This was my first time visiting this hair salon, I went to th Crystal Lake location. Where to begin... when I scheduled my appointment they told me full color would be one price and when I ended up paying it was a different price. The front of the salon is pretty nice open and bright with natural light. The further you walk back is god awful the walls are a nasty neon blue and horrible fluorescent lighting. I told the colorist what I was looking for and the idea I had and asked to bring back swatches. She comes back 20 minutes later or so with dye mixed up. I had a confused look on my face and said I wanted to see color samples of shade ranges. She laughed and disappeared again for another 20 minutes or so. I noticed in between of the colorist working on myself she must have been running back and forth to work on other clients. I don’t see this being very professional as I had color on my head and needs to be monitored. The other colorists chairs and stations are way to close to one another. The other colorists near me were rude and bumped into my chair hard and didn’t apologize. When I was getting shampooed the other staff would walk buy and give me dirty looks. I could over hear some of th staff taking garbage about their clients or other customers in the salon. Once again not professional. After my colorist took my cape off from shampooing my whole shirt was soaked... and she said I would have to dry my own hair. What the hell? I’ve never been to salon where to pay money for services and have to do it yourself... I looked in the mirror at the drying station to start doing it myself and I had hair dye everywhere on my face. The colorist grabbed a chemical to take off the dye and didn’t even ask I have very sensitive skin. She laughs and says oh you skin is turning red I’m like yeah... you think?!? When I got done blow drying my own hair this young guy that works there goes for my purse and grabs the brush from under I’m purse. Rude AF. Don’t waste your time going here. I’ve been to much nicer salons and def know what’s up on the customer service department. Read Less

Do not go here ! It’s over priced and they can’t even do their job. I booked a double processing with Danielle , sat down in the chair was ready to get my hair done only for her to have someone else come and tell me that Danielle didn’t want to do my hair!!!! Beyond ridiculous then I went to talk to the manager and she was no help either she said I should find somewhere else because that no one in her salon wants to do my hair. I first went into Mario Tricoci a in 2013 after years of coloring at home left me with a mess of blonde hair with orangish spots. Chloe took me in and fixed the color issues. I have been using her as my colorist and Jenna, Riley, and Jade as my stylists ever since. They both rock and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a top salon in Crystal Lake. Below are pics of the lunches you can order when having "spa days" which I love to do with my daughter. We get facials and massages with lunch in between and then hair in the afternoon. Read Less

I switched from a very expensive salon to Mario Tricoci and I am glad I did. I have been there thrice now and had Lilly for my stylist. Honestly I got the best cut I have had in a few years.

POSITIVE - I chose colorist and hairstylist on the high scale and so pay a hair premium for their craft. The colorist tones my hair from blonde to gray, among other treatments that she recommends. The hairstylist trims and shapes the back of my hair high and leave the long length in the front to give illusion of height to my round face and she also treats my dry scalp monthly. Both are super fast, precise and excellent when getting the result they set out to work on. Conversations made were never questionable. While I chose to be loyal to these women's craft, when they quit, I will not return because Tricoci does not give recognition to their loyal customers. NEGATIVE - Tricoci does not give any recognition to their loyal customers after 6months worth of patronizing even on customers' birthdays. Bonuses attached to gift cards expire. Discounts on products when available are aimed at those who uses them and not all customers use their products. Read Less

I've been to one other Mario Tricoci salon-the one in Arlington Heights and had a not very good experience. I walked out of the salon not really sure what I had just spent an exorbitant amount of money on. This time though I came to the Crystal Lake location and left so much happier than before! My colorist was Sophia and she gave me exactly what I wanted! I needed some subtle color around my face before my brother's wedding and she gave me the perfect color and it ended up looking a million times better than the picture I brought in. Giana cut my hair and again made it look even better than the picture I brought in! After everything I got waxed by Andrea and it was just about as quick and painless as you could get! I can't say enough great thing about Mario Tricoci after this visit. Read Less

