on the TV as well, usually a rom com. Bonus: they offer a hot neck pillow, tea or water, and a neck massage. Overall, I enjoy Evans and their manicures last. My only suggestion would be to do away with cash-only tipping... When I don't have any, I head to a different salon. Read Less

I love this place. I come here for the "get a free mani with the purchase of a pedi" deal, which runs Monday thru Wednesday (except holidays, as I found out). I come here for a few reasons:(1) Price is good. The pedi price, $35, seems totally reasonable and in-line with similar places, given that it's not a full on spa, but also not a cheapo "hot nails" in a strip mall. Also, there is a Wildcard discount when you're not using the other free mani deal.(2) Service quality. The pedi chairs are really nice (new, massagers work, etc), the technicians are always wearing gloves and using their own instruments from the sanitizing machine. They take their time and do a nice job, and if you mess up a nail, they'll redo the whole nail rather than patching it. They also don't try to guilt you about it -- no biggie.(3) Add-ons. There are a lot of little freebie details that make the experience here great... You get a cup of hot tea, if you like. You also receive a warm neck/shoulder wrap, and you get a short (but awesome) shoulder massage afterward. The technicians are FRIENDLY and talk to you, as much as you want to talk to them anyway. There is always something great on TV... movies, desperate housewives, Revenge, etc. On more than one occasion I've sat at the dryers until the movie ended because I couldn't tear myself away.Basically, of everywhere I've been in Evanston (Evanston nails, Nail Bar, Sky Nails, etc) this is the best place at this price range. The little add-ons, the clean & modern feel of the place, and the friendliness of the staff goes a long way. Read Less

Read Less

I called and made an appointment for 4pm. When I got there at 4pm, I had to wait to be seated, and once I was seated, I waited for an additional 25 minutes. Nobody told me there would be a wait, they just left me there waiting and apologized 30 minutes later. Their selection of nail polishes is pretty average, but they don't have Wicked by Essie, which is a pretty basic/popular color. Go somewhere else.

Read Less

I really like this place - the women there are very solicitous and offer water, a warm compress for my neck, etc.  They always have junky chick flicks on as well, which is a nice touch.  Super clear, and finally, a really nice pedicure.  It's mid-price ($35), so not for the summer, and they don't do tips, which I wish they did.

Or they don't want to declare their tips, so cash.I'll admit, the place I've been going for the last few years in Seattle has me spoiled, but this place is fine enough. Read Less

I like it here because its conviently off the train and the girls are always very nice.  They play great movies in the salon, and can pretty much always take you if you're a walk-in.  The WORST thing about this place is that they don't accept tips on the credit card.  There are a lot of times I want to go here but don't have cash (and I don't like not tipping) and don't want to pay the ATM to take out cash.  They would make a lot more money from me (because I would come more often) if they accepted tips on the credit card.

Read Less

Such a great place! I have gone twice for no chip gel manicures, and they have been excellent. Tanya is so sweet and thorough and the polish has lasted over two weeks--the flaws only start because my nails grow so quickly. They have online booking and an array of colors. Definitely recommend.Oh, I should also note that they have a killer mani/pedi special on Mondays and Tuesdays. It's just for the regular services (not gel), but I think it is basically a twofer (I think it's a mani free with pedi).

Read Less
