How do moms always know what you need? Is there a Mama Sense, maybe like Spidey Sense, that kicks in when a child is floundering? In this case, I was in need of relaxation and beautification. Have you seen comic drawing of a cat jumping into the air with with all of its fur sticking straight out? That was me. I hadn't had a haircut in four months and I was STRESSED OUT. Yes, in all caps. My mother swooped in with the cure for all work and no play - a Girls' Night Out package at Studio 404. The salon was kind enough to donate the package to a silent auction and my mom was the lucky bidder. The package entitled four of us to haircuts, manicures and makeup application - oh, and wine and appetizers. We must not forget the wine and appetizers. We rounded up my sister-in-law and her mom and scheduled our evening of bliss. When we arrived, we were greeted by a full team of professionals as well as a cheese and cracker platter and a try of homemade bruschetta (YUM). I also soon had a glass of merlot in my hand. Shenae sat down with me to discuss my goals for my hair (my primary one was that it not look like it currently did). I told her I've been into braids recently (thank you, Hunger Games) and would love to learn how to do a new braid. She said she'd be happy to demonstrate a few for me. After shampooing my hair (ahhh, that's always so relaxing), Shenae gave me a trim and awesome waves with a cool new curling iron that creates beachy waves rather than precious curls. She then showed me how to do a fishtail braid before braiding the front of my hair into a "headband." I loved my look! While Shenae was working on my hair, Hillary was applying my makeup. I loved her cool, bold eye makeup and asked her if she could do something similar on me. Not only did she give me what I wanted, she showed me how I could recreate the look at home. Awesome! (When the Dude saw me later, he loved my eyeliner.) After Hillary was done with my makeup, my manicure began. This was the only part of the package that I wasn't thrilled with as my polish started chipping the next day and one of my nails was full of air bubbles. Oh well. The other members of our party were thrilled with their experiences as well! I can't thank Sally Montavon and her staff enough for putting together an amazing night of pampering and relaxation!