Usaually, I never wing it so to speak. Both where so amazing and knew what was best for my particular kind of hair. I have fine, wavy and needless to say not ur typical cookie cutter hair. So I give u both Sophia and Madison a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart. These are the 2 to see if you are like me and have hair that requires more than the average women. I lost handfuls of hair and the manager sent me home with a condition treatment in my hair and tried to charge me full price. When I questioned her she gave me an attitude like it was my fault. I've been going to this location (Crystal Lake) for a long time and I am a regular customer. She wanted to argue with me and was completely unprofessional. To top it off she claimed to be the regional manager! Who acts this unsympathetic and is a regional manager? I'm not the type to ever ask for a discount and tip generous all the time but your hair is falling out by handfuls, something is wrong!!! Read Less

I received a Mother's Day spa package which I just now used in November. My massage was with Abbey - it was glorious! This was my second massage in my entire life and she did a fantastic job! I had a facial with Quinn, and she was most pleasant, knowledgeable, and kind throughout the entire hour I was with her. With both the massage and facial, these ladies kept tabs on my comfort every step of the way, making sure I was warm, hydrated, and comfortable throughout the morning. This place is an absolute joke. I called in the morning to make an appointment for that evening. They said that they could fit me in for an all over color, a full highlight, and a haircut. The only thing they said was that two different girls would color and cut my hair. I figured no problem. My appointment started at 5:30, they did not finish with my hair until 8:45. They then informed me that because of the time the other girl had gone home and could no longer cut my hair. I was sent home with nothing but a $20 discount and an "I'm sorry." I will be calling to speak to their general manager in the morning and this will be fixed. I wonder how such a high rates place can treat clients like this. Read Less

Rude inconsiderate stylists, unethical managers, shady business practices, over priced & over profited dump this place truly is.My story goes, I was scheduled to have my hair colored at the Old Orchard location. I showed up on time, only to discover that my stylist went home for the night and NOBODY even bothered to contacted me because " it was a very busy day", according to management. Funny, when I got there there was only a handful of people but okay.. I asked to speak with the coloring manager ( orange hair chick), and she did not seem to care, and nobody else was available to do my hair, except some guy who had extremely much higher prices (75% higher to be exact) then what I am use to paying. It wasn't my fault that the stylist went home early so why do I get stuck paying for another stylist whose prices are significantly higher and Mario's wouldn't cover the difference. I left work early to sit in traffic to get there just to turn around and leave, again nobody cared, no compensation/gift card/complimentary service or nothing! I did contact their customer service hotline, and again nobody really cared, all you hear is " I'm sorry, that wasn't right of her, come back again and use someone else, thanks for calling". Click. Anyway, I wound up going to Hair Cuttery down the street and guess what they are a lot cheaper, and much more down to earth atmosphere. Nobody would ever even know the different either! I went for my 3rd highlight. I didn't request the same colorist as she did an (okay-good job) last time; I thought maybe I'd have a great job this time. WRONG. I have dark brunette hair (level 4) & wanted to maintain a highlight to about a 7R. I knew in the consultation she just wasn't getting it when all she asked me about was "so you want to go brighter" What the heck does that mean? Well, I found out the wrong way. She turned me into a blonde, which didn't look nice with my complexion. The foil must have leaked because I have blotchy spots.She put on 2 separate toner applications. It helped, but definitely NOT what I wanted for $175 later. I went to a family graduation party, and alot of people didn't even recognize me saying - You're blonde now". My response was - not by choice. I was suppose to go back, but with my busy schedule in the past 4 weeks, I haven't been able to.Sorry to say - this wasn't a good experience. Read Less

1. Okay facial and satisfactory Signature Massage - but really, this level of service is common everywhere. 2. Unbelievably disappointing/disturbing customer service. - Making an appointment through their 1-800 number was easy and pleasant, and the nightmare begins once you are in the store: - No matter what your skin type, there is no flexibility, it's incredible! They stick to their routines and that's about it. My friend was complaining afterwards that her face hurt b/c their peels were too strong - I had a facial person tell me ""I understand you are upset"" and totally giving me an attitude--which I am not used to getting attitude when I pay full price for service - Two receptionists helps me at the register. ""Arielle"" was super nice and friendly so I put down 15-20% tips for everyone (except the one with bad attitude who did my friend's facial). Then, I got home and received a voice message saying I still owed them $17. This is fine. But, ""Jan"", the other receptionist I had met at the store, gave me an attitude right off the bat and took a very condescending tone with me! She first seemed to imply that I didn't tell ""Arielle"" that I got the more expensive Signature Massage and only paid for the Swedish Massage. AND THEN, she put me on hold forever, all the while it's ME ON HOLD FOREVER on the Saturday night, for me to make an additional payment. THIS GETS BETTER. In the end, through all that, after I gave her my AMEX card # after all this unpleasant experience, she said to me: ""YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU'RE REALLY YOUNG AND..."", implying that I shouldn't have a bad attidude because I am young. In summary,.. 1. I may be three years out of college, but I have a good job, that allows me to pay full price for decent spa services 2. Despite my age, I am still a customer 3. I do not recommend this location at all. Most of the Mario's are bad but this location and Pheasant Run take the award for worst in the state. I could not believe how rude the girls at the reception desk were. One girl is supposed to be the manager named Brittany but she just gossiped and behaved rudely to people and then the real gem is Kyle who should probably smile and maybe people wouldn't be so mad at how rude and incompetent she is. My stylist Frankie was horrible. I thought these people go to training before they cut hair but I guess she did not. I thought after the receptionists were rude that it couldn't get worse but my ""stylist"" was worse. She even rolled her eyes when I was talking to her. I obviously didn't talk to her the rest of the cut and just felt like crying. She rushed my blowdry and it was not straight at all. The cut was so bad my husband started yelling at me for letting it happen. We had to pay another $50 bucks to get it redone at another salon. This place was dirty, rude and filled with unskilled, uncaring attitudes. I DO NOT recommend this chain to anyone!! Read Less

I moved to Naperville ten years ago. I was recommend to this salon by several people as ""a great hair cut"" but, ""you will pay a price"". I am use to paying $65 for a cut and $90 for a color, however I am use to having good customer service at those prices. My experience there was, it is much like a factory. The people who do the work are great in their field, thus the price is high. I was willing to bare the ""price"" of bad service until one day I had enough. The front desk treats you like dirt if you?re not sporting a huge diamond and designer cloths. The people who actually do the cutting and coloring are better but don't look for the traditional bonding while you get your cut and/or color. I left after 8 years of six to eight weeks of cuts and color because; the management seems to favor making money. In this economy I hope they change their management style. A friend gave me a gift certificate to try the salon again and I did within the last month. I was hoping the experience would have been better however?I still have not changed my mind. This is a good place if you want and need a good cut and color. You will be disappointed if you want something more and expect good service. Read Less

Who would have thought I could get such a great cut while on vacation from Seattle. My stylist was on vacation and unable to do my hair before I left, but I found Brandon whom I want to highly recommend! His style and flair for hair was FABULOUS! When I got back to my families house my mother and two adult sister were so jealous, they made their own appointments with Brandon. Each one having a very different style. My mother came back with a graduated bob and she looks ten years younger. I can't stress enough how amazing our new hair looks. I have natural curly hair and have a hard time finding someone who ""really"" knows what they are doing. Brandon was professional, confident, efficient, respectful, and charming in every way possible! I will be returning for his services every time I visit the area!!! Thanks Brandon! Read Less

I went to Mario Tricoci for the first time in my life, looking forward to a great new style. I made the appointment on-line (very convenient) and chose first available stylist since I did not have a preference. I was greeted nicely and was told the stylist would be right with me. I waited 20 minutes, no one came so I went back up to the desk to inquire why. Well, the stylist I was suppose to get was cutting and styling someone elses hair. No other stylist was available. I was asked to wait, being told "she works fast". I told them this was not a very good first impression. Feeling very disappointed and a bit angry I decided it might be best if I leave. I will never go back to this location. Thumbs down all the way. Horrible experience. Read Less

I didnt know that anybody could ever get a bad facial, but I did today. I checked in at the front desk and the lady just told me to go upstairs. She didnt tell me to go into the spa or anything so I waited outside in a very loud waiting room. Usually when I go to a spa, I am greeted with very nice people and asked to put on a robe or something. This was not the case... When it was time for the facial, I was taken back to a room and asked to get undressed from the waist up. After I got undressed she came in and starting making alot of noise (this was the person that was going to do my facial) . This was just really not relaxing. Next, I was laying there and she put this really bright light right in my eyes, and it was blinding. I ask her if I could remove it, because it was hurting and she didnt do anything. Then after analyzing my face, she tried to sell me their products and basically told me that my dermatologist was wrong in what she prescribed. After all of this the facial began. At first, I felt like she didnt know how to put lotion on my face, because it was really uncomfortable and by this time I wasn't enjoying the special gift that my husband had gotten for me for getting a new job. She took the first layer off and then starting squeezing my blackheads out. THIS HURT SOOOO BAD. I had to ask her to quit. I felt like she ripped off my nose at one point. This was my first time visiting this hair salon, I went to th Crystal Lake location. Where to begin... when I scheduled my appointment they told me full color would be one price and when I ended up paying it was a different price. The front of the salon is pretty nice open and bright with natural light. The further you walk back is god awful the walls are a nasty neon blue and horrible fluorescent lighting. I told the colorist what I was looking for and the idea I had and asked to bring back swatches. She comes back 20 minutes later or so with dye mixed up. I had a confused look on my face and said I wanted to see color samples of shade ranges. She laughed and disappeared again for another 20 minutes or so. I noticed in between of the colorist working on myself she must have been running back and forth to work on other clients. I don’t see this being very professional as I had color on my head and needs to be monitored. The other colorists chairs and stations are way to close to one another. The other colorists near me were rude and bumped into my chair hard and didn’t apologize. When I was getting shampooed the other staff would walk buy and give me dirty looks. I could over hear some of th staff taking garbage about their clients or other customers in the salon. Once again not professional. After my colorist took my cape off from shampooing my whole shirt was soaked... and she said I would have to dry my own hair. What the hell? I’ve never been to salon where to pay money for services and have to do it yourself... I looked in the mirror at the drying station to start doing it myself and I had hair dye everywhere on my face. The colorist grabbed a chemical to take off the dye and didn’t even ask I have very sensitive skin. She laughs and says oh you skin is turning red I’m like yeah... you think?!? When I got done blow drying my own hair this young guy that works there goes for my purse and grabs the brush from under I’m purse. Rude AF. Don’t waste your time going here. I’ve been to much nicer salons and def know what’s up on the customer service department. Read Less

The hairstylist trims and shapes the back of my hair high and leave the long length in the front to give illusion of height to my round face and she also treats my dry scalp monthly. Both are super fast, precise and excellent when getting the result they set out to work on. Conversations made were never questionable. While I chose to be loyal to these women's craft, when they quit, I will not return because Tricoci does not give recognition to their loyal customers. NEGATIVE - Tricoci does not give any recognition to their loyal customers after 6months worth of patronizing even on customers' birthdays. Bonuses attached to gift cards expire. Discounts on products when available are aimed at those who uses them and not all customers use their products. Read Less

I've been to one other Mario Tricoci salon-the one in Arlington Heights and had a not very good experience. I walked out of the salon not really sure what I had just spent an exorbitant amount of money on. This time though I came to the Crystal Lake location and left so much happier than before! My colorist was Sophia and she gave me exactly what I wanted! I needed some subtle color around my face before my brother's wedding and she gave me the perfect color and it ended up looking a million times better than the picture I brought in. Giana cut my hair and again made it look even better than the picture I brought in! After everything I got waxed by Andrea and it was just about as quick and painless as you could get! The only thing they said was that two different girls would color and cut my hair. I figured no problem. My appointment started at 5:30, they did not finish with my hair until 8:45. They then informed me that because of the time the other girl had gone home and could no longer cut my hair. I was sent home with nothing but a $20 discount and an "I'm sorry." Rude inconsiderate stylists, unethical managers, shady business practices, over priced & over profited dump this place truly is.My story goes, I was scheduled to have my hair colored at the Old Orchard location. I showed up on time, only to discover that my stylist went home for the night and NOBODY even bothered to contacted me because " it was a very busy day", according to management. Funny, when I got there there was only a handful of people but okay.. I asked to speak with the coloring manager ( orange hair chick), and she did not seem to care, and nobody else was available to do my hair, except some guy who had extremely much higher prices (75% higher to be exact) then what I am use to paying. It wasn't my fault that the stylist went home early so why do I get stuck paying for another stylist whose prices are significantly higher and Mario's wouldn't cover the difference. I left work early to sit in traffic to get there just to turn around and leave, again nobody cared, no compensation/gift card/complimentary service or nothing! I did contact their customer service hotline, and again nobody really cared, all you hear is " I'm sorry, that wasn't right of her, come back again and use someone else, thanks for calling". Click. Anyway, I wound up going to Hair Cuttery down the street and guess what they are a lot cheaper, and much more down to earth atmosphere. Nobody would ever even know the different either! I have dark brunette hair (level 4) & wanted to maintain a highlight to about a 7R. I knew in the consultation she just wasn't getting it when all she asked me about was "so you want to go brighter" What the heck does that mean? Well, I found out the wrong way. She turned me into a blonde, which didn't look nice with my complexion. The foil must have leaked because I have blotchy spots.She put on 2 separate toner applications. It helped, but definitely NOT what I wanted for $175 later. I went to a family graduation party, and alot of people didn't even recognize me saying - You're blonde now". 1. Okay facial and satisfactory Signature Massage - but really, this level of service is common everywhere. 2. Unbelievably disappointing/disturbing customer service. - Making an appointment through their 1-800 number was easy and pleasant, and the nightmare begins once you are in the store: - No matter what your skin type, there is no flexibility, it's incredible! They stick to their routines and that's about it. My friend was complaining afterwards that her face hurt b/c their peels were too strong - I had a facial person tell me ""I understand you are upset"" and totally giving me an attitude--which I am not used to getting attitude when I pay full price for service - Two receptionists helps me at the register. ""Arielle"" was super nice and friendly so I put down 15-20% tips for everyone (except the one with bad attitude who did my friend's facial). Then, I got home and received a voice message saying I still owed them $17. This is fine. But, ""Jan"", the other receptionist I had met at the store, gave me an attitude right off the bat and took a very condescending tone with me! She first seemed to imply that I didn't tell ""Arielle"" that I got the more expensive Signature Massage and only paid for the Swedish Massage. I do not recommend this location at all. Most of the Mario's are bad but this location and Pheasant Run take the award for worst in the state. I could not believe how rude the girls at the reception desk were. One girl is supposed to be the manager named Brittany but she just gossiped and behaved rudely to people and then the real gem is Kyle who should probably smile and maybe people wouldn't be so mad at how rude and incompetent she is. My stylist Frankie was horrible. I thought these people go to training before they cut hair but I guess she did not. I thought after the receptionists were rude that it couldn't get worse but my ""stylist"" was worse. She even rolled her eyes when I was talking to her. I obviously didn't talk to her the rest of the cut and just felt like crying. She rushed my blowdry and it was not straight at all. The cut was so bad my husband started yelling at me for letting it happen. We had to pay another $50 bucks to get it redone at another salon. This place was dirty, rude and filled with unskilled, uncaring attitudes. I DO NOT recommend this chain to anyone!! Read Less

I moved to Naperville ten years ago. I was recommend to this salon by several people as ""a great hair cut"" but, ""you will pay a price"". I am use to paying $65 for a cut and $90 for a color, however I am use to having good customer service at those prices. My experience there was, it is much like a factory. The people who do the work are great in their field, thus the price is high. I was willing to bare the ""price"" of bad service until one day I had enough. The front desk treats you like dirt if you?re not sporting a huge diamond and designer cloths. The people who actually do the cutting and coloring are better but don't look for the traditional bonding while you get your cut and/or color. I left after 8 years of six to eight weeks of cuts and color because; the management seems to favor making money. In this economy I hope they change their management style. A friend gave me a gift certificate to try the salon again and I did within the last month. I was hoping the experience would have been better however?I still have not changed my mind. This is a good place if you want and need a good cut and color. You will be disappointed if you want something more and expect good service. Read Less

Who would have thought I could get such a great cut while on vacation from Seattle. My stylist was on vacation and unable to do my hair before I left, but I found Brandon whom I want to highly recommend! His style and flair for hair was FABULOUS! When I got back to my families house my mother and two adult sister were so jealous, they made their own appointments with Brandon. Each one having a very different style. My mother came back with a graduated bob and she looks ten years younger. I can't stress enough how amazing our new hair looks. I have natural curly hair and have a hard time finding someone who ""really"" knows what they are doing. I went to Mario Tricoci for the first time in my life, looking forward to a great new style. I made the appointment on-line (very convenient) and chose first available stylist since I did not have a preference. I was greeted nicely and was told the stylist would be right with me. I waited 20 minutes, no one came so I went back up to the desk to inquire why. Well, the stylist I was suppose to get was cutting and styling someone elses hair. No other stylist was available. I was asked to wait, being told "she works fast". I told them this was not a very good first impression. Feeling very disappointed and a bit angry I decided it might be best if I leave. I didnt know that anybody could ever get a bad facial, but I did today. I checked in at the front desk and the lady just told me to go upstairs. She didnt tell me to go into the spa or anything so I waited outside in a very loud waiting room. Usually when I go to a spa, I am greeted with very nice people and asked to put on a robe or something. This was not the case... When it was time for the facial, I was taken back to a room and asked to get undressed from the waist up. After I got undressed she came in and starting making alot of noise (this was the person that was going to do my facial) . This was just really not relaxing. Next, I was laying there and she put this really bright light right in my eyes, and it was blinding. I ask her if I could remove it, because it was hurting and she didnt do anything. Then after analyzing my face, she tried to sell me their products and basically told me that my dermatologist was wrong in what she prescribed. After all of this the facial began. At first, I felt like she didnt know how to put lotion on my face, because it was really uncomfortable and by this time I wasn't enjoying the special gift that my husband had gotten for me for getting a new job. She took the first layer off and then starting squeezing my blackheads out. THIS HURT SOOOO BAD. I had to ask her to quit. I felt like she ripped off my nose at one point. After this, then everything started to get a little better. The massaging was nice, and I started relax except for the fact that I was right next to the bathroom. I would hear a toilet flushing every 2-3 minutes and people talking outside my room. I was getting so annoyed. Oh and the funny thing was that when I left, the receptionist asked me how it was and said OK (thats it). I guess now I know that OK is all they need to hear to feel good about their services. I didnt want to complain, because I didnt want to get anybody into trouble but it was hard to see $100 go to waste. I will never go back Read Less

The front desk girls need a class in customer service, starting with the basics of a smile and ""hello"". I have continued to patronize MT's in the past because of their convenient hours, but not even that is enough to get me to return this time. Had to wait in chair for 10-12 minutes waiting for the stylist to arrive and cut my hair...no one offered me a magazine or coffee. No biggie...but when girl arrived she said she has been on break and ""I make sure I take my breaks - the day is too stressful otherwise"". Finally, I asked for bangs. I didn't get them, and because of the hair cut style, she couldn't change the cut afterwards. Staff up front needs to smile once in a while, too. Get the picture.
